Best. Pizza. E V E R. Yes.
My husband is so picky with food but really enjoyed their tricolore salad (still talks about it in fact..)
There is usually a wait, but it is sooo worth it. -

You MUST try their lightly battered, fried fava beans! They're amazing. And they're seasonal, so if you show up and they have them, order two.
The pizza here is good: it's that crunchy, thin-crust variety that all the cool kids are eating these days. Any of the saussage/meat toppings are delicious. Other than that, it's nothing terribly special. The service is fast and friendly, the restaurant is loud, and there are a lot of hipsters. Last time I was there, I paid about $55 for lunch for two. It's a bit much for me, but I would still go there again. -

I absolutely love Delfina (both locations) and the food is definitely 5 stars in my book. I always crave their margherita pizza and ensalata tricolore! The margherita is amazingly fresh and I love the simplicity of their milky mozzarella atop the homemade tomato sauce. The ensalata tricolore is radicchio, endive, and arugula topped with a simple lemon dressing and parmigiana reggiano. My friends didn't enjoy the ensalata tricolore as much as I did but I personally loved the bitterness of endive mixed with the nuttiness of arugula.
The only reason I took a star off is because of the service we received during our recent visit. We ordered the margherita, the ensalata, and meatballs. Usually the meatballs are one of the first things to come out but by the time we finished our pizza and salad, our meatballs still hadn't arrived. I asked our server to check on it and she said they usually take a long time (lies) and were being cooked. 15 minutes later, she came back to say the chefs had forgotten to make them and the meatballs just entered the oven. So she pretty much completely lied to us the first time she "checked". 5 minutes later, meatballs were finally on the table. Mind you, we'd already finished eating the rest of our meal. We also didn't receive a comp or anything for the inconvenience. =/ -

I love being wrong. My previous review was proven wrong tonight. The lines here aren't *that* bad. And you can drink on the street. I ordered take out and they deep fry anything off the Fritti menu to go when you arrive... and, they deep fried the world's best mozzarella stick for me. They call it Mozzarella de Corrozza. Not just the best mozzarella stick (who knew there was a list?), but it was the best fried food I've had in my life. Two come in the $7 order, and one is enough for one person... two is perfect.

Review from Oliver J.
It was good, although it didn't impress. I belong to pizza club in Washington DC and have spent three adult years living in New York. I know pizza. We ordered two pizzas, a salad, and the blood orange soda. Pizzas were the Napoletana and the Broccoli Raab. The Napoletana was a little boring... no cheese does that sometimes.. I guess not enough ingredients. The Broc Raab was great with copious amounts of broccoli on it. It wasn't over salted, which is often a mistake made in Neapolitan pizzerias. The blood orange soda was good too, although not as much of a fancy concoction as I might have anticipated from the establishment.

I was craving pizza for a while, and although I went to Mozzeria the week before, the pizza i had there didn't seem like real pizza to me without cheese. I've been wanting to try Pizzeria Delfina for a while but never had the chance. Came here on a Saturday with a friend and was told the wait was going to be an hour. I just paid for parking too! So walked around the neighborhood but wasn't in the mood to try any other place. Came back and decided to order a pizza to go and eat in the car.
I originally wanted to order the pigs ears but they were sold out. The lady suggested I order the fries with eyes. For some reason when she was explaining what they were, I kind of zoned out. I assumed it came with fries but I was wrong. It was just deep fried fish. It reminded me of deep fried fish you could find in chinese restaurants in hong kong during dim sum but with aioli sauce. I loved it but the portions were a little small and it was pricey. I also ordered the 4 formaggi pizza which was a little salty. I ended up not eating the crust because this was the chewiest pizza I've ever had. My friend and I both skipped out on eating the crusts because our jaws started hurting from just eating the pizza.
The place was a little pricey and the food was not worth the hour wait. Luckily I ordered togo and waited 15 minutes. The workers were very friendly and the menu is pretty diverse for a pizzeria. Might come back and order the pigs ears to go next time but don't think I'll be coming back for the pizza. -

