This is a much-reviewed, much-loved Vietnamese pho restaurant right near Central City mall.

Be warned, it's cash-only and the portions are gigantic. The $0.50 difference between a medium bowl of pho and a large bowl, is quite noticeable while still being easy on the wallet.

It's frequently packed with locals, and the food is consistently good. My girlfriend and I come here a lot to get our monthly "pho fix." I've never had a bad meal here. It's also a great place to bring your visiting friends, since pho is a pretty specialized dish that's hard to find in other places.

They have a larger than average menu, but for those Yelpers who are looking for the traditional pho experience, stick with the rare beef (it cooks in the broth).

Parking is a b*#% at this shady little place in the heart of Whalley and don't expect anything fancy. But it's worth going if you want some good Vietnamese food! I'm not a big fan of soup but when I am in the mood the pho from here really hits the spot. I really enjoy their rice dishes and have not found any spring rolls elsewhere that would even compare. Service is quick and prices are reasonable although I think they've recently increased... If it's your first visit be prepared with cash only and make sure you try a spring roll!

I've been here before but it was years ago. I was in town and need a bowl of pho. I decided to try pho tam again. The soup is very good. As good as some of the best I've had. I like to add lots of hot sauce and chilli oil to my soup. I sweat a little and hate the way they don't have napkins at the table. They give you one napkin per person. I ask for more and they look at me funny.

I'm no pho connoisseur, but this much I know: Pho Tam's got it going on! Having been pescetarian for the last three years, I can only tell you which Vietnamese Noodle places have bad vegetarian pho (almost all of them) and which ones have good salad rolls (almost all of them).

My trusty extremely carnivorous ex-Surreyite ex-roommate told no lie when he took us to Pho Tam and claimed that it was the best pho in town (and quite possible anywhere). On the late Sunday afternoon of our arrival, the line up was out the door. Everyone shared tables and no one seemed to care about anything more than the huge fragrant bowls of food before them.

While two of us were treated to full on pore opening facials from the steam of the piping hot broth of our flank and rare beef pho, we snacked on the mountain of bean sprouts and basil and watched in envy as our other two lunch dates dug into their two enormous dishes of lemongrass chicken on rice.

We all walked away with full stomachs, a couple boxes of take out, and the new found first hand knowledge of a local legend.

Easily the best pho in vancouver. My friend used to own a pho chain and he told me to go to this store. The soupbase is clear and packs a punch and the meat given in the soup is extremely fresh. Go here and enjoy a bowl

Went by myself because I had a craving, I was in the area and all you Yelpers put it in my head that this place is a must try...Thank you!

I went there at about 2:00pm on a Tuesday and it was packed.  I was shown to a seat quickly though, brought tea and water and ordered the large pho and spring roll combo (about $9 tax in).  As I was sitting there after I ordered I noticed the "Cash only" sign.  I quickly got my servers attention and told her I needed to run to a bank machine and would be back quickly.  After getting back, there was a wait...it had gotten even busier.  I figured being that busy my seat was gone but decided to look anyway and it was still there.  I sat down and my server had my food within minutes.  When does that ever happen?

The pho was really good.  I would go so far as to say it is tied for the best I've had.  The meat was lean and tender, the noodles were plentiful and cooked perfectly, and the broth had just the right amount of all the spices.  Of course I have to add hot chillies and all the other stuff, but I make a point of trying the broth before I spice it up.

However, the meat spring roll was just ok.  By "ok" I mean the absolute slap my face and call me Sally, freaking fantastic, bee's knees, absolute bestest I have ever had!  I don't know what made them so darn tasty, but just the spring roll alone will have me coming back for more.

Yes it's busy.  Yes it`s lots of shared tables (not all of them).  But the food is fantastic, the staff is friendly, the price is right and they will even pay the $1.00 parking in the Safeway parking lot if you bring the receipt.

I really, really want to give it 5 stars, but I promised I would not give any 5 stars when I started reviewing.  I would give it 4.5 if only I could.

So, for all things good and right in this world...go there!  Eat! Enjoy! Also, do yourself a favour...try those gifts from Super Happy Fun Land they call spring rolls.

