Review from Jen Z.
I've had really great experiences here thus far... so I'm a little confused by some of the other reviews. I've been served by 2 - 3 nail techs at Polished and I like it a lot. In comparison with the other nail spots around downtown Berkeley I consider this place a gem.
They are always very sweet, do a thorough job, and my manicure comes out perfectly. Thanks, Polished! -

While the nail techs here are extremely nice, I was less impressed with their product. I am a long-time French mani shellac-er, and I consider that a good benchmark test of a salon. I have several issues with the French mani that I received at Polished.
The white polish has a wavy texture to it, and the line is not very crisp. The shape of the white section is more rounded and bubbly than I would like (they didn't ask), and the width of the white varies from nail to nail. Most disappointingly, dark flecks have started to show up on the white polish, probably due to irregularities in the finish. On top of this, it took an hour and a half to complete my mani.
Finally, the price was falsely advertised. When I called to book a French shellac mani, they told me the cost would be $21. When I paid, they charged me $27. Apparently they had figured a student discount into my phone quote and had not added on the premium for French.
I would not recommend this salon for a French shellac mani, but I do think one would have decent luck with a colored shellac mani. -

I've lived in Berkeley for 10 years, so I've been through my nail salons in this city. I gotta say, I was so happy when I finally found this one. In fact, since first happening upon this nail salon, I haven't gone anywhere else for manicures & pedicures.

So why do I keep coming back:
1. 5 ladies : Lucy, Lee, Lily, Connie, Tran. They are all SO sweet and so good at what they do. They never skip a step, do their work so meticulously, but also get it done quickly. I'm talking everything from cuticle-cutting to nail-shaping to hot-toweling to painting, they do it all perfectly!
2. Great selection of colors. It's never fun finding a nail salon when you're jonesing for "mani/pedi" just to discover they don't have the color you wanted. This salon keeps its selection current with the latest color trends.
3. Student discounts! This salon is close to campus so it attracts a lot of students, and to keep us coming, they offer their services at a reduced rate.

They also offer waxing - arms, legs, eyebrows, everything. If you're in need of waxing, be sure to try it out here with Lee. She rocks at it!
Also: Shellac! I've never gotten it done, but they do it here and the customers I've seen get it done always leave happy.

Definitely give this place a try. If you come, let them know my review sent you. :) -

This place is so great! The ladies are so friendly and create good rapport, making it a full service experience! My wife and i both got pedicures with the deluxe service which made our feet feel line heaven...it is located in the beautiful Gourmet Ghetto of North Berkeley so you can have a coffee up the street at Philz or Berkeley Expresso...10 stars

This place is a great nail salon! Everyone is so warm and hospitable, and do great nail's sevice. From nails to waxing, they are very professional and the quality of all their services is amazing. The salon is gorgeous and very clean. I love the pedicure spas and the OPI colors on the walls. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Polished nail spa to all of you. They also have special price for student. So, 5 stars for their excellent sevices, quality, cleanliness, and of course their friendliness.

Got a manicure. It was not great - nails and color are uneven and it does not look professionally done. I was also rushed out the door.

PROS
Special accommodations like staying open late & free touch ups.
CONS
I could have done a better job on my cuticles with a butcher knife. In my mouth, blindfolded. -

Okay, I know you all probably think I'm bi-polar now, but I am bumping this place back up to 4-stars because I just had a wonderful experience there after not having been for a while. I got a shellac manicure with Connie, and I'm not sure of the name of the woman who did my pedicure but she's always there and I think probably one of the senior manicurists. They cleaned my nails very well (it had been a while since I had gotten my nails done), and they were just so nice, friendly, and patient that I had to give them their 4th star back. Great experience, and I'll be back there for my next manicure!

I have "Yelp" to thank for helping me discover this sweet gem of a nail salon in Berkeley while I was there (from Atlanta) for a short visit. I hadn't had a mani/pedi in a month and was desperate!. It wasn't pretty.
When I walked into the bright, clean, pleasant salon, Connie welcomed me. By the time I'd chosen my colors, Lee was done with her client and she and Connie proceeded to "work" on my badly-in-need-of-attention hands. The "double whammy!" Ahh, heaven.
For the next hour, they gave me one of the best mani/pedis that I've ever had! Period! Connie and Lee are personable, professional and pay attention to detail. They were successful in ridding my hands and feet of any trace of dead cuticle and rough skin. My nails on feet and hands were meticulously and expertly trimmed/filed. Additionally, my hands, forearms, feet and legs gently massaged and exfoliated. During my "treatment" we all chatted and laughed--I felt at home (which is important for a Southerner)--like old friends!
(Downside? Towards the end of the session there a was a bit of construction going on next door. Those guys started playing music a bit too loudly. Yep, that's it--the only negative that I can think of).
When the mani/pedi was done, I walked out with transformed (thank goodness) pretty feet and hands. My boyfriend has complimented me on my soft, smooth feet at least 3x since then. (Thanks, Connie and Lee for helping me choose the summery blue color for my toes! (Finger) nails are a neutral pink. They must have had 200 OPI nail colors from which to choose-no joke! Thanks, too for a fun experience and even more for a truly expert mani/pedi--I wish I lived there so I could be a regular!
