I am in love with their caramel macaron. I am willing to buy a dozen everyday if their quality stays the same all year around.
The service was great and great customer service. Unfortunately, some of their customers are very high demanding. Be kind to your food servers. -
Review from Joie T.
It was a spontaneous day! And what a joyous sunny day, too! We hopped on the TTC and ended getting off at Eglington Station. Since it was lovely out, we decided to take a 20 minute stroll through the Bayview/Leaside neighbourhoods.
Oh no! I didn't do my yelp research prior! So here I am, walking, talking, eating, and yelping all at once! Oh, and walking my dog at the same time! Yup, just call me the multi-task queen!
PET-FRIENDLY
PLC was the first cafe that caught our eye, so we stepped inside. There was a "no dog sign" outside, but I took my chances by asking the staff if it was alright to sit at the very back corner of the patio, with our pet, and surprisingly, she said YES! (*BIG SMILE*) Never hurts to ask! Plus, they get a bonus point for that!
AMBIANCE
Cute cozy little cafe with a Parisian aura, and European style patio furnishings, brightly lit, with pretty pastels yellow walls and splashes of pink accents.
FOOD
They have an All Day Brunch Menu, and being 2:30pm, why not?
Cafe
We got a cappucino (which was brought over with fresh cinnamon & chocolate sprinkles). Great cup of coffee! The coffee was very smooth, and not too bitter, for my liking.
Croque Madame
Toasted brioche layered with ham & Swiss cheese & topped with a fried egg. This was a STACKED sandwich, 3 layers of buttery bread, with ham & cheese between, and a fried egg oozing on top! Delicious and oh-so-buttery-YUM!!!
Chicken Tourtiere
Chicken chunks cooked in white wine, carrots, peas, celery and many other vegetables. I'm not a fan of any "pie" type foods, and was hoping this would convert me. It was good, but it didn't make me get up and boogie.
SERVICE
Awesome! Always smiling, efficient, and friendly! Or maybe it was because we came in the late afternoon on a Sunday?
PRICE
All of that came to $27.00 (no tips added yet). So, it's average for brunch prices.
Yes, we enjoyed ourselves here, and the food. It's a tiny space, so it's great for dates and catching up with just one friend, or two. And Oh-So-Awesome for Sunday late brunch on the patio! -

My favourite item is the blueberry danish and where La Cigogne excels is with the pastry, which is as delightful as the jam-topped part (!)
The cashier advised that it was free refills for the self-serve drip coffee, which is great and I appreciate having milk (vs. UHT creamers)
The staff are quick to clear tables and large windows provide a lot of natural light.
I was not impressed by the cake pieces, which did not taste any near as good as the names or the appearance. It may just have been bad luck that one piece was not that fresh and the other was very lacking in taste & flavour.
I recommend sticking with the pastries, which unfortunately do not have description tags or prices, but the staff has been cordial when I have inquired about what things are (feel too sheepish to ask about price...)
There is a sidewalk patio with a few umbrellas, so only some tables are shaded.

I've only had coffee and either Madelines or croissants, but both times they were excellent!
I will definitely go there again... -

A couple of weeks ago I (through my mother) encountered a very unprofessional experience. As a regular, you'd expect respect and appreciation for your business (both the family and I have probably spent over a thousand dollars here throughout the years).
I was accused of running out on the bill by the owner when I was not there to defend myself. Instead, my mother was spoken to by the owner in front of many people on a busy weekend. This situation was not handled professionally imo.
La Cigogne should have:
- waited for my return as I live in the area and I am a regular
- not called out my mother on this
- provided a date and time of when this supposedly happenedListed in: Lovely Little Leaside

5-star cakes!
5-star service and staff.
Macarons 2-star (I don't want to lie)
We recently ordered a Louis XIV cake for my mother's birthday. Even though she doesn't have a sweet tooth, and a few others in the birthday party claimed they were "on diet", who can refuse delicious layers of dark chocolate mousse, cassis cream, and pear mousse that looks almost as beautiful as it tastes. Needless to say it disappeared in no time.
Macarons, on the other hand, were a little sad. The meringue shells were quite dense to the extent of being gluey. Maybe we should have let it sit and come back to room temperature for a little longer, but I doubt the meringue would spring back to life much. Maybe it was their off-day for macarons.
Will still go back for cakes and other pastries.Listed in: Macarons in Toronto / GTA

This place still packs a punch.
On labour day, the choices were slim, but I was headed to La Cigogne specifically. I wanted some tourtiere. I was so glad when I saw the joint bursting at the seams with other patrons.
I managed to snag a table. French tourtiere (comes with salad) and a coffee was thirteen and change. The salad was so fresh and had dried cranberries atop. The raspberry vinaigrette on the side was quite light and flavourful. But, the tourtiere stole the show. Actual pieces of beautiful pork and beef sandwiched between buttery pastry. There were only a couple of pieces of potato - which was great to see that the pie was not full of filler.
The coffee was fantastic, and hearing french conversation from a couple of tables, and the CBC playing in the background....made me feel that today truly was a labour-less day. That is until I got back home and did dishes and some work.....Listed in: Mid Town