My husband and I had a perfectly acceptable dinner last night at Pizzeria Delfina, at least until it came time to order dessert. As they had vanilla ice cream on the dessert menu ($4 per scoop), I asked if they would mind bringing it to me with a drizzle of olive oil and sprinkle of sea salt on top. Our server went to check, then came back to the table and said, "Sorry, the kitchen won't let me do that. We like to be different here, and they think the ice cream/olive oil/salt thing is overplayed." Um, seriously? Just give me the freakin' ice cream/olive oil/sea salt combo - it's not like I asked for something difficult or elaborate! I hate pretentious restaurants. There are plenty of other excellent artisan pizzerias in SF that won't give me this type of attitude.
Also, we prefer the pizza at Delarosa and Zero Zero. The crust on the pizza at Delfina had no chew to it - it was really brittle.

Checking off the SF7x7 magazine 100 things to try before you die 2012 list. Still a ways to go on the list, but we checked off the Margherita pizza last night by eating here.
We arrived around 5:30 p.m. and already the place was 98% occupied. Within the hour folks had to sign up on the blackboard wait list to your left as you enter the premises.
Ordered two draft Italian beers to go with our two thin crust pizzas -
*Margherita - came to the table piping hot. The first slice was very crusty, but the sauce caused the crust on remaining pieces to become somewhat soggy as I continued eating. Also starting to coagulate because they keep the front door open due to so many folks coming in and out. But as far as Margherita pizzas go, this one was very good.
*Salsiccia - nice combo of spicy sausage to cheese ratio. Great with the beer.
We enjoyed both pizzas and had three leftover slices to take home.
Quick informal service. Somewhat noisy and very busy pace. A few outdoor tables with overhead heating lamps. We were in and out within an hour.
Tab including tax & tip $51.00. -
Review from Nancy S.
Waited an hour, ready to order. Ordered 3 pizzas - Margarita, Salsiccia, and the special of the day (Prosciutto and Artichoke), with a side order of their meatballs.
Meatballs were soft and tasty, but a bit too salty for me, not sure if I'll ever order it again. All the pizzas came hot crispy hot and Margarita was my favorite! The mozzarella cheese tasted so fresh and definitely was one of the best part of the pizza. I requested for more basils, but they forgot to put it on the pizza, so they gave us a side of some fresh basils, which I thought was better since I think it taste better with some fresh herbs.
Salsiccia was tasty, but the third pizza was super bland and no one at the table wanted a second slice.
Service was great and servers were attentive. Got a complimentary dessert for our friend's birthday, which was exactly what we needed to end the night. Can't wait to be back, except for the hour wait, but well worth it! -

I'm torn between a three and four star rating...and yes I would go back. My reason for going back was that the service and food was good. I was a cool atmosphere and I had a window seat....However, I'd like to have one more type of pizza before I go crazy and fall in love with the place....COME ON, YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN!!! JUST NEED ONE MORE PIECE!....ok, i'm going back because the piece that I got was good....COME ON, YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN....
Bottom-line - Good pizza, good service, hip place, around a good neighborhood. -

This remains to be my favorite restaurant in SF. Great food, drinks, service, atmosphere, and specials.
Heat lamps outside make this a doggie friendly place to eat even on a cold day.
Excellent Arnold Palmer as well.

San Francisco, CA
We (my husband and I) came here a couple weeks ago on our quest to try 52 new places in 52 weeks.
Honestly- I'm going to give this five stars because I can't think of anything to ding this place on.
After seeing a movie at the Kabuki theatre we walked up Fillmore and came here, maybe around 9pm on a Friday. We didn't wait at all as we chose to sit at the bar. We each got a glass of red wine and shared a pizza. The wine was rather inexpensive, but really good! You could tell the pizza had all fresh ingredients. The waitstaff was great and come to think of it, really nice. -

