Dare I say that Prescott House is the best undergraduate residence at Carleton (so far). Prescot is one of the newer residences, which gives it extra points for cleanliness. I lived at Prescott during my first year of university and I am still thankful to this day that I was lucky enough to be placed here.
Prescott has a card-operated laundry facility downstairs at tunnel level and an RA on every floor to keep us students in line. They also have a garbage and recycling chute and vacuum on each floor, and even a lounge with a TV and some couches and tables. One of the biggest perks of Prescott is that each suite has a kitchenette, with a sink, full-size fridge, and microwave, as well as a common area with a table and chairs.
There were always four students per suite, and two different living arrangements. Some suites had four small bedrooms, a larger kitchen/common room, and two bathrooms, while others had two shared rooms and one bathroom. Students provided their own toiletries, kitchenware, and, if you wished, you could bring in your own burner or other small appliances to cook with.
Regardless of whether you shared a room, you had a bed, desk, chair, garbage bin, shelf, and closet. The bedrooms were carpeted, while the kitchen and common room was tiled, which made it a lot easier for clean-up. Because this was the only undergraduate residence that had a kitchenette at the time, students living in Prescott also had an additional option for their meal plans, which included less meals per week for those that wanted to cook in their own suites.
I lived with one roommate and two suitemates. When applying for residence, we had to fill out a questionnaire and were assigned a roommate, suitemates, and a floor that would compliment our personalities. I thought this was a fantastic idea and I was so happy to live with the people on my floor. If you're assigned this res, be grateful!
