    I love this bakery!

I live in Columbus, OH - my uncle lives in Montreal. He comes to this bakery every day for breakfast. When I come to visit, I do too. I love the pastries. I don't ever remember being disappointed here.

I do, however, get disappointed being back in Columbus trying to find some pastries to eat for breakfast. There just aren't bakeries of the quality of Premiere Moisson in Columbus, Ohio.

As of 9/10/11: came here craving some pastries before my Mont Royal climb and found out from the Gallery lady that the bakery is CLOSED! :(

My search for almond croissant in Montreal continues...

This Montreal staple is located in and around the city. The one I frequent the most is in the Plateau, just off Mont Royal.

This bakery-bistro is celebrated for making authentic specialty breads using natural ingredients and time-honoured techniques...um, right. Call me simple, but I just like how the bread is soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside.

If you find bread boring, allow me to entice you with the promise of great coffee and delectable pastries. I find mini things awesome, and PM's individual portions are too cute to not buy, even if you don't like sweets. Their crème brule is sold in these terracotta-like ramekins (which you get to keep).

And for you chocolate lovers, let me introduce the chocolate fantasy:

    Tempting isn't it?

Had the smoked salmon baguette with capers and the bouchon praline. The sandwich was great, the pastry was good but the fact that it didn't wow me may just be a matter of taste.
Plenty of selection of breads, sandwiches and pastries, as well as a seating area.  Good location on the way to/from the museum.

Nothing makes me weak in a the knees quite like a well executed French pastry, ahhh *swoon*. Ok mushiness aside, I think this is place is pretty freakin' awesome. After a long hike up and down Mont-Royal at the crack of dawn with my folks, we were all starving. This is where we ended up. Below I will list a play by play account of everything that we consumed between the three of us.

Criossant aux amandes - Not as flakey as I like a criossant to be but the almond filling was great. I also liked the crunchy topping of toasted almonds. Overall could have used a few more layers of buttery goodness and some more sugar.

Abricotine - Flakey layers were better than the almond croissant and the fruit filling tasted very fresh. Must have been pretty good because I only got one bite of this before my dad devoured it.

Gâteau au fromage - I got the cheesecake because of the rave reviews I read on this site beforehand and I have to say it does not disappoint. It's lighter than a traditional American cheesecake but still delivers a rich favor and creamy texture. Crust was also very thin leaving the cheesecake portion to be the star of the show. This was probably my favorite out of everything we ordered.

Crème brûlée -Sadly I kinda regretted getting this because it was obvious that it wasn't fresh. The sugar topping wasn't fired up right after I ordered it and the ingredients in the creme portion were starting to separate. The only interesting thing was that the creme layer is very thin so it absorbs some of the burnt sugar flavor but then again this could have been the result of sitting there for a while.

I thought everything tasted very authentic but I can't claim to be an expert on these matters. The costumer service was top notch and there was a great setting area both outside and inside. Definitely a highlight of my trip.

Tip: If you want to taste a bunch of the pastries without spending a lot then try the bread basket. It's mostly croissants but it has a good variety. Also very portable for bringing to a friend's place or enjoying outside.

So I have to admit something: I love almond croissants. With an undying passion. Whenever I go to a new city, I try to track down a good almond croissant. And thankfully, Premiere Moisson delivers.

I ended up going to various locations several times throughout my week in Montreal because the pastries really are delicious. The almond croissant is giant and filled with ample amounts of almond paste and flavor surrounded by buttery croissant. What more can you ask for?

I also tried some of the other pastries, but I kept going back for the amandine. So good.

This location is also pretty good for sitting down and taking a breather. It's perfectly acceptable to camp out with a book or some work while you slowly savor your pastries.

Rode a BIXI bike from my hotel to this Premiere Moisson location for a lovely breakfast before a ride through Mont Royal. Snagged a prime people-watching table outside. This particular location has a great neighborhood cafe feel, particularly when contrasted to the huge, bustling Premiere Moisson I visited at the Jean-Talon market.

    Foodnalysis:
    - Coffee - Wonderful. Free refills. YES!
    - Chocolate Croissant - Very good, but not top notch. I've had more than my fair share of chocolate croissants... this was maybe in the top 20%.
    - Brie, Pear, Walnut Sandwich - Served on a delicious baguette, flavors blended so well.  The creaminess of the cheese contrasted the crisp crunch of the other ingredients well.

    The Bottom Line:
Great neighborhood cafe. Nice stop for coffee and a light breakfast or lunch, near Mont Royal.

This long distance relationship is killing me.