This pizza is absolute perfection. Tried the margherita and the broccoli raab. Both are great - but nothing can beat the classic margherita. Also tried the fried risotta. And for after the meal, had a latte.
SO SO SO GOOD. Definitely the best pizza in the Bay Area and honestly, maybe even NYC...it's that good.
Also, great service. Very personable. Restaurant has an overall great vibe and fantastic decor.
Currently my fav place in SF. -

San Francisco, CA
Wait - 1 hr for a party of 4. Smaller parties got seated a lot faster.
Vibe - Hipster crew with a splash of family friendliness. The music was awesome but cranked a little too high to have decent conversation with your party.
Food - Margherita pizza is the best! Fresh globs of mozzarella, amazing sauce, and a crust that was so delightfully thin and chewy and crispy at the same time that I ate all my crusts. ALL! Salsiccia is your typical sausage/bell pepper/onion/mozzarella pizza, but the fennel sausage really makes the pizza outstanding. Tried the Capricciosa which is not on their regular menu. It had prosciutto and artichoke on a bed of cream sauce, but it was a little lacking in flavor and pizzazz. The meatballs are rich and flavorful, but on the salty side. The buttery bread that came with it was absolutely divine!
Staff - Awesome! They have the greatest personalities that are a perfect match for such a high volume and limited space restaurant like this. They even brought me gelato for my birthday (tahitian vanilla bean with pistachio praline, chunks of cherries, and the TCHO chocolate sauce. SO GOOD. I tried to contain myself from licking the bowl, but ended up spooning the chocolate sauce directly into my mouth anyway).
Will come back again for my Margherita fix! -
Review from Chi N.
I am not a pizza lover but this place got me eating slices 2 nights in a row so that must say something about the quality of their pies. It's quite pricey at close to $20 for an average sized pizza. I love the Salsiccia, which is comparable to a combination pizza you would get at other places. The fennel sausage is yummy. I love the dried oregano they give you with your order. It gives your pizza that extra pizzazz. This place is tiny and it gets super packed so my suggestion is take it to go.

On my first visit, super hungry, me and 2 other guys ordered 3 pies, a bottle of wine, an appetizer.
A place like this, doesn't disappoint for a number of reason. Just to let you know, most of these reviews you're reading are like 'my first impressions', 'first visits,' and if you liked what you ate. Yay. If you didn't like it, you trash the place like as if they dunno how to run a business or make the damn pizza.
This place in some ways, reminded me of some of the pizza joints I ate way back as a child growing up in the east coast. Pizza's back there - they got character. Some will hate that it's not made in this way or that way. Too much salt. Too much this. Too much that.
Delfina got a character of its own. It's very new yorkish in some ways (to me, not you okay? shut up for a second), and the taste kinda has that certain inspiration behind it.
You won't be dissappointed. Don't compare with other individual pizza joints because, some of these reviews are kinda so stupid to read.
Come here on a day when you really feel like you want pizza. If you come in because the line was too busy at a Thai restaurant you originally planned to go to, you're gonna feel mediocre about this place or any other pizza joints.
5 stars, because I wanted italian food. Narrowed down to pizza. Delfina delivered. -
Review from Christina W.
San Francisco, CA
Who would of thought cracking an egg on top of a pizza can be so good. And for a girl who loves topping more than crust, Delfina has the pizza I love. I came here with a group and we each ordered our own pizza, that way we can share because sharing.... is caring..... The wait for a table can be dreadful but you're always welcome to order a drink and sip on it while you wait.
What we ordered:
Mussels and Clams - Love the broth and goes well with the bread. Fresh mussels and clams.
Calamari- Small portion and once again, (I see the theme of this restaurant) Excellent SAUCE.
Salsiccia- (housemade fennel sausage, tomato, bell peppers, onions, mozzarella)- Careful when you take your first bite, it will burn the top of your mouth. I think what I love about delfina's pizza is everything is really saucy!
Clam Pie (cherrystones, tomato, oregano, hot peppers) - Seafood Linguine on a slice of pizza. I could taste the sweetness of the clams.
Special -Purgatorio (spicy tomato sauce, 2 farm eggs, add sausage) - Creatively done with two running eggs on top of the pizza. I'm inspired.
Special - Fungi (wild mushroom, add sausage, panna) - The only white sauce pizza we ordered that night. One of my favorites.
Excellent service from our waitress. Food came out in a timely manner, considering all the pizzas they have to make: to go orders and the other seated customers. I'm delfinaly craving for a slice now. -
Review from Cristofer P.

