Parc de la Chute-Montmorency is a amazingly beautiful waterfall just miles away from Quebec City. Taking the stairs to the top is a great work out, strolling on the bridge over the waterfall is lovely, and the views from the top are amazing! Definitely worth a stop over if your visiting QC.

If you are spending a day or more visiting Quebec City, you should come to these falls. They are JUST outside the city and are beautiful. I went in February on a Monday and everything was closed, but like everywhere else in the winter in Quebec, everyone just ignores the fact that it is so cold and so the area was full of walkers and visitors anyway.
The giant stairs were closed (for good reason, they were practically buried in snow) but we walked over the ice and found an igloo! Some people built a fantastic igloo right in the middle of the frozen basin.
The falls were partially frozen and the mist and spray at the bottom created a gigantic hill in the ice and someone carved stairs into them and you could climb to the top. Others were ice climbing on the rock face, too.
The views from the suspension bridge was cool - it is a great place to check out the frozen River. Even though I am from Boston - the weather and the effects on the surroundings were still impressive. Us Bostonians complain about weather, but we have nothing on the quebecois!

A must-see while visiting Québec! Breathtaking views.
There are walking trails and hiking paths where viewpoints offer impressive views of the falls. The view from the suspended bridge over the falls opens on the falls below, the St. Lawrence River and the île d'Orléans. Our tour bus guide stated that if one were to walk entirely (round-trip) on The Bridge Over the Falls one would be a described as a hero; otherwise if one were unable to cross entirely one is a chicken. My Mom and I are both heros for crossing the bridge entirely! Le Pont De La Chute Waterfall was not intimidating!
The long haul walk of the suspended bridge as well as the walking trails was refreshing to clear my head of the recent hardships and struggles infumed in my professional and personal life.

If you're leaving Quebec City headed east, get ready for a pretty spectacular view on your left. Seems like this has happened to a lot of people and luckily the Quebec transportation authorities have built a turnaround to head back west so you can stop off at this beautiful waterfall.
You can make your visit to the falls into whatever kind of experience you're looking for. If you want a more leisurely excursion, take the cable car up to the top of the falls, grab a bite at the restaurant, saunter across the suspension bridge and then ride the car back down. If you're feeling more athletic, you can take the stairs or do a little hike in the woods behind the falls. As you explore the grounds around the falls, there are many little areas to stop and take in the view from pretty much every angle possible. Beau-ti-ful!
