Thanks everyone for giving great reviews and pointing me to Prep Work. I have now had two haircuts at Prep Work over the past few months and both cuts have turned out awesome.
My hair has difficult, stubborn waves on one side at the front and Danielle not only shaped my cut to control it, but showed me several ways of taming it (they work). She provides exceptional cuts and the best styling tips I've been given. I have a great time with Danielle and her staff. Make sure you get on their client list while you still can! -

Definitely worth the money. I have been getting my hair cut very rarely in the past while because it is growing out, and my last few cuts from Danielle have lasted ages and grown out gracefully without getting that awkward overgrown-mullet look.
I adore the old heritage tower the studio is in, and enjoy being treated to cookies and coffee while I'm there. I will report back when I've had a fancy dye job. -

5 freaking stars for the best haircut I've ever had. PERIOD.
I wanted to save my 50th review for Danielle at Prep Work... Thank you SO much to fellow Yelpers whose reviews made me book my appointment here. I was pretty tired of getting mediocre haircuts and never being truly happy with the end product. I saw that Prep Work was rated extremely highly by its Yelpers, so I figured it must be worth the visit. And boy, it WAS!!!!
**I had trouble finding where Prep Work was. On Yelp, the map shows its location as supposedly on Seymour and West Georgia... which is completely WRONG!!! The real address is 525 Seymour, studio 206 (on 2nd floor)... Prep Work is on Seymour, close to Pender.**
Anyway, because I was lost I was a few minutes late to my appointment. Danielle was totally nice about it. I had a short, shoulder-length cut that I had been cutting myself throughout the summer... so needless to say, it was pretty choppy and uneven. I wasn't sure what kind of cut I wanted, but I knew that I wanted it to have volume and dimension - not flat. We looked through some magazine pictures she had, and there was a model with a short, messy bob that looked HOT... I pointed it out but I didn't think I'd be able to pull off the look. She thought the contrary and told me that I could pull it off... so I decided to trust her!
I have to admit I was slightly scared to see my hair become so SHORT - once she was done, I could see the back of my neck from behind! I've NEVER had hair this short! But her cut was so skillful, with a lot of layers and it really looked stylish & trendy. It was exactly what I'd been wanting in previous haircuts (minus the length) and something other stylists never achieved.
To top it off, she introduced me to an amazing styling product and showed me how to style my hair... Wow, what a difference. I literally couldn't recognize myself; even Danielle commented on how I looked like a Japanime character - as a compliment! Really, I was shocked. No exaggeration. I was even able to buy this product from her before I left. Later, when I looked it up online, I was pleasantly surprised to see that it retails for more at other stores.
The only minor complaint I had was with her assistant who gave me a shampoo and massage... It was actually very below average. I know she's in training but it was like she really didn't know what she was doing.
Despite that, I still give 5 stars to Danielle who gave me a haircut that has me showered with compliments. Even my mom, who is very stingy with complimentary words, commented that my hair was cut very well. I never thought I would be so comfortable and confident with short hair...
I also loved how it was truly a one-on-one hour with her, and you weren't in the middle of a busy salon filled with stylists who are trying to work on multiple clients at once. It felt much more personal and intimate, all about you and your needs. Thanks to Judi P. who let me know that Danielle currently charges $55 for a cut! Danielle, I hope you won't be raising your prices anytime soon - I can't wait to come back!!!!! -

There are few things I will pay great big gobs of money for - flattering jeans, a bathingsuit that tells me sweet little lies and a good hair do.
While I still haven't found jeans that convincingly make my ass look like a 12-year-old boy's and I won't even discuss swim suits -- I have discovered Danielle at Prep Work. ANNNNND she barely even charges a medium gob of money!
Her cute, intimate but airy salon is located in a cool old building on Seymour. Best wall colour. Ever. You get attentive one-on-one treatment and she is an excellent technical cutter. She mixed a beautiful custom colour for me last week and I've been complimented on it many times since.
I like that Danielle is creative, is up to date on current styles and has suggestions BUT still respects your boundaries. As in, if you request JUST a couple of inches off you won't wind up weeping over piles and piles of hair at your feet.
She's super funny and personal and is never snotty about her free bang trim service.
Book her, Danno. Oh, and bring cash! -

I cannot possibly say enough good things about Danielle. She's been cutting my hair for upwards of 6 years now, and I couldn't be happier. I get bored easily and probably change my haircut every two or three months and Danielle has never let me down - she often knows what I want in a haircut even before I do. Her sense of humour, charm and wit make every appointment a joy... not to mention that PrepWork is a far cry from the loud hustle and bustle salons that I had been used to in the past. Needless to say, if you're lucky enough to snag an appointment with Danielle, you're in for a real treat!

Prep Work is the secret I'd like to keep to myself but can't do in good conscience. Danielle runs an exceptional site hidden away in downtown Vancouver. Frequented by stalwarts of the BC art community and even regular guys like me, everyone comes away looking better than before.
Beyond a top chop job, you can expect engaging dialogue on rogue theatre, performance art, the pains of aging, or even hair aesthetics.
Tip well and you won't get nicked by the razor either. -

It's been almost a month since I went to see Danielle @ Prep Work Hair and my new cut and style are holding nicely! I've received some great compliments but the biggest of all would be a very styling gal pal who needled me for her number. I reluctantly caved.
Like so many other reviewers I've bounced around from stylist to stylist in an effort to find someone whose hands I trust in my tresses and whose personality, style and ethos are a strong fit.
Danielle patiently worked with me, piecing together a do I LOVE! based on the sketchy photos I had brought, lifestyle discussion, and working through the various books and magazines she had at hand. That Prep Work is housed in a heritage building, hidden from the masses, adds to the charm and appeal (at least for me).
The time I spent with Danielle felt more like an hour hanging out and chatting with a friend who had serious scissor skills. Danielle, I'll be back! (actually, mental note to make next apt) -

Danielle is fabulous, my hair always looks fabulous, and I get a wonderful scalp and neck massage in the process too. No need for a lengthy review....hands down Prep Work is amazing.