Usually the crust of my pizza goes to my dog. But at Pizzaria Delfina, the chewy smokey, delicious crust is just too good to share. Sorry Simba, but dog biscuits for you today.
I've been out to the one in the Mission dozens of times, but just the thought of trying to find parking near 18th St makes me cringe. I was in the Richmond so I decided to give the Lower Pac Heights location a chance and drive by.
Rockstar parking right in front of the restaurant? CHECK. A ten minute wait? CHECK. Honestly at this point I was wondering why I keep going to the Mission location (then I remembered, oh yeah Bi-Rite ice cream and Dolores Park were half block away).
This was a my first trip to this location and it was considerably bigger inside that the Mission spot. There was a small group of people outside waiting for tables, but nothing unreasonable. And so much less foot traffic than 18th St which makes Simba less nervous.
I decided to be adventurous and get the special on the board, the Baccla pizza: salt cod, potato, panna, tomato, and oregano. Like every thing I've ever had at Delfina or the Pizzaria, the taste was stupendous! I thought the salt cod at first was clam (which I LOVE on pizza). The potato was a fantastic compliment to the salty flavor of the cod. It just worked. A little drizzle of red pepper oil would've made it perfect. -

Love the pizza here, especially with the housemade fennel sausage. Have had semi-poor service here a couple of times and the charge for those thin bread sticks nobody really eats is a bit of a joke. Solid 3.5

Review from Aditi R.
4.5 stars
Probably one of the best places I've visited for a great dinner with friends. Reasons: great portions for sharing, prices are affordable, and the atmosphere is relaxed and fun.
Well aware of the wait we might have to endure with the 6 people we had in our group, we [smartly] decided to head there a tad earlier (around 715). Surprisingly enough, we found two tables empty and sat ourselves down immediately. Had we waited just another half an hour, that probably wouldn't have been possible. And I'll explain why in a bit.
We started off with a bottle of wine (well priced and delicious!), calamari and marinated artichokes. Needless to say both the appetizers were great. I personally liked the artichokes more, but the grilled calamari had a lot of flavor. Just remember, it's not fried so the texture is chewy.
We decided to split the following 3 pizzas and it worked out perfectly between 6 people with each getting 3 slices.
1. Broccoli Raab - Star Route Farms Broccoli raab, caciocavallo, mozzarella, olives, hot peppers
2. Salsiccia - Housemade fennel sausage, tomato, bell peppers, onions, mozzarella
3. Panna - Tomato sauce, cream, basil, shaved parmigiano
My favorite was definitely the Salsiccia. The sausage had a ton of flavor and was cooked to perfection. The panna followed as the large shavings of parmigiano and basil added a ton of flavor. And the broccoli raab was good, though compared to the other two, it was definitely my least favorite.
The table also ended up getting the meatball calzone which for many turned out to be the best thing they had the entire night. Definitely give it a try!
Not yet ready to leave (at this point we'd been there for almost 2 hours...I understand the why the wait is so long now...), we looked at the dessert menu and ordered the fried pizza dough with mascarpone cream and gelato in 4 different flavors (favorites being the thai iced tea and the toasted almond)
And 3 hours later, we walked out as we literally shut down the restaurant. Not once was the wait staff curt with us for that (granted we kept ordering food, but we stuck around after we paid for a good 45 minutes) and was incredibly helpful in deciding what to get as well! I love this place and I hope I never have to wait in line so I can continue enjoying it the way I did. Some of the best pizza I've had in the city, hands down. -
Review from Pilan C.
I think Pizzeria Delfina was one of the first in this new wave of fancy pizza joints, but after going back today -- after a way-too-long three years since my first and only visit here -- I think it may be the best. We got there around 11:30am today, and were shocked that we got a seat immediately, since we always see lines every other time we drive by. We started with the grilled asparagus special, which came topped with lardo butter, bacon, and bread crumbs. Amazing! I'm sure all the other stuff cancelled out the healthiness of the asparagus, but I'm still glad we started with veggies. However, the crostini, fried asparagus, and arancini also were very tempting.
We followed that with the Salsiccia pizza and the meatball calzone. The calzone was just perfectly cooked, warm, gooey, and cheesy on the inside, with a nice light, crispy shell. The meatballs were delicious and not too dense. We had the Margherita and Salsiccia pizzas last time, and both were good, but the sausage was definitely the most memorable. Today, the sausage was again super good, and the pizza had the just the right amount of toppings on a perfectly crisp and chewy crust. It was just right. The prosciutto pie and the special Gricia pizza also looked really good, and I think we'll be back soon to try some different pizzas, but we'll probably also get the sausage pizza again too!
I also have to give a special shout out to the staff, who were all very friendly and helpful and always there when you needed them. Just an absolutely perfect lunch today. -
Review from Jason M.
Extremely fresh. Kat F offers great advice, however I'm going to put a small twist on it: Arrive, write your name on the chalkboard with the # of people in your party and snag a glass of red at the bar. There are convenient places to sit and wait for your name to be called and you get to enjoy some vino.
Every time I've visited Delfina the appetizers and pizza have always been cooked to perfection. There is an excellent wine selection, and the wait staff is friendly. The only con is that the tables are quite close in the pac heights location. Totally fine if you don't mind hearing other conversations. -

