Standing ovation for this French bakery chef Penny who left her heart in San Francisco and decided to establish her business out in Canada. Canada you are lucky!!!!
Last time I came out here I was so in love with their Belgian waffles that I decided to do some research and with the help of yelp to my surprise lays this hidden oasis full of Belgian waffles from sweet to savory!!!! ALL REASONABLE PRICES.
Day 1 - we had the chocolate coconut waffle, the dark chocolate and the apple cinnamon.
Day 2 - bought treats of mini Belgian waffles for my family and friends and decided to try their cinnamon roll and their rice pudding and Alan indulged in an orange waffle. We also got a baguette (fresh out of the oven) sandwich of pastrami with dressing of balsamic vinaigrette and a sandwich of linguica which was my favorite.
Can't wait to go back!!!! -

I've been going to this place at least once a week since I started working in the area. The same staff have been working since then, and are always very friendly.
I agree with earlier reviews that the prices are a little expensive BUT the quality is excellent. Way better than what you'd get at Starbucks or Tim Horton's! Many times I have had the cinnamon raisin Danish, the cinnamon roll, various waffle, the chocolate chip ookies, the croissant and their pumpkin pie....all extremely tasty!
The sandwiches/waffle sandwiches are also very good, made fresh daily. I recommend one tries them grilled. The downside is they close at 4pm, and aren't open on Mondays. And for some reason, I always want to go there on Mondays...guess I need a treat to start off my week! Also - they're often low or out of pop which makes it annoying if that's the only reason I've stopped by.
Definitely worth a visit if you're right next door at Les Amis du Fromage or Barbara Jo's Books to Cooks! -

Over the holidays, I decided that I would run every morning and eat basically whatever I wanted for the rest of the day. Good thing too because that means I get to gorge on some delectable waffles from Lebeau!
Most people wouldn't think much of waffles, but waffles are awesome by itself, with the sugary goodness or savoury fillings available here. (Hell, I even love fried chicken and waffles!)
My morning favourites here are the White Chocolate with almonds and the Dark chocolate with coconut. Pair that with an espresso or cappucino at home, that's the way breakfast should be!
I've only tried the brussels waffle with poached pears and that was also very good, but I'm going to have to trek out again to eat some more of their offerings. -

I've never been to Belgium but this is what I'd envision it to be like...waffles of every flavour, savoury and sweet, and huge ones too!
The place is small, so you're lucky if you manage to nab a seat.
Upon arrival, there were a lot of samples out to try, I'd definitely recommend the Brussel waffles that have cheese in them! They're bricked-size so they sure are filling.
As for the Liège waffles, I got the white chocolate almond one. I can eat sweets like nobody's business but this waffle was definitely sweet. Let me describe it to you: it's enrobed in white chocolate and inside the dough, there are sugar pearls!
I would say that I enjoyed the savoury waffle better, because it's more unique and (seemingly) harder to make. -

Overrated.
The waffles aren't bad but they aren't great either. I've had better Belgian waffles off a truck in San Francisco (Golden Waffle).
What I do like is the idea of this place, a waffle bakery. Just about any variation imaginable can be found here. Too bad it didn't taste that great.
I would post pictures but they didn't let me take any when I was there. They told me "no pictures allowed" when I took out my iPhone and was just about to snap a few shots. Honestly, their lost. It would have been free advertisement for them.
Go to Medina for better waffles. -
Review from Linzi M.
I am currently eating Vancouver's most expensive egg salad sandwich. For $8.50, I expect this to have come from the same damn chicken that pooped out golden eggs.*
Sure, it's a good egg salad sandwich on a nice sourdoughesque baguette, but jeez, $8.50? And it has celery in it, bleagh, why?!
The moral of the story: don't come here for a sandwich. Do come here if you are craving waffley decadence or incredibly beautiful patisserie cakes. These are not even that overpriced** at $3-4 a cake and $2.80 for a waffle. I had a chocolate dipped chocolate chip waffle and it was everything I hoped it would be. Though secretly I dream of its coconut topped cousin.
*Yes, I know that was a goose, don't be facetious.
** Well they cost more that the Pacific Culinary Institute down the street. I would probably just go there. -