Dare I say....I was actually pretty disappointed.
My company and I were craving something sweet two days ago, so we ordered:
Roasted beef sandwich - 4/5 - my ol' friend said that the roast beef was juicy and he enjoyed it
Vegetarian sandwich - 3.5/5 - I liked it. The veggies were nice and crisp and the avocado spread was nice. However, it was nothing special. The baguette was a little tough to bite into.
Macarons - 1/5 - Very dissapointed. I actually went here mainly for the macarons. My company ordered the 12 pack for us. It came with 6 flavors..and i got to admit it was way too sweet and the texture wasn't as good as the other macarons i've had in the past
Individual Cakes: They had the buy 1, get 1 free thing going on, so we got 12 in total. We ordered the creme brulee, opera, prince noir, the symphony, st.eve, and i forgot the other two. The only thing I liked was St.Eve. It was not too sweet, yet it had a perfect crunch to it. My ol' friend liked St.Eve, creme brulee and prince noir.
Service and Staff: 5/5 - They were so friendly as soon as we entered the door. They were very knowledgeable about their products. They packed our individual desserts and kept it in a box, while we ate the sandwiches , which were brought to us quickly after we ordered. After we finished eating our sandwiches, we asked if they could keep the box inside the fridge for 30 minutes while we walked around the neighborhood and they said yes nicely.
Overall: I would only go there again to try their breakfast/brunch...not their desserts....but it's very unlikely. Plus, it's pretty expensive.
*sigh...i had such high expectations for this place... -

I have to tell you once and again I eat everything in a dessert EXCEPT raisins! Can't you get it?? For me sharing a piece of cake with a good friend over a cup of cappuccio is the most enjoyable part and what I having for dessert is not as improtant.
Patisserie La Cigogne is sure a nice and cute place to hang out. So many awesome looking cake pieces displayed in the cabinet. I know it is hard to just pick one! But isn't life is all about choices :P.
Giulana B's choice of "The Paradise" ($4.80) I found it A-OK. Maybe I just have too much fun talking with Giulana looking into her beautiful eyes.. (cut it out! she is taken!) I find the chocolate mousse filling light and not too sweet.. hey I like the vanilla sponge because when eating with the mousse compliments each other!
I can imagine having a coffee on the patio in a nice cool summer night... that will have to wait till next summer when I drop by again! -

SCARBOROUGH, ON
The place itself is really cute and the cake/pastry display is beautiful and delicious looking. As soon as I walked in here I knew I would have a really hard time choosing just one thing to eat, instead of one of each which is what I really wanted. But I had strict directions from Jennifer K. that I was to get only ONE thing. *sigh* :)
I had a cappuccino, and after looking at the cake display for a good 10 minutes trying to make up my mind, I finally settled on a delicious looking a decadent sounding "Paradise" pastry. It was described as an orange flavoured chocolate mousse with Grand Marnier creme brulee filling. WOW! How could I possibly resist that? Chocolate mousse and creme brulee all in one?!!?
I was bursting with happiness and anticipation as I put the first forkful of this and my mouth and then I was somewhat disappointed. The mousse is really good, not too sweet and with a distinct orange flavour. However there was really no creme brulee to be seen except for one minuscule tiny drop in the centre which really did not taste like Grand Marnier at all. Also there was a layer of vanilla sponge at the bottom of the mousse which I found dry and tasteless. On the other hand my cappuccino was pretty good.
"Le Paradise" ended looking like a little piece of paradise and tasting nothing like it. had it not been for the delicious mousse component and how cute the place really is, this would have lost one more star. However, I am tempted to come back and give them another chance...maybe they can redeem themselves with their other delicious looking offerings.Listed in: Get your sugar fix!

I went to Patisserie La Cigogne earlier this week having enjoyed this place many times in the past and I must say that I WILL NOT BE BACK!!!
The cake I had was so obviously stale. The chocolate glaze over the cake was hard to a point that a fork could barely slice through it and when it did it stuck to the utensil like Play-do. The consistency of it was like rubber. The chocolate glaze over Tim Horton's Bostom cream donuts are more soft and edible than this cake was.
Okay I understand. People make mistakes and they may have missed this one when they were putting in a fresh batch but the most INFURIATING thing was that when I brought it to the attention of the lady who was behind the counter she did NOTHING, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, to fix the situation.
How is it possible that a place like this on Bayview can have such TERRIBLE customer service?!?!?!?!?!?! I made the effort to go up to the lady to tell her that the cake was stale and all she did was look at me, say "Okay" and then walk away.
Honestly people, forget this place. It may have been good once but it's completely over the hill now. THE CAKES ARE STALE AND THE SERVICE IS ATROCIOUS.
TAKE MY ADVICE, ENJOY YOUR DAY AND JUST GO TO RAHIER. -

