I was excited to find Peace Pies at the Farmers Market in Little Italy while visiting San Diego, as they were on my list of places to eat. We got to the Farmers Market a little late, so they were at the end of their food. Luckily, they had one raw falafel left! Marshall, the gentleman running Peace Pies at the farmers market caught on to my excitement all too quickly.

I told him that I was visiting from NYC and had found them before even coming out here and was hoping to have the chance to dine with them. For that, Marshall hooked me up with the falafel for the hefty price of $7 rather than the going rate of $8. For 5 raw falafel balls I didn't think that was too bad. It was served with a dill sauce along with a cashew hummus. The falafel, since it was raw was very nut based, so it had multiple nutty flavors to it. The falafel was made up of almonds, cilantro, parsley, shallot, lemon, tahini, olive oil, cumin, salt, garlic, agave, jalapeno, onion, black pepper, coriander, sprouted peas, lentils and fenugreek! Talk about flavor!! I'm not sure how they got the falafel to hold together so well but they did it! The cashew hummus was amazing along with the dill sauce which gave the falafel a different twist. My goal is now to find raw falafel here in NYC!

Since Sara is on a Raw Food Diet this week, we came to one of the only 2 eateries that serve raw food in San Diego.  Peace Pies is a cute little establishment that serves raw, organic, gluten-free, soy-free food.  We ordered a Sandwich with Mock Tuna with Crispy Kale, the Zucchini String Pasta, Freshly Squeezed Blood Orange Juice, and Strawberry Cheesecake-like dessert.  I cannot tell if the food was objectively good or just delicious for raw vegan food.   The sandwich was interesting: the crunch from the nut-cracker-"bread" and the freshness of the Cucumber were my favorite parts.  The mock tuna with my eyes closed almost tasted like real tuna salad.  The kale chips were really well seasoned and crispy.  The pasta tasted like raw food but was not bad.  The dessert was again good for being not heated over 100 degrees.

    List: Veggie Adventures.

What a great oasis! We almost missed finding this place on our day adventure to Ocean Beach via bus from San Diego. It's a bright little gem! I split a mock tuna wrapped in a collard green with my husband. Totally scrumptious! We both had a walnut burger topped with cashew cheese, lettuce, tomato and flatbread. It was simple, fresh and satisfying. It's amazing how great raw food makes you feel. It leaves you with a comfortable full feeling that gives you plenty of energy until your next meal. We had the strawberry cream pie to cap off our wonderful meal. It was rich in flavor and creamy in texture. Loved it! Everything on the menu is organic, raw and vegan. I can't imagine visiting the area gain and not stopping in for a bite. I only wish it were closer to Maine. It's also worth mentioning that the staff was friendly and helpful. They asked if we had questions and explained things with ease. What a great place!

I am a newbie vegan and was trying to find good vegan restaurants here on Yelp and was excited to try this place. My BF and I were at the Little Italy Farmers Market so we stopped to try some of the offerings. We got a slice of pizza which was super tiny, a "cheesy zucchini noodle salad" and 2 cinnamon rolls. My BF's reaction, "disgusting!" And he is a pescatarian so he is mostly vegetarian. I do not think that the food was disgusting but it certainly was not good. Even the cinnamon rolls were not great. They are heavy, nutty, and almost have the texture of marzipan. I only had a couple of bites and tossed it. Disappointed that we wasted the money because this place is not cheap at all. We paid 15.00! I am not sure if we ate the wrong thing or what but we will not eat at Peace Pies again.

I an not a raw vegan but I love their food. Their food has more flavor than some other Vegan/vegetarian places I have been to. I went to the one in Encinitas. It was such a cool place. A tad hard to find but the service was great and so was the atmosphere. I ordered the raw sandwich with a side of kale chips. Yum. . It was delicious. I always visit them when I go to the farmers markets. Cool people with healthy great tasting food. Love you guys. Only two suggestions. Jazz up the front of your OB place it looks really plain. And increase your serving of kale chips.....I only got 4 scrawny chips.....

