This is such a great little neighborhood restaurant! Especially good on a cold day. You get to choose from a selection of hot pot items, I really like the Special Vegetarian or seafood one and the boys like the brisket selection. You get your own side of veggies, vermicelli or udon noodles, a drink and a desert. There are also many side order selections that you can add, but I find I can barely finish my order! You also get an egg to cook at the end too. Its a great healthy meal.

Definitely worth the trip to Vancouver!  Visiting from Los Angeles, I expected nothing less from Pearl Hot Pot!  I love how the meal comes with your choice of a drink (plum juice, wintermelon, fruit tea, red tea) and ice cream (green tea or vanilla).  The vegetables were abundant and the sa-cha that they mix for you is the right amount of spicy & savory.

The only thing that they might need to improve on is making sure that their ice cream machine is stocked...they ran out of green tea and their vanilla was def. not vanilla...it was more like disgusting milk.

Pearl Hot Pot does individual tabletop hotpots for diners. Their "main pot" (haha) options are varied and plentiful. There's salmon head pot, multiple mushroom pot, bacon pot, special vegetarian pot, etc.

The "main pots" are really reasonably priced for the quantity and quality of food. My bacon pot was $12.95 and came with a plate of veggies, tofu and meatballs, a plate of bacon (not really bacon, just thin-sliced shabu-shabu style fatty pork), a choice of rice, bean threat vermicelli or udon, AND a grape slushee. There's enough there to feed two, though there is a one pot per person policy.

Check it out on a cold and dreary winter's night. It's nothing fancy, but it will warm you up.

So, if I screw up cooking the food is it my fault or theirs?  How can you screw up, it's hotpot! IT'S ALWAYS GOOD!

Individual hotpot, veggies, noodles, couple of different meat balls, tofu, and and egg in a strange coil holder.  Meal also includes a drink and some ice cream in the end.  Never had hotpot with ice cream after!  Green tea ice cream ftw! :)

Luckily whenever I come here it's always slow and I get pretty good service.  The server was nice and was quick to turn the fire down before it boiled over everywhere.

They only sit you at a table if you are a party of 3-4 even if they slow.  I felt like a hotpot alcoholic sitting at the bar with my friend.

Oh, almost forgot to mention.... it's a hotpot place.  Please dress appropriately.  New sweater turns to smelly sweater :)

Geez.. I can feel the WINTER around me already!! and you know wut's perfect to eat during the weather like this?? HOT POT!!!!!!!!!!!!

However, with all the viruses, flu and H1N1 threat floating in the air (perhaps within the person next to u as well), you'd want to avoid sharing food with people .......but having hot pot is alllllllllllll about sharing!!! OH NO!
**************** Not to worry, people, Pearl Hot Pot solves your problem! ****************

I love the idea of having a mini hot pot for urself since everyone has his/her own favorite taste. This way is easier for someone like me who doesn't like spicy food and doesn't use any extra sauce for the food that is already got enough of flavor to it. I'm not a hot pot person cuz i don't like to spend a long time waiting for my food to get cooler. It is almost a torture cuz I'd be staring at the food thinking, "I can see the juicy food, I can smell the tasty food, but I CANNOT TOUCH THE FRIGGIN FOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!" You know how hard that is when you're hungry?? That's why I usually burned my tongue a couple times whenever I have hot pot..

If you checked out the pix I've uploaded, u'd find it pretty straight forward wut it's like to eat there. I was a bit overwhelmed with all the text on the menu @_@  I've spent almost 15 minutes figuring out where I should be looking and how to order...  Too many selections/options was part of the reason, too.

I gave it 3 stars because I believe they're overpriced. The price range for the menu picture I've uploaded should be $8-13 instead of $13-26. I don't think it's worth my $15 and I don't feel comfortable inviting my friends there because I'd feel bad for making them pay that much just so we could have a hot pot or meal together. Other than that, I had a good time there.

shabu shabu the way into my belly!

sure the wait is long, the place needs new ventilation, and you smell like hot pot after (see korean bbq), but where else can you get fresh food, free ice cream and drinks (fruit, black, milk teas and plum juice-refills included) at a minimal cost? dumplings are made in house, meats and vegetables are fresh.  servers are friendly, but be prepared to wait as this place is understaffed, even at peak times.

Normally, I prefer hot pot at home...way more fun and the food is better..but I couldnt say no to an outting with friends =)

The place isn't very big so it seems to always be packed.
I enjoyed the Special Chicken hot pot i got with normal sauce and soup base.  It comes with veggies, marinated chicken pieces, a raw egg, ice cream (i got green tea) and a drink (i got fruit tea)

Its kinda cool that you get your own little pot to cook your own items in.  Never done that before for hot pot!  kinda loses the intimacy of this dinner style

the food tasted fresh...good quality as well!  Ice cream was a total fail..but i ate it anyway. i loved the fruit tea i got...yum! i tasted the plum tea my friend got...sourly yummy too!  servers are friendly..but a little bit slow.

It's good here, but nothing to write home about.

Maybe I'm just a hot pot novice and don't know what I"m talking about? But you basically pay about $15 and you get your own little pot. Comes with a good amount of meat, veggies, and an egg, and some other stuff. Love the egg!

    yum yum yum individual pots.

anyone who likes spice, get the extra spicy soup pot, it'll melt your tongue and give your nose a sweaty work out.

best time to go is on a rainy gloomy day, a hot soup will be very comforting

This is a Japanese style Hot Pot restaurant.  If you enjoy cooking your own meats, vegetables, and seafood in a hot pot, this is the place for you. You will get a big pot and you will given plates of raw meats, vegetables,  seafood,  eggs, etc.  You will throw in the raw items in the bowl which is filled with soup stock.  Some of the sauces aren't the best - very salty and greasy.  You'll seat in a bar type environment on a stool and the table has a row of stoves. I ask myself? Why should I eat here when I can do the exact thing at home.  The meats are very filling and you will become fill very quickly. Finishing the rest of the vegetables was difficult for me.  Well, who likes eating soggy boiled vegetables in a restaurant?

I found this place through a Taiwanese friend of mine back in 2002. I have been an avid customer since. There are other hot pot places in town , especially the all-you-can-eat types, but I faithfully visit Pearl Hot Pot for three reasons: 1) Quality, 2) Service, 3) Secret dipping sauce. I don't know what it is, but their dipping sauce blows all other hot pot places out of water.

Pearl Hot Pot is closed on Wednesdays, I believe, so make sure you call them to check if you are planning on stopping by on Wednesday. Also, they give you 10% discount if you visit during the weekdays. This is one of the most popular hot pot places in town, so if you are going for dinner, best to make a reservation, especially for dinner. Make sure you show up on time, as if you don't, they will relinquish your reservation pronto!

The best hot pot in the Lower Mainland!!!!

Wow!  I was very surprised.  The flavour, variety and the ice cream.  A bit of a shanty, but fresh, tasty ingredients and hot pot soup flavours to your liking.  Goes great with beer.  I liked the spicy soup,  but it's all good.  We all got a fresh egg which I cracked and put the yolk in the dipping sauce and then put the whites in the hot pot.  I ordered the tripe for something adventurous,  they ordered the pork or the beef.  Comes with veggies and assortment of goodies.  You get a choice of plum juice ( required taste ) or orange juice and ice cream cone.  I'll definitely be coming back.
