I wish I could decorate my entire house with Polly Magoo style stuff. I love the worldly feeling that this home decor has. It is indian/hippie inspired stuff that is beautiful. This store had beautiful silk flowers (cherry blossoms I think..) long before they were available everywhere in Edmonton.
The smell upon first walking in is ethnic and musky. And not in the bad way.
I am not a fan of the clothing here. I think it is a little too bohemian to me, but I can see why other ladies would love them. -

I used to really love Polly's. They sell so many unique and interesting things. But after stopping in for years, I've noticed some things.
1. Back when I was a size 2, I fit into all of the clothes there no problem. Now that I have some womanly curves, I fit into virtually nothing. Most of their clothing is one size only -- and that doesn't mean "one size fits all" ... I mean, they only have ONE size. These days I can only dream of buying their unique and interesting clothes!
2. Their turnover for non-clothing items is not great. The same jars and stuff I saw in 2005 are still kicking around.
3. The quality of some of their jewelry isn't terribly high. Back when I was in high school I only wanted cheap costume jewelry, but now I want items that are well made. Look through the other stores down Whyte and you can find some similar items that look more polished.
I want to love Polly's -- their unique style, friendly staff and spunky attitude are great. It's too bad ... I used to buy from here all the time, but in the last few years I've always left empty-handed.Listed in: Dibs Out

I love the clothes here because they will fit a wide range of body sizes. The shop girls are also always friendly and helpful. That being said, I don't shop here often because of the high prices and flimsy make of many of their items.

Polly Magoo's is a unique and eclectic shop that really is unlike any other on Whyte. If you're the kind of person who likes to make a statement in your own way, this is your place. They have tons of jewelry, clothing, and home decor items, all with an exotic flair. Colourful is an understatement -- your eyes will need to adjust a bit when stepping into this shop. It's like walking through a rainbow!
But the vibrant colours only add more to this shop's thriving charm. The girl on shift was really sweet too, telling me about their "striped' sale, in which anything striped was, well, on sale. They have some really neat jewelry, very funky stuff that would add some spice and kick to any outfit. I thought the woven aluminum couch and loveseat in the middle of the store were sooo cool! Not very comfortable to sit in, I would imagine, but so cool nonetheless.
I also liked all the different kinds of lanterns they had hanging from the ceiling, I always wanted to decorate my bedroom with lanterns. They really have the coolest stuff here that you can use to make your house look like an Eastern temple.
The clothes are towards the back of the shop. I was surprised to see that the dresses cost so little! They're very different, and most of the dressy ones are made with shiny taffeta. They have casual clothing here too of course, but I really liked the fancier dresses. I might have to get one when I go back!
Not everything at Polly Magoo's is affordable, but it also depends on what you buy. Still, even if it is a little more pricey, chances are you'll get lots of compliments on whatever it is, because it's so unique. -

This is such an interesting little shop. The jewelry, the clothing (though a bit odd..), the shoes, decor etc is definently a feast for the eyes. There's always some really great music playing and a fun sale on (usually a "colour" sale..sometimes one where if you dance you get 15% off). They usually have it wrote on the chalk board outside. Because there is so much to choose from, you kind of need a bit of a hawkeye to find what you're looking for...so if you're going in for a bracelet or necklace, well, you have lots (and lots!) to choose from.

It's hard for me to pass by Polly Magoo's without it catching by eye and drawing me in. When it's warm, merchandise is set up outside, making this place look like it's spilling with colour. I love the inside of this shop, because it's so vibrant and has a positive energy.
Some of the clothes and accessories are pricey, but many of them are really affordable. The styles are a mixture of funky, boho, and urban. Whatever you leave here with, you're going to look unique. The selection of purses and shoulder bags is very eclectic. These are often priced very reasonably or are discounted for up to 70%.
I've found some cool t-shirts here, and they were only $22. I've seen some nicer shirts, that are original and funky for about $50--sometimes it makes me wonder why I bother going to Banana Republic, when I can get awesome stuff at an independent store for the same price or cheaper.
The furniture is also really cool, but usually expensive. A lot of it is Asian influenced. I like the Chinese lanterns that glow in all different colours. They look like a mixture of traditional style with modern.
I really wish I lived by Whyte Ave, because I would definitely come here more often to find funky clothes or accessories. -

Polly Magoo's is a good store for home decor. They whole store has a unique vibe to it which matches the items they carry. It will for sure add some personality to your house.
Besides just unique items they also have authentic furniture. The service is great too. They greet you as you walk in and let you know what specials they got going on.
The best word to describe this store is probably exotic. If you want to decorate your home with something that will add some flavor to it, this is the place to go. -

Polly Magoo's is great. I love all of the different things they have from around the world.
This store has a feeling about it that no other store does. It's great.
However, I recently went in to look around and I was greeted at the door by one of the girls working. She told me about their sale and I started to look around. She followed me around the store. Literally.
I started looking at a dress and she decided that she knew a better dress for me so she searched and searched for it and then handed it to me and told me to buy it. HA! Ya right.
Then she followed me around the rest of store like a vulture and it was horrible! What a horrible experience!
I did find some earrings that I loved and that were only $10 (probably one of the cheapest things in the whole store). She race to the cash register to ring them in for me and then told me that they would go so perfectly with the dress she picked out for me. GIVE IT UP ALREADY!
I love this store so much but if I have one more experience like this, I won't be going back.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Review from Paula K.
Polly Magoo's is a very unique store. When I am here, I feel like I have entered into some sort of love-in. Which is cool, because I have always been fascinated with the 60s. A lot of the home furnishings are incredibly original, like beaded curtains, a sofa made out of woven metal, and pillows that would brighten any room. I was tempted by a big knit multi-coloured hat, and I love the selection of shirts and sweaters. There is usually some sort of unique sale going on, based upon an objects shape or size. The last time I as there, you could get fifteen percent off anything that was pointy, and customers were encouraged to plead the pointiness of something to the staff. Polly Magoo's is a lot of colourful fun.

This colourful and exotic shop is full of imported treasures from the East. They've got clothing, jewelry, home and wall decor, and lots of little nick knacks for gifts and accessorizing, or personalizing your space. I had my eye on a king-sized bamboo bed that sits low to the ground, and a silk quilted blanket with tons of colourful silk patches. I also loved the lanterns and light fixtures around the shop. They're a great way to make your room unique and get rid of the boring, generic light covers so many homes have. There's a real hippy quality to this place. If you're into print shirts, big hand-knit sweaters or peace-inspired fashion and decor, you'll love Magoo.

If you want to inject some character into your wardrobe and your home, come to Polly Maggo's.This store is funky, and I mean it in a good way. It is long, narrow, hardly lit and full of unique items. You will feel like a treasure hunter here. Ladies may like the selection of embroidered cotton and linen blowses and flowy skirts which look like authentic Latin-American wear. Men may be enticed by hammocks and hats:) Polly Magoo's sells fantastic pieces of jewellery that look very original at reasonable prices. Here you will also find all sorts of decorative items for your home. Colourful, unique items such as lanterns, blankets, pillows and masks. Everything is bright and celebratory. The furniture which has an Asian feel to it is rather pricey but it may easily become one of the most unique items in you house.
The customer service is great, and if there are any sales going on, you will be notified as soon as you walk in.
