Can a place be both rustic and modern? I really liked the look of this place - a lot more character than their Vancouver counterpart.
Located in Creekside, we came here for their 4-course $35 set menu and pleasantly surprised to learn that it also included a glass of wine or a beer! I went with the Reisling (from BC) and it was totally drinkable.
Great value overall, first course choice was between a smoked duck vermicelli salad or a tomato soup. The second course choice was short rib sliders or tomato bruschetta. The short ribs were a little on the dry side and was more of a brisket, but when paired with the yummy aioli it makes a world of difference.
As for the steak entree, I was fully expecting a mediocre slab of meat. It wasn't. The AAA steak was tender, cooked to my rare liking and held up well for leftovers later that night.
The dessert was more of a palate cleanser - a small scoop of lemon sorbet served in the same ramekin that the aioli came in. We were stuffed anyways by this point so the portion was a non-issue.
Service was pleasant and efficient - we gladly tipped over the 18% included gratuity for our party of 7. -

A friend of mine had a $100 gift certificate for Players and he was nice enough to treat me to a late lunch/early dinner - something a college student getting by on Ramen noodles at a mega-resort could only dream of. I hadn't eaten in 22 hours (on purpose) because I was so excited to indulge myself to excess. So you can imagine that a 21 year old starving skier would be easy to impress... oh how i was disappointed. Also keep in mind that I am NOT a food snob. And also keep in mind that I ate here on a Monday afternoon, the cooking staff may not have been on par with the weekend crew.
We started off with 2 Sleeman Ales for $3.75 each (better than nearby Dusty's) and were delighted with a friendly server who gave no thought to 2 underdressed kids racking up a $100 tab. She was friendly but not obnoxious and the service was always speedy.
First off was the Lobster and Crab Fritters. It could have had a much more exciting flavor at $10 for 2 small helpings; at times I thought I was eating a fried pastry... good but nothing to rave about.
Next we split the Prime Rib Pizza. This was by far the best part of the meal-not a good sign for a chophouse. I'd say that the crust, cheese and prime rib were all cooked well but the pizza would have been helped immensely with some decent vegetables to along with it. Once again, it was FINE but this pizza will soon escape my memory. So we'll call it forgettable.
Then we ordered the Halibut. At $28 a plate I was expecting heaven. The fish was also cooked well but it didn't come out hot and the garnishes were terribly tasteless. Not to mention the fact that the cut of fish was significantly smaller than the palm of my hand and the plate was absent of any substantial side to salvage the experience.
Finally, we got our last dish - some $15 pork belly with white bean puree and homemade chips. Once again the helpings of each were simply too small - 4 cubed pieces of pork, less than 10 small chips and a thin layer of bean puree. Again, nothing stood out except for the pork belly, which was TERRIBLE. Salty and charred, I was shocked that such a thing could come from such an expensive kitchen.
All that being said, my friend and I ate every last bite due to our need to rack up a $100 tab and the starvation we were stricken with. I'd give this place 1 star because our meal was worth less than $20, but I liked the server, the atmosphere and the happy hour was reasonable.
If you're looking for a place to eat in Whistler, try the Rim Rock Cafe down the street ($$$$$) or look for the crepe place or pasta bar in the Village Marketplace near 7-11 and IGA. While you'll still be paying a pretty penny, your chances of leaving satisfied are much much higher. -

A group of us were on a corporate retreat. They wanted me to make the restaurant choice. First bad sign: I didn't read the previous reviews.
Players Chophouse. Sounds classy, right? Not so much.
I know it's Whistler, I know.
The 'charcuterie' plate was lame. 4 tiny grossly sweet pickles with a dollop of mustard.. ONE cracker with olive tapenade (which was disgustingly salty for olives) and a few pieces of meat & smoked duck. If you're going to serve meat, serve it with more bread or crackers or whatever toasty thing you can to serve it with.
The caesar salad was okay, but the dressing didn't have any taste of anchovies, it felt like pure mayo. Blah!
My other colleagues had the 4 course menu. They didn't have a lot to complain about, except the dessert at the end was a mango sorbet which looked like it was served in something you do mise en place in, lame.
The worst complaint of all is the service. One of the 'servers' hadn't brushed her hair. She looked really unkept and the other servers were nice but SLOW. Why would you tell me you're going to serve my other plate with everyone's 3rd course? Doesn't make any sense.
Overall they seem inexperienced and I can make better food at home. I may sound harsh, but when I go out and when I'm going to pay money to eat I have certain expectations and this place ... sucked. -

