Great happy hour, and it's kid-friendly, too -- $1 sliders and $2 fish (or chicken or beef tacos), and drink specials ($2-5 beer/wine, nice selection), every day 4-7 pm.  Can't beat that!  The kids each had 2 sliders, and their grandma and I each had a slider and fish taco.  The fish tacos were ok, but the sliders were excellent - small but thick and juicy patty w/ cheese and grilled onions, and super soft bun.  They've got a couple TVs, which were both too loud for me, but the sports fans seemed to enjoy them. Overall, a cool neighborhood bar & grill.

Came in with some friends who live in the area and know the owners.

I ordered the Pete's Burrito, but made it a scramble (without the tortilla). Scrambled eggs, sausage, hash browns and cheese - $6.

It was OK. It did fill me up for the rest of the day, which was great.

There were only a few patrons so I didn't get a feel of the locals. Beers available on tap. I did try a sip of their Bloody Mary, and WOW was it spicy!

Pete's is very cool.  I stopped in here for happy hour with a friend of mine.  They had $2 PBR advertised on the window... it could have been that or the Michael Jackson that was playing that lured us in.  Either way, the staff was really friendly.  This is an eat-in bar.  The bar food looked good, and I loved the disco ball that was on top of the ceiling.

I think this place probably pops off on the weekend.
I'll be heading back to find out.

Since Joe's Coffee closed I have been looking for a replacement spot in this neighborhood for a solid burger.  This is it.

The burger and fries were both delicious.  The decor is cool and the prices are right.

Joe's burger will always be considered the best burger in Point Loma, as far as I am concerned, however this place is worthy when it's time to scratch a burger itch and you're nearby.

I have found my Cheers spot in Point Loma. Its an OK size for a bar and grill. There are more than enough options for a beer from IPA's to barleywines. prices are good. Food is delicious. Nice juicy burgers and fries. Everyone knows that he has great fish tacos as well. Long Live Petes Grill!!!!

This is a fantastic hole in the wall bar. There are so many beer options for beer thirty. The food is great, I highly recommend the burgers & sweet potato fries. The bartenders are very friendly and personable and they have a few tv's to watch sporting events on. Everything is reasonably priced and the atmosphere is friendly & Pt Loma'ish,  well worth checking out.

Just alright, nothing special... ordered a turkey burger with mushrooms and got a turkey burger with onions?  They brought me the sauteed mushrooms on the side once I told them they goofed BUT... sauteed CANNED mushrooms??  Really?  Yes, I can tell the difference and there is a huge difference between fresh and canned.  I was really hungry so I ate it.

The people there are nice though :)

Went there New Year's Eve as a stop over before a party. It was surprisingly spacious despite being in a small strip mall. Very nice warm decor with rich woods and a granite counter. Couple of flat screens on different walls. Had a couple of locals chilling at the tables and the bar.

16 beers on tap of craft beers.  It's a half bar of beer and wine.  Pete tended the bar for us and was a nice, friendly, soft spoken guy.

They have an extensive food menu selection of appetizers and entrees. Burgers are 1/2 lb patties, juicy and flavorful. I had the gringo, recommended by Pete as his choice burger. It has sliced jalapenos, jack cheese and bacon. It was tasty but could've liked the bacon crispier. I also tried the little joe's BBQ burger and I liked that one better. Sweet BBQ sauce. I really liked the fries.

I recommend this place as a chill, hole in the wall at OB/Point Loma. Friendly service, good food, relaxed atmosphere.

Have been in this place a few times before for beers and food.  Never had a bad experience until tonight.  Went in a few hours ago to get a beer before I was gonna grab a burrito next door at Ortiz and go home.

So the problem starts, I walked in , and decided to use the bathroom before I grabbed a beer.  I was basically chased  by some old man saying this is for customers only... wtf!!!  Who does that?  I ain't no bum, I don't smell, I don't look horrible... just in shorts, flip flops and a tee.  I've never been treated like this before in my life.  I will never go back to this place.  I sincerely hope nobody ever is made to feel like I felt by that pos again.  Absolutely ridiculous!!!!!!!!!