Best Belgian waffles I have ever tasted.
Came here for breakfast last week- they open at 7:30am for you early birds or 1900-0700 shift workers who crave a little waffle lovin' after work.
I tries the orange liege and original liege. Absolute PERFECTION. Warm, soft, chewy and crunchy all at the same time. The liege waffles are made sweeter and taste mind-blowingly amazing without ANY syrup. The employees actually don't recommend syrup for the liege and they are damn right. Get one scoop of fresh whipped cream (extra $1) and it's like a bite of heaven :)
Will go back soon to try more liege and hopefully have room for some Brussel waffles (not sweet). I tried a sample of the bacon&cheese Brussel and it was very tasty.
If you're not a waffle fan, there are other yummy pastries like danishes, croissants and tarts! Even fresh salads and sandwiches.
Like everyones been saying... Don't come here with a big group. You just won't fit.
Ps. They sell a variety of their take home frozen waffles - HOW AWESOME!! -
Review from Jacqueline T.
A simple waffle and sandwich place - what do you expect?
MOUTH WATERING WAFFLES & SANDWICHES!! They have an wide selection of savory and sweet waffles, cause you can never just have one!
Waffle are decently priced $3-6, since each waffle is the size of your open palm or bigger for the savory. I recommend trying a savory if you haven't. The sundried tomato is scrumpti-delicious! I think a few ppl get mixed concept with breakfast waffles. As they don't come out hot out of the oven. Especially the sweet, chocolate dipped ones. You may want to try the savory toasted, but they taste just as good not. These are belgian waffles.. that you slowly take bites out of while you walk around the streets of Belgium (or where we are.. VANCOUVER), not a breakfast waffle where you eat with a fork and knife. Its more of a pastry delight, then a breakfast food :)
Sandwiches.. are a little bit on the steeper side ($8-12).. but I love love love love love them. Want something simple.. get the brie sandwich (BRIE LOVE)! Want something a little bit more different.. I recommend the Salami sandwich! Don't forget to get everything toasted! Melted cheesseee yummmmmm~ I'm expecting that its priced higher because of quality of ingredients, as well as its located so closely to the ever popular Granville Island. But hey.. I'm not complaining :) I always leave happy!! except.. when they run out!! -

Love it !
Went to this place for lunch and tried their tuna sandwich ($6.50) and chocolate and coconut covered waffle ($2.50). Both were yummm !
They have a wide variety of delicious looking waffles and it was hard choosing just one. They even have custard filled waffles - gotta try those next time. I'll definitely go back !
The place is kind of small with not enough seating if you go in a large group. -

The croissants are top notch. They haven't been egg-washed and they're just slightly salty.

We grabbed a few waffles before heading to Stanley Park so we could eat them there. There was already a line out the door at about 830am on a Saturday Morning! The line went pretty fast and the people working were friendly. We went with the mini milk chocolate coconut waffle, a canadian maple liege, a corn and cheese brussel and the hubby saw their cinnamon roll and wanted to try it. Everything was really good and fresh! I started eating it before we even got to the park and finished most of it already, haha.

Freshly baked Waffles, Topped with Fresh Cut Fruit, Topped with Custard and Cream.
They are closed on Sunday. If today is not Sunday, get into your car and get there, enjoy the view of the fancy cars at the Lamborghini and Lotus dealership across the street, and enjoy your best breakfast. Saying more will ruin the experience.
I forgot to mention, its absolutely DELICIOUS
p.s they have a full bakery of goods that are equally as delicious, croissants to die for. -

This is a very good Belgian bakery. Their two specialties are the waffles as well as the baguettes. It is a nice place to pop into for lunch, as they have a small counter where you can eat your sandwich which is served on either baguette or waffle! Yes, savory waffles with things like ham and cheese. Their custard filled waffle is one of my favourites, and they are definitely worth a visit if you are on Granville Island and want to go for a little bit of a walk.
If you are visiting the market and want to "get away" a bit, walk over to grab lunch at Go Fish and then walk a little further to grab dessert at Patisserie Lebeau. It makes for a lovely lunch combination! -
Review from Jonas T.
I'm used to getting Belgian waffles at the waffle truck in San Francisco, so I'm used to getting it made-fresh - on the spot. The Belgian waffles here have been sitting there all day, but they're still really good. I liked their almonds waffle and their coconut waffle. The orange one was good, but eating too much of it makes it feel dry.

