I have to bump this up a star because I've been here several times for drinks with colleagues and my supervisor and it's decent.  The biggest deal is the Nachos! $8 for a big plate of nachos with all the fixins on a tortilla plate!  Amazing deal! Compared to the rest of Vancouver restos.

Listed in: Get y'er drank on!, Yelping 101 at the University…, Na'cho mama's nachos!

The only pub at UBC with a dance floor. Besides that, it's pretty unspectacular. Its most notable feature is also what earns the place its name and fame, as the dance floor is sunken a good metre or so below the level of the rest of the floor. They often have hockey showing on some televisions scattered about and a mosterous projector. Most weekends there are DJs spinning some tunes. It's a mix of fairly standard sports bar and club.

The beer selection is middling, as are the prices. A couple of Okanagan Spring brews, Molson, and Bud Light on tap. Expect to pay about $5 for a sleeve. If you want to dance, this is the place on campus, otherwise I recommend you stick to Koerner's.

You can thank Mr.David Suzuki for the UBC staple watering hole, the Pit Pub.  In 1968, Suzuki declared that UBC was ripe for a pub and he garnered support from everyone on campus, thus Pit Pub was born.  While my boyfriend recalls evenings spent dancing the night away here in a beer-induced haze while he attended UBC, I cannot say the same.  We came here before a concert at the Thunderdome and although it was quiet, I could definitely picture myself as a student here, ordering pitcher after pitcher of cheap beer and dissecting the facts of life with fellow scholars.  We ordered from the cantina-style Burger Bar menu, I had a fish sandwich that was, well, typical bar food, edible but nothing fabulous, which when was down with beer was quite palatable.

The Pit has daily specials and events, with Monday Night Football, 2.50 sleeves of beer on Tuesdays as well as live music on the weekends.

It's the place to be on Wednesday nights when all you want to do is dance  and get a little grimy. The Pit is really what the name tells you: a dark hole in the ground. Nothing glamorous about this spot. It's convenient enough when you want a beer right after class or need a place to catch the hockey game.

I often go to the Pit just to chill with a group of friends, but it really isn't the ideal conversation spot. The music is always way too loud even at 3 PM and you've got to squint to see who you're yelling at, but it'll do when noone even wants to walk upstairs to the Gallery.

History

Established in 1973

Home of the legendary Pit Night on Wednesdays, The Pit continues to be the number one bar on campus and features student-friendly pricing.
In 1968, UBC's Associate Professor of Zoology David Suzuki declared "What this campus needs is a pub!" He received full support from the AMS President (former Minister of Forests) David Zirnhelt, and between the two of them, the Pit Pub was born....well, sort of. For five years it continued to be operated out of the SUB ballroom on the second floor, much like a beer garden.
In January of 1969, the Ubyssey described the Pit as "a place to relax, eat a sandwich, and talk about the revolution...".
In the fall of 1971 the most popular beers were Old Style, Uncle Ben's, Labatt Blue, and Heidelberg. There were complaints about the the price of beer being increased from 35 cents to 40 cents, and talk of adding a jukebox and a colour TV. Everybody wanted hot food and was hoping the Pit could start to provide burgers and fries.
In January of 1973, the Ubysse