Pete's is the perfect definition of a local dive in Point Loma/OB.....small, cheap, fun!  Based on Yelp reviews I stopped in yesterday for happy hour and had a few Kona's and mahi mahi taco's while watching the Padres lose, once again!  I wanted a burger but had a hard time not ordering the tacos after seeing them on the happy hour menu.  Can I get the recipe for the sauce please??????

The locals started to roll in as I sat there and the bartender knew them all by name.

Don't let the small strip mall scare you away.  Stop in and sit a spell!!!

Best part:  it is literally blocks away from my house!!!!

I go to Pete's several times a week and have thoroughly enjoyed everything I've ordered. I've tried nearly all of the burgers (the Point Loma is my favorite) and am now working my way through the sandwiches (Philly in Heat current leader in the clubhouse). They've got a great selection of beer on tap and have cheap PBRs and Konas everyday. I would highly recommend trying Pete's to anyone in the area who likes a good burger and a cold beer.

    Once again, Pete delivers...(literally!)

It was about 8:00 last evening, and my husband was going to be getting home soon from work. After staring in the fridge, and deciding that nothing was calling to me to make for dinner, I remembered that Pete's had a filet mignon special today for $11 (including salad and fries).

Since that sounded a lot more attractive than doing dishes so that I could cook, I phoned in an order for two specials and some onion rings.

Pete's makes some great onion rings. They are just perfect when they are hot. In fact, the onion rings are the reason that I'm writing this update. After eating just three, I felt the need to tell others about their fabulousness.

Onion rings can be messed up really easily. The batter that you use is very important. The ideal onion ring has a bit of texture, but doesn't feel like shake n bake. These onion rings had a great batter, and were melt-in-your-mouth yummy. Definitely a win.

Between the onion rings, and the good, affordable steak dinner, I couldn't be happier with Pete's.

    OK Petes,

You get four stars from me and you deserve it.  Always good food, always great service and some of the nicest people to deal with.

Even after reading the negative comments on my previous posts you guys are still friendly and accomodating.

Yeah, Pete's is my favorite place in the world. I don't think I like anything more than a giant burger, fries and super fast/friendly service. AND CHIVALRY.

When I came here to pick up a to-go order (initiated by a coupon in the monthly mailer for a buy-one-get-one-free entree) on a very rainy, cold night in San Diego. Even though Pete's is like .1 miles from my house, I drove because it was so cold/wet. There is a terrible, tiny, inefficiently shaped parking lot, but aside from that, there is a parking lot.

The place is SO not what the outside suggests it might be. It's very warm, inviting and beautiful inside. Hard-wood floors, candles and calming decor...but at the same time a very well-stocked bar and a lot of flat-screen TVs showing NBA basketball. So the whole place is just exactly what I like in a restaurant. There might as well have been a fireplace and a Christmas caroling choir and it would have looked normal.

The food was VERY GOOD for its price. Then again, I had aforementioned coupon, which brought my whole meal (2 burgers+fries and 2 drinks) to $13. !!!!! That is crazy talk. Even in San Diego, I think that's really cheap. BTW, their drink selection includes 3 flavors of Bang! The burgers are enormous, big portions of fries. My burger was slightly dry, but I usually don't mind when I get an enormous portion of food offset by the extremely low price.

So the chivalry comes in because Pete (I assume) offered to take my food to my car for me. ?? Who does that! It was so kind, even though I declined, and then he opened the door for me on the way out. SO sweet. All service was great, the waitress who entertained me while I waited for my food to be ready was also very nice and informed me that they had only been open for like 9 months.

I will have to come back here for a sit-down meal, because everyone in here was so friendly. I will most likely try to finagle a new coupon... even though I don't have one.

