A group of us get together for nachos and drinks every wednesday for over a year now, and we recently moved locations to this pub.  The staff are accommodating, always having a table for us (there is usually 10-12 every week), and on our second visit, the manager even bought us a round.  The ribs are delicious, the nachos are good, and so are many other items on the menu that we have tried. (hot dogs, mussels, etc.)

You get what you pay for. And if you know what to expect Pub 1905 is perfect. Food tastes great, and the portions are generous. Always something on the menu for everyone. The service is hit or miss.

Pub 1905 is what it is. An ultra-casual (and I'm not using that term loosely, like more dive bar than anything) place for drinks after work downtown with your buddies, maybe play a round or two on the pool table.

The food was better than I expected here, and the beer is nice and cold whether you're drinking for a birthday party, drowning your sorrows, or just hanging out.

What could use some change is the service. It's really hit-or-miss. I've had friendly servers, and very unfriendly ones.

Bottom line: want to go for a beer downtown? This is a pub that won't be busy, and at the very least, you'll be drinking.

We popped in after work, a group of 5 to have a few drinks & then head over to the City Center to watch a movie.  Pub 1905 has no drink menu, but has a full bar, so I was definitely expecting to order whatever drink I wanted.  I wanted something that I thought was pretty simple - strawberry martini - nope they couldn't make it.  So then I went with an amaretto sour which basically sucked!  Guess the American needs to start ordering Canadian drinks! ;) I ordered the chicken fingers - also not really good, but it was food & I was hungry.

This is probably a good place for those who like beer and want to play a few games of pool...definitely not a place that I'd rank top of my list.

I wouldn't call Pub 1905 "hip" or "happening." It's not flashy or glitzy. It seems to be very popular with a mixed aged crowd, and you'll see a lot of police officers stopping by -- for dinner, that is. I suppose they are regulars. The interior is kinda dated like an old sports bar. However, that doesn't mean the atmosphere is bad: it's pretty relaxed and the music is at a level where conversation can actually take place.

However, if you're craving good, tasty pub food, that isn't exorbitantly priced for no good reason (cough, Moxies, cough, Brewsters, cough, Random Chain Restaurant), this is the place to go.

And when I say tasty, I mean they have custom-made hand-ground sirloin burgers. My hubby and I love their "Fat Bastard" burger, which is essentially everything but the kitchen sink on top. They give generous portions, and I like having a side of salad with their own custom-made dill sauce. Nice! They also have other funny names for their burgers, and whatever we've tried tasted good, but we always end up going for the Fat Bastard.

I just skimmed some of the reviews about the food, but when you go to a pub, I don't think you should be ordering mussels, pasta, etc. Go get the burgers, hot dogs, or paninis. They're tasty, generous, and affordable.

This is my go-to place for drinks with friends downtown. There's nothing about 1905 that is particularly amazing, but meets all of my bar criteria. Fairly reasonable drink prices, tasty food, good seating, and a music level that makes conversation possible. I also like it because it's fairly reasonable to transit home from both for Oliver folk like myself, and for my friends who live near Whyte.

I've had a few not so great moments here, but overall things are pretty good. My only complaint is that they won't let me make reservations for a group, and so sometimes we end up scrounging for tables.

They also put goat cheese on a hot dog. Yum.

This pub is a weird mix of sketchy and cozy, of old man bar and the new hip place to be.  I don't know if I would come here to drink on a friday night but coming here for some beer and food earlier is a good choice.

I had one of their many hotdogs with fries and it was d-lish! The portions are large but I wouldn't come here looking for something healthy.

They also have pool tables and lots of TVs for watching sports.

I really like this place. Great location on Jasper Ave for those nights when you're just not feeling Whyte Ave and want something a little more mellow. The space itself is really quite big, with lots of tables and booths and a few pool tables in the back. The crowd is mixed - young and old, after work drinks or a late night - and has never been rowdy or obnoxious when I've been there, and the music isn't too loud that you can't talk to you buds across the table. There are some TVs playing sports. I always go at night, but I remember going once for lunch long ago and it being very busy.

I'll have to agree that the food here isn't the best. I've only eaten a couple of things here. I'm a salad freak - I had a 1905 Salad here once and was pretty disappointed with it. I've also had pizza, which was alright. A friend of mine ordered mussels once, and they were surprisingly good. I wouldn't write off the food here totally - it isn't great; I wouldn't go here for dinner, but a snack with a few beers isn't out of the question.

Drinks and food are reasonably priced, service is good most of the time, and I really like the atmosphere here.

