Peller is one of the grander wineries in the area with a fancy building that houses the tasting room and a restaurant. I got 3 tastings for $7 and nothing really appealed to me but I liked how the guy tried to educate us on how different red wines taste if poured through an aerator.

I stopped here after coming back from the Niagara on the Lake shops for a few tastings and a bottle of wine.
We had about 3 or 4 tastings a person (five in the group). The gentleman hosting my crew's tastings was very informative, swift, and a little conversational. He explained how the doodad he used while pouring the reds oxygenated the wine like a decanter, just faster for the sample.
We didn't take the tour or eat in the restaurant but the lobby is very nice; with comfortable couches for waiting and very, very nice restrooms.
I ended up with a bottle of the riesling and am exciting to try the whole kit and caboodle at home! -

Stopped in Pellar as part of a tour back in late April of this year. I found the facility to be quite nice and we had pretty good service even though the gal was busy (but she didn't seem as passionate about the wine as other places we visited). They have lots to offer inside the shop as it is larger than the other wineries we visited in the region.
We tried a couple reds and whites and I apologize for not remembering many details about them, but I enjoyed them all with nothing standing out as bland or anything like that. This was the first time I tried a Muscat wine, which I quite enjoyed. It was light, crisp, and quite refreshing - I bought a bottle that went great after a sushi meal.
Since we visited in April, we really didn't get the full beauty of the place but it was a nice stop on our way that introduced me to a new wine. Give it a try if you're passing by!Listed in: Vino Vino I Love You

I am fan.
This was the first stop on my winery van tour. However, I didn't take the time to mark down the wines. But I remember trying a muscat, late harvest, bubble, and red. Each one was very good. I hope to go back. This was a beautiful winery and sold very good quality wine. If someone goes back within September 2011, can someone email me the wine tasting list for the above tasting? -

Came here for the icewine festival. The people were super friendly, considering they were outdoors in the freezing weather all day. The setting was spectacular! They accompanied their ice wine with large marshmallows to be roasted. I loved every second of it!!

Stopped into Peller after Jackson Triggs. Found out the tour here was $5 more expensive than at JT. Not that big a deal so we signed up for the $10 tour. We took some time to relax in their beautiful lobby/living room until the tour began.
The tour was small (6 people) and our guide was young and friendly. Certainly willing to answer any questions and honest about some things that she didn't know about. We went into the vineyard and learned about the Ice Wine process and the rose bushes. Then headed to the cellar to learn about the barrels and to taste some wines. It was nice to get out of the heat and be away from the crowds for the tasting but there must be a private room down there because a group was being REALLY loud and that interrupted our tour guide a few times.
The shop was extensive and I left with a Muscat wine, a nice Peller wine opener, and some gifts for friends.
It does seem like Peller is a bit more commercialized than many of the other wineries in NOTL. Nonetheless, it is beautiful and the people were very friendly. -

Great Ice Wines - Employee Kevin made our day!
Me and the hubby were in NOTL for a wine tasting weekend. We stopped here cause from the road the place looks like a stunning French chateau. We came after 3pm - on a overcast day. Not a lot of people there for a Saturday- so we got a lot of attention from a staff member named Kevin.
This gent was VERY knowledgeable and discussed in depth methods of how their ice wines were produced. Now, the hubby and I are pro wine tasters - we've been tasting all over the USA but I have to say we felt like we were having a private tour and tasting!
Loved all the ice wines and made purchases!
Ask for Kevin - he'll make your experience personal and interesting! -

I came here for the Ice Wine festival. I'm not usually a fan of the sweet wines, but I'm sold on the Ice Wine---maybe because the alcohol content is a bit higher than most other sweet wines.
The festival consisted of roasting marshmallows over on open fire while sipping ice wine and chatting with the local winemakers. It was a very satisfying and educational experience---although they should have used real glasses instead of plastic ones. -

In the land of small wineries, Peller Estates sticks out as the over-commercialization of wine in the style of Francis Ford Coppola's Disneyland of Wine in Napa Valley.
It's very faux-french modern (as opposed to Jackson-Triggs or Stratus cool-modern) and busy and hustle and bustle with actual Cashiers, and not just some lady ringing you up after she pours you your tastes.
Is pretty outdoors. I've heard that I'm supposed to dine here (because I love to eat and drink), but I've not had a chance to experience the resto. -

Went here mid-September. The weather was great which made the drive excellent. wind in our hair, good music....wine!
Took the "tour" - which was worth it. I learned interesting facts, got to walk around the grounds, participated in tastings, went into their cellar, took awesome pix.
Their staff is friendly and knowledgeable. And, they make excellent wine... go figure!Listed in: places i LOVE