    Duh, winning!

(Have we played out the Charlie Sheen references yet?)

I am so obsessed with the following Peace Pies offerings:

    --Kale salad
--Noodle-y thing with zucchini in it
--Whichever sandwich it is they serve on the flat "bread" with sprouts, mixed greens, cucumber, tomatoes, etc.

Peace Pies offers some of the best-tasting healthy food you can buy in San Diego, without the holier-than-thou attitude of Whole Foods or the blissed-out-stoner vibe of Jiyoti Bihanga. Service is pleasant; everyone is helpful and patient, which I imagine it would be hard to be after answering the same questions over and over again. ("What's in this? What's mock tuna? Is it cooked? Is it gluten-free?") You feel satisfied, but not overly full. It's a bit pricey, but otherwise it's a definite must-visit.

My granddaughter and took a trip to San Diego for her spring break. Hanging out and taking in the sights.   She enjoyed Balboa Park and Old Town.  I enjoyed a food run to Peace Pies. I made sure to include a cooler in my car trunk to keep my goodies fresh.

This trip I picked up a:
Veggie sandwich with mock tuna.  In general, I am not a fan of mock tuna (I think it's the texture of the stuff - I like crunchy food) but this mock tuna was just the right amount on the sandwich full of crunchy veggies.

Chocolate bar - very good stuff.  Chocolate filled with almonds and other good stuff.  Rich chocolate not too sweet not too bitter.  Very good balance.

Cinnamon buns - just as good as the first time I had them.   I had one and the rest are safely tucked away in the refrigerator.

Kale Chips - I usually make my own but am always interested in tasting others - these has a little spice with a tomato/salsa flavor.  Very good.

I also picked up an apple pecan pie but will taste that later - too full now with all this rich food.

GOOD NEWS!  They have a "cookbook" out I was tempted to buy.  I think you can order it on their website.

Best part??  The prices are GREAT!

I've had a couple products from Peace Pies at the Little Itary Mercado. If you stop by the store or see them at the market, definitely try their raw-gluten-free-vegan-local cinnamon rolls! They are sooo good and make me want to go raw! Yum, yum, yum .... 100% worth the 2 for $5.

Their $5 slice of raw apple pie was pretty good too....as I'm sure the other food is. Not as great as the cinnamon rolls though.

I can't wait to find the store in person! They do sell a $22 cook book as well.

I found peace pies at Little Italy farmers market I am in love. I ordered a mock tuna wrap . It was delicious. I don't think it tasted like tuna but it was really good. It had nuts and apples I can't wait to try the pizza (was worried about the flax-seed crust with plans or would of tried that)

Wow- how nice to find a great raw food restaurant.  I wish there were more in San Diego!  Had a delicious burrito... am inspired to get more creative with my raw cooking after being here.    Was dining here with a non-raw foodie and he is inspired to go more raw after being here and seeing the breadth of food choices on a raw diet.

I love Peace Pies.  I go to the markets in OB, Little Italy and Hillcrest for these guys.  Every week.  I love their food and I love their service.  I usually get their sandos or burgers if they have them, their mock tuna collard wraps are crazy good.  Their cream pies and cakes are unbelievable.  I'm most fond of their chocolate bars and cookies though.

I agree with the multiple comments that the food is very good. The place is indeed clean, has an open feeling to it  (despite being small), and the staff were great.

It doesn't get the five stars because this is a VERY EXPENSIVE option. Now, don't get all annoyed. I know its vegan, organic, raw, local, etc.... That's why I go there. But $8 for a wrap? Over $20 for an average lunch for one person? I can only afford to go once in a blue moon - but its always delicious.

p.s. I find it rather annoying that the prices are not displayed for all the food options. My suggestion, ask! The ultimate price for your meal might be a huge, unpleasant surprise if you don't.

