Today is the last day this restaurant will be open (at this location). The owner and his wife have sold the location to another business, and looking to move their business elsewhere with no set date yet.

Came here for the last meal: Noodles were still very tasty, made and cooked with just the right bounce to it. The soup pork dumplings were still freshly made and juicy. The soup and spicy soup as delicious and rich as ever (I love how the spicy-ness is mostly like the pepper kind of spicy and not the type of spicy that burns your tongue) -- it's the kind of soup that you can't just stop at one bowl.

Since I'm a regular there, the owner offered to take down our contact number and would call us when they've set up shop again!

Ok, went back again tonight.  Service was still very friendly, the restaurant still looks well kept, they still have the nice quality of tea, and the complimentary snacks.

Tried the xiao long bao with shrimp this time.  I actually prefer the "regular" xiao long bao.  The ones with shrimp did not have as much soup inside, and the meat portion was not as flavourful.  The shrimp also struck me as frozen, not fresh.  So stick with the regular xiao long bao here.

Also tried the bang bang chicken.  The sauce was excellent.  Nicely spicy, yet not overpowering.  There was almost no chicken though.  Perhaps 3 shreds total.  Remember those old Wendy's commercials for, "Where's the beef?"  This was definitely a, "Where's the chicken?" moment.

Also tried the tofu and seafood hotpot.  I've decided seafood is not their strength here.  The squid were overcooked and a bit chewy.  The shrimp had clearly been frozen.  There was a bit of white fish that tasted like it had also been frozen.  Some nice veggies, and excellent tofu rounded out and saved the dish.

So the conclusion from tonight - skip the seafood options, focus on porky things, and don't be surprised if you feel like saying, "where's the chicken?"

I'll be back though - as I can't get those original xiao long bao and the "chopped pork" pork chop out of my mind.

Wow, a real true gem for Vancouver.  Super solid 4.5 stars. My mom picked this restaurant during our visit to Vancouver last week and she picked it out of a Chinese Newspaper advertisement.  Shockingly, this place has DAMN GOOD FOOD.

We were the first to show up at 11am and were warmly greeted by the family that owns this business and the smell of incense burning. They must have just finished their morning prayers to their Restaurant God and were firing up their kitchen.

This place is SMALL.  It can hold maybe 40 people.  But if you have a larger group, call ahead and they can put out the big round table tops with the spinning lazy Susan's often seen at Chinese restaurants.

The food here is AMAZING.  It's hard to find TRUE GENUINE Shanghainese food and this is just about as good as it gets!  Yes, I'm only giving it 4.5 stars because the potstickers were a teeny bit bland, but it was cooked perfectly.

5 stars for everything else.  I love how they serve their Xiao Long Bao here, in little tiny saucers that have been oiled so that you can pick it up easily and not risk breaking the dumpling that holds all the yummy soup (see pic).  There was SO much delicious soup in there.  Then the Dan Dan noodles were perhaps the BEST I have ever had.  Whenever I go to Shanghainese restaurants, I always order these two things to gage how good the restaurant is.

I've never had Dan Dan noodles this good.  The noodle was perfectly cooked to a nice bouncy texture - while the broth was a creamy peanutty pool of ecstacy.  Too often at other restaurant, the soup is not done like this. My parents agreed that this was the best they have ever had also.  My dad enjoyed it so much he picked up the enitre bowl of leftover soup and just DRANK it.

Dad also ordered their salty soy bean soup (a very common way to start your Shanghai style meal) and personally, I've NEVER liked it salty and prefer it sweet.  But, I tried it and again, really nice.  The soy was delicious! (see pic again).

I can't wait to try it again one day, but it will be a while before I return back to Vancouver.  But please, give this place a try because it is INSANELY authentic and delicious.

Great family-run small restaurant with excellent xiao long bao (pork soup dumplings) with great prices.  The interior is simple and clean.

We had the xiao long bao, pan-fried pork dumplings, Dan-Dan noodles, hot and sour soup and seafood fried noodles - which was a lot of food for two people as we didn't expect the portions to be so large and we came out stuffed of good food for cheap.

The main draw for me was the XLB and they are tasty and juicy and as R. can attest to - it can explode all over your shirt.  The are steamed in little saucer dishes within the bamboo tray - which I think makes them extra moist and a lot easier to handle (as opposed to chopsticks on a thin membrane of juicy-goodness).

The other surprises with the pan-fried pork dumplings (big and tasty, just wish they were fried a bit more so they were closer to potstickers) and the seafood fried noodles (one of the best I've had).  The Dan Dan noodles were a bit too mushy for my liking.

The food does take a while to come out - as I guess the kitchen staff is probably a one-person operation.  But the little complimentary appetizers and frequent tea refills help with the wait for freshly-made food.

Be aware that they are closed in the late afternoon (I think from 3PM - 5PM) - I made the mistake of showing up at around 2:30PM and the family staff were sitting down to an early dinner during the last half of my stay.

Anyways - a great family-run joint with good food.  I recommend loading up on the pork dumplings and xiao long bao.

Their XLB is alright and just an odd presentation.  The shredded ginger in the vinegar is cut as thin as hair so that is very Shanghai.  Will certainly go again.  Good food - there are better elsewhere for a higher price.
