If I were cooler and richer than I actually am, I would dress myself in clothes from Pretty Things 100% of the time.

Instead, I've had to settle for owning only a couple of key items. But oh man, do I love them.

I think my favorite thing about the story is that the flirty, retro dresses they sell come in several different shapes and styles. Yeah, I'd love to be confident enough to rock a leopard print, super tight retro dress. But I feel waaaay more comfortable in, say, a cherry-print halter with a full skirt.

I find I often have to go a size up at this store, so just ignore the tag and focus on how good you look.

Bonus points for the awesome decor inside the store. I could hang out there all day. They should get a liquor license and serve sidecars.

The clothes are amazing - from petite to plus, everything is womanly, girly, gorgeous. Curve hugging glamorous dresses to flirty summer frocks.

The staff are friendly and helpful, and clearly love the product.

And you can even shop online if that's your preference.

    This place does Halifax proud.

Each time I visit this shop I see an item that catches my eye.  It could be a pair of shoes, a dress or a particularly appealing undergarment (I am terribly polite).  While I don't purchase something each time I drop by, I do luxuriate in the lovely items nestled within.

The balance of bold, jewel toned colours and the basics of black and white... The cut of the fabric really highlight for me the appeal of curves (thank god!)

Sales are frequent and trust me, there are treasures everywhere.

The sales professionals there are lovely.  Friendly, helpful and really do visually embody the spirit of the store.

I don't think I have ever had a better shopping experience.

Tonight (August 23, 2011) I found myself heading to my Aunt's apartment as we were delivered some unfortunate family news. After hashing it out for a little while, we decided to venture downtown for some eats. We found ourselves outside the doors of Pretty Things at 6:50 and wandered in to browse for the last 10 minutes before the place closed.

When I entered, I apologized for coming in so close to closing time, but the staff member (Stephanie) brightly told us to not worry. We started looking, and loved everything. I especially loved that they had sizing for all. Being a curvier lady - I was very excited.

I told Stephanie that I was in love with one of the dresses, and she told me to try it on - despite them closing in 5 minutes. I declined, but then realized that I could not resist at least (quickly) seeing what the dress looked liked on me.

I stepped out the change room, where Stephanie was there to offer her advise. She let me look, and even showed me a few more options to try on. She also did the same for my Aunt, who was browsing the dresses.

Around 7:30 (half an hour after closing) I walked out with the perfect dress for an upcoming wedding.

Stephanie, to me, has been one of the best customer service people I have met. She did not give us grief for showing up 10 minutes before closing and encouraged us to look around and take our  time. With this customer service, and great products - you cannot go wrong at Pretty Things.

This store is one of the best things about downtown Halifax. We need more retailers like PTB who offer unique clothing that some might consider "niche" but is more versatile than you might first think.

You have to be quick though. Some styles sell our very quickly!

Forget Justin Timberlake, for fun, confident women of all shapes and sizes, THIS STORE is bringing sexy back. Polka-dot dresses, red heart patterns, and bejeweled pink couches make for a playful shopping experience that shouldn't be missed and that's before you even get to the display of burlesque-style lingerie or a welcome from the flawless owner who I'm pretty sure I want to be...you know, like, in life.

I have no reason to be there, shop there, or even really know about it, but I just want to hang out there all the time drinking cocktails and listening to old jazz. Pretty Things Boutique is magical...it's like the Barbie Dream House after Barbie gets her first taste of vodka and second base.

And for giving me a reason to write that in a Yelp review, I love them even more.

What's not to love? Fun, flirty and unique fashions in a fabulous boutique = win. I just visited the new location on Blowers St last week for the first time. It's a great location - much more accessible and more room. I love the retro style of this shop. Much of the clothing is a throwback to the 40s-60s. Unfortunately for me, my body type doesn't often work with the shapes of that era. And when they do (hello Beverly dress!) I fit into larger sizes than I'm used to. I'm not small by any means, but I've never fit into anything smaller than an XL here. Not a huge deal, but just an FYI to others to maybe try a size or two larger than you normally do. Most of the clothing also comes in plus sizes.

Definitely check out the funky accessories, gorgeous shoes, and other fab miscellaneous wares.

Pretty Things is on the pricier side, but with good reason. The quality of the clothing is excellent, and you're not going to find these items anywhere else in the city.

I'd been hearing a lot lately about Pretty Things and I thought I'd check it out. I liked the downtown location which was easy to get to and find. Although if you're driving parking can be difficult to find. The layout and design of the store is gorgeous! Very open, spacey, and swanky.