I love businesses like Peace Pies. Homegrown, rooted in great values, etc. And, everything I've had from there is delicious! My husband loves their lemon bars (made with dates and some coconut, plus tons of lemon, of course!), and we both tried their chard wrap with "tuna" (I'm not sure what it's made of, but definitely not fish) salad. I also got some cashew hummus, which is rich and delicious. It has a creaminess that other non-nut hummus products can't produce. Oh yeah, and the carrot cake is great! Mmm. I can't believe it's all raw, but it certainly is! I definitely want to go back soon. They come to lots of farmers' markets as well, and I plan on checking them out at the Little Italy Mercado the next time I'm lucky enough to go there!

PS: The little shop they have is tiny & easy to miss, so be sure to look carefully as you drive nearby. I missed it the first time I tried to find it :)

The best service and raw food in San Diego hands down. Their food is the slowest and healthiest you can get and you feel great eating it afterwards. The owner is very accommodating and accepts orders by email in advance to be picked up at farmers markets (OB, India St. or Hillcrest) The chocolate balls, cinnamon rolls, apple pie, peach pie, veggie pie and mock tuna kale sandwich are outstanding. My children love their food especially the veggie pizza
which is loaded w/ vitamins and minerals. I highly recommend trying
this gem & going raw! Take cash. Each item is approx. $6 each. They also sell fresh young coconuts for $5.

Peace Pies is located outside of the beach area in Ocean Beach going inland.  It's located on the north side of the street.

They don't have a complete menu or display of all their items, so you must ask the employee to tell you what they have.

Although the raw, gluten free, vegan pies were really tasty, the service of the employee assisting us was mediocre.  He was not pleasant and he seemed very impatient.  I asked what kind of pies he mumbled apple, banana berry, and mango.   I bought a slice of each at $3 a piece.

The pie slices are relatively small, but I hear that's normal for raw food.  The mango was creamy, like a mango cheesecake.  The banana and strawberry pie were just as you'd expect.  The apply pie was very fiberous and a little dry.

Parking in the area is very limited, but if you're lucky you'll find a spot on the street in front.

There is limited seating if you choose to dine in.

Their apple pie is to die for, and their "sushi rolls" are fantastic as well! Prices are always low, and it's excellent to have another vegan option in San Diego!

I can't wait to head out to OB and check out their shop!

I've been going to Peace PIes at the Hillcrest Farmer's market for quite a while now and it is exciting to know J.P. and his crew now have a store front in Ocean Beach.  This is simply the best organic, raw, vegan food in San Diego and anywhere.  There is a restaurant in San Francisco, Cafe Gratitude http://www.cafegratitu... that has been doing raw and vegan food for quite a while up there; Peace Pies is as great as Cafe Gratitude and believe me that is saying a lot.

Peace Pies'  mango curry is amazing, spicy, and the flavors whoa!  The desserts are great and J.P. buys local as well.  It's great to see what they have been able to do with raw, vegan, and gluten free food.   We are telling our clients and, as our stafff is gluten free, it has been great to have Peace Pies here for us all.

We are committed to getting the word out about gluten-free living as a way to stop chronic disease.  Peace Pies make gluten free eating easy and tasty!

I wandered in there for lunch and was greeted by some of the nicest people ever . . . their food is fantastic and if you are committed to vegan/raw food, it doesn't get much better.

This is definitely casual at its most extreme, but I'm glad to be able to grab food and go!

For an outfit that doesn't use meat, seafood, dairy, gluten or heat, Peace Pies has a seemingly insurmountable goal of making their healthy menu selections palatable. Their newest project - a raw food cafe at the site of their prep kitchen in Ocean Beach - provides both newcomers and long-time fans a stable headquarters to find their favorite snacks and meals.

Many folks know the Peace Pies guys, JP and TJ, from local farmers' markets. They make up for the paucity of letters in their names by producing an inspirational offering of raw cuisine including salads, main courses, desserts and more. Everything they make is fresh, inventive, tasty and of course healthy.

