I came here on the same day I visited Gene across the street - what a pleasant surprise (no pun intended) compared to Gene.
Whereas at Gene i was met w/ terrible customer service, the lady here was super nice - said hi when i entered, when i told her i didn't want any more coffee cause of the 2 i already had, she pointed out the natural juices she had in the cooler, when i ordered a breakfast burrito she asked if i wanted salsa & brought it to my table (compared to Gene - where, after sitting down, they forgot about me, or did not bother to tell me that my coffee was ready). -

Pleasant Beans is clean and spacious. They have sandwiches, quiches, smalls snacks and soup. The split pea and ham soup was good and prices are average. Of course there's coffee and tea, but I didn't try any.
They have friendly staff who seemed very real and cared about what you had to say. It was indeed "pleasant" sitting in this coffee shop. I had to say it. =) -

Run by a lovely mother/daughter duo, this is a coffee shop with heart! Amazing coffee, home-made treats and always a genuine smile. Relaxed, peaceful, free-wifi, and there are usually a handful of toddlers running around for entertainment.
If you are sensitive to both lactose AND soy (like me), they carry almond milk for your latte!! YUM! -

I like this coffee shop for several reasons - the coffee is good, the baked goods are delicious, but most importantly because the people who work there actually give a shit. They don`t subscribe to the `I`m too cool to talk to you because I am a barista on Main St.`that seems to happen to often. Oh, just figured it out - techically they are on Kingsway - ah well, there you go.

Hard not to notice this spiffy coffee place in a questionable area but growing with potential...
Was driving by and wondered, why would a coffee house call themselves "Pleasant", then it just hit me, Mount Pleasant, lol...anyways, i digress...
Recommend the tuna baguette, with sun dried tomatoes, what a hearty meal!
Like the free Wifi too when I work... -

I have been working in the area lately and don't have enough experience there to have preconceived notions about the trendy Main Street area. I see there is a huge bingo hall coexisting with stores selling free range badger brushes and those dumb plaid mini fedoras, so part of the old mixture is still evident but who knows for how much longer. Just down from the mostly deserted but plucky Kingsgate Mall is this friendly coffee place with lots of accomodations for parents and small children. Emily is adept behind the counter and remembers her customers, including me on my second time there for take out coffee. A table with toys and a selection of kids' snacks is not something I remember seeing in a coffee place. So, side-by-side with a coffee menu offering such things as almond milk and decaffeinated cappuccino is a selection of wine, beer, nachos and bags of Doritos, muffins straight from the oven, soup and chili, a lone bottle of Vodka on a shelf, and nice looking sandwiches.
Their practice of putting muffins and cookies out on the counter still in their baking pans is a wise one! -

Pleasant Beans is a pleasant coffee shop in Mount Pleasant. (hee hee... I really wanted to write that. Just give me this one, mmkay?)
Now that I've gotten THAT out of the way:
I visited Pleasant Beans for the first time when I showed up a bit too early for my hair appointment across the street. The word on the street (aka: Yelp) was that there was a new coffee shop in town, so I decided to pop in for a sandwich and a chai. Let me say now that I was very impressed by the whole experience.
First of all, the cafe is quite large, with comfy armchairs and large tables to host your massive entourage. They've got free wifi and a ton of space, which makes it a great place to come to write or just kill time. The staff are super friendly, and not in the least bit pretentious, which is a welcome change in the coffee shop scene. The food is all very fresh, and my chai was absolutely delicious. Being a bit of a chai snob, that's saying something.
I'll definitely be coming back to Pleasant Beans in the future. With great service, a great atmosphere, and great drinks, what else could you want?Listed in: The Main Attraction, Writers' Dens

I found some 'pleasant beans' today in a home made, delicious, vegetarian and gluten free chili!
Right across the street from the burrito place and Gene, you'll find this owner operated, family friendly cafe that seems to be perfectly located. Adjoined with the community center and library which is accessible from the inside hallway.
Comfy seating, relaxed atmosphere and peaceful inside with a few chairs outside for Vancouver's elusive good weather. Home baked goods, sandwiches and JJ Bean coffee are served and almond milk is available (for an extra 50c.) -

A new coffee shop in Mount Pleasant, woo hoo! I walked in from the rain, and was greeted with an immediate smiley hello. Good so far! On a large baking tray, I could see cookies about to go in the oven. Choc chip you say? Yup, sold purely on seeing cookie dough, I'm that easy ;) I was also asked how many shots of espresso I'd like in my latte; always nice to have a choice.
Big open layout in here. It's a bit more of a communal cafe, with long wooden benches, which when busy, are shared with strangers. I had no problem with that, though was desperately trying not to help the guy next to me with his sudoku. The latte was nice and creamy, and the cookie was super nice, straight out of the oven.
Nice new alternative to Gene and Our Town - definitely not as pretentious ;) -

I work in this neighborhood plus spend a fair bit of time at the Fedex depot nearby, the ballet school and other stops. I can't stand the pretentious too-cool-for-school "Gene" across the street. So pleased to find this new spot. The prices are reasonable, service friendly, food is great and the mother/daughter ownership is too cute. What nice people! Congrats.

I come here almost every day. Great location, staff is always very friendly and they remember you and your preferences. Also, seriously some of the best muffins I have ever had hands down.
