Pink Peppercorn makes my heart (and my belly) sing.
I went to the Cannery a few times with out of town family years ago, so of course we made our way to Pink Peppercorn to check it out.
I've brought my parents and my boyfriend here multiple times now, always to A+++ service and food.
Food - delicious. We have dreams of their lobster oil, lobster bisque, and lobster thermidore, but you can't go wrong with anything here. At our last visit, we had a scallop appetizer with a delicious lemon tarragon(?) sauce as our other appetizer and I had an herb-crusted arctic char dish with lobster sauce. It was so good, I wanted to eat my plate!
Even with all of the generous portions in the appetizer and main plates, we save room for dessert. We were boring and went with our favourites at our last visit (white chocolate mousse cake with raspberry coulis and vanilla creme brule - YUM!), but you really can do no wrong with any item on their menu.
Service - impeccable. The two gentlemen servers are always the best. Attentive but they give you just enough space, warm, friendly, funny, and charming. All of the times I've been here (both weekdays and on the weekend), chef Eddy has come out to speak with each of the tables and he is equally warm and charming. All of them show a passion for their work and it shines in their service and food which are second to none! -

Pink Peppercorn is a throw back to the Cannery Restaurant days (closed in 2010) but without the waterfront location and the rustic Cannery decor. Owned by Eddy Geekiyanage and with 5 of the Cannery staff including Jorge (20 yrs), Azim (14 yrs) and Arturo (20 yrs), the menu is a total throw back but the decor is not.
Lobster oil with bread, lobster, salmon wellington, lobster bisque were all throw backs on the menu. The service and crisp white table cloths were also throw backs. They did add a panorama picture on the wall taken from the Cannery Restaurant site but the rest of the decor is typical Kingsway fare bordering on tacky but giving me lots to make fun of which can also be worth the visit.
For starters we had a Scallop special with crusted pepper and crusted herb that was quite good and worth ordering again. I had the Ceasar salad that was large, uninspiring but not offensive. It needed the lemon drizzle to give it a bit of spark. I would skip it next time.
Main courses looked up. The Halibut special was very well cooked with a tasty tomato mango chutney on the side. It apparently had a herb crust but it was more like herbs on top. The Salmon Wellington was huge with a bit too much puff pastry and a very thick piece of salmon. The Merlot sauce was great and the mushroom duxelle was quite good. Overall it was a bit too big especially with any other courses but hard to complain about too much food. The vegetables were perfectly cooked and basic not drenched in sauce. The other main course was Cedar Plank Wild B.C. Salmon with country mashed potatoes, vegetables and the same mango chutney as the Halibut. Again nice piece of salmon and nicely cooked but not really out of the park with flavour.
If you are looking to try desserts at Pink Peppercorn, skip the appetizers. The portions are big and you will likely be stuffed by the time you get to order dessert. We had appies and could not try their desserts.
The lobster oil with balsamic dipping sauce served with the fresh bread was good but the dipping oil was quite fishy and takes a bit of getting used to.
The wine list was also a long throw back with staples that I haven't seen on a wine list since I moved to Vancouver back in the late 1980's (at the risk of dating myself). I ordered a glass of Jackson Triggs Merlot that was ok and complimented the Salmon Wellington with the merlot sauce on the side fairly well. I did notice a Mouton Cadet on the list and held back my sarcastic tongue.
Overall if you are looking for Cannery nostalgia, non-pretense food, very fresh seafood and attentive good service in a suburban nondescript Kingsway location, then check it out. If you are looking for something modern, fresh and new world with a great wine list then maybe don't have pink peppercorns. -

I had been to Cannery long long time ago, I couldn't recall how long ago.... I just remembered they're great for seafood (probably 20 years ago).
We went to Pink Peppercorn with some friends and tried the reborn Cannery..... When I walked in, I found the decor was out of fashion... so crappy!!
Service was great at the beginning. When they were getting busy 1/2 hour later, we were kept waiting and waiting... for a drink and food. They only have 2 waiters on the floor not even have a bus boy on Sunday night.
Some of foods were great, some just ok.
Lobster oil and balsamic vinegar with bread - Awesome!!
Spinach, Prawn & Papaya Salad - Papaya was tasteless but the chili garlic dressing was delicious.
Calamari - Wasn't bad but not outstanding at all.
Mussels - It's so delightful.
Mahi Mahi - I was so disappointed!! How could they served RAW Mahi Mahi??? I had to asked them to cook it again, of coz, it overcooked afterwards!!!
Salmon Wellington - "So-called" the signature dish fr Cannery.. It was tasty and the pastry was so good.
Sauteed Scallops & Prawns with rice - scallops was a bit fishy and very Asian style dish.
Roasted Rack of Lamb - It came in huge portion and lamb was quite chewy!!
NY cheesecake - it was light and plain
Tiramisu - it was so watery and ladyfingers so soaky. I couldn't taste any flavorful liquor too. -