Customers can eat in the small eating area, or take food out. Of course because the food doesn't need to be heated or cooked, service is pretty speedy.

Today I picked up some snacking items - a fresh coconut with a straw in it, a fig and fennel salad, and sprouted buckwheat granola. Many of the dishes are based on local, seasonal produce, so the menu changes often. My favorite specials from the farmers' markets (I go to about four of them regularly) include falafel, tostadas, the "pizza" slices and various salads.

I'm trying to squeeze into my bathing suit this summer, so raw food will figure heavily into my diet in the coming weeks. I'm really looking forward to getting my Peace Pies fix in one location.

My ignorant carnivorous friends might kill me for saying this, but RAW CAN TASTE GOOD.

Kale salad: very light, clean flavor, save for the green onion.  I'm a green onion lover so I enjoyed it, but if you shy away from stronger tasting dishes, this might not be for you.

Coconut Banana Berry Pie: AMAZING.  I can't believe this slice of pie wasn't sweetened.  The cashew nut/date crust had a sweet, almost musty chewy consistency.  The filling consisted of chunks of ripe banana and incredibly sweet strawberries.  The shredded coconut atop it all gave the pie another layer of texture.  Mmm.

I've never experienced raw food before, but this was a good foray; and I'm definitely looking forward to trying their other offerings!

They offer items like "pizzas", wraps, nori rolls, salads, hummus, fresh coconut and pies. My favorites are the kale salad & the fig and fennel salad. Perfect spot for delicious raw food. I usually hit them up at the Little Italy Farmers market, but their shop in OB is also great. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu, but my favorites are definitely the kale salad and the nori rolls... yumm-o. At the OB location they don't take credit cards for anything under $15 I don't think, so I end up paying more than I really want to for lunch if I don't have cash on me. The employees are fairly flat which is surprising because you'd think with all the amazing stuff they put in their bodies they'd be cheerful, or at least energetic. Definitely check them out!

Peace Pies is a small and unpretentious raw and vegan deli in the heart of Ocean Beach. The food is tasty and the prices are very reasonable. I'm a huge fan of the collard wrap - filled with mock tuna, which I presume is a type of soaked nuts with tahini and other veggies in the mix. The peace a pizza was also delicious - the fresh basil is what gave it a special kick. For the sweet tooth, there are chocolate cream pies - which is heavy on the coconut milk and coconut oil - but perfect for the coconut fan. Down with refined sugar! I would definitely recommend this place to my friends. Friendly, locally-based owners/staff as well.

Seven stars for Peace Pies!  These heads truly understand, and embody, the concept of healthy, local, sustainable eating.  Farm fresh creations and plays on cooked foods are only a couple reasons why Peace Pies deserves seven stars! How bout some RAW-violis? Slice of pizza? Raw coconut cream N-Oreo pies! Chocolate bars made with Cacao! Sandwiches made on raw bread with some cashew cheese and some Suzies Farm veggies & sprouts. I could go on and on about the ridiculously tasty raw, vegan goodness, but, like my Jyoti reccomendation, this is a spot ya gotta check out--now!  Leave the burgers and fries and burritos behind and open ya mind to some life changing foods!  Feel the difference asya walk outta Peace Pies after lunch, glowing with a happy mind and pleased body.  They also have some Kombucha and Gingerize drinks, as well as young coconut water, and a buncha seeds and grains packaged for sale so you can bring some health home for later.  Need a wedding cake? Call Peace Pies, have em cater a small party forya!  Whether i see em in OB during the week or not, i hit em up EVERY Sunday at the Hillcrest farmers market...you'll know its them because theyve got the biggest crowd around their booth--all day long! I'm not suggesting everyone go "raw-vegan" but work some Peace Pies inya diet and feel the difference inside and out! Damn, now i'm craving those RAW-violis like Harold and Kumar in that first movie they made...I wonder if Neil Patrick Harris loves Peace Pies the way i do?
