3 reviews for Periklis Greek Restaurant
All Reviews
As somebody who lived in Vancouver and dined at its fantastic Greek restaurants, I have incredibly high expectations for Greek food. Based on several five-star reviews, my wife and I decided to try our first Greek meal in Victoria here.
I enjoyed my spanakopita, my topipita (essentially, spanakopita consisting solely of feta and phyllo dough), and the hummus, it was just missing some of the flavor I've come to expect.
However, I found that the service was better than pretty much anywhere else we've dined in Victoria.
I do need to add this caveat - I am a (fairly recent) vegetarian and cannot fully judge the restaurant. They don't have a vegetarian moussaka on the menu and my new diet prevents me from eating lamb - the true watermark of the quality of a greek restaurant.
Pure YUM!!
My God, why only in Canada can one find outstanding Greek food?!?!?
From the looks outside, you'd never know what a treat was in store for you here at Periklis, the place is huge! Not located on the waterfront or in the trendy area of Victoria, you'll need to search a bit to hunt this place down, let me tell you, it's well worth it!!
With an hour and a half left before closing time on a Sunday, the restaurant was about 1/3 full. We were greeted with open arms and seated at a table with plenty of room, as Snake-girl, our youngest was 2 1/2 at the time, she needs her space you know...
Our meal started off with cocktails and some homemade bread, both were outstanding. My Gin and tonic, was mostly Gin, just the way I like it! And the bread was so fresh, the butter melted perfectly.
I enjoyed my lamb chops, cooked to perfection and nicely seasoned. The Mrs. had the fried calamari, it was extremely fresh, tender and the breading was very crisp and flavorful. The Skordalia, http://www.foodnetwork... , that was served along with the calamari, was true to form, very garlicky, but not hot/bitter as some can be.
The entire meal was dreamy, I'd walk barefoot over broken glass to eat here... OOOOOOOOOOOPA!!