Pub 1905 is questionable and draws a diverse crowd. I regularly bump shoulders with both grandmothers and bikers when entering through the angled doorway (watch your step, by the way). I ended up here by accident one evening on a dating misadventure. The guy & I never went out again, but ever since Pub 1905 has become a place I frequent at least once a month. The burgers here are incredible -- seriously! Nachos aren't bad either. Staff is average and the venue is nothing special, but trust me on the food, it will exceed every expectation. They serve up monstrous hotdogs because hey, sometimes that's just what you need. The point of all this is don't be deceived by appearances, Pub 1905 is a worthy stop... I just wish they'd reupholster the furniture.

I used to work here and I thought it would be a cool fun place to work. Menu seemed delicious and the atmosphere seemed pretty chill and relaxed. However, I soon came to realize that they cannot hold onto staff for the life of them. The girl who had been there the longest that trained me was there for 2 months! All the girls kept saying "We'll see if you last the week" And that's all it was- after I week I never wanted to go back there. The management is awful.

I haven't really been a customer here, but a business that is horrible to work for says a lot about the place. If the staff isn't happy, they probably won't be too pleasant to the customers, and if the customers aren't having a good time, slowly you will go out of business.

Food isn't bad though, they've got about 5 different types of hot dogs on the menu which I thought was kind of unique, but they are pretty pricey. It's an alright place, just not something I would chose if I had the option of other places.

Earlier this year, a boy wanted to take me on a hot-dog date for my birthday. Yeah, that's what I thought too, but what the hell, it's a free meal.
Pub 1905 was the spot he had in mind and this Jasper Ave sports bar really surprised me. Hot dogs truly are their specialty; I was expecting some kind of bacterial street-meat type deal but the menu was rife with creative, tasty-sounding options with fun and silly names, all available as veggie dogs if you wanted 'em. I did, and wound up with a gigantic veggie dog topped with (if I remember correctly) barbecue sauce, onions, tomatoes, and melted cheese alongside a green salad. It fed me twice that day (it was so good I took half to go) and I was impressed enough to tell my dad, who plans to keep the hot-dog date tradition alive with his own girlfriend, a noted hot-dog connoisseur, one of these days.

Veg platter was sooo good. Atmosphere is good if u want to go out and just chill and have a drink.  I tryed their smoked salmon sandwich which was alright considering it was pretty salty. They have pool tables there and the staff is attentive which is nice. :)

While I'm still a fan of Pub 1905, and I'm still giving the place a 4-star rating, I have to say that the quality of certain menu items has gone downhill a bit, recently, and the menu is out-of-date, despite being recently rewritten. For example, "The Dog That Shagged Me" says it comes with back bacon on the menu, but the last two times I've ordered it, it came with regular bacon.

It also seems like, at least every second visit, they are out of something that someone in my party wants to order.

Despite the recent hiccups, I still think that Pub 1905 if one of the best pubs in Edmonton. They have a good menu and inexpensive beer. But they need to fix the problems in the kitchen in order to maintain the positive word-of-mouth that they've been gaining over the past few years.

Do not set foot in this place! I'd leave zero stars if I could.....

We planned on a stop here for a large group for a special occasion.  They do not return calls for reservations.  They do not accommodate large groups and do not allow for questioning when they become over-the-top angry for anything but complete submission.
The service is aggressive, the management is ignorant and obtuse not to mention the food is mediocre anyway.  You can find cheap beer elsewhere.

Just go to Shanks or Whyte.  This place is a sorry excuse for a pub.

This is exactly what I look for in a pub. There's a great energy without feeling noisy or crowded. The food and the drinks are of equal value and  deliciousness. It's a great hangout/lunch/dinner pub.

The food at pub 1905 is nothing special. It is actually pretty mediocre but it is exactly what you would expect from the prices, so no surprises there.

My meal was too salty and I thought that maybe it was just mine but my friend's noticed theirs had too much salt also. The service wasn't that great either, everyone had attitude and it was just uncomfortable.

I was told they had the best burgers here but I was disappointed and won't be going back.

The drinks here are reasonably priced, with a good selection of beer. My rum and coke tasted very weak, and the server would sometimes forget requests (such as another straw when mine fell out of my glass). I thought the place was decent enough for a pub and I know it is very popular. I'm not sure what it is, but there is a good vibe here - I will likely come back and try something on the food menu.

The nachos are the best in the city and they have cheap wings on Fridays. The service can be iffy, but the music is quiet, so at least you can hear your friends.

Place is incredibly cozy and is a regular after school/work hangout for me and a group of friends for a Friday wing-off. I don't care too much for anything else on the menu..the pizza is alright..I was told the hot dogs were phenomenal and was a bit disappointed when I got mine. Dry ribs were mainly fried to the bone when I had them on their "rib night". Regardless of this, I still return every Friday with a napkin in my shirt, a pint of Heineken, and a stomach read to digest 40 hot wings.
