Review from Alan K.

I agree with Rod that this place has a nice/clean modern decor and very friendly service. I found the prices a touch high however. I tried their Vietnamese sour soup and it was an interesting mix of noodles and beef (you get a choice of protein if I remember correctly) while the tamarind-flavoured broth is topped with cilantro, thai basil, bean sprouts, pineapple, and garlic. There was too much broth in what was a fairly large bowl of soup and not enough of the noodles and meat (just a few slices of beef). The flavour of the broth was quite interesting though as the tamarind gave it a sweet and sour taste that I've never experienced before in Vietnamese cuisine. I wasn't a big fan of the pineapple however as it made the dish a little too sweet for my taste. Overall, I felt that my dish could've used more salty and sour flavours to have made it a bit more balanced. My friend had the pho and said it was ok. Menu is on the smaller side so not the widest selection. They're a new place so perhaps they're still working some things out with their menu but until they do, I think I'll pass on this one.

Review from Rod S.

This restaurant has been open less than a year (since May 2010). The decor is clean and modern. The service very friendly and helpful, the prices reasonable. I only had a bowl of Pho and some vegetable rolls, which were okay. I can't speak for the rest of the food., but I would go again to try some other things on the menu.

There are two reason I go to eat Pho. Number one: it's a warm food hug in a delicious bowl of flavourful salty broth, rice noodles and yummy beef. Number two: it's great value. Neither of these criteria were meant with the bowl of pho that I got from Pho Haven. I got my pho to go, and got home to rice noodles with a few measly pieces of brisket and some not so tender tripe and tendon. I felt so gipped that I almost threw it out and went to another Pho place to get a real bowl, however I decided to give it a try to see how the flavour would be. Again, I was disappointed. There was little flavour to the broth, and the brisket was just as bland. I can't judge the other dishes at the restaurant, however with a name like Pho Haven, you would think that they would at least get that right. I will never go to this restaurant ever again, and if you are wanting a flavourful and bang for you buck bowl of pho, I suggest you look elsewhere.