OK, now I can re-write my review. Not fair on Pete's to leave my original one up there.....

This place is OK. The Buffalo chicken sandwich was crap, the cheesesteak was very good, the fries were nice & Mooncat loved the Mahi-Mahi Tacos.

Beer choice ok but Stella needs to be colder!

Ok this is my second time at Pete's and probably my last. I had a few issues with service. We were the only table there at 6:00 on a Sunday night. While we were eating I saw a few people come in and get to go orders. The food is great for the most part , I got the Western burger. Everything seemed very fresh and  the fries are tasty. So really my main gripe is the lack of customer service.
About ten minutes after we got there I knocked over my lemonade. I was not surprised by this in the least bit. I should have all of my drinks half full and with a lid, I spill things often. I am like a five year old, anyway the lemonade is all over the floor and the server made us move. I found it a bit odd, I mean I made the mess I can clean it. I even asked for a rag to wipe up my mess. She shuffled us over to another seat and then forgot to refill my drink.
The server forgot our Mozzarella sticks app no big deal really. She delivered the Mozz sticks with the meal, when we bit into them there was no cheese in most of them. So essentially we were paying $6.00 for fried bread.
When she dropped the check I took out my trusty coupon book and had a coupon for a free meal. I gave it to her with our payment. She definitely seemed irritated and stated " next time, give me the coupon before I print the receipt"
I worked in the restaurant industry for year's know coupons can be irritating because some people tip on the discounted price and not he original total. Honestly it does not matter when people present their coupons, the discount will be given regardless of the timing. I thought she was a bit out of line saying anything.
Now I know why the place was empty... If I ever eat at Pete's again I will get food to go.

GREAT 10 things you might not know about Pete's Grill:

    1.  There beef is high grade organic grain fed.  They don't advertise this but it's true and it has the lower fat content.
    2.  They sometimes have organic eggs for breakfast that come from Pete's own back yard.  They are delicious!
    3.  Pete's grill has live music a few times a month.
    4.  There's a picture of Pete in his "pimp" outfit on the menu which is quite funny to me.
    5.  Not being a meat eater, their salads are good and green none of that iceburg crap.  Also the veggie burger is very good.
    6.  They have sweet potato fries now.  Also garlic parmigiana!
    7. This place is family friendly.
    8.  They deliver!
    9.  It's a very nice and mellow breakfast place on Sat and Sun only.
    10.  Happy Hour 4-7pm has great deals!

I've been here a couple times and really enjoyed each visit. Pete's Grill has a local feel to it and they seem to really care about their customers. Good selection of beers and wine available, with PBR on tap! If you're looking for a good time, get a pitcher of the bourbon beer. It is around 10% alcohol, has great flavor, and will get you drunk. You will probably find Pete himself behind the counter, Sofia pouring your drink, and Pete's dad coming in and out making food deliveries. Everybody is super nice which makes me jealous I didn't live closer.

They have a nice selection of beers but the food is not worth the money. It's actually pretty gross; at least the fried apps and the French dip were. And my friends had burgers and didn't really like them either. I would maybe just get beers and maybe fries if you end up here.

I've been going to Pete's now for almost a year...

Over that time I have transitioned from the Philly Cheese Steak and Fries (which is great by the way) and a hefty hoppy beer (There's plenty of on-tap beers from bud light to Stone IPA) to the Greek Salad with Grilled Chicken Breast and a Miller Lite in a bottle (If the 16 beers on tap are not enough, there's a huge selection of specialty bottle beers in the cooler).

It's awesome that I could go on this health kick to lose some weight and still get to frequent my favorite hang out!

To make the most of Pete's, come in a few times and get to know Pete, his great staff, and all the regulars - They'll make you feel at home and in no time at all you'll find that you've also become a regular.

P.S. The fish tacos are fantastic... So good I've altogether stopped going to my regular taco shop.

