Today, I went and saw Judy today for a color and cut, and left with a color and cut better than I had even expected!

The color:   is this gorgeous rich dark brown with violet red undertones, and was waaaay better than the picture I'd shown her of what I wanted. She grabbed another girl and they talked about what to do with the color to make sure the roots weren't more reddy than the rest of my hair, and I thought that was awesome.  I went in so confident with the color she was putting on, and totally relaxed.  So the color - major win. It's one of the most beautiful colors I've ever seen on my hair, and she even toned it in a way to make my skin glow. Umm.. color genius, yes.

The cut:   Im growing my hair out of a bob and she cut it so gorgeous, and so I can wear it curly or straight.  And at the end we flipped my bangs back to being blunt fringe from side-swept bangs.  She took it a whole 'nother level and made it a bit asymmetrical, and it really finished off the whole cut and color.

And to boot, she even remembered me from *August*, the last time I got a hair cut.

All in all I left feeling beautiful, happy, and super pampered. Again, Judy, Thank you!

I need to get my hair cut at the least every 3 months or it gets split ends.  Now when you're earning no income, this becomes a luxury.  I had to switch hair stylists mainly because of this.  Plus HST makes hair care more difficult to afford too.  And of course I didn't want to short tip a stylist either.   I didn't want to risk my style completely.  Poppy was recommended to me by Janet F. I booked an appointment with a junior stylist for $40.

Patrice cut my hair and she did it with so much care and precision. I was thoroughly impressed. She was really good at listening to what I wanted and spent a great deal of time and effort to make sure it was done right, which I appreciated. Plus, she was very easy to talk to and was a good conversationalist.

I also noticed that she didn't try to push any products on me, which I appreciate. When I'm ready to buy new products, I like to be able to buy them without being pressured to.

I had a good experience and will definitely keep her in mind for my next cut.

I was in dire need of a hair cut (it has been 4 months!). I didn't want to go back to my last salon, not because it was a bad one but because I wanted to try something new. I decided to go to Poppy after a lot of searching on Yelp...

And Yelpers totally know what they are talking about! This is a cute little boutique hair salon with a bright airy interior and really nice stylists. Vanessa cut my hair and she was really good about listening to all of my broken concepts of what I wanted my hair to look like. She was patient with me when I wasn't sure about how short my bangs should be and cut them inch by inch (or cm by cm) to make sure that they were at a comfortable length for me.

I would definitely go back to Poppy again for my next haircut!

Susan does great restorative color. I'm a blond and often get brassy locks from fancy salons that stick me with the less experienced colorist. Take it from me, ask for susan and you shall receive.

No Wifi so bring a book, as you ladies well know this process is a 2 hour deal at least.

Don't you love how you feel right after a hair cut? Well, at least after you get all those prickly hairs outta your shirt!

I really love the laid back atmosphere of Poppy. I showed up with quite a mop yesterday, and Ainsley somehow made me look hot again.
Poppy is a higher end salon without all the pretentiousness that usually accompanies the others.

I read about this place while browsing in lululemon and figured it was time for a hair cut. So I called them up and got an appointment with their junior stylist that day. I love my haircut and lets just say my hair isn't easy to do.  Thanks Sarah! This place has obviously become known because you definitely have to book ahead of time but it is well worth it.
Also, if you get there early don't fret! There is a little boutique in the front of the store with lots of neat stuff made by locals.
I know that they also do fabulous guy cuts..and I am in the process of getting my boyfriend to make the jump to a salon. Now the challenge begins. :)

I sent my boyfriend in to get his hair cut - just to test it out. The staff is really friendly and the cut is fantastic (thanks Jarred).

I had a great time waiting for his cut to be done. With brands like Bring Your Own Bag, Delux hats, Bumble and Bumble- it was easy to shop!  The owner told me that the selection changes all the time - so I'll be dropping in when I'm in the neighbourhood.

I like that it's a little like Lou Lou and a funky, friendly hair salon all at once.

And the best part (well for an eco-warrior like me!)- is its an environmentally friendly salon - they use Aveda colour and Davines hair products.

Moving to a new city and finding a hairdresser can be a daunting experience, but thanks to http://Yelp.ca I found Poppy.

My first haircut was well overdue and Ainslie did a great job at both the cut and colour.

My next appointment was with Sarah and I went from long long hair to almost a bob and LOVE it! For such a big step, Sarah suggested I have the cut and blow wave looking away from the mirror so I couldn't see her chopping off my locks. When it came to the big reveal I felt like  a whole new woman! Sarah made what could have been a stressful situation an absolute delight.

The salon is gorgeous with boutique accessories and products at the front, gorgeous red poppy touches throughout and lovely hand cream in the bathroom (I think you can tell a lot about a place from the moisturiser in the bathroom!), good pricing, and the hours are very convenient.

Since my first visit to Poppy I've recommended a couple of friends and all reports have been excellent. Book in today! (Yes they're open Sundays)

I usually need some time after a cut to assess it. And now I can say that I don't really like my cut. It's kind of blah. I hope it gets better in 2 weeks.

I did like the fact that my stylist came over to let me know she was running late after I waited for 10 minutes and that she didn't rush my cut when her next client was waiting.

What did stylists do before flat irons? I don't like it when stylists flat iron my hair after a cut because it really masks everything. I flat iron my own hair when I'm having a bad hair day.

In the past, I ask to dry and style my hair after a cut so I can see what it really looks like. Salon blow dries aren't really my thing unless they are NOT the poufy type.

I'll try and break down why I don't like the haircut.

It feels flat like I have less volume on top and on the side (maybe too much layering?). I also have a longish face so that's bad.

Part of the layering occurred at the shoulders so it's been bulging out in that area. This part frames my face and the bulging/waves bring even more attention to the different lengths as the longer layers sit past my shoulders and the shorter layers sit curled above my shoulders - 2 cut look.

I've been flat ironing it to mask the 2 cut look. Today, I was even tempted to fix it be going for a bob or a pixie cut.

I went to Poppy because a friend recommended it.  All I needed was a quick trim, and when I called they had an opening for me the same day.  My haircutter was very friendly and listened to what I wanted.  After the
cut, she blowdryed it and it felt silky and very light.  The products they use give the salon a nice smell.  Also- there's a small array of purses and jewelry.  Neat stuff at ok prices.

I have been going to Poppy since it opened.  The store front is super cute, with a great selection of hair products by Bumble and Bumble and Davines, as well as funky jewelry and accessories.  I have my hair colored by Susan who is a fantastic colorist, my hair color always looks incredibly natural after she has worked her magic.  I have also had my hair cut and styled by Sarah, who listens to what you want and knows how to translate it to a lovely haircut.

I recently had a great experience at Poppy. I was in Vancouver on family business (I live in San Francisco) and on short notice decided that it was time to see a colorist. I had recently been debating about going grey, and saving some $$$ on the cost of regular tints and highlights. I was lucky enough to get a same day appointment with Susan Hyslop. She's the best colorist and as nice a person as you could hope to meet. She took the time to talk to me about the process of going grey (changed my mind on that one...); then gave me a tint and the most fabulous highlights I've had in ages. I have great colorist in San Francisco--at one of the city's best salons. But Susan was as good or better and the price was incredibly reasonable (under $100 for a full tint and highlights.. long hair). I'm hoping for more occasions, sooner rather than later, to get back up to Vancouver. So, if you live there, or are just visiting, given Poppy at try.

Great colour,   Susan is very good at highlights.  My blonde is a nice warm natural looking mix.  I would definitely go to Susan again.  Someone else there cut my hair and the cut is fine but not anything memorable.
