Love love love! Finally found some Pho to write home about. Few things in this world make me happy like pho does, I don't know why but there is something about shoving my face in a bowl of steaming broth and noodles that just puts a smile on my face. Works everytime.
The rest of the folks really nailied this place already so I don't actually have much to add. Good clean broth with a lovely fragrance, tons of noodles, and of course the sprouts, basil and lime on the side.
One bonus this place has is that you can choose from 3 sizes of pho to satisfy your appetite. I ordered the small - and it was to much for me as it was. We also had some fresh rolls, but really the Pho was the focal point.
I say don't go for the noodle bowl but hit this place for pho.
Also, you can park behind and there is also a back door to the resto.Listed in: Best of....

This place is a solid choice for Pho. I didn't bother reading the menu (opting instead to go with my standard XL bowl of pho with rare steak and tripe), but if I had I probably would have tried the 16V that Sarah Louise mentioned in her review (though I would have added steak to it; I'm a vegetable-loving omnivore). I'l be back for that...
Things I liked about the pho here included: a lot more sprouts and basil than I'm used to getting; a very meaty and robust (though slightly murky) broth; and the use of noodles of varying width (which create an inconsistency in texture that I like).
A couple of minor issues: first, the tripe wasn't sliced/shredded thin the way I like it. Instead, it came in somewhat chunkier pieces, which I found slightly unpalatable. Second, by the time the bowl arrived at the table the 'rare steak' was well done. Perhaps the broth was too hot; perhaps the steak was added too early. -

This is a review of my vegan experience at this restaurant. Was frustrated with the lack of vegan reviews for the area on Yelp, so I'm adding mine. Note that I am ok with shared oil/kitchens. I also don't usually check if the beer is vegan.
Pros:
Cheap!
Vegan options!
Pretty tasty!
Open till 10pm, so good option after picking people up at the airport
Cons:
Not extremely tasty!
(I'd really give this place a 3.5, but I'm rounding up because of how frustrated I am with the lack of good cheap vegan meals in Calgary.) -

The food at Pho So 1 is what you would expect when ordering Vietnamese cuisine, but nothing extraordinary as far as rice vermicelli goes. If you order delivery, the portions are a little below what i've had at other restaurants, but the prices are on par with most other places.
The service was polite, and curteous, although not completely informative. The delivery took a resonable amouny of time (20-30 minutes, but I live close). However, when I asked if there was a minimum amount that needed to be ordered for deliveries they neglected to mention that although there is no minimum purchase required, there is a five dollar delivery fee. Would have liked to have known this before their delivery person was standing at my door.
I would still say to check them out if you can dine in, as the portions may be larger, and the added charges smaller. -

I absolutely adore Pho So 1 and I am pretty sure that the only reason I hadn't previously left a review was because I didn't even know what it was actually called until today.
Probably my favourite things at this little place is the 16V, a huuuuuge bowl of veggie broth, rice vermicelli, tons of veggies, sprouts, and fresh basil(SO MANY BASILS) and cilantro. I do have a habbit of absentmindedly adding way too much hot sauce though whilst chatting with friends. Earlier this evening after a terrible day, I stopped by to get a rice vermicelli dish with veggies and spring rolls (sooo yummy), and the lovely couple remembered I was vegan and packed me up some big helpings of hoisin and peanut sauce when they saw me instead of fish sauce. Although I am not a hoisin fan it was adorable. Two hours later and a couple episodes of TV on dvd, I am cured.
Their salad rolls are also yummy and fresh. And the set up in here is rad. One can always find a table, and its perfect to bring a couple people, a friend for some catch up time, or to come slurp some noodles by one self and read a book.Listed in: vegan friendly in calgary

Pho So 1 is a bit of a hidden gem. It is located just a block down from the Asian mall on the corner of 16th and Centre, and is just off of Centre Street. The entrance to the place is actually located on the other side, in the parking lot! I was taken here my first time, otherwise I never would have found it.
It is small and dinky and more than a little wonderful. The service is good, the food is good, and the atmosphere which makes it feel almost like a cafeteria is a little refreshing. It feels authentic, which I like.
I'm partial to their springrolls (which come cheap) and the giant crispy egg noodle dish that they have which is just delicious. I always end up splitting it or taking half of it home. The Pho is also tasty and delicious, and very slurpable. They use quality beef which I like.
When I was here recently, I decided to vary from the selection of sweet dessert like drinks that they had on order. The three bean soy drink is filling and delicious, the aloe drink refreshing, and the coke with real lime juice is very sweet. I just wanted water... with some lemon. After finally explaining sufficiently (it took a little while) to the gentleman who I think is the owner, I received my water... and beside it, a little dish with two limes! Haha, it was totally cute and endeared them to me forever.