P.S.S Outside of the Beer and Wine (Did I mention they have a pretty good selection of wine?), they also have some pretty cool drinks that can help get the party started or put you over the top :-) Not that I would know...

P.S.S.S. (last one I promise) The chicken wings are also really good snack to consider once the beers start flowing. I went to Hooters a couple of weeks ago and I was totally disappointed... Pete's wings kick their...

I have to say that I used to order from here all the time and miss the old burgers. This place used to have good food at a reasonable price and somewhat decent service.  Now, the burgers are not as tasty, they cost a good 4 dollars more than they used to and the service over the phone is nonexistent.  Also, don't bother calling for delivery because they never have a driver even though they advertise delivery. A real bummer, because I work from home and enjoy having lunch delivered every now and again.  Don't mind so much that they don't do it but don't advertise it if you don't have it.

Also a big haha, I find it funny that one of the reviewers below completely responded to my review after I posted this.  Geez, I wonder who that is?  I can say for a fact that I have called both inside and outside delivery hours at this place in the last few weeks and have been denied in both instances with the answer of oh well.
    ---------
So here's an update, they have started actually delivering again.  The food still isn't as good as it used to be.  If you guys are reading this, the old burgers were better. :D  I gave you back a star.  I'll give you a try again in a few months and see what's up.  In addition, somebody must have been having a bad day the day I called.  This last time everyone was very nice.

Pete, the owner, has had every opportunity to make this place work. I have given him chances and suggestions, all of which he completely ignores. I mean, it's nice in there. There's definite potential. But hey, what do i know? The problem I have with Pete's is that they never get my order right, ever. First, when I order a BBQ chicken sandwich off the menu that includes chicken breast, cheddar cheese, onion rings, and BBQ sauce, and instead I get lettuce, tomato, no cheese, and sliced red onions, there is something VERY wrong. Pete, do you know what a BBQ chicken sandwich is? Don't advertise one thing and bring out another. This happened as well with the "breaded chicken strips" my wife ordered. Instead she receives PLAIN GRILLED CHICKEN strips, and no fries. We were both offended. Each experience has been similar. Usually they will forget a main item in our to go order or just botch what they were supposed to bring to the table. Also, the $12 Philly cheese steak couldn't pass for a meal in a middle school cafeteria. Besides that, the beer is cheap, and that's all I'm gonna give you Pete. I will never eat here again. Save yourself!

I had mad love for Pete's until tonight! My wife and I love their burgers. So, tonight we decided to order for delivery and we were stoked when the owner delivered!! Then he proceeded to tell us we no longer deliver to this area we are only do the other side of "Pt. Loma/ OB" the rich side. This is on a 38 dollar delivery order Really!! I love their families restaurants but that was really insulting and I live less than a mile away. It is literally a 5 minute drive if that!! Plus it is 12.75 for a dozen wings!! Pizza hut and everywhere else has cheaper wings that that and they were dry as leather!

Good place to get a quick bite to eat. They're located down the street from our gym, so it's quite convenient. I like the way they re-did the place too. My only suggestion is to maybe get AC in the summer. Sometimes fans in a restaurant don't always keep up with the heat coming from the grill. =)

This use to be PDQ and me and my wife would order from here on hangover Sundays. Been awail since we had ordered and decided to call up today seeing I still had the old menu for the place. Was informed that it was under new ownership only after trying to order 6 different things that they no longer had. Guy on phone was rude to start, had to repeat my order 4 times to this guy.

Next the delivery guy was as old as George Burns he apparently kept walking into the apartment complex next door to us trying to find our apartment. Calls me on phone rude as hell saying my apartment number doesn't exist. He's "looking at 4974 and there's no 4972" in the apartment complex.  I walk out and see him standing in front of the apartment complex to the right of ours. Guess it never occurred to this guy to walk one complex over and that when the front number of a complex starts with 4974 that the other might end with 4972. Comes over and is still rude to me since I guess I inconvienced him.