The food at this place is simply amazing, its like something that you would get at a swanky restaurant downtown but without the hassle of paying for parking and a higher price tag.
I would have given it 4 stars because the decor is not the greatest to look at. But I go here for the food and not the weird fishnets and other things they have on the walls.
I've had the lobster here, amazing, lobster oil, amazing, breaded salmon (I think it was a special), delicious. I can't remember what other dishes I've had but I've never been disappointed with the food.
The owner, Eddy came out to ask us how we were doing a few times I've been there. He's extremely nice. The waiters are really nice as well, they always joke around with you. I love this place and as long as the food stays this good, I will always come back. -

I almost didn't want to write a review because I think this place is so underrated and under-appreciated in Yelp community that I'd like to have it as my secret place to dine in Vancouver but thought I'd be a nice guy and let my secret out to y'all.
As you know, Vancouver is known for great seafood dining and this is one of greats. It's located little outside of happening places but that's what makes this place so under-appreciated in my mind.
From outside, it looks like a piece-of-crap restaurant with no real efforts to attract younger crowds just by looking at exterior design. However, you never judge a book by its cover and you really should dine in here to get what you've missed so far.
My date and I were visiting from Seattle and this was our first time in Vancouver. The whole weekend was rainy so we were bit disappointed about our weekend and I didn't want to bump her down any lower so decided to splash (but it really isn't that expensive) and treat her to nice dining before we head down.
They have ample street parking available and I was able to get prime time spot on Saturday 6:00PM. The restaurant wasn't crowded at all, maybe two or three dinner tables served but by the time we left, the place was 75% full.
My date and I don't drink, so we didn't bother looking at drinks menu. We went straight to the entree. The restaurant was running two chef creations which my date ordered salmon and I got their house specialty - Wellington. Both came out about 20 minutes later, which in mind is not too early and not too late.
The foods were excellent! At the price, I felt like we got steal! Those would've cost so much more in our hometown (Washington DC) but being served in harbor city, it was a great deal and was extremely pleasant with the portion and quality of the foods.
The service was perfect. Our host knew that we were first-timer, so he took time explaining the menu and answered our question diligently. At the end of evening, the head chef came out and asked how our dining was and thanked us for coming - which I should've done for serving great foods!
I shall come back to this place next time I'm in Vancouver. Vancouver wasn't so kind and didn't give me any sunshine, but that means I'll have my 2nd chance of visiting! -

I had been to the Cannery a few times before it closed in March of 2010. The food (lobster oil, salmon Wallington with pinot noir sauce, sable fish etc) there had been exceptional and the night view by the water was breathtaking. I was dismayed by the fact I couldn't have my one last meal at the Cannery a month before it officially announced its closing as I couldn't get ANY reservation. Just as I thought I could never have Cannery food ever again, I got invited to my partner's company dinner held at - The Pink Peppercorn.
Eddy, the head chef at The Pink Peppercorn was one of the head chefs who worked magic at the Cannery. Eddy brings a lot of popular dishes from the Cannery to his restaurant and needless to say, salmon Wallington is on the menu. I didn't get a chance to try the Wallington but my partner and I had some pretty darn good West coast seafood that night. We started with a crab & salmon cake, clam chowder, warm spinach, prawn & papaya salad, and a shared main - sturgeon with seasonal vegetables in tomato mushroom sauce with mashed potato.
The first three appetizers came simultaneously. I wouldn't necessary call them "appetizers" because the portions were so generous that each dish was practically 1/2 to 3/4 of a main. The crab & salmon cake came in the shape of a big thick patty with a bed of greens. I liked the seared crust a lot. The patty had a decent amount of crab and salmon. The clam chowder was very well done too. I've never had sage as the backdrop spice for clam chowder but hey - it works. The chowder had decent amount of potato cubes and clams. The consistency was perfect. It's definitely not starched up or watered down. My favorite of the three appetizers was the salad. If you liked something that is sour and tangy, this is the dish for you. The prawns were huge and fresh. I think there were at least 5 big prawns. What's so interesting about this dish is that the spinach leaves were lightly cooked. And for the leaves that were not quite softened, the garlic vinegarette dressing helped "cook" it. Think of it like ceviche but instead of seafood, you are getting spinach. Delicious.
By the time we finished the three first courses we were full. We were full to the point we couldn't even finish an entree split in two equal portions. The entree was HUGE. I am not a fan of fish so I only had a bite of sturgeon. I polished off my seasonal veggies and half of the mashed potato. My partner had of the fish and barely touched his sides.
We did share a slice of cheesecake for dessert from St. Germain's Bakery as it was his colleague's birthday. Sharing is not a fair word as I had only one bite and my partner had the rest.
If you've been to the Cannery, you will probably recognize a lot of decor as I've been told that Eddy bought them prior to these items being auctioned off.
I would definitely come back to this place again. I love the food and would order the salmon Wallington next time around. The lobster oil with balsamic vinegar was exactly the same as how I remembered it. If I had lobster oil poured all over me I'd be happily licking myself off like a little purry kitten, but that's another story.Listed in: West Coast Food