Please note my review is based only on their macarons, which was my reason for visiting. The actual establishment is cute, the service was very friendly, and the other pastries and food looked good.
Now, onto the macarons. They were hands down the worst macarons I've had in the city. I purchased the six pack for $8.50 plus tax. They looked very pretty, and I nearly bought a larger pack. Thank God I've learned to buy macarons in small quantities, because there's nothing worse than wasting hard-earned money on bad macarons.
The colours, size and shape are appealing and look like the real deal. Do not be fooled by this! The macaron shells were not crisp and moist, instead they were chewy, gummy... dare I say rubbery? That's one word I've never used to describe any macaron. They did not taste like heavenly almond meringue. They tasted like raw Pillsbury dough left on the hood of a car. The fillings were equally atrocious. Stale jam and chalky ganache.
The flavours were lemon, raspberry, vanilla, orange, purple and green. I'm serious, I could not detect what flavours those colours were. I thought the green was either pistachio or mint, but the shell was just sweet and the filling tasted like nutella maybe.
I want a good macaron now to erase the painful memory! Sigh. -

With the chocolate festival that went on a few days ago, a few stores had some promotions going on. Patisserie La Cigogne had a buy 1 get 1 free croissant/dessert/danish going on, so I decided to pop by.
My Orders:
PRINCE NOIR - (Crispy praline crust, roasted hazelnut coffee butter
cream and chocolate mousse. Finish with dark glaze) Honestly, the description tastes as good as it sounds. I loved everything about this. It'd be amazing with a cup of coffee or something, but a star on its' own.
EXOTIC FLOWER - (White chocolate mousse exotic fruit cream filling (mango, passion fruit & banana) w/ dark chocolate brownie) I never order white chocolate much, so this was something new and I liked it! It wasn't too sweet and the presentation would have pleased the eyes of an angel! Inside had a piece of pineapple which didn't click well, but the mousse was delicious.
DREAM OF CHINA - (Strawberry mousse and passion fruit coulis encased with a fancy biscuit.) It was smooth, but also it was a bit sour on the inside, overall nothing really special though.
ST.EVE - (Crusty almond sponge, roasted hazelnut butter cream with layer of dark chocolate inside) Honestly, this had a gooey and chewy texture to it... i didn't like it and it tasted like it was there for awhile.
INTENSE - (Dark chocolate mousse filled with mixed berry coulis, finished with a dark chocolate glaze) I'm a big fan of dark chocolate, but this was too rich for me! and the berry coulis was alright with the dark chocolate, but nothing new again. I think a glass of milk would go great though or a latte.. otherwise it was too intense.
SENSATION - (Sweet crust filled with almond cream and crunchy
hazelnut, finished with pistachio mousse) The name is so deceiving 'cause there was nothing sensational about this... and it did not even taste like green tea at all! which is what the description card said but it was pistachio..however my mom liked it..
Overall, the desserts were nice, but it's pricey so I don't think I'd come back here.. there are other bakeries that are waiting for me! Although I really did love the Prince Noir! -
Review from Ktimene G.
Just lovely! The staff in aprons set the mood. Tiny. French. Casual decadence. The kind of place you want to sit all Saturday morning with your coffee and your lover, reading the paper.
Drool-worthy chicken & mushroom crepes with red pepper sauce and a selection of specialty quiches are too perfect to be followed by desert, so take home a rainbow set of almond macarons, filled with pomegranate and violet jellies, so you never have to come down. -

Been here once, on a weekday morning. Delicious food (we had crepes, omelettes). In portions that are nicely sized (not huge, but as much rich food that most people would want to eat). I really enjoyed the jam provided with the baguette (costs $1.00 extra but worth it). Appropriate prices. I like the serve yourself coffee, because you don't have to wait for someone to come around. Tables a bit close together, somewhat difficult to move around. Nice patio but sound of traffic on Bayview would reduce the pleasure.
4.5 stars. Would definitely come here again. -

Third time here. Never disappoints. Pina Colada cake is so refreshing, not too sweet. Perfect for spring and summer afternoon

4.5 stars
Even just walking past Cigogne, you can feel the class and authenticity of the French patisserie. It's no surprise that I've took every chance I've had to pick up at least one item whenever I'm in the near vicinity.
My personal all time favourite is the apricot danish! Nothing else simply comes close for me, and I can simply say I haven't had a better danish anywhere else. The custard is perfect and you can almost say it tastes "fresh" (not a quality that applies to most custards!). The doughy bit tastes like a fresh, soft croissant, and the apricot compote tops it all off!
Chocolate brioche, the mini cakes/mousses and savoury pies/quiches are also a safe bet.
0.5 stars is deducted because a)they run out of some items really quickly and so there is no guarantee you will get an item at any particular time (10am is the best bet!). For e.g. after finishing my danish, I went back to buy more today and they were all out (within 30 mins of original visit!)
b)sometimes the people behind the counter could be a little nicer! -
Review from Chris P.
I downed a custard danish on my short visit here. It was nice and flaky and was so soft it almost fell apart in my hands while I was eating it. The place was packed but the staff seemed to be handling the business briskly as tables were cleared immediately so that the next round of customers could sit.

Check out their pictures and website. Pastries are good looking and delicious! A wonderful delight in the afternoon. Show me another patisserie and I am sure this place will beat it.