OH MY GOSH...SERIOUSLY???? I have waited forever to eat here because the place is always packed at both locations but I never have the patience to wait an hour for the hipsters to clear a table.
What the heck is the hype for? Maybe I should have tried something other than the pizza.. but its a pizza place right?
We ordered the Prosciutto Pie and the Broccoli Raab and I couldn't believe how boring and tasteless they were. Wait, I take that back, the Broccoli Raab was so bitter that it made me gag on the first bite. Could not touch that pizza again. The crust is usually one of my favorite things but this was dry, tasteless cardboard.
The place is cute, ingredients are fresh and service is nice, but really?? $44 for 2 small pizzas? I surely could have made this at home on the cheap (and could have made the same tasteless dough with 3 ingredients tops.)
Maybe I'm just getting tired of paying steep prices for food that is nothing but hipster hype.
I would say the Yelp reviews for this place are a total FAIL, but obviously my opinion is not the majority here so I guess I'm missing something..........

If you enjoy thin style pizza but actually want a GOOD pie, go to Caffé BaoNecci in North Beach. (still pricey too, but hey...at least you leave satisfied!) -
Review from Stacy T.
I had been dying to try this place and its where I ended up on my 30th birthday! Since it fell on a weekday, the revelry was postponed to the weekend. That doesn't mean I can't have some deliciousness to fill the gap tho!
We started off with house made lemonade that was perfectly refreshing and noshed on the thin crunchy bread sticks.
When our appetizer came it was a thing of beauty! The beef cheek arancini was bliss in my mouth. Creamy risotto with super tender braised beef cheeks fried to a golden perfection created a decadent morsel that was totally worth the caloric content and $3/ball price tag.
The Marg pizza was the freshest tastiest pizza I've experienced in a long time. The sauce, crust, basil and cheese was in perfect proportion and brilliantly executed.
I believe the hype and was glad I could finally check the box! -
Review from Marty F.
San Francisco, CA
I've had the prosciutto pie and the broccoli raab pizza. I didn't think either one was particularly fantastic. The price was quite high, almost $20 for a pizza I could easily eat in one sitting.
Tonight for a change, I got the fried asparagus with lemon brown butter and parmigiano and a calzone with cheese (caciocavallo and another) and nettles (which really could have been any type of bitter green). The calzone was okay, but nothing to write home about. The asparagus, on the other hand, was amazing! Far and away the best thing I've ever had from Delfina. Next time I go, maybe I'll just get like three orders of that for dinner.
I will keep exploring the menu, and maybe when I find the right entree to go with my asparagus, I'll come back and add another star or two. But for now, I'm really not that impressed with the pizza. -

