Review from David B.
You can't miss Pettipas. This place sticks out like a Las Vegas novelty store on a lonely country road, right before the Nova Scotia and Cape Breton border on the Causeway. However, one should not be deceived by this tourist shop's facade and trinkets. Pettipas has some of the best seafood chowder and seafood plates you will ever eat. The chowder is creamy, full of fresh seafood (shellfish and regular fish) and and seasoned well. Regular seafood dishes such as mussels and lobsters are steamed to perfection and come with as much butter as you can muster. And then there's the owner, John. He is exactly what South Park is talking about regarding their stereotyping of of Canadians. Very eccentric, heavy Acadian accent and quite a loon. I say this in a good way of course. He will talk your ear off, take a picture with you and recite local history in song and verse. Supposedly he is an icon in Auld's Cove and parts of Cape Breton. In fact, if his food wasn't so good you'd probably wave him off as another crackpot like I do with most Canuks.
Definitely stop by here for lunch or dinner, some NS tourist trinkets and a dose of John Pettipas.
