I absolutely love the stuff from prairie mill, whether it's the divine apple cheddar bread.  Or the dark notes of the Russian Rye everything they make is superb.  I especially like their cinnamon buns heated up as a nice hearty breakfast.

They also sell fresh ground whole wheat flour for the bakers out there.

As a final treat they have a frequent buyer program that lets you get free bread after 10 (or maybe 12) loaves.

    Highly recommended

I'm from Saskatchewan, so the words prairie and pioneer bread get my attention.  I drive within 1km or so of Prairie Mill regularly but have never made the effort to swing by until last week.  I have been missing out.

I wandered in on Wednesday and was offered a sample of bread.  They had a few kinds available as per the weekly schedule (check the website) and I chose Apple Cheddar.  I nearly fell over when I was handed an entire, super thick slice.  Who does that?!  Most places offering samples are stingy, but not here.  I was really excited (because I love to eat) and helped myself to the dish of butter they have sitting nearby.  I never thought I'd pay $6.75 for a loaf of bread, but being able to enjoy a large slice and truly appreciate it is what sold me.  Then there was no way I was leaving without a loaf of Apple Cheddar bread.  They earned their money alone through generosity, never mind their insanely delicious baking.

As mentioned by Lindsay K., it is a simple bakery.  They specialize in bread but do have a handful of other items.  For me, this will be a future grocery stop for when I want to impress company.  In addition, as a sole proprietor myself, I'd much rather support this business than a franchise.  I'm excited to have started my frequent buyer card.

Prairie Mill Bread Company is located in the same shopping center as my dentist.  This fact is the only thing that motivates me to go to the dentist... I know I'll get to buy some yummy, freshly-baked bread afterwards.  I am used to living in communities with small, local bakeries on every corner (or at least in every neighborhood).  Moving to Calgary was a big shock to me, when I realized that the best bread option in my area was (the franchise bakery) Cobs!  Yikes!

You can see Prairie Mill's traditional breads and daily specials on their website.  I was there last Thursday and picked up a dense, delicious loaf of Russian Rye.  It was so fresh I could feel the warmth through the bag!  I've been slowly enjoying the bread for the past three days and it's maintained its freshness wonderfully (despite the obvious lack of chemicals and preservatives).

I might just have to make the trip to Prairie Mill Bread Company a little more often!

I love Prairie Mill. I first got addicted to their delicious breads when they were located just outside of downtown. Then they had to go and move, and now I can only get my fix of "Honey White" when I have time to trek north during their business hours.

Actually, I just browsed their website and apparently they deliver with Spud! I'm going to have to get on this. Prairie Mill is undoubtedly worth every penny...

Their breads are very dense, and full of flavour. You get a really chewy bite, but it also takes a million years to toast. That's cool, as you can use that time to select which one of the delicious jams they stock to use. I do not recommend for grilled cheese. Experience, my friends.

My recommendations include: the pesto parmesan, cinnamon raisin (the kids will love it), and the sunflower whole wheat. Carbs are so good.

I had no idea Prairie Mill existed until I stumbled upon it one day.  The shop is small, carrying mainly breads.  There was a basket of cinnamon buns and cookies.  There were only a couple loaves of banana bread left, so I instantly gravitated to a chocolate chip one, they were quite big, for $7.  I looked at the loaves of bread, cranberry orange appealed to me the most, a loaf was $6.  They had multigrain, seven grain, millet, muesli, honey, to name a few, mostly going for $6.  All the bread and goods are baked fresh daily.  There is a daily chart of the specialty breads made each day.  Everything is made with organic flour.  They also had a nice collection of organic honey's and jams.  The Banana bread turned out to be perfect!

I am so glad I found this bakery and I can't wait to try more of their items!  I highly recommend checking it out if you like fresh bread!

Prairie Mill Bread Company is a rather simple, but very delicious bakery.  They don't offer a crazy amount of baked goods, but everything they have is top quality... and for a good price.

They do have an abundance of breads to choose from including raisin, sourdough, whole wheat, rye, etc.  There's lots to choose from.  They also have a couple of desserts like cinnamon buns and big cookies.

If you aren't looking for baked good, they have an assortment of different spreads like jam, jelly, and honey.  I especially like their granola, which is only $5 for a pretty big bag.

The thing I liked most about Prairie Mill was that they have nutritional facts about each of their products displayed on the counter, so you know exactly what you're eating.  Next to that is a weekly schedule of the specialty breads they make, which lets you know what days you should by.  Very handy!

I could mention the amazing aroma as soon as you walk in, but that should be a given with any bakery.  The smell makes you want to buy everything in the store!  Prairie Mill makes a nice little bakery and I'm going there next time I'm in the mood for raisin bread!

There's nothing quite like fresh baked bread. Oh gawd, my salivary glands are in full force as I think of my recent visit to Prairie Mill.

Whether you're looking for a savoury bread, or a sweet snack, Prairie Mill offers homemade goods with no added preservatives or oils. Shaped by hand and made with organic ingredients, Prairie Mill offers some of the most delicious starchy snacks I have ever had.

A few of their specialties (available on a rotating schedule) include loaves such as: apple caramel, cheddar, Mediterranean, sourdough, pesto Parmesan, Spinach Onion, and Tomato Cheddar.

Plus if you're anything like me and suffer from a severe sweet tooth, I'm positive you'll appreciate their gigantic cinnamon rolls, oatmeal cookies and banana bread.