Finally got their 1/2 pound burger. Now on their menu it states "all burgers are 100% Angus beef". Not sure what mine was but it was THE WORST burger I've ever had. Tasted like cardboard and when I pulled the patty out I could fold the thing in half without it breaking. Was like rubber and the flavor was terrible. I actually only took 2 bites and threw it out. I can stomach most any food I order and never throw stuff away. This is the first time I can ever remember not eating something I paid for.

In general if you order a burger from this place expect a crap burger and rude service. Nothing like the old PDQ.

This place is all right for a quick burger, taco, or dog. Their prices are typical (5-13 bucks or so for a plate). Beer selection is solid with a lot of local brews and a 2-5pm $2 pint. The food isn't special, but it isn't bad and worth the stop for some post-surf grub.

One turn off about my experience here: an older gentleman who I presume is part owner or something was sitting in the shop watching a soccer game when a lady walked in and bolted for the bathroom. The old guy publicly berated her for using the restroom and not buying anything which is NOT COOL. Seriously, what the heck was she supposed to do? Pop a squat on the sidewalk? So Pete, tell the old man to be a little congenial to folks in the community next time. As for the other folks in the shop, they were all very willing and friendly to us and made no fuss about the lady.

There is nothing that upsets me more than poor service.  Mostly because I am really easy going when it comes to waiters/waitresses, I really don't expect much.  Went to Pete's for a second time last night and the best way I could describe the experience would be "neglected".  It was like he was asking us to never come back.  We waited a good 5 minutes before we got a menu, at least ten before our first table visit  (which only came after all 3 of us staring at the guy), he took two other beer orders, filled and delivered them before he took care of ours, our food was dropped on the table with the phrase "you know who ordered what", and finally took at least ten minutes after we finished to get our check (and we were making it obvious we were ready to go).  We were there almost 2 hours because everything took so long.  The odd thing was he was a nice, friendly guy, he just wasn't paying the least bit of attention to us. It was his face on the back of the menu, which tells me he is the owner, so his neglect was all the more bizarre. It wasn't very busy inside, he didn't seem to be overwhelmed, if that was the case I could deal with the service being slow.  He just didn't seem terribly interested in helping us.

The food was good though, my Hawaii Five-O sandwich was tasty, my lady's burger was good but the patty was a little dry, good fries but skip the onion rings (grocery store frozen style for sure).  The prices are good, good selection of beer at a fair price but I just don't think I can get over last night. It's a shame too because I want to like this place, I always like supporting a locally owned joint but horrid service for no good reason is inexcusable.

Just had a burger at petes. The good thing is that it tastes like a burger you would eat at home. It was juicy, seasoned and hot. The woman at the bar (Sophia I believe) explained the menu very well and suggested some very good choices.

Went to Pete's Grill and had a good time. Small place with PLENTY of beer and great food. Highly recommend for a good time.

Good, but nothing special. The service was adequate and the food was fine. I was a little shocked to find out on the bill that they charge an extra $2.50 for veggie burgers. I don't recall seeing that on the menu, but even if it is that kinda sucks. I probably won't be back just because of that. Worth a try though.

I experienced the worst customer service of my life at this place. We had a group of five of us, everyone except for me got their food after 30 minutes, none of their orders correct. We didn't get our appetizers. I got my food about 20 minutes after everyone was done eating. We got our appetizers after I finished eating. Our chicken fingers appetizer was still cold on the inside.

When we went to ask Pete about the wrong food orders and late food, before we could explain anything he told us to get out and don't come back. He refused to listen to what we had to say.

Don't ever go here. It's a waste of money, if you ever get your food.

We have tried this place 3 times now.  I love the decor.  It's cozy but classy.  The happy hour specials are good.  The food seems to be hit and miss.  I loved the caprese salad.  The mushroom burger was a bit dry and the mushrooms seemed to be out of a can.  The staff is friendly and I love to support locally owned businesses.  Too many chain restaurants these days.