I am a cheesecake fantatic. I just love them.  Living in New York allowed me to try some of the best in the country: Eileen's, Venerio, Ferrara, S&S,  Artisanal's, Bouley, David Glass...  And I even order them in the best bakeries in Hongkong, Germany,  Luxembourg , France, China, Japan... so, you get the idea, how much I love Cheesecakes. But I have never found the right combination of flavor and texture...until I had my first bite at Premier Moisson....

Oh... Premier Moisson, you are THE cheesecake of all Cheesecake. You ended my quest for the ultimate cheesecake, with one tiny problem ...I have to travel across the boarder for you.

During our stay in Montreal, we went back to the bakery every single day, for breakfast, for snack, for dinner.. anytime I could fit in a slice...I knew I found THE cheesecake of my life: it's creamy, it's not too soft or fluffy, right amount of airyness and density,  not overly sweet, tangy made with the best cream cheese that you could taste...

I am still looking for something comparable to you, my love, without traveling so far.

I felt so bad for the girl who had to make our sandwiches! Each one took so much work and time -- contrary to a visit at your local Subway. Coming back from Paris, we were expecting mouth watering baguettes, but was slightly disappointed. It was still a solid sandwich though... the smoked ham was delish but there was too much bread.

I wish Montreal had more of a selection, or even a local deli delivering a bad ass baguette. It can't be that hard to make a good simple sandwich, can it? But the place was packed, so I'm sure they get tons of business already.

They have tons of pate and foie gras to choose from. As for meats, they only had a small selection (roast beef, smoked meat, salami, ham)... no turkey. They have tons of bread to choose from, and desserts. There's plenty of space inside and tables outside so you can have your meal.

For those of you who've seen "Bottle Shock"...well, I believe there should be an equivalent in the pastry/boulangerie department.

Amongst some places out West, Premiere Moisson could seriously take on some infamous Parisian bakeries in a heartbeat.

Rows of gorgeous and affordable desserts and breads.

Minus 1 star for charging me 2 cappucinos when all I wanted was 1 extra shot espresso in my first cappucino...kind of strange...

Excellent bread.  I'm lucky enough to pass by on my way home from work, so I stop in a couple of times a week to pick up fresh bread as needed.  I always try something different, and its always good.  If I buy a loaf I usually ask to have it sliced, otherwise I pick up paninis for making sandwiches in my sandwich press.

A little tip: don't forget to take a number on the way in, especially on weekends when it can get hectic.  Occasionally service can be sloooooow, mainly because of all the customers.  Once your number is called though they'll wisk you through asap.

super long queues and inviting boulangerie fare brought us into this quaint slightly below-street-level joint. We were surprised to see a ticker tape at the door, and were a bit confused about how to place our orders, but once we managed to get our food, there weren't any regrets. The french (quebecois) really know how to bake, and butter and caramel. The pear and brie roll was excellent. So were the sandwiches, modestly-priced chicken wings, and creme brulee.

I absolutely love the bakery. The chocolate croissant is so good! It's so light and fluffy and it has just the right amount of chocolate. Everything looked amazing in there from the baguettes, pastries, pates by weight.

What can I say but OMG! I yelped near places while on my stay and this bakery happened to be up the street. After so many awesome reviews I finally went. Very upset I left this place for the last of my stay. Hands down the best cheesecake Ive ever had in my entire 33 years of life. The chocolate croissant, to die for...and the double capucchino gave me a glimps of heaven. You must try, cant wait for my next vacation.

Incredible. Amazing. Especially if the bakery is on the ground floor of your Montreal flat. That's exactly where a branch of this spectacular bakery, Première Moisson, was located when I visited friends in the city recently. We basically wandered down in our pajamas, waited patiently in the long but steadily moving line, practiced our best French accents, and then more or less pointed hungrily to everything we wanted. A memorable late-morning breakfast in zero-degree (Fahrenheit) temps, with steaming mugs of French-press (what else!) coffee, breads, jams, pastries, and lots of great memories shared. I also bought a really cute penguin made of marzipan for my wife, who was not traveling with me (it was a business trip). But when I returned, she refused to eat such a lovely creation, so he has been our "freezer penguin" ever since. We even took him with us from Baltimore to CA when we moved cross-continent. He loves it in his new fridge.

We walked several blocks to this bakery EVERY day we were in Montreal... we had to if we were gonna try all the goodies!  We enjoyed the pastries (almond croissant was incredible), pretty little cakes, breads (I would carry around an orange & chocolate baguettine in my purse all the time if I could), and simple but tasty sandwiches.  The jams and butter cookies are terrific as well, so bring some home with you!
