Play De Record is a big old record store on Yonge Street. They have all the new stuff in several genres and rare, hard to find CDs and vinyl, but it's the electronic music selection that mostly brings people here. They also ssell music electronics and DJ software. They also carry some clothing by local designers to round out the music themed stuff. The owner, Nav Sangha is a hot local DJ (Nasty Nav), and the owner of super trendy West end dace club, Wrongbar to boot.

I first went here in 1997 after SOURCE magazine did a feature on Toronto and listed Play De Record as one of the record hot spots. As I remember the prices were fair and the digging was excellent!

I hopefully will make my way back from LA to Toronto and pick this place dry knowing that I drove thousands of miles because I LOVE VINYL!

Pretty legendary record store right here... I have to say I personally don't shop here very much because I am never in the area, and it gets so packed and hectic in there that I can't handle it. They have since bought up the convenience store that used to be in the front so now Play De owns the whole section, though the front is now dedicated to a check-out counter, books, etc.

They have a ton of records. And this is where all the famous people come to record shop when they're in town. My beef is that everything is basically a mess. Records are being pulled out and thrown around and when you dig in a section it's usually crammed so tight you can't even flip. Still, that's part of the appeal. Makes digging an exercise.

This place is great for music lovers.  The main attraction for me, and most, is the extensive vinyl collection, even though they have DJ equipment and a great offering of CDs (mostly a lot or rare mix tape stuff).
They really do not slack here.  They have exclusives, especially with a lot of Stones Throw releases, and you can find some rare ones in this place.
I even found the Thom Yorke Eraser Remixes on vinyl by pure chance one day.
They have turn tables set up so you can put on some records and give them listen.  I have found some rare stuff this way and it's a nice feeling of trust that they give you with the merch.  They assume that you know what you are doing if you are coming into their store.
Some of my favorite vinyl records that I got in this place?  J Dilla's "Donuts" and Burial's "Untrue".  I even bought a box of 30 vinyl records for $6.99 one day.  Found a Sneaker Pimps single in there, so this place is defiantly worth a peek.   You never know what you may find.