But when it came to clothing I was kind of disappointed. The selection was lacking. I wanted the place to be packed with unique dressed and sexy styles. I love their website and I wish their store was an exact mirror of it. The site is packed with dresses, shoes and accessories while the store itself feels kinda empty in comparison.

The dresses were also pretty pricey. Most were over $100. I did some Googling later of the styles I found both in the store and on their website. I found almost all of their dresses for significantly less online. The "red diner dress" is $110 at Pretty Things, but only $80 at quite a few other online stores. A few dresses I found for $50 or less when Pretty Things had the price over $100. I understand that they have run a business but the markups seem a little high. This is my main problem with the store. I do love their attitude and clothing for every type of woman approach but I just want some good prices to match. I don't mind paying up to $15 over to buy local but the current markups are just to high for me to take.

An amazing selection of adorable dresses you won't find elsewhere.
The staff are really helpful and friendly, and the fitting rooms are spacious. They were even super-patient about me trying stuff on while my 18-month old escaped to run through the racks (it's hard to keep a handle on a little guy while you wrangle your way into pinup-style dresses.)
Be prepared to experiment with sizes - a lot of the lines are British and the sizing is a bit different there. If you have to go up - remember, it's just a number. Curvier ladies may need to try the plus section (but the dresses are just as gorgeous!)
I haven't experimented with the retro lingerie, but I love the fact it's available.
A solid choice for special occasion attire.

So.... I don't wear women's clothing (at least not in public... much).  I am writing this review because I've been in this store at both locations several times shopping with (and for) my partner.
The owner Cadence has the perfect business philosophy, "we don't sell clothing, we sell pretty".  So true.  With a selection that will make any size lady beautiful.  The staff are amazingly helpful and the decor of the new shop is warm and inviting (check out the new pink velvet couch!!!).
    5 stars because there isn't 6.

Who knew Halifax had a vintage inspired merchant of newly produded retro looks in dresses, skirts, underthings, right down to Marilyn Monroe style bathing suits?! A very pleasant suprize to see lines like Stop Staring, Retro Couture etc in stock in a wide variety of (some even very curvy) styles. Friendly pin curled retro young ladies work the floor and one finds oneself looking to them even for hair/makeup ideas. Don't let the pretty pink awning scare you off: this isn't a kids store! Lovely frocks for cocktails, stage, and general sassyness inside ;) Enjoy. Also have a web-site that does mail order.

I'm torn over Pretty Things. I love the idea of having a retro clothing store close to home but at the same time I've found the place to be a mixed bag.

The sizing can be a bit of a nightmare if you are blessed in the chest and hips. I normally am a size 12 but at Pretty Things I just fit into their largest size which is a bit of a crush to the ego. The plus sizes (or what I've noticed) in the more 50's-ish styles are actually junior sizes which doesn't equal out to true sizing. Or real woman sizing I do suppose. And I found the actual plus size stuff to be beyond hideous.

I do have to say the shoes are beyond fabulous and when they have a sale they do go all out. I'm excited to see the new location! I'm hoping the new location and expansion is space will mean that she'll have a bit more to offer for us 'plus size' gals by in regards to Rockabilly dresses with room for boobs AND hips.

Ladies, Ladies, Ladies. Pretty Things is a homage to feminine flare in its break from traditionalism. The shop's housing of retro and rockabilly fashions will embrace those beautiful curves and evoke the inner pinup girl! Betty Page? I think she would be pleased.

The boutique itself is a product of girlish whimsy. Its racks flourish with sophisticated and playful frocks of all shapes, patterns and sizes. (Thankfully, "Pin Up" doesn't equate "Pin Thin") From lace embroidered bustiers, to cocktail dresses, tops and jackets-- it is one inspired stocking for this niche fashion genre.

In my recent visit, I noticed some very work appropriate dresses to ooze retro edge, but in revision. Fashionable, savvy and bold-- its all very posh. With an entire boutique full of stand-out pieces, any Pretty Things purchase is guaranteed to turn heads.

Accessories and apothecary decorate any additional space, remaining fluid with the boutique's girly themes. Everything is boutique styled pricing, with a few steals thrown in for good measure. Currently, they've got some gorgeous large brimmed straw hats going for $20 each. Whew!

Fantastic shop and something different. Whether the retro thing is your style or not, Pretty Things can't be denied its utmost delectable presence in our fine little city.

I had been wanting to visit Pretty Things Boutique for a long time because their window displays are always artful and intriguing. This weekend I finally had a chance to stop in - and what a great little shop this is.

Owner Cadence Macmichael (who, according to the shop's website is also founder of Halifax's Pink Velvet Burlesque troupe) has created a fun store full of fashions "inspired" by the 1940s, 50s and 60s. The clothing is new, not vintage, and hearkens back to the "Mad Men" period. The shop stocks mostly women's clothing with a few mens' items, all classically stylish and very sexy.

