    Eight. Dollar. Manicures.

Yep. They've got my colours, they've got some snippers and they've got the price.

Since I've moved to the neighbourhood, there's never been more than three ladies working, and I ALWAYS have to wait at least 15 minutes. But I just take a little walk to The Sweet Potato (a mere 57 seconds away), then come back with a bag full of kale, and fingernails ready to be womanhandled.

The jobs are efficient and quite well executed (in my experience). I've never had a pedi in their care, so can't speak to that. But I must say - after 2 months of regular manis, my nails look fierce. I mean, it could be the kale (SHOUT OUT TO KALE), but it could be the Pearl. I like to think it's a little bit of both.

After the summer, half of the staff is gone and, with them, the good service I was used to.

Kim is working mostly by herself - with one or two new girls - and tries hard, but it's almost impossible to maintain a salon alone. You can see she's always tired, and the girls are not as experienced as her, and it doesn't matter if you arrive later or early, it will take you a long, long time to get your nails done.

The new girl who did my nails today was obviously inexperienced and near sighted, and this is the reason why I arrived there around 9am and left at noon - for a simple mani & pedi.

I doubt if I'm coming back soon. It was too much. I'm sad because I like Kim. But I think she can hire a better staff.

Wahh! It turns out Lily has "gone back to school" permanently and no longer works at Pearl Nails. I was devastated to learn this news. How could the perfect nail esthetician leave me like that!? Anyway, enter My to the rescue.

She'll now be my go-to girl for a perfect ten. My hand massage was out of this world (fell asleep immediately) and her application was flawless (no cleanup required).

Altho I wanted to give this place 5 or 4 stars, "A-OK" described my mani and leg wax here a week after the fact.

But first thing's first - the price just can't be beat - and that will have me coming back anytime I'm in the area.  $8 for a mani, and $30 for a full leg wax.  That is complete awesomeness.

The problem with the great price is that it attracts all kinds into the salon.  Specifically, I am referring to pre-teens.  I spent about 30 minutes listening to pre-teen chatter while they got neon polishes painted on their precious little fingers.  Who knew you could allot so much time to talking about who your favourite Harry Potter character is?  Seriously, I am going to start carrying around ear plugs for situations like this.

The owner Kim appeared to do a meticulous job waxing my legs for me.  She paid very close attention and really I was quite pleased.  Not really painful either.  Within the week I noticed all the spots and random hairs that she missed - boo.

For my nails I had two different people work on them - overall, an excellent mani for the price.  The two point deduction comes from 3 things:
    1) She got cuticle removing happy and for the first time ever I had my cuticle bleeding all over the place (and as a side note, right before someone had a bloody foot...ick)
    2) The nail polish was put on rather thick, and the top coat unevenly - so upon closer examination I could see spots where the top coat was missing
    3) It chipped stupid fast, and not from over-use which is my normal chipping culprit.  Boo.

In the end the price is just too good to pass up, and the other reviewers had better luck - definitely worth a try!

I've been to Pearl quite a few times now since summer for a variety of services (mani, pedi, waxing)
I had manicure done by all of the girls (Lily, Jenny, My, and Kim (the owner)), and Jenny is my favourite by far. She uses an interesting cuticle removing technique where she cleans it twice. It sounds weird but it works wonders, and Jenny is the only one who doesn't make my cuticles look like a mess a few days later.
I can't really compare their waxing services to any other salon but I think it was worth the money ($10 for underarms, $15 for half-arm & $15 for half-leg, if I remember correctly).
Jenny also does facial threading, but it's not advertised, so just ask.

So i went here again for a mani pedi. I had an appointment at 6, but they were super busy and didn't get to me till 6.35, that too because i said i had to be somewhere else at 8.
The pedicure was alright. The exfoliation wasnt very thorough, but the cuticle work and application of nailpolish was perfect. A good price for quick touchups and upkeep, but definitely not somewhere you go for your begining of sandal season pedicure.
The manicure was a different story altogether. I have 3 bloody cuticles because the nail technician went too nipper-happy on me. She apologized profusely and genuinely looked really sorry, I almost felt bad for her despite the hurting fingers. She cleaned up with alcohol swabs and had some antiseptic solution.
I'm really dissapointed that my hands look worse than what I went in with for a wedding I'm supposed to attend this weekend. I'd give this place another chance, but make sure i stick to Lily and not the cuticle-nipper happy ladies. :(