Parked right in front - SCORE! Walked into Pizzeria Delfina and got a table right away - SCORE!
I don't know why I haven't been back to Pizzeria Delfina for years. I've walked by making mental notes to eat here again, and I always forget about it when I'm thinking about places to go.
I had the margherita and it was flavored so well. You can totally tell that they use fresh tomato sauce and mozzarella. I love how their pizzas are thin, chewy but also crunchy where it needs to be. They also have chili oil, and if you like spicy pizzas, this is the way to go.
I won't forget about you next time Pizzeria Delfina! -

I said I would give this place another try.. and so I did!
Turns out I'm glad I tried it again because I did think the pies were much better. However, again I'd have to say they're just not worth the wait and price.
+Cute spot if you want to spend a LONG time with a date, grab a drink while you wait and get to know each other..
Came here with a party of 6 and it took almost a good 2HRS to be seated.
When we're finally seated we were told it takes about 20 mins to make a pizza, okay. that's cool we decided to order a Calamari appetizer....NOT. it should be called the 'hummus+garbanzo bean dip, with 2 pieces of squid" because thats the misconception that was set down on our table haha.
BEST: Part of the SPECIALS is the pizza with 2 farm eggs and spicy tomato sauce - $15. The spicy sauce is a just a hint but if you tend to add red peppers, beware because it will get HOT haha. Who thought.. egg on a pizza? GENIUS.
Margherita pizza - a classic, good but not extraordinary. Skimpy on the basil - We had to call dibs on who gets one of the slices consisting of the 3 pieces of basil.
+homemade gelato! I wish I got to try it but with the portions that were continually letting us down, I didn't want to pay about $5-6 on a potential measly scoop.

Definitely a cute place. Love the chalkboard and atmosphere the minute you walk in. Good service. Wish the tables were bigger though.
MOZZARELLA IN CAROZZA
Delicious. Very salty though, so I had smaller bits with my bread. We asked for another order of sliced toasted bread because the mozzarella was really big. Yummy dish, I would get this again.
PROSCIUTTO PIE
Prosciutto di Parma, caciocavallo, mozzarella, panna, arugula.
I was surprised how salty the prosciutto is here. The arugula helped with the saltiness and the pizza is very good.
SARDINES
These were actually fried. We wouldn't have gotten them if we knew they were fried, but it was ok. Again, SALTY as hell!!!!!! I had one bite and was done. My cousin and our friend the majority of it.Listed in: SAN FRANCISCO

CROWDED! Get there early to put your name on...even early probably won't be early enough. We were quoted 35-45 minutes when we got there at around 530pm. Ok, not a problem because there are tons of bars nearby.
I SWEAR we had ONE drink, but missed our call. We didn't know this but you can order drinks from inside and drink while you wait. Fortunately, if you re-check in, you can get your place back in line.
I have to preface this by saying I'm not "yay i'm a fan" to all the pizzas we had.
We ordered the prosciutto pie, margherita , and one that was on special. The prosciutto pie was nothing special. It was some slices of meat thrown on the pizza. In fact, if you took a slice, the meat would be attached and it would leave other slices bare naked. Wasn't too much of a fan.
The special, the one name I can't remember, I am a fan of! It was a red sauce pizza that didn't really have any toppings on it. But the red sauce was soooooooooo tasty and with the thin crust everything was in such balance. so good.Listed in: Best Pizza

