I wish I had a chance to visit this place more often! I came here the first time years ago - it would have been 2004 - to celebrate the marriage of some friends of mine. They were seasoned Paradise experts, and ordered bowls of pho and other delightful items for the rest of us.

I remember being so absolutely blown away by the vegan shrimp. The texture and taste was incredible, and at that point it had been less than six months since I'd last had shrimp. Now that it's been more than seven years, I still love that darn faux shrimp.

This place is such an unexpected hole in the wall. I hope it's there forever.

Last week a friend and I made the long trek out into the burbs for some tasty vegan Pho. Neither of us have had it before and we were weary of restaurants offering vegetarian pho when there is a high probability that the broth isn't vegetarian. This seemed like our safest bet.

It was empty when we got there but quickly filled up. We decided to share a small bowl of Pho (big enough for two) and also ordered the Broccoli Veggie-Chicken with Black Bean Sauce, and the Pan Fried Stuffed Eggplant and a bowl of rice. We realized pretty fast that this was waaaaay too much food for 2 people.

Everything was delicious! Our favourite was the Broccoli Veggie-Chicken dish for sure. So flavourful and the fake chicken had the best texture, it kind of reminded me of the fake chicken drumsticks you can get at Whole Vegetarian on Main Street. The Pan Fried Stuffed Eggplant was interesting.. our server said it was stuffed with tofu, and it had a nice crispy fried layer on top. It also came in some kind of orangey looking goopy sauce. It was pretty weird looking but it tasted fine.

Now we know the joy that is a big steaming bowl of Pho. Even if the beef in it wasn't real. :)

I wish Paradise wasn't located so far out in the burbs, but it's definitely worth the trip!

Well with everyone oohing and ahhing about what an awesome restaurant this is, I'm here to bring some balance into the mix.

First, a comment about the two stars: you might get the impression that I don't like the food or the people that run the restaurant, so I'll clarify that. The food is decent - some of it's actually quite good. But in my opinion most of it is decent three star fare, that is being over rated by most other reviewers, probably because there aren't many (any?) other restaurants like this in the surrounding area. Maybe one or two of the dishes even approach four stars, but only barely so,

My impression from eating there several times is that although there is a fair amount of selection; most of the menu items have a certain sameness about them, and it's not merely because it's Vietnamese food, it's more that it all has a sort of TVP aspect to it, plus something else that I can't quite put my finger on. But the food IS good, even if you aren't a vegan (I'm not). It's just not outstanding.

The service typically is slow, so don't come here if you're in a hurry.

I would have rated Paradise at three stars if the owner didn't have the big TV in the corner (made all the bigger by the very small size of the restaurant) constantly shovelling out propaganda for her cult leader, the so-called 'Supreme Master Ching Hai'. I don't begrudge the lady being in a cult if that's her thing, or even having some literature in a rack that I can check out if I so choose. But come on; we should be able to go there and enjoy a meal without having her religion pretty much shoved in our faces. As that is part of the overall Paradise Noodle experience, my review is based partly on it.

Ditch the Ching Hai cult leader TV and I'll give this place three stars, based on the food and service (the service is really only two star service at best). But with that TV there, it is only a two star joint, unfortunately.

At any rate, if you want some tasty, but not outstanding vegan/Vietnamese food, do make a point of checking this place out - the two stars notwithstanding.

As to the prices; for the Vancouver area, they are very reasonable.

I have walked by this place loads of time on my way to Choices, and finally last night made the effort to go in.

The place is quaint, clean, and the decor is up-to-date vietnemese theme (it is a vegetarian Vietemense place after all). My only complaint is it was really quiet as I went early and there was only one other table, so conversation drifting over was a bit invasive, but no trouble really. The food itself was divine, I thought the selection was great - although it is a vegetarian restuarant there are several meat options so you do not need to force your carnivore friends to eat tofu if they don`t want to.