My husband and I went to the Pink Peppercorn last Friday night for our Anniversary dinner and it was GREAT! The Prawn Caesar was a great drink to start the night, freshly sauteed spicy prawn, then on to appys. My husband had the crusted goat cheese salad and I had the lobster bisque, both were great. The main event was the chef's creation, halibut with a morel, cremini mushroom and prawn sauce. Awesome. And to end the evening Tiramasu. And not to forget the lobster oil. YUM. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was the restaurant temperature was too hot.
But we look forward to going again! The Cannery might be gone but this is a close second. -

I've never been to the Cannery from which this restaurant seems to have been reborn. As for the Pink Peppercorn, it was ok -- good food.
It's important to make reservations, as we did. We sat near the door and noticed several groups were turned away as tables were already reserved.
We started with the calamari which was superb -- fresh, tender, and lightly battered.
Our waiter was friendly but kind of inept. Our table of five placed our orders and shortly thereafter he returned to give two of us bowls for our shells ... unfortunately, he gave them to people who hadn't ordered shellfish. So, we moved things around.
Then, he brings out the first 3 dishes and places them in front of three people. We all kind of looked at each other as he walked away since NONE of the dishes were in front of the right people, so we moved things around.
He returns with the final two dishes and gives them to the remaining two people at the table, then leaves. We look at each other, trying not to giggle, because these two dishes were also in front of the wrong people ... so we move things around.
He returned later and not sure if he noticed his multiple errors.
Food was good -- fresh and tasty. My salmon seemed overcooked and a bit dry. Otherwise, ok.
When it came time to pay, it was difficult to get the waiter's attention. Overall, good seafood with kinda offbeat service. -

This place is dynamite.
Very unassuming from the outside, but once we went in we were treated with A+ service and great food. We were in town for vacation and this was the best meal we had! -

Do you miss eating at the Cannery? Well, you're in luck, because the same chef has opened Pink Peppercorn! They even have the lobster oil for sale. ($20)
There were 4 of us in total and we ordered 2 orders of the seafood pasta, which was amazing! Mussels, salmon, clams, scallops with linguine and tomato sauce. I just ate some for leftovers for breakfast 5mins ago again. I love how pasta is even better the next day!
We ordered 2 orders of the shared seafood platters and everything on the platter was extremely fresh. I was worried since there were only 2 tables in the restaurant, but quickly found out that there was nothing to be afraid of.
We also had the swordfish and the smoked cod. Everything was devine! The portions were quite big which surprised me as well.
And the service? Top notch! I guess being the only other table there really helped, but our waiter was very professional and funny.
I guess most people don't know about this place yet so it's not that busy. I hope business picks up and they do not close down. I will have my heart broken again...Listed in: Date Night Suggestions

I miss the Cannery. So when I heard about Pink Peppercorn I had to rush in to try. Food is every bit as great as Cannery minus the view, plus no entertainment coupon discount.
My favorite Smoked Black Cod still there so I'm happy. Not happy bout the price though $36.
Wish price can be adjusted downwards a bit to match the location and decor and I will be a regular -

Better than average food with prices that are too high in a restaurant that has very poor decor. The neon lights inside the restaurant make it hard to feel like you are having a romantic dinner. The food rating would be 4/5 and the decor would be 2/5.

Great food and service. Decor is a bit odd (Chinese restaurant meets drift nets). Former chef and staff from the cannery. Food was great and prices good for the quality. Definitely worth a try.

This restaurant is all about the food and service. I loved going to the Cannery and though I was sad it closed down, I am glad that this restaurant is only a walking distance from where I live. Plus, the Cannery chef now works for this restaurant and is doing wonders in the kitchen. I went there last Friday and it was worth every cent of my dining experience. The seafood was fresh and absolutely delicious. Our sublime food waiter recommended the mussels. It was the best I've ever had here in North America.
I'll keep coming back to this place to make sure it's still around in 12 months time. -

Although the decor could use some serious help, the food is full of flavour and delicious! The service was perfect as well. Can't wait to go back!

The Pink Peppercorn is definitely worth a visit! The former chef and wait staff from The Cannery deliver the caliber of food and service you would expect from a high-end restaurant downtown. Accessible for people throughout the lower mainland, and free parking make this an easy choice. I agree completely that the decor needs some serious help, but if you are able to put that aside, you will be charmed by the professional waiters and amazing food. We cannot get enough of the lobster oil or Salmon Wellington, both carry-overs from the Cannery. The clam chowder is also out of this world!