One of the great things about Pretty Things is that the store regularly stocks a wide range of sizes for what I would call "real" women - women with curves, women who need more than a size zero. And the clothes here look HOT on that body type!

The boutique also offers a full online store. Now all we need is for someone to throw a fantastic cocktail party.

I'm a big fan of pretty things in general, and this boutique in particular ... note that they have moved to a new location downtown on Blowers Street (and you can also check out most, if not all of their merchandise online - and purchase it as well).

The shop is owned by local lovely Cadence Macmichael (who you might recognize as the founder and a performer in Halifax's Pink Velvet Burlesque troupe).  That partly explains why you can buy pasties in the store, but for ladies who want a little more coverage, they've got everything from stockings and slips to shoes and sweet dresses suitable for work and play.

This isn't the cheapest place to buy a dress, but generally what's there isn't available anywhere else in the city/province, quality tends to be high, and if you catch a sale (hello leopard print heels!) you can walk out without something relatively unique, potentially classic, not to mention slightly saucy ... and they get major bonus points for recognizing that sexy comes in all shapes and sizes!

    What a funky retro shop!

Lots of neat stuff including bath bombs, pin up style bathing suits and lingerie, cute little cardigans in assorted colours, fitted pencil skirts, dresses, and everything else 60's glam!

A cool place to stop and check out! A little on the pricer side than I expected for a tucked away little nook, but definitely worth a look!

Thank you Ang M. for being the first reviewer to review Pretty Things. I as looking for this store in order to review it and was hoping myself, a male, wouldn't be the first. It just made more sense for a woman to start off the reviews for this incredible store!

Cadence Macmichael, the creator of this incredible store is an amazing fashion guru. I don't have one female friend that doesn't like checking out Pretty Things. Their clothes are inspired by 1940's to 1960's style fashions. But they don't rely on looks alone. The quality of their clothes is fantastic! And if I were a woman, I would go crazy over their accessories as well.

Candence, who works there a lot of the time, is a genius with her fashion and business sense. She has a Facebook group you can join so that if they have sales, you will be one of the first to know.

The good news for men is that she is starting to have a small selection for us! Mainly T-Shirts and bowling shirts, but its a start. I would love to walk in there one day and find some inspired 1950's style suit. Hint, hint.

I love fashion no matter what gender its for. So when I walk into Pretty Things Boutique, I know I'm going to have a fun time. Cadence Macmichael outdid herself with this store and I know you will agree when you stop on by.

Pretty Things Boutique - Nice to see curves are back in style and people understand some women have a little more cleavage than others.

Gee, for a while there, I thought we all had to look like pins. Thank you Pretty Things Boutique. This woman took a page from the past. She has brought some of the classic styles into today's age, fun, adventurous and head turning attire.

I loved the selection of purses. Yes, this is my downfall. There is a great selection here and I do not think you will see it on multiple people.

My hat is off to this shop. A little on the high end, but I think well worth it.

A pinup paradise, ripe with cherry prints and cupcake patterns sure to whet the appetites of bombshells everywhere.

I ventured into this retro boutique today, interested in investigating the shop's wares and finding out more than what my regular window perusals have offered up. There was a flock of women at the counter making purchases and speaking with the crimson lipped beauty behind the counter. I was greeted and left to my own browsing devices.

The shop boasts American lines such as Stop Staring! and Heartbreaker - both specializing in dresses of the retro variety. Most of the frocks happened within the $75-$120 range and were made of cotton/poly blends. There were lots of great designs and colors, sure to suit the curves and tastes of many different women.

Pretty Things also carries a line of body products called Open Sundaes; one particular goody that caught my attention was hair powder - scented and colored baby powder type jazz meant to freshen up and degrease the old mop, sans shower! The shop also carries a local jewelery line called Songbird Designs, with cute pieces at affordable prices.

Pretty Things is as unique as it is captivating; filling a definite niche with its sexy apparel and funky accessories. This is a must stop shop for the fashion mavericks who swoon over vintage inspired designs.

Love the concept of this place. Set back in the good old day when women were just plan SEXY. Curves that would not stop and to be proud to show their rack.

I went to the website as someone at work showed me this little place and they knew I would love it. So Saturday I am off to see this place. A little boutique packed with pure perfection. Great cloths and stocking, bras, panties and all the goodies. Unfortunately I did not purchase anything as they did not have my sizes. I do ofter visit this location just to see what it in and if they might have something to go over my curves.

Great location for those who like to be different and bring out that Bombshell beauty.