This place is tiny, but nestled in a very nice district [fancy car shops, boutique bakeries, and the beginning of an 'artisan' area downtown.
If you are looking for a quick place with very interesting breakfast baked goods.. you should check out this place.. -

I came by last week and was super sad that the place was renovating....
I guess that must be the new year''s resolution of a lot of places... I think in the last couple of weeks, I've visited places that were closed for renovations enough times!!!! but I wasn't going to be let down by this situation.. so another week goes by and Granville island I go all over again......... so I had to get this checked off my list.
Vancouver's 101 Best eats:
Item(s): 1 small plain liege waffle, and 1 regular orange liege waffle. There were other extremely decadent ones like chocolates ones and topped with coconut... looked heavenly.
Price: small ones for $1.70, regular $2.75
I took mine to go and as i ripped little pieces, it already reminded me of Chinese bakery buns. It was sweet, savoury, and I could not stop eating! The one thing I didn't like about it though, was that there were tiny chunks of sugar and sometimes you catch yourself eating... sugar, essentially.... maybe that's just how liege waffles work.
I'm not sure whether they warm them up for you in house, but that definitely does the trick (I had some left over for home). The orange waffle had a faint hint of orange peel which was just right.
Inside the cafe, there were also brussel waffles - salty waffles like ham and cheese, asiago etc.... they had samples and I had a big piece and became instantly addicted. It was hot and flavourful, perfectly with a cup of coffee.
You can come to this place from granville island, or easily off burrard... trust me, this little place does wonders! -
Review from Daniel L.
This Belgium take out bakery, with just a couple of seats has the most wonderful & famous Belgium waffles, baked goods & Euro baguette sandwiches, one can buy.
They have been around for 15 yrs making these crazy amazing waffles which come in about 10 flavors and a whole bunch of fruit filled waffles, and even savory filled waffles. Not to mention their famous tarts, quiche, pies, croissants, .. The quiche is to die for, so so good and easy to eat the whole thing to your self... I love buying a few waffles and freezing them for those unexpected cravings.
NOTE; they can also be bought at few specialty food stores around the city, check out their website. -

I'm primed to love this place given it's an owner-operator couple who work harder than 7 typical people put together and they offer a very high quality, very unique product.
The fresh waffles & danishes can't be beat (no danish other than their fruit danish has EVER tempted me). It's mainly takeout but they serve the waffles hot with fresh fruit etc on a plate for you to eat at the very few stools if you prefer and can find a vacant one. They offer a good espresso, coffee & juices, too.
They'll prep an order for you if you call ahead. Be warned that some of the products aren't available at opening because of the prep time they require.
VERY popular Saturday (they're closed Sunday and Monday) breakfast spot. They are so popular that sometimes 1 hour into the day they start to run out of things. -

To be honest, I'm not really a sugary breakfast person, but because this was one of the highest rated breakfast destinations on yelp, (and my boyfriend likes waffles,) we decided to make the trek across town.
Waffles are not made fresh to order which immediately makes me feel like it's more of a 'dessert treat' than a breakfast. But, I was planning to get one of the savory ones, and they had some samples on the counter, which I tried and was not really that impressed by. I opted instead for one of the little apple pie tarts, which ended up being far sweeter than your average apple pie. My boyfriend ordered a coconut and a chocolate waffle, the former being too overpoweringly sweet for either of us to eat more than a bite of. Coffee was just the kind in the thermoses, and there was a microwave (really!) to heat the food you want warmed up. Tables seemed to be self-clearing which meant we had to sit on one that was a bit dirty/sticky, but I had already deduced that this bakery is clearly not designed predominantly for a sit-down meal experience. (I observed more people taking the waffles to go.)
Overall, unimpressed with this place as an experience, but for ample sugar lovers, I can see how this could be heaven. I'm writing this one off as "Not for me." -

Waffles waffles waffles. Yes, this place does have fantastic waffles!
But did you know that they also have awesome sandwiches? Fresh baguettes, savoury fillings and that mouth watering mix of crunchy crust and soft chewy center.
I love you Lebeau. -

