Review from Lara P.
I had the great luck to book the lunch series "An Afternoon with chef Jason Parsons" where we had 4 course lunch with wine pairing. It was a delightful experience because we felt like VIP guests of the chef with access to the kitchen and with him sharing his love for sourcing the food and everything food related. Our sommelier was knowledgeable and very accommodating. I could not help looking into the kitchen and making a beeline for the pastry chef. They are all very friendly and open to any enquiries you may have about food or their background. This is a wonderful event that included delicious food. We had a great salad course followed by a luscious lamb sirloin and lamb sausage with gnocchi entree. The sausages were outstanding and very flavourful. They even gave us a treat to take home. What a wonderful visit!
You are probably wondering why I did not give it a 5 stars after such a stellar experience. The reason is that the wine at Peller is quite awful. Truly I wanted to enjoy it but it is so below grade that it took away from the food experience. I am not a wine connoisseur by any means, but I have drank enough wine from different places and establishments to know what is good and the wines that we were served were just not very good. It is just too bad really because they have a great restaurant and staff that should have better wine to work with. -

This is my first visit to the restaurant. What a pleasant surprise. Interior is stylish. Food is excellent. I had the Heritage Beef Ribeye. Perfection is the word. Suggested wine pairing was also good. Can't wait to visit again.

This winery was the first stop off in my Niagara adventure this past weekend. We biked to the winery and I was in awe, the scenary is so goregous! The location is almost magestic.
The sampling area is beautifully done done, with the circluar counter right in the middle of the room. My friend and I wanted to try two wines and our wine expert went into detail of what we were drinking. When we asked to pay, he said it is on the house! Quelle service.
They also have a beautiful dining area. I would love to come back and experience their restaurant. I found out that they have tasting menus!
This place is a must visit.
*Note: You will notice their wine samples are more on the pricer side than the other wineries, about $3 per sample vs. $1 to $2 at others. They do have some good sample combos for 3 wines for $7.Listed in: Niagara Area, Vino! Wineries!

I recently did a tour of the winery and had dinner in one of the private rooms (Peller Family Dining Room) with a group of 16. The dining room is a very nice setting - one long table with a view of the vineyard outside through a set of doors (they do open but they do not stay open by themselves, so no al fresco dining).
The food was decent, as in it was nicely presented and tasted good, but I found it a bit expensive for the price. There was nothing overly creative about the dishes or anything. We had the limited a la carte menu for $62 with a choice of three dishes per three courses. I was with a friend who had been there about a year prior, and she said that the menu hadn't changed significantly if at all, which was kind of disappointing. I had a smoked salmon appetizer with pulled cheese curds to start which was nicely presented but the salmon tasted fishy (more than normal) and the cheese was really salty. My main was capon with dandelion dumplings which was delicious and tender. The dessert was a berry cheesecake which was also delicious.
We didn't do a wine pairing, instead we ordered a few bottles. The bottles ranged from around $30 and up, as expected at a winery.
The service was good, we never had to look around for our server as he was there at all the right times. One of my friends wanted a sangria which wasn't on the menu so he told her he'd check with the bar what they could do and came back with a really nice berry sangria.
Because we had reserved for a special occasion (a birthday) the menus were customized to include a birthday message, which was a really nice touch. -

A beautiful restaurant and view at Peller Estates Winery. The staff are very professional and attentive. Presentation of the food, wine, table settings, etc. was perfect.
Unfortunately, the food and wine did not match the high level of service and attention to detail. We had the 5-course prix fixed menu with wine pairing ($120 per person). Each step was presented perfectly with the perfect wine-pairing. On their own, though, each course was not quite balanced. Seemed like there was always too much of one thing (flavors, textures, etc.) and not enough of something else to give it balance. Other times it seemed too naked. This is for both the courses (food), as well as the wine.
Credit to the staff, though, for pairing the right wine with each course. The pairings were perfect, but each (food or wine) could not standalone. Of course, this is a winery, so the food is designed with the wine in mind. Unfortunately, if we had not gotten the wine pairings, then it would've been a struggle to get through the meal. -

Last year I would have given this place five stars, but for some reason this year they moved to a "brunch" menu on both Saturday and Sunday at their restaurant for lunch. What gives? Seems lazy to me. The quality of the food seems to have gone downhill as well.
It is price fixed at $47 per person with the option of a $25 wine paring for each course. We have eaten here many times in the past, so we went all in. The service was professional as always and the setting is second to none in the area.
The food was just so-so this go round. My app was very good, but it is hard to screw up heirloom tomatoes this time of year. My wife's soup was really exquisite. For the main dishes, my sandwich was WAY overcooked, dry and just not delicious. The pasta dish my wife ordered was missing the feta, a prime ingredient in the dish. Again, what gives?
The desserts were blah. They give you three desserts which are all cake based. They come in cupcake paper and no silverware. The first is a chocolate cake with caramel- it was good, but tasted like it was from a box. The second was a berry mousse- how the heck do you eat this without silverware? The third tasted like dried apricot compote on white cake. It was really not great.
Although better than Hillebrand, unless you are itching to spend a bundle, try some other out of the way places like Creekside. This place might still be great for dinner though- just seems lame that they have brunch on Saturday- particularly when we had reso's at 2:00PM.Listed in: Niagara on the Lake

