At first when you walk in, it's exactly like every other bowling lane you've ever been to. We had a reservation, though, for a birthday party and were told that our lanes were "behind the curtain." I hadn't even noticed the curtain at first, but then I saw some other people peeking behind it. Anything that's cordoned off seems exciting and exclusive, and Playtime Bowl didn't disappoint.
On the other side of that curtain is what can only be described as high-class bowling (I realize this sounds like an oxymoron). The seating areas have all been redesigned so you are in more of a living room setup, with couches and low tables. There's lots of space to hang your jacket near your lane and there's a bar back there, too. Our party had arranged for some snacks and unlimited soft drinks, and the staff were all really friendly and accomodating. They had the whole black light thing going with music videos playing on big screens and sports on the televisions overhead.
The only thing I thought was a bit weird was that there were some dark-suit wearing bouncers working, with earpieces and everything. I wasn't totally sure what their purpose was -- were we supposed to feel like we were in a club? Do patrons normally get really unruly? They were all really friendly, too, just odd. -

Etobicoke, ON
The plans for my friend's bday got canned and we needed a change of venue quick. So off we went to Playtime Bowl.
Compared to my local bowling alley in Etobicoke, this place is much better maintained. The bowling balls don't have any dents, and the place has a full bar and snack bar, with awesome pizza.
Prices are pretty steep when there's no special going on, but I've come to expect that from bowling alleys nowadays. -

I can see how playtime is the number one spot to go to for functions involving a party. Be it for birthday parties or work functions or even a little fundraising. I top of place and the environment is great, up to date music, the people serving u we great.
Only thing that bothered me and I'm bias as I'm a bowler for quite a number of years. The approach to the lanes were a bit sticking and could so a clean. But other than that the conditions were acceptable -

Alright. Came here for a work function.
Had a good time.. the lanes are well taken care of. I think we did the disco bowling thing too, with glow in the dark, but they were playing rap music. -

A great place for bowling! We rolled in around 12am on a Saturday night and had no problem securing two lanes beside each other.
The pricing is as follows:
Shoe Rental $3.81
Regular Cosmic Time Friday-Sunday, 9pm - 12am: $32.99/hour/lane
Things of note:
- There are indeed security guards in bulletproof vests walking around the place.
- You have to go to the bar to get a beer ($5.10 for domestic bottles)
- Your screen goes red when time is running out.
The place was clean, smelled like french fries and was altogether a really awesome place to hang out. Too bad it's not too accessible by public transit! -

Came here for a field trip this morning (01.28.11).
What can I say? It's a generic bowling alley with many, many lanes that plays country music hits. I might add that it's quite clean ... in fact, I wouldn't hesitate to buy food here because it's so clean. I found the staff to be very accommodating for the 50 or so noisy (extremely !) high school students.
If you express interest in coming here, I'm not going to hide your car keys to stop you from being a part of the patronage, but I'm also not dreaming about Playtime Bowl this instant.
It's a-ok ! -

This is our favorite bowling alley because nothing beats their special offer:
Sunday - Thursday : 9PM - Midnight
Bottomless Bowling : $8.00 /person plus $1.00 Shoe Rental
You can't get wrong with that.
The place is reasonably clean (- there was some clutter in the corner where the lockers are last time we went) and the staff friendly enough.
They let you bring in your own snack and drinks which is a big plus for us since our group always includes our toddler as well.
So thumbs up for being family friendly. -

A rave party light show and a game of bowling? Pretty amazing. I can't say I bowl a whole lot, but I found nothing strange or wrong with Playtime Bowl. The shoes were as clean as they could be (I try not to think about it), the seating was spacious, the food was bowling alley terrible, the beer was cold and I got two strikes in a row. A pretty good way to spend a few hours!

WOOHOO!! Bowling is one of those famed past times that you don't really do on a regular basis, but when you do get around to playing it is ALWAYS a fun time!
Play Time Bowl brings fun to a whole new level with cosmic bowling and a bar! ie) you can have drink and bowl at the same time!
During the day on weekdays you pay less than 5$ per game and you have the choice of both cosmic (glow in the dark) or regular bowling! I've been to Play Time a few times and swear by the fun of cosmic bowling; although it is ALWAYS packed if you go during the weekends. So, try during the week if you can, or settle for regular pins and lanes.
Keep in mind that Play Time is kind of hidden in the discount/warehouse clothing store industrial area across from Yorkdale Mall. Some people call this area Orfus for Orfus Road, the main strip of the discount stores. It's the same area that has indoor go-karting and volleyball leagues; so lot's of fun to be had!
The idea of glow in the dark bowling is surely appealing, but don't be disappointed by the dingy bar. It is a true raunch bar, with dark, dark, dark lighting, bottles that look like they've been there for over 30 years and a bartender that is more sauced than anyone else. But, it's still a lot of fun and if you're there until the wee hours of the night, the barkeep usually gives you a couple of drinks on the house!
Last word of advice; eat before you go. The food is limited and equally unappetizing. Go for the bowling and the cheap drinks!