Good vibe, nice mellow music, sat at the bar, the chap was very warm and helpful, he ask the chef about my food order request & was happy to accomadate.
The bar is akward to sit at the ledge is short to sit at. Anyways I ordered 8oz fillet steak, salad and fries and was very good, the peppercorn sauce has the worst . They do know how to serve a fine steak. -

My friends and I went when we visited Whistler over the weekend (I had a gift certificate from Groupon or Living Social, one of those sites) and it was... okay.
My friends chose the 3 for $30 menu and I had the petite prime rib with a side of truffle mac and cheese. They had basically the same thing, the grilled calamari, the strip loin and one had the cookie and the other had the ice cream sundae.
The calamari was tasteless. Absolutely tasteless. I tried a little bite of it plus the olives my friend fished out (the whole whopping half) and even that had no flavour. There was only one point where my friend even tasted a little saltiness and we believe it's when she bit in to the one caper in the blah tomato filling. Disappointing.
Their steaks was delicious and so was my prime rib (even tasty the next day!) even though the presentation was slightly odd. I've never had my prime rib draped over vegetables. It made for a lumpy look and I had to move the meat to the flat of the plate in order to cut it.
The saving grace for this meal? Their truffle mac and cheese. Oh my god. Delicious. Next time I go, I think I'll have the mac and cheese with a salad. (Warning: it is quite rich. A salad might be a good choice but I'm not the boss of you.)
All in all, the food was pretty good, other than the tasteless grilled calamari but overpriced. If you're looking for prime rib, wait for a Sunday and go to Wild Wood instead. -

On Christmas day, there wasn't much to choose from in the Village for dinner. We wanted to eat greek but it was closed. It was freaking cold out and we didn't want to walk through the village so we decided to drive out to Creekside to see if anything was open over there. Whadya know, this chophouse was open. I was excited thinking it was something like the chophouse in Big Sky. Yah, it isn't. This is a steakhouse. Luckily they had a "Christmas day special" of Turkey and all the fixins, since I only eat chicken and their only chicken dish was chicken on the bone (which I won't do). Excitedly I ordered the turkey, no cranberry sauce. When asked what kind of veges the dish came with, I was told beets, carrots and cabbage. I asked for cabbage only. When my meal came to me, I had everything but cabbage and was barely hot. I had 3 small slices of turkey and the top slice was overcooked. There was hardly any gravy on the dish and none on the mashed potatoes. I asked for more and was (finally) brought the tiniest little cup of gravy you could imagine, just enough to cover the other 2 slices of meat. You know, I'm from Texas, I'm used to big portions but this was just ridiculous. C'mon, really, I was asking for more gravy, not turkey!?!? So then I waited for quite a while longer and finally got my cabbage. It was a large portion of cabbage and it was seasoned well. Definitely the best thing I had this evening. My hubby had the filet mignon and he liked it.
We were disappointed in the dessert choices. Mostly because the creme brulee was pumpkin flavored. We got the Bar One cake. Yah, pass on it. Really not that good. The best part was this tiny (served in the same little cup my gravy came in) little scoop of vanilla ice cream. (I don't even like vanilla ice cream) I LOVE chocolate, pralines and carmel (as the dessert was described to us) but it tasted nothing like carmel or pralines. If we leave dessert behind on our plate when we leave, you know something's wrong, I'll eat a donut from a grocery store for crying out loud!
Anyway, this place is a definate PASS in Whistler. Much better food to be had elsewhere. -

Just ate there after their deal on Living Social. We were there on a Wednesday so they also had a $30 3 course ($38 if you wanted steak) meal. All of our dishes were very good, the service was good, and with the Wednesday special it was quite reasonable for a steak place. Would definitely eat there again if we lived in Whistler.

Slow, slovenly servers that obviously know nothing about the food they're serving. We had a couple simple questions about the menu, and they were totally clueless. The mesclun salad seemed like someone had gone to the grocery store, gotten some wilted greens and some salad dressing, and put it all on a plate. I think I saw one tiny piece of goat cheese hiding in there. My husband's steak was definitely closer to charred than medium-rare, and very tough. The sorbet dessert seemed pretty much like you would get from Mario's gelati. I could have put most of this meal together at the grocery store for a fraction of the price, and avoided the slow, clueless service.