I went to Pete's a couple months back and it was great. Fantastic food, great service and an awesome environment. I had the Don Corleone burger and the fried zucchini appetizer. I was truly impressed.

I went again last week expecting a similar experience and was hugely disappointed.

The service was friendly but clueless. She didn't bring us any silverware at first, we never got appetizer plates with our chicken wings or onion rings. I asked for water that never came.

The food was bad. The BBQ tri-tip sandwich was dry and almost inedible. The onion rings were kind of soggy. I felt like I had been served a bunch of frozen food from a grocery store :(

The Cole slaw did stand out. It was excellent, tangy flavor and nice crunchy cabbage.

We also ordered the chicken wings. They were really small so the server brought us a few extra. They were okay, but the sauce tasted like something out of a jar or mixed from a powder.

I think I will go back to Pete's again, and stick with the Don Corleone burger. Hopefully it will be delicious.

I was really bummed after my first encounter with the place as a great eatery.

I hope Pete gets it together!

I started going to Pete's in the last year or so to watch football, just because I let my wife talk me into ridding our house of a TV and Pete's is the closest non-bar place to watch games.  I had been in the past to PDQ's and never thought super highly of the place.  My first few times to Pete's brought mixed reviews.
The food is always great.  Pete, though, takes some warming up to.  He hardly smiles and isn't very attentive.  Not a big deal to most, but being a longtime OB guy, I like to support small businesses and always want them to be the perfect, friendly, Cheers kind of hang out.  Anyhow, as others have mentioned, Pete himself isn't the best service guy.  His waitress staff, on the other hand, is awesome!  My wife once forgot her purse and before we even noticed, one of the waitresses (might have been Pete's wife?) came to our house and delivered it!  My usual waitress (Sophia?) is super sweet and helps give the place the local feel that regulars appreciate.
Most of the complaints I've seen are about the delivery--which I don't care about--and some service issues.  Like I've said, Pete isn't the most personable guy, and he almost lost me forever when he refused to take a http://restaurant.com gift card (he called it selling his soul to the devil-but not my fault!)  But, the great quality food (amazing gringo burger, super delicious and cheap mahi tacos!) and nice beer and wine selection make this place the best local establishment in my book.  a good family place, a good place to watch football, great food and decent prices!  I really hope they are in for the long haul!

Do not waste your time. Better options close. Owner has an attitude waitress challenged and food not worth that.  Too many other better places to eat in the neighborhood that treat you properly.  Never again.

So after looking on yelp for reviews and reading the already posted ones, I decided to give Petes Grill a try.  I ordered delivery, and I asked if they were delivering when I called because of a previous post, and the man on the phone was very nice.  He answered questions about the menu and got my order in relatively quick.
I waited an hour and no food (I live close too, def not an hour!)
I called and the same man helped me again and when I asked what the status was he asked me if I could wait 15 more minutes, why not right??
THIRTY minutes later it finally arrives and the delivery guy gives me $4 off.  At this point I am starving and open the fries.  CRAP....basic fries that were cold and not even cooked.  There was not one fry that was warm, sad.  I cut the burger open and find CALAMARI instead of onion rings.
At this point I am wondering what the heck is going on! I call AGAIN and the same guy answers the phone.
I never like to complain, as I work in the industry and sometimes people like to complain just to complain.  He tried to get the manager on the phone and I heard him say, "can we call her back" and "what was wrong with it?" There was no attempt at all to try to make my horrible experience better.
Whats sad is that the owner is a run off family member of the people that own the Old Town House restaurant in OB.  Clearly this man needs to stay with those members of the family as they KNOW how to run a successful business.  I could have used some eggs and pancakes over the crap I was served tonight!

And to be clear, the one star is for the guy who helped me on the phone.
    DON'T GO TO THIS RESTAURANT!!!