Review from Sandy L.
came here last night after a day of studying and this pizza ALWAYS hits the happy spot in my belly. This place would be a 5 star minus the never ending long wait!
Every item that we tried was easily 4-5 stars! SO DELICIOUS
1. Fresh-stretched Mozzarella 8.25 - 4 stars - the unfortunate part of this was that they ran out when we ordered but they brought out a fresh batch for us as long as we didn't mind it coming in the middle of our dinner. it was GOOD but it wasn't as stretchy or as tasty as i imagined. maybe i like baked mozzarella more? i expected more flavor to come out from the pieces of mozzarella.
2. Margherita - Tomato, fior di latte mozzarella, basil $13.00 - 5 stars - SO AMAZING! every bite is a mouthful of juicy cheesyness and tomato flavors. typing right now makes my mouth drool. this is my favorite pizza here, hands down!
3. Salsiccia - Housemade fennel sausage, tomato, bell peppers, onions, mozzarella - $15.75 - 5 stars - if you love MEAT, this is the item to order. Every bite guarantees yummy housemade sauce. It's a little on the salty side but really, if you're ordering sausage that's exactly what you expect.
4. Neapolitan Meatballs in Sugo - 13.75 - 5 stars - my absolutely FAVORITE. sometimes i wish they provided more bread so you could scoop up every little bit of sauce that comes with the meatballs. very smooth creamy taste and the meatballs perfectly complement the taste of the sauce. definitely a splittable dish.
5. Prosciutto Pie - Prosciutto di Parma, caciocavallo, mozzarella, panna, arugula = $17 - 5 stars - like the concept of a pie but i still prefer the pizza over the pies here. the prosciutto is very fresh and the presentation is absolutely stunning. taste is GOOD but not my favorite.
Add a pitcher of beer and the total came to $120 with tip.
negatives: SUCH A LONG WAIT! A long wait to get seated (over an hour on a Monday night), a long wait to take our order (probably because of all the people), a long wait to receive our food.... SIGH. This place would definitely be bumped up to 5 stars if we could solve this waiting problem! -
Review from Leana L.
After a long day at work on a Sunday, I went out to grab dinner here at about 8pm. We lucked out and found street parking around the block from the restaurant. There was a line out the door and I knew it would be quite a wait.
The restaurant is pretty small, especially since it has a huge following, but I guess that just adds to its popularity. Walking in, there's a giant chalk board that lists the menu and the day's specials. It's also where you write your own name on the waiting list. To the right there's a few chairs to grab a seat and you can even order a drink (beer/wine) while you're waiting. There's seating at tables and seating at the bar overlooking the kitchen. There's also a couple outdoor tables, which aside from being cold during the middle of winter, it can also be awkward because of all the people waiting for a table only 2 feet away from you.
We ended up waiting about 45-60 minutes to finally get seated. The waitress was nice about it and assured us we would be seated as she write "CLOSED" underneath the wait list.
Since we were anxious to eat,we sat at the first place that opened up -- the bar. Right as we sat down, one of the cooks in the back was throwing a fit and arguing with a waitress... AWKWARD. At the bar, they had breadsticks and a plate of seasonings for our pizzas (hot peppers, cheese, and oregano?). I got the Salsiccia, as did one of my other roommates, and the other roommate got the Prosciutto Pie. Our pizzas came out about 10 minutes later and were perfectly cooked. The flavor combinations were quite tasty and I loved the thin crust. I even ate the ends because the dough was crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside, without it being too much. My roomies split their pies half an half and said the Salsiccia was better than the Proscuitto.
For about $15+ per pie, it's pretty pricey, but the neighborhood is nice and trendy, so it should be expected. The clientele is the young, well-dressed, and successful 20-30 year old crowd, but there are some hipsters. I mostly saw couples or small groups of people. I don't know if I would return right away because I think I preferred Zero Zero's pizzas, but it's a different ambiance from Zero Zero (more casual then the mood-lit happy hour place).
Side Note: They serve bottled Coke! -

Am a big fan of Delfina but am a bigger fan of Pizzerina Delfina. As with any popular SF restaurant, this place has a long wait and doesn't take reservations for small parties. However, come for a later dinner and the wait isn't so bad. If you love thin crust pizza with fresh ingredients, PIzzeria Delfina is THE place to go. Hubby and I usually start with the insalata tricolore and end with two pizzas. You can't go wrong with the margherita, but we've had the broccoli rabe and the prosciutto and arugula - all amazing in their own ways, and the wine selection and cocktails compliment the food beautifully. Save some room for dessert because the amarena cherry sundae is to die for! Trust me, you don't want to miss it!

