My partner and just went there and ate the best food! I had the caramelized tofu with rice (doesn't look great) and now I don't think I could ever order anything else! Was so good! Ben had the curry chicken and he swears the exact same thing. Quite cheap - and we had a coupon from the Entertainment book. We will go there every opportunity we get! Mmm, so full of goodness

I was stoked when I read somewhere that Pho Vuong served up the best Vietnamese food in Victoria, and that they had vegetarian options. However, our experience was not great, and it is pretty unlikely that I'll return.

We all agreed that the vegetarian hot and sour soup was decent, despite its wilted basil leaves and soggy bean sprout accompaniments, but the veg noodle dish (greasy, tasteless, its only saving grace was the inclusion of taro) and caramelized tofu were unpalatable. The service was not great. I am forgiving with service and all for family-run restaurants, but our server nearly bit my boyfriend's head off when he politely alerted her to the dried up rice on his (unused, by him) spoon. I could go on, but I won't. I sincerely want this restaurant to step it up and succeed, because Victoria's Chinatown area could really use a great Vietnamese restaurant. I'm very curious about the vegetarian pho. The caramelized tofu was appallingly bad. Just mini hunks of tofu swimming in a sauce that tasted of molasses. The fresh spring rolls were meant to include tofu, but didn't, and the peanut sauce was very sweet.

If you are looking for good Vietnamese food in Victoria, I'll still have to recommend Le Petit Saigon as the only place you are not likely to be disappointed. We all ordered vegetarian at Pho Vuong so, as usual, I can't speak to any of the non-veg menu offerings. Perhaps they don't get a lot of vegetarians and vegans, because the quality of the vegetables and tofu in all the dishes we tried was visibly low.

I'm wavering between 1 and 2 stars, but since the service leading up to the event was good, I'll stick with 2.

Up until recently, I was a Pho virgin.  Which shocked a great number of people who think it's the second coming.  The reason why I avoid pho like the plague (and now I realize for good reason), is because I'm allergic to shellfish.  Not just a little upset tummy or hives, but constriction of airway so I can't breathe.

I was assured that one can avoid shellfish in such a place, so we went.

The BF was really good about asking what had shrimp in it and what didn't (since it wasn't always clear on the menu) and as such I avoided the papaya salad and crispy rolls.  As a part of this conversation, we informed her that I was allergic to shrimp.  And I asked her if there was shrimp in the pho.  Apparently there wasn't, so I ordered the vegetable salad roll thing and steak pho.

A short time later, I got "the feeling."  The feeling I know all too well when some variation of shellfish has touched my food.  I may seem a little extreme, but I rather like being able to breathe.

What ended up happening is that I couldn't finish my meal, I had to wreck our date by going home and taking Benadryl.

Food allergies are no joke.  Restaurants need to take note.

This place is my top spot for cheap and delicious pho in Victoria! It's super clean, the service is friendly and their pho is delicious. My favorite is the tofu and veggie pho but I have tried several things on the menu and it is all good. The crab soup (#19) is also highly recommended!

Another plus is that they are open until 10pm!

Happily upgrading Pho Vuong to four stars. I've been back, and the salty broth appears to have been a one-time anomaly. Last time, my pho was perfect, and just what the doctor ordered for a bad cold. The service here is great, as well. Good stuff.

Literally 20 seconds away from my front door, Pho Vuong is located where Gladiola's Chinese restaurant used to be and I'm happy to say that I've found my new lunch and dinner spot. The staff are friendly without being intrusive, and the restaurant is tastefully decorated and clean. Their selection of Pho is large, but not overwhelming. I had the steak and brisket Pho in a large size. While I made the right choice in soup (the meat was plentiful and yummy), where I went wrong was with the size. This bowl of soup is huge! So much meat and noodles, I really should have gotten a regular size. The broth was great with a little doctoring (I like mine really spicy). The amount of food you get for the price you pay is awesome. $13 for a gigantic bowl of soup and a beer is hard to beat.

Ordered delivery from pho vuong through Dine in Victoria (it's the only pho place I can find with delivery). Prices are reasonable, pho was good, broth was nice (but maybe just a tad salty). Ingredients for the pho were all good quality and seemed fresh. The salad roll type appies we got were really tasty and fresh, better that most of the other Vietnamese restaurants in town and the peanut sauce it came with was excellent. The fried roll was above average. I'll most likely try to find time to dine in the restaurant and will definitely order delivery again the next time I get a night time pho craving. Pho Vuong gets a 3 star for now and hopefully an upgrade in the future after return visits.