There were specials and prices on all items was really good; this is definately a place I would recommend to others in the area

Paradise has been around for a few years and recently had an interior upgrade which makes it look a little less like an ubiquitous fast Asian restaurant.  It's located in a strip mall, with free parking and also on a bus route, I believe.

This is a family-run business and they close on Sunday, as well as a few weeks per year when they take a holiday.

The service, we have always found, is quite prompt, although if you order many items of course there's a slightly longer wait.  The place can vary from almost empty to very busy but we've never had an unusually long wait time.

The food is bursting with flavour, and considerably less oily than other vegetarian food such as Chinese vegetarian.  I love the lemongrass tofu, the fresh spring rolls,  the curry veg and the ginger "chicken".  Our two fave soups are the spinach tofu and the house combination -- if you eat it in the restaurant, the house combination soup comes over a live flame which you can extinguish when ready.  This broth is slightly sweet, while the spinach tofu broth is slightly salty.  They also have Chi cake for dessert.  If you haven't tried Vietnamese coffee, do try it here -- they make it just as they do in Vietnam, individually in each glass,  with sweetened condensed milk.

We're vegetarians but have taken meat-eaters here and they have all enjoyed the food.

This place gives a discount to Earthsave members, but we don't ask for it any more.

Prices are reasonable and service is friendly.  This is one of our favourite places in the Lower Mainland and we eat there when in the area.  As a bonus, the market in the strip mall changed to a Choices a few months ago so, after eating at Paradise, one can go shopping.

Hunting for a vegetarian restaurant is hard to do in Burnaby. There's probably 10. Wish there were more.

I suggested this dining spot after a quick Google and Yelp search, when Karmacore, the Vegan store recommended it.

I recommend it too. It's a small, vegetarian with some Vegan meals on offer.

Great portions, fresh, full of flavour. The server/owner adapted my food order when I asked for veg and noodles in my fake-chicken curry. She was very helpful to find a solution.

Service nice. And as I often say on a benchmark basis, there's little attitude from the server compared to what you feel when eating at Banana Leaf.

Service isn't fast. They're not going to win any awards for that. You're there for the clean veg Asian meals, the delicious flavours and a calm, I didn't expect to feel.

This place doesn't need reviews and an influx of diners. With only 9 tables, it was full. People are starved of a decent veg eatery in Burnaby, and this little eatery knows it's worth. Long may it thrive and serve delicious food:)  I will return.

The food is amazing!  It's a quaint place.  Not fine dining, by any means, but a great place for a good meal at a very reasonable price.  I keep coming back for more, even though I don't live anywhere near this place.  It's worth the trip.

As for the 'meat options'... I'm pretty sure that it's made-to-taste-like meat and not actual meat.  But your friends wouldn't know the difference.

    ---

Just went the other night.  The one thing that I don't like about this place is that it is not air conditioned.  It has been boiling that last few days, and while I still enjoyed the experience, it is a little bit like a hot box, even with the door open.

I love everything there, especially the vitetnamese crepes, and Combo #2 (with different types of "meat").  This time, I had the garlic beef, and while it was okay, it wasn't their best.  Still, I love this place.

My wife and I love Paradise.  The food is very reasonably priced, especially for being specialty (vegan/vegetarian) food.  The food preparation is slow, so do not go here if you are in a hurry.  We usually go on a Wednesday or Thursday night and enjoy the laid back pace.  We go to enjoy or selves not eat in a hurry.  All the food is vegetarian/vegan and I think they may have transitioned to being all vegan (at least I believe all dishes can be made vegan).  I recommend the sauteed garlic beef.  They have vegan/vegetarian cookbooks on the shelf to peruse while you wait.  The nice lady that runs the place even said my wife could borrow one when our food came and she was still reading it (and that was the first time we ate there!).

Paradise is absolutely delicious!  My favorite is the the spicy chicken and potato curry (veggie chicken).  The food is to die for!  I work about 10 minutes away, so I eat here often.  You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu.  The last review says there are meat options, which is incorrect!  Paradise is 100% vegetarian, but trust me, you could easily fool your meat-eating friends.  It's a must try for everyone!
