Love it here so much, but my wallet hates me after it. I get the little treat things yogurt, mushrooms food that isn't 20.00$ for a small box. Ya know. It smells so earthy in there and you feel apart of this small elite group of earthlings while your strolling. Take your time though there's stuff everywhere! Up on, underneath, behind, sideways, the shelves are packed with stuff. The chocolate milk is awesome and there's a coffee maker and water thing in the back by the dairy. The staff here are all beautiful and have the organic glow, they also know I don't know EVERYTHING about there product. Ask away. Buddha truffle chocolates by the till make me feel at peace after my shopping trip.

The Edmonton downtown Planet Organic is a smaller version of the Planet Organic located south of the North Saskatchewan River, meaning that it carries a limited supply of goods and products. But don't think that means its shelves are sparse and bare - quite the contrary! The space at this Planet Organic is used economically, and every square inch of floor and wall space is utilized to the max! This means that the aisles can be quite narrow to walk down, but I think this makes Edmonton's downtown Planet Organic feel like your community grocery store. Prices are bit high for packaged or specialty products, and for meats and dairy, so when I do pop in to shop for groceries, I try to just buy products in their "natural packaging", as in strictly produce. Lot parking is available for customers. A small charge is added to the bill should customers choose to pack their groceries in a paper bag, which is why I choose to bring my own bag. The staff seems always eager to help, though sometimes I feel they may come on a bit strong, or delay my errand to pick up a few bananas or tomatoes. Nonetheless, for downtown residents, Planet Organic is situated in a handy location, and makes it really convenient to pick up healthy foods that you may have otherwise forgotten to pick up on your regular shopping trip to the big box grocery store.

I love that I can always count on Planet Organic for all my organic and health food needs that I can't find elsewhere. This location is smaller than the one in Old Strathcona, but just as good. The staff always greet you with a hello and a smile, and are quick to help when you need it.
Great selection of fresh breads, and if you're a fan of the Burt's Bees line, they've got the whole collection here. Also available here is the famous tea called "Holy Crap" as featured on the show Dragon's Den, in case you're interested :)
My all-time favorite item though, no matter which location, is their chocolate cake (in the fresh baked goods/deli section). I believe it's vegan as well, but don't quote me on that ... I just know that they bake it themselves in store and that I can eat it all day because it's so wickedly delicious! -

I have a love/hate relationship with the Planet Organic, especially with the downtown location. This used to be the Big Fresh, until the Planet took over, so I am sad about that.
The Planet sells mostly organic food items, but they also have a vitamin and supplement section, along with many personal care items. They are all about sustainability, health, and the environment. This location is smaller than the South location, so ready-made foods and baked items are transferred over, but there is still a fairly good selection.
The ready-made foods are a favourite of mine. The vegan chocolate cake is so very moist. The samosas are awesome, but they have increased in price considerably. They used to be about $7 for six, but now they are $10 for the same amount! The hummus is quite good as well, and there are many different varieties, like sun-dried tomato and spinach.
I like that they have a fairly good selection of gluten-free items, like waffles, flours, cereals, and sauces, but this location does not have any good gluten-free crackers, which should be a staple item.
The prices are really expensive--so expensive that it pisses me off. Since the Planet is the only organic market left in the city, they can charge whatever they want, so I am somewhat resentful towards them. I will admit though that the Planet's sales have improved, and when something is on sale, it's a good price. The only problem is the good stuff sells out within the first few days or first week, and that is frustrating.
The produce doesn't always look the best, but sometimes they have some nice stuff, but it's also very pricey. There's some really good organic cheeses and yogurts here, and if you're lactose intolerant, I recommend the rice cheese they sell.
Be aware, the Planet sells some items that are not organic, so if this really matters to you, read the label carefully. It will usually be an item that is suspiciously cheaper, like the chocolate covered cranberries--still great tasting though! -

I think as organic markets go, this one is just okay.
I really like the "health and beauty" area here because you can find things you can't find at other grocery stores but as far as the food goes... I just don't eat enough organic food for it to be worth it to come here. The small organic or health food area at Sobeys is enough for me.
I guess it would be a pretty cool place to shop if you ate only organic food here, but one of the other reviews on Yelp for this place, even said that some of the stuff isn't organic. This seems really backward to me!
I also think it is very overpriced, but again, I think that is organic food in general, and may not be specific to Planet Organic. -

I prefer the Planet Organic on the North Side. Its small and friendly. Lots of organic, local and responsible food. The staff is really helpful and nice. I buy virtually everything there, and I gotta agree with "Jeanette B." on the G's Hummus. Really great.
Overall it can be expensive, but I think that the undervaluing of food is one of the big problems that leads to over consumption and environmental problems. Plus they have lots of vegetarian stuff, and are willing to hear about your opinions and recommendations for new products. -

I love this store. I can't afford to do all my grocery shopping there but I still I love it. I go at least once a month to stock up on castille soap, coconut oil and vegetable glycerin. The staff is amazing--always willing to help and hand out samples :) They are very knowledgeable so don't be afraid to ask questions.

Very nice selection of salads and prepared meals, they also make a terrific veggie wrap with a selection of six legumes, cheese, cucumber and a great dressing. The store is clean and organized as best as it can for such a small retail sq. ft.
Staff at the check-out are sweet and helpful; staff in the veggie/fruit section are as useful as the mould growing on two week old bread. -

I've been shopping at The Big Fresh for years now. Now it's actually Planet Organic. It once felt good to shop locally and support small business. Now, I'm supporting the lifestyle philosophy and the glory of market capitalism. The truth is, the shop now has more selection, and the staff are just as friendly and helpful as they always were; so not all big business is bad. If anything, it's a good sign that the healthy eating movement is gaining momentum. And the original owners must have been compensated quite well for the business and loyal clientele they built up over the years. The transition was seamless, except that now you can pop in and get any number of wonderful tasty meals for lunch - pret-a-porter! I love the kale salad, edamame beans, power cookies and ... OMG the carrot cake is to die for. I have no idea if it's healthy or not. It's sold at an organic store and that's good enough for me. I can't swallow it down fast enough. It no longer goes by the name The Big Fresh, but Planet Organic. But in my heart it will always be the little shop that could.