This MUST be a five-star'er because this just has to be 'Woohoo! As good as it gets!"
I had just left Finch's and decided to go to Granville Island when I spotted this little gem.
I was sad to only leave with a dark chocolate covered waffle and a sample of their rice pudding waffle.
I wanted more. I MUST HAVE MORE!!
Ok. I confess. I bought two dark chocolate waffles with the intentions of giving one away but I kept it. I KEPT IT! I put it in my fridge and ate it later in the evening.. and I didn't regret and I still don't regret it.
must have more... -
Review from Allen W.
I'm in love!!! I just returned from a European trip where I saw waffle stands all over the place. Imagine my surprise to learn we have a waffle bakery right here in Vancouver.
Went there last weekend and we tried four varieties: original, chocolate chip, lemon, and rice custard filled. If you think you know what a traditional waffle is, then this shop may help redefine it for you.
The waffles are not light and fluffy, nor drenched in butter and maple syrup. The texture is slightly dense with bits of crisp sugar on the outside. The flavor is remarkable (i.e. love the choc. chip!). You eat the waffle as a pastry, perfect with a cup of coffee. The shop also offers a few savory varieties which I will try on my next trip.
Limited seating is available and it can get busy on the weekend. -
Review from Natasha L.
The interior of the store has been updated. It looks much more contemporary with more seating.
The baguette is just as heavenly as the waffles. For those craving something savory, try their cheese waffles or their sandwiches.Listed in: Breads and co.

Waffle -icious!!
For $3 I got one of the best waffles in the city. I started off with the lemon glazed waffle sprinkled with white chocolate. Followed by an apple custard filled waffle, usually I find this too glaringly sweet but, this was the right amount of sweetness.
Atmosphere:
Very cozy and, friendly kits like atmosphere.

Heaven, Heaven, Heaven. Small storefront with limited seating houses some of the most amazing patisseries I've ever had. Buttery, crisy, but not overly so. Had chocolate croissants, quiche Lorraine, Belgian waffles of all sorts, (they have both savory and sweet). Their cheese danish is enough to make me move to Canada and try to obtain citizenship it is that good. The cheese is tart with a smooth marscapone feel. Simply amazing. The prices are a little high, but you are paying for the quality and attention to detail. Again, it is small so large groups may be hard. Will be back again and again!

Yay. It took me forever to find this patisserie online. It reminded me of my journey trying to find the place when I was in Vancouver. It's a 10 minute walk from the Granville Public Market and it's located in a rinky dink area of town. It's not sketchy, but compared to the Whole Foods atmosphere at the Public Market, it's not as posh. Don't let your inner snob get the best of you though. They specialize in Belgian waffles and they're soooooo good. It's worth the trek.

I love the variety and quality of the waffles. The baguettes are so good as are the yummy treats. True the rice pie or blueberry rice pie.

Review from Sarah O.
Where else can you get this many variety of waffles? I like the savory waffles and they make a great mocha as well. I asked the worker what kind of tea they had and instead of the usual run-down of the list, this girl looks over at me smiling and says.. "well, what do you want?" and so, again, I asked, "well what do you have?" By this point it became some kind of a negotiation.. but she totally closed the deal when she said, "anything you want, we have it. just tell me what you want." I can't speak for anyone else but as for me, I feel that this should be the answer to everything everywhere, ever. Anyway back to the reviewing- one thing I feel they could improve on is that they make the waffles fresh-to-order. Having them sit out on the counter sure is aesthetically pleasing and fun to look at, but I'd much rather have my waffles hot.

Just a short walk from Burrard Street, inconspicuously wedge amongst car showrooms, bookstore and random office spaces is Patisserie Lebeau. They offer a limited range of baked goods (if you get there early enough, there are Danishes, éclairs and croissants on offer) but their focused dedication is to Belgian waffles. My favourite is the one coated in white chocolate but everything is generally delicious. Go early as they often sell out near closing time.

Absolutely the best Belgian waffles I've ever had within the West Coast. A hidden gem nearby the Lamborghini store, but must definitely visit whenever I'm in town! The plethora of flavors and concoctions (almond white chocolate my fav!) thrown on top of some crunchy yet moist and well done waffles makes for an orgasmic explosion in the mouth that leaves you asking for more, more MORE!

Review from Abby M.
Ever since having the liege waffle with spekuloos from Wafels and Dinges in New York, I have been obsessed with liege waffles. Therefore, I am always on the hunt for them (spekuloos is still yet to be found). These waffles don't compare to those waffles, but they are pretty good! I sampled the Dark Chocolate with Coconut, the Orange and the Milk Chocolate Waffle (I am not a pig, I tried the waffles of the others I was with). The chocolate coconut one was mine. They didn't offer to heat it up so I put it in the microwave which made it better. It was quite tasty. The milk chocolate was alright for me, but the person who had it thought it was amazing. I quite liked the orange one because it tasted really fresh. If I went back, I would get the plain one because liege waffles don't need embellishments. These certainly aren't the best liege waffles, but they are quite good. I would definitely come back.
