This place used to be the Richmond Bo Kong (The Main St Bo Kong turned into the Whole Veg).  We hadn't gone here, as we were used to the Main St. restaurant, but finally went twice with an Earthsave (Meatless Meetup) dineout.  The first time we tried less common dishes, the second time the menu was all the most popular ones.  Both times it was very good.  Same extensive menu as before, with large portions, slightly less expensive than at the Whole Veg.  The chefs here are the ones from the old Bo Kong, and their experience shows.  The dishes were all amazing.

Ambiance is average.  The parking on the street is fairly easy.  Service is fast and friendly.  We have returned since the two dineouts and this will likely be our default restaurant.   Unfortunately, the "other place" seems to have deteriorated.

I would highly recommend the spinach tai chi soup, the spicy green beans, sizzling "steak" and quite a few others.  We often order too much with the goal of taking it home.  Definitely try this place out!

I've only tried one thing in this restaurant so this review is for Jai only.

Jai is how you say Vegetarian food in Chinese and I ordered the small take-out Jai combination platter.  It was enough to feed 2 people when eating with rice.  I wasn't sure exactly what is used to make Jai, but there were 3 types in the combo.  One is a more reddish color and is slightly sweeter.  There's a dark brown one that is more chewier and a light brown that is softer and juicier.

Doesn't sound appetizing, eh?  It actually wasn't too bad.  My husband and I finished it in one sitting.

With the chairs being a washed-out turquoise and the food soaked with grease, it can easily be a turn off for some people.

That being said, the food was great and the portions were huge. Two $10 plates could easily serve 3-4, if not more.

I thought this place was going to be super awesome, since a couple people recommended it to me. Vegetarian Chinese food- I was excited for it. Walking in, I had a minor sensory attack. The pukiest green chairs ever.

Ordered a bunch of stuff and it was just alright. I felt a little betrayed by all the fake "meat" in my vegetarian dishes. The way I see it, if I'm not eating meat, I don't want "fake meat" to cheat with. Maybe it's just my complex with eating soy. Ask me about it.

The service was nice. They brought out water in these cute little glass cups that made us feel like we were at grandma's house. I couldn't leave before asking why they had changed their name from Bo Kong to Po Kong.. I mean, you'd think they would get a bit more creative. It sounds exactly the same when you say it out loud. Or was it that Bo was selling his business to his brother Po? Did they want to save money by just whiting out the extra bubble from the 'B' on all their signs? Is it a marketing strategy? The friendly waitress replied in her thick accent, "Everything exact same. But PO is better than BO. PO is better." Well touché, waitress lady, touché.

Anyway, the bill was pricier than I would've liked. I honestly expect Asian food to be fairly cheap. Between the two of us, we dropped 40 something dollars for lunch, only to leave the restaurant and find my car had gotten towed! So basically, it was a $200 lunch. Pay attention to those parking signs!

Absolutely great selection! The food is pretty tasty and the variety of people that come in puts a smile on your face. You don't usually see more causasians at a chinese restuarants than asians.

    Definitely will be returning

I had never really had a full dim sum meal, especially vegan but I tried it with some friends.

I found that everything was really heavy on deep fried buns, deep fried tofu and rice.  There was almost no vegetables at all.  I was pretty disappointed.  I didn't really feel well after. All the food was so heavy.

I don't think I like dim sum if this is how it is. A few of the things were good, there was a rice wrapper dumpling with some veggies in it that was tasty but we only got one each.

The staff were great and the portions were big for our dine out.

A friend brought me here a couple days ago and wow! Definitely impressed. Here's what I had:

Orange Cutlet - Fake chicken cutlets in sweet orange sauce.. soo yum. Incredibly addictive.

Black Bean Bean Curd Rolls - crispy chewy bean curd rolls with vegetables in black bean sauce. (crispy when hot and becomes chewy afterwards.)

Fried Taro and Fried Soy Milk - This one is my fave... Taro wrapped in bean curd, breaded, fried and to be dipped in sweet and sour sauce. Also fried soy milk is like fried icecream except its thickened soymilk inside, and is to be dipped in sugar. Fried soy milk is good but not as good as the taro.

Fried Peppery Konjac - the veggie equivalent of fried peppery squid! Almost identical but with more flavour.

Overall, everything was really good. Service was friendly and helpful too! I would recommend this and will come back next time to try their Dim Sum!

PS after some research, I've heard that this is the reopening of Bo Kong and everything is the same as it was before it closed.

I was pretty excited when I heard that this restaurant may be the reincarnation of Bo Kong. My beloved Bo Kong. The name would certainly suggest this...
And there certainly were enough similarities to think it is at least a very closely related sister, hooray!!
The shitake mushroom dish was as yummy as I always remembered it, and the black bean curd rolls were their usual yummy selves. The noodle dish we got left a lot to be desired, but that in no way is tainting my desire to return to try more. The serving staff were very friendly and kind too, which always makes me forget the less-than-memorable dishes.

Went again yesterday .... big birthday party full of kids and grownups next table made it even more fun. Should mention lots of free local parking but watch the Kingsway signage for parking hours.

I enjoyed the predecessor (Bo Kong) in Richmond for many years. I was really happy to see that they decided to open their doors again in a pretty central location. The owner greeted me on my last visit and remembered my name - yeah I'm a regular. The menu was pretty similar and we ordered:

Health Congee - mainly for someone elderly and needing some simple comfort food  ... quite tasty with strips of tofu and ginger

Bean Curd Rolls with Black Bean - hmm does anyone not order this off the menu? As other reviewers will attest - it's a must have.

Assorted Vegetables Chow Fun - I eat gluten fee so this dish does the trick nicely although I wish there were green vegetables used instead of just bean sprouts and enoki mushrooms.

Chili Eggplant - I would love to figure out how to cook eggplant this way as I would make every day - well at least once a week. Not too spicy, tender but not mushy - fabulous.

I didn't see their incredible Thick Spinach Soup but hopefully they will add that some day if enough of us scream for it.

I think we had a new server on this occasion and she was friendly, helpful and attentive. A warm smile works for me every time.
