I started coming here because this is one of the few places I know of that carries corn-based cat litter.  If environmentally conscious litter doesn't float your boat, don't fret: they have shelves stocked full of premium litters, foods, and treats for your furred, feathered, or scaled friend.  They also have a huge selection of toys that might amuse you just as much as your animal companion.

They have a doggy day care centre in the back, although more often than not I find the room to be bare or only holding in one pup at a time.  I'm a big fan of their cat adoption centre, which features a handful of kitties from the SPCA that you can adopt.  It's hard to walk away from that window without the urge to bring another furball home, so it's no surprise that they've facilitated dozens of adoptions.

The staff has always been very nice, and know their stuff for the most part.  There's also lots of great sales, and if you sign up for their card program, you'll not only be in the loop to upcoming sales, but be privy to some cool discounts.

Overall, a great step above the pet aisle at the local grocery store.

Petcetera in Dartmouth Crossing was my very first stop for supplies when I got my first puppy. It was central, the selection covered absolutely everything, and I figured I wouldn't be paying boutique prices for things that my dog would either outgrow or destroy, or that I would have bought with silly first-time pet owner naivete that we didn't actually need.

I've only been back once or twice since, but that's mostly because so many new pet stores have opened up that are just more convenient. Petcetera is still fine in a pinch though - again, because they're big enough to have absolutely everything. Try to go in knowing what you need though because they aren't always well staffed. Once you find someone though, they're often quite good.

As for the dogy day care...well, it just makes me sad. Like Jen mentioned, there's rarely more than one dog in there and I've never seen anyone in there with him/her. That's not a doggy day care. That's a glorified crate. And there's a big difference.

Petcetera has a great selection of premium pet foods and supplies. They almost always have good deals on as well so keep an eye on flyers.

The only down fall I see with this store is that they take poor care of fish. There's almost always multiple dead fish in the tanks and fish seem to never have the proper labels/price tags.

I DO love that Petcetera has an adoption program with the local shelters rather than selling kittens or puppies.

The staff are knowledgeable and kind. Although some days I find it hard to get any assistance.

The great thing about petcetera is their constant sale items. I bought a tree for my cat reg.$279 for $60 -- that's just crazy!

Petcetera is a good stop for pet supplies in Dartmouth Crossing. They have a good selection of premium pet foods, cat and dog adoption services, and a good variety of small animals and fish.
As a cat owner, though, my favourite part has to be the self-serve cat litter. Buy a big bin, and get a dollar off every fill-up thereafter. Save money and packaging.
I only wish it were more accessible to bus routes, but that's Dartmouth Crossing, really.

I actually don't find that they have a very good selection of premium foods at all.  Lots of Iams, Science Diet and the like but not the better stuff.  Don't think I've ever had luck finding pet food here that I was looking for.  Did end up with a pet bed for my cat, once, though, which he loves.
