I live in the Marine Drive residence and, as such, this place is crazy convenient for me, particularly because it's open "relatively" late (10pm). However, I don't come here as often as I might if they weren't so ridiculously overpriced. I mean, I know that they're trying to market themselves as an up-scale, sit-down restaurant and all but... let's be honest here. You're licensed and situated smack-dab in the middle of res. Your clientele is mainly going to consist of (a) students coming in packs for drinks and sports or (b) strung out and probably broke students that have no time to cook. Cater to the latter by not making your prices $15 or more for something not quite so "fancy" and you'd do a lot more business, in my opinion. The service, however, is quite fast and you can get pretty much anything for takeout in 10-15 minutes.

The food itself is quite good when it's good, but those times can be a bit sporadic. My favourite thing to get is the smoked turkey wrap- my first one was a big, delicious bundle of turkey, high-quality cheese and I-forget-what-but-man-was-it-tasty. When I ordered it the other night, however, it was considerably smaller and not quite so lovable.

I've also had the protein wrap, which is pretty good. Worth the $11 or so I'd say, considering. Sort of tastes like something you'd get at the Naam (which is a good thing.) At the time, my friend got some nachos with pulled pork, which I, er... helped myself to. (C'mon, a girl can't live on smoked tofu alone!) The pulled pork was so sparse as to be non-existent, and they didn't layer the cheese! That's like... Nachos 101. They tasted pretty good though.

There is a counter for the standard, take-away AMS sandwiches and treats, as well as a wall'o'beverages. Like all AMS vendors, this stuff is ludicrously priced. (I know that I probably sound like a frugal old woman, but $5.50 for some tuna and mayonnaise on whole wheat bread? Yeah, right.)

As Paul C. said below me, this is "nice, but uninspiring" overall. And definitely overpriced. I'll probably keep coming here if only because I am a captive audience.

Mediocre at best. I live at Marine Drive, and this is the closest eatery, literally steps from my building. Problem is that it's abundantly over-priced. When I first moved in, I had the Savings Plus Plan, which is a meal plan you can pay for monthly through UBC, giving you a 17% discount on meals, including meals at the Point Grill. As such, I managed to try nearly everything on the menu, mostly taken to-go. But eating in at the restaurant once, which wasn't a good idea because they were short-staffed.

Anyhow, I'm sorry to say that this place should be avoided...if possible. If you are coming here for a group gathering, and really must come, go for a burger, which comes with garlic fries or a salad. You really can't go wrong there. But avoid everything else on the menu. It's not worth the time spent waiting for it, let alone all that $$$.

For starters, The Point Grill is a decent attempt to bring something different to the table on the UBC campus. With so much cafeteria and fast food available, sit-down restaurants are definitely a necessity.

With that being said (as with most UBC Food Services locations) the food is nothing spectacular and is quite overpriced for the meal you will receive. The menu is a mix-match of different types of culinary fares that will come out in questionable portions after a lengthy amount of time.

That's the biggest problem with this place: the service is extremely slow. There is no such thing as a quick meal at The Point, not any time that I have been there anyway. It is not uncommon for your appetizer to come at the same time as your meal -- it has happened to me twice.

The food is pretty standard here and it is likely one of your best (but most expensive) options for food on campus. With a bit of work, the place could probably be a decent establishment.

I'm sure I will have a chance to come here several times, so my review may be amended.

A new addition to UBC Food Service, Point Grill is kicking off with a bang.  Their up-scale menu (for UBC Food Service standards) sounds great on paper.  And in fact, it isn't terrible at all.  I think they just need to work out some kinks.

    +Reasonable prices
    +Sells alcohol
    +Fancier food
    +Garlic fries (mmmmm!)
+Coffee and sandwiches to go for students on the go
    +Take away meals

-Smaller, not-so-filling portions.  The turkey wrap was pretty small, and the cobb salad was just shy of a filling meal.  I would rather pay a dollar or two more for fuller portions.
-Roquefort cheese in the cobb salad (this is totally a personal thing. I am just not a fan of Roquefort.  But this was good quality Roquefort)

Upscale grill in a University residence? Sure, ok. It's a better experience than what I'd imagined beforehand.

The staff where friendly and engaging. Decent minimalist decor.

I had a chicken pesto thin crust pizza. The diameter was an inch or two less than I'd hoped for, and the crust was way too crispy. Toppings were nice, but uninspiring.

Embarrassingly, my four companions ordered the same dish. Lucky for them it was delicious. Humongous maple and bourbon glazed chicken breast with gnocchi and a succotash.

The bar is concisely stocked, and the bottle of Bodegas Castano Monastrell Yecla red wine we had with dinner was something else. May not be a drink for everyone though, as it's an extremely peppery flavour.

Desserts were ordered: sticky toffee pudding, passion fruit and kiwi cheesecake, and orange creme brulee. All were very much enjoyed.

Most of the business I saw come through the restaurant that evening was for takeaway meals. They also have a sort of cafeteria-style selection of pre-made food and drinks that can be bought at the bar.

Decent enough place, but a bit out of the way. It must be the furthest restaurant west of Vancouver on the same side of the water. I can't imagine anyone other than students, faculty, staff, and endowment lands residents who can't be bothered to trek into town frequenting the Point Grill. Still, that's a sizable customer base.

Food here is a little too expensive for what you get but I absolutely love their veggie burgers! Best I've had! This is definitely not some place I would travel long distances to eat at but since i live right next to it, the convenience outweighed the price (especially during exam times). Service here is a bit slow and food is just descent, nothing great about the place, just convenient.

This restaurant just opened earlier this year on UBC campus.

It's spacious and can easily host large groups with separate tables.  There's nice LCD Tv's all around the restaurant and it was a nice place to hang out and try different menu items during winter olympics and world cup soccer.

I enjoy their appy items like nachos, sweet potato fries and calamari, was especially great when paired with beer and world cup soccer game at the time.  My favorite entrees are their angel hair pasta with prawns, coconut curry vegetables and the prime rib burger with garlic fries.  The vegan burger and the summer berry salad are also good vegetarian choices.  Note: they are still updating their menu often so please don't be alarmed if my recommended dishes are not available at the time of your visit.

If you are at UBC and would like to go for a casual lunch/dinner or find a nice place for coffee and drinks, this place is worth checking out.

An odd cross between an upscale eatery, a sports bar, and a cafeteria. Decent food (although they can't seem to decide what kind of food they want to serve - so they offer a bit of everything) and very friendly service. Overall a good place to pop to if you are on that end of campus and looking for a bite to eat.