My husband and I celebrated my birthday today at Peller Estates with the Tasting Experience called "An Afternoon with Jason" and all I can say is WOW! It was above and beyond our expectations and I highly recommend it.
Here's why:
- Amazing service. Our server Lu Anne was gracious, warm, funny and generous. I was happy to give her a generous tip. She even helped us get some flourless chocolate cake that wasn't on the menu just because she thought it was so good! Even when she asked us if we wanted to join the wine club or buy the chef's new cookbook, it was a soft sell and I didn't feel pressured.
- Above and beyond on access to the chefs and kitchen. We were welcomed into the kitchen with a glass of sparkling wine and told that the door was open and we could come and go as we pleased. We were able to go and wander around the kitchen between courses, asking questions of the chefs, looking at the food, and even being offered some tastes. It was awesome to be able to see behind the scenes of a working kitchen.
- Wine. We were given a pairing with each course, and I was blown away at the generous portions (ie. "Have another glass, I'll just open a new bottle.") The wine was wonderful, and it was great to see them feature their delicious ice wines.
- THE. FOOD. WAS. INCREDIBLE. Clearly a lot of thought and energy goes into each aspect of the chef's menus. From in-house smoked salmon to house-churned butter to home-made bread to local farm apples used in the dessert, each course was amazing. The chef came out to explain each course to us and answer our questions - and not just a brief sentence, but a good 10 minutes of chatting each time. He was very open, and his commitment to quality and local products showed.
We were there for over 3 hours, and I enjoyed every minute. I can't believe this experience only cost $65/person! I really can't recommend it enough. So get thee to Niagara-on-the-Lake and enjoy a fabulous afternoon with the chef at Peller Estates.
If you're interested, here's the menu we had today:
- Arugula and frisee salad with in-house smoked salmon, goat cheese, candied beets and a house-made vinaigrette. (BTW, the wood they use to smoke their salmon is dried vines!) - paired with Signature series chardonnay
- Cauliflower and celeriac soup with bacon, brussel sprout chiffonade and oil drizzle - paired with Ice Cuvee
- AAA Canadian strip loin steak with grilled rosemary and truffle bread and sweet potato, chestnut and tomato ratatouille - paired with Signature Series merlot
- Apple Toffee cake with vanilla ice cream, ice wine toffee drizzle and roasted local apples - served with Riesling ice wine
- Tea and coffee, and also a tasting of the Cabernet franc Ice wine -

Top rated place. Simply did not live up to its reputation the night we were there.
This is the restaurant with the number one reputation in the Niagara on the Lake area. It's in a beautiful setting, the outdoor seating was exquisite, the service was very good.
We had the tasting menu, highly touted and quite expensive, with the wine pairing. The wine pairing was very very nice. But the test of the tasting, and the restaurant, is in the food.
That said, how disappointing and what an uninspired tasting menu! The Boar entree was superb, but nothing else lived up to it. The amuse bouche oyster was nice, not spectacular. The vegetable consomme was bland and disappointing. The trout terrine was good. among the better parts of the meal. The dessert (an ice cream sandwich!) was ok but also unremarkable.
The wines were great.
This wasn't anywhere nearly as good as two other restaurants in the area ... AG (in Niagara Falls, near the actual falls), and the Stone Road Grill. Its distinction was the setting (beautiful indeed!) and the price (high indeed!) -

While I would not consider myself a foodie / wine snob I have been reluctant to endorse the Niagara wine region over the years. Perhaps this comes after having spent time down in Napa and Europe. I've been wrong. Over the years, the Niagara region has been building a world class reputation for its white wines and Pinots and the area has been moving up the ladder as well when it comes to the dining fare. Having just returned from California a few months ago, the memory of my recent dining experience was fresh in my head for comparisons and the Peller Estate Winery Restaurant did not disappoint. The setting is picturesque overlooking their vineyards on a large outside patio. We took in the 5-course tasting menu which was paired with various wines from this winery. Without question - the experience was superb. Appetizers were portioned and subtle to build the appetite and the main of seared steak was a sunburst of flavour in compact slices. Beyond that, service was strong with the exception of later in the evening when things got busier but other than that, it's a good "local" option. +ives: food, setting; -ives: a bit on the pricey side.

This is one of the nicest winery restaurants in the Niagra region. Scenery is fantastic. The dinner is very good. The chef will give you these free special plates between each of your courses, a nice surprising experience. The service is execelent, the server will explain everything on your dish and on the menu. Very romantic if you bring your date there!