*Draw breath* Gasp *draw breath* and gasp again... x16

This place is so far away that when i get there my hair is as long as my grandma's...

But its SO worth it... My old friend in my first homestay took me here and introduce me to their bowl of steaming goodness and heavenly spring roll. The pho here is very flavorful, i don't know how but their broth is like ecstasy i couldn't get enough of it, the meat servings are very very generous as well. I usually go for the number 14, it is the spicy flavoured pho with meatballs and just meaty goodness. Everytime i went here i can always expect consistency and i've been here a whole lot.

Their spring roll is also amazing, very crispy and flavourful with the dipping sauce. The dipping sauce is sour but not too sour and has sort of a sweet note on it. It compliments the flavor of the spring roll as well as the pho.

The only drawback is that it is soo far away from where i live that when i finished eating and went home i need a haircut. (JK)

Seriously though, you have to try this place.

The best pho I've had in a long, long, time.... The noodles are nice and chewy, the broth is heavenly, and the portions are HUGE.

The place is really busy - we came at 11:15am and the place was already more than half-full - and the parking sucks (park at the Safeway across the road), but it is totally worth it.

The stir-fried noodle dishes are also pretty decent - we had the short ribs and chicken noodle and the portions were both generous and tasty.

    This place is so good!

Always busy, very authentic and definitely one of my favorite restaurants in Surrey.

The spring rolls are crispy and fresh and the soup broth is always hot and steamy.  The last time I went, I tried a rice combo.  Equally as delicious and the pork egg patty was so good.

Tip: parking is hard there, if you're going to park at the safeway lot, make sure you purchase a ticket.  you will get reimbursed by the restaurant.

    A must try!

For me, this is probably one of the best places to get a bowl of Pho in the GVRD.  Flavourful broth, lots of noodles and meat for a great price.  Spring rolls are authentic using rice wrappers.  It's usually very busy and parking in the area generally stinks, but it is oh-so-worth-it.  Don't be scared to come over to Whalley for some Vietnamese...

This place have great pho! Their pho is addictive i could hit this joint every week but of course i don't because there are more great restaurant to review.

I would recommend people to order the number 14 which is a spicy bowl, i know some people is not a fan of spicy food but i would bravely say that the hotness in the soup is not spicy enough. But for the people with milder tongue i would recommend the number 1, and also i recommend the big noodle which is nicer.

The spring roll is also really really good, watch out not to eat it as it came out, its always piping hot. This place reminds me of the traditional restaurant that you encounter in South East Asia where people eat together in one long table and be able to chat with one another while enjoying a hot pho and spring roll..

Surely this is one of my favorite joint....

They have really good pho here. Like, really good. And delicious spring rolls! The only issue I have is the sort of "communal table" setting. They have a bunch of long tables and they're shared. Which means not much personal space, and it can get pretty noisy. But it's totally worth it.

This is one of the best Viet places I have come across in Greater Vancouver. Good food. Good prices. Often packed. Cash only. Parking is hard but worth it. Cash only! Get #29 with chicken and an ice coffee. Ask for Mahn, very helpful if not busy.

This is one of the best pho places you'll find in the lower mainland.  Even though the prices have an increased from the 6.00 for a large bowl over the last few years, this place will be worth it.  It gives a generous amount of meatballs and noodles, and the soup is the best that you can buy (excepty mom's homemade one).  So this is a pretty good deal.

Very yummy pho ... always go there when I have a craving for Vietnamese food.  Parking is quite a hassle, advised to park at Safeway, pay for the parking for this place validates $1 off your parking fee - good deal if you ask me.

Always pack more so during lunch time but worth the trip.

This place has been here ever since I came to Canada over 10 years ago. And while there are many other Vietnamese restaurants that have opened since (including one right next door), I still think Pho Tam is the best Vietnamese Restaurant there is in Surrey. The pho is absolutely delicious and the soup is very tasty. Get one of the specials, they come with spring rolls or salad rolls. The spring rolls are rather different from some other variations (the rice wrapper seems quite different) but they are big and crispy.