Nestled in Niagara wine country, the Peller Estates is about 1/2 an hour drive from the Falls on the Canadian side. It is one of the largest wineries in the area & they provide tours daily. It was $5/person for the 45 minute tour & we got to try 3 different wines (red, white, icewine).
Before I went to this winery, I knew pretty much nothing about wine. Our tour guide told us all about the history of the estate & their process of making wine. Perhaps the most interesting part (besides trying the wine itself) was the process of how ice wine is made. Apparently Niagara is a leader in thisvery concentrated, very expensive wine. -

I dined at the restaurant with my fiance over the weekend. We went all out and got the tasting menu with the wine pairing. Food and service was superb - as expected with the $115 price tag. They came out and explained every dish in detail, and our glasses were never empty. The only disappointment was the dessert. It was a playful mix that was essentially a mini drumstick (think the kind you buy in your supermarket freezer), caramel popcorn, and a skor bar. Yummy but for that price tag, i expected a bit more than i what i buy from shopper's.

Staff don't know much about the wine available.
If you want to find a nice winery where you can really learn about the product and have a pleasant experience at the counter, try somewhere else.
On the plus side, they are open a little later than the other wineries in the area. -

Peller is definitely one of the biggest wineries in Niagara--there's even a shuttlebus for the Shaw crowd. Tours here would likely give you the best bang-buck ratio. They have a pretty comprehensive tasting bar, and the wines are good, although none of them really stand out for me (but I'm not much of a wine nut).
What stands out for me, though, is Peller's comprehensive gift shop/wine supplies store. Just the enormous variety of excellent and, shall we say, more ornamental corkscrews is impressive. I picked up a Pulltap corkscrew (I swear by 'em) here after having trouble finding one elsewhere--most waiters' corkscrews on the market are crap. -

We enjoyed the wine, the place, the service and food so much that we become wine club members of Peller. I enjoy Canadian wines, particularly reds, as much or more than European or Australian comparable varieties.
We stopped by Peller for the IceWine Festival on Jan 23. The weather was incredibly warm and sunny for this time of year. We enjoyed (and I mean really ENJOYed) the ice-wine soaked marshmallows that we toasted over open fire pits... mmmmm.. -

Compared to the other wineries on our very limited tour of the area (we only had time for four), this one reminded me most of the adult Disneyland of Napa. It didn't have the same sort of character as the smaller places, and I didn't like the white wines as much, but we got a great sparkling rose and tried some good icewines.

This winery has an excellent gourmet restaurant, nice surroundings, and some good wines. We tried the restaurant and had a great meal with fabulous food, service, views, and of course wines. Try the Cuvee - Ice wine champagne style.

Go for lunch, not dinner.
We've eaten dinner at the Peller half a dozen times over as many years. The food is good, but it is without a doubt not worth the price. We'll return, but only for lunch.
The atmosphere of the Peller has changed over the time period, it doesn't take itself so seriously, which is a welcomed change.
Cynthia was a wonderful server on our most recent visit, friendly and helpful. I had the 4 course tasting menu - two of the items were directly from the menu. While she said that the tasting menu sometimes includes a regular menu item, I certainly didn't expect half to be from the regular menu. Had I known, I would have just ordered from the menu directly. The food was good, not great. It's been over a month since our last visit, and the only memorable dish was the lobster ravioli - yum! -

My husband and I had the 7-course surprise wine pairing menu by Jason. First of all, it was way more than 7 courses. We left very satisfied. Also be prepared to taste 7+ wines, which may leave you a little tipsy. Each dish was artfully prepared to fit perfectly with each wine. Jason uses ice wine reductions for many of the dishes which worked out deliciously. Our favorite was the seared duck breast, absolutely decadent! The only reason for the 4 stars was the pricing, get ready to pay a pretty penny for this great meal! $$$

So, dinner at Peller Estates is one of those things that you're supposed to do if you're a foodie and a wino visiting the area. While I love the pomp and circumstance of fine dining once in a while, I really dislike the price tag that invariably accompanies it. I'm much more of a bistro person. Having said that, though, I'm glad we were able to experience what is probably one of the 2 most popular winery restaurants in the region (the other being Hillebrand). And since we met two of our good friends there (residents of London ON), it made it even better! As expected, the service was impeccable and the dining room was well appointed, traditional and elegant. Rather than going with the 4-course tasting menu, we opted to order a bottle of wine and order from the a la carte menu. The Peller Estates Reserve Merlot was a delicious choice as it went well with the various entrees that the 4 of us ordered. The ice-wine poached lobster linguine was probably my favorite. It was on the Interludes menu and I had it as an appetizer. I would have been happy to stop there, but how could I turn down the lobster-crusted beef short ribs on the entree menu? The meat was insanely tender, topped with a sort of lobster thermidor stuffing that was nicely browned and carmelized. The only gripe I would have had was that it was a little salty and not served quite hot enough for me. We finished our meal with a bottle of Peller's Vidal Ice Wine, which was a perfect dessert. I think the best part of the evening was having time to catch up with good friends in the comfort and luxury of that dining room. Would I go back for dinner? Probably not. Not unless our friends wanted to meet there again.