So, I've waited a LONG time to finally try P Delfina. My friends and family have been raving about the crust, saying it's one of the best in the city. Well, I tried it today and do not agree. At all.
SERVICE - (2 Stars) It all started off great. We arrived for lunch within a few minutes of opening, were greated by a friendly smile and professional attitude, and promptly seated near the kitchen. Once seated, we were serviced promptly and advised of the special and also a modification to the daily menu. A few minutes later, we placed our order for our salad, two pizzas (pies), and two beverages. About five minutes later, we received our salad. After we finished our shared salad (which took about 6 minutes), the salad serving plate was cleared. But this is when the service started to turn... We had noticed that the table next to us (who had been seated after us, and had their order taken just before ours), had already received their pie, eaten what they could (at a leisurely, Fillmore-District-pace), and had their leftover piece boxed up; Before one of our pies was delivered to our table.
Pies were flying out of the kitchen. I appreciate their team delivery service. The chef yells "RUNNER" and one of the servers acknowledges for presentation to the table.
It was over 15 minutes from the time our salad was cleared until our first pie arrived. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it does not take more than 10 minutes to bake a Delfina pie. I will admit that one of my pies had sausage and I will give them the benefit of doubt that it takes longer to bake a pie with (raw?) sausage, but I don't know if they use raw sausage for their pies. But the other pie had prosciutto. I watched them make it... and that one should not have taken any longer than a meatless pie.
What they should have done was managed my expectations better. They should have advised us when our pies would be at our table, sooner than when they did. (Our server actually said to us that our pies would be out in "two minutes", after we had already waited over 10 minutes; but the pies did not arrive in two minutes). Advice to all restaurants... NEVER LEAVE A PATRON WONDERING WHEN THE NEXT EVENT IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN.
AMBIANCE - (4 Stars) I had a great feeling walking towards our table. It was a fresh, open-air dining area and the kitchen and prep areas were open to people walking towards the back/restrooms. Cool UK alternative music was playing on the audio system and a wide range of customers filled the area with excitement. Our table was clean and presented in a minimalist, yet functional arrangement, complete with tasty breadsticks.
FOOD - (2 Stars) This is where I wish I could give a higher rating. We started off with a "gem?" salad that consisted of romaine hearts and avocado. The dressing was very tasty and had a hint tarragon? I would eat a gigantic bowl of this salad if it were given to me. Then we had the prosciutto pie and also the salsiccia pie. My first bites of both of these pies TASTED AMAZING. But that's where the "amazing" stopped. I ended up eating 5 slices of pie within 10 minutes. Each bite was less enjoyable than the previous, because the pie crust was getting more chewy. By the time I had my last bite, my jaws were really tired. It still tasted good. It was still hot. But the texture just killed the enjoyment.
VALUE - (1 Star) What does $70 get you for lunch for two? Breadsticks, two pies, a salad, a hot tea, a soft drink, and a pile of disappointment. I can get over the chewy crust and give it another shot. But waiting and waiting for food, when others are served quickly really kills it for me. -

Service is mediocre, they are not very nice in general.
Kind of noisy if you are looking for a quiet place, although I don't mind the noise.
Food Is good. We were a big group on the table (8 or 9) , few of us asked for different kind of vegetarian pizzas, although at the end they all looked and tasted suspiciously similar. They were fairly good dough. -

I saw the Panna pizza recommended on TV, so I ordered it. It looked and tasted like puke. So gross! I didn't even want to continue eating it after the first slice. Cream on pizza is a bad idea. My friend ordered the Margherita, which was delicious. I would go back and order that.
