Here's another local secret. This park is only a short drive away, at the edge of Deep Cove.
Take a short walk through the park to the water's edge and gaze past the pier to the mountain. You can see Grey Rock jutting out up there and as sure as you can see it, there are hikers up there looking down toward you too.
The park is absolutely lovely, and just steps away Deep Cove has a few little shops, a cafe, Arms Reach Bistro and the alluring Honey Doughnuts and Goodies. (-be warned, highly addictive!)
Panorama Park is also home to many local festivals and events.

soooo pudy..this is why we pay too much money to live where we do...the water ...the mountains..the green..the fresh dewy air on a cool fall morning...watching all the tourist kayakers paddle in circles and inevitably give up or get wet.....awesomeness...
Also...the cleanest park bathrooms I have ever used...my actual comment upon leaving was "that was such a nice bathroom, it even smelled good", to which my partner replied "did you seriously say smelled good"?....that's right..I think that the Panorama Park bathrooms smell good...at least that day they did.. -

A park and beach with a prettier view you will not find. Especially on a sunny day, it's great to sit on the grassy slopes and watch the kayakers, sailboats, and a few yachts go back and forth against a backdrop of calm waters, mountains, and islands. There is a small swimming beach on the north side of the bay that has a raft during the summer; I don't recommend actually swimming here because of the high coliform counts in the water (that's tech speak for poo.) The water also drops off very quickly, hence the name of the area, Deep Cove. But hey, choose your own adventure.
The park also encompasses a government wharf that anyone can tie up to, for a limited length of time, and the Deep Cove Canoe and Kayak Centre. I like to take my dog and throw a few sticks for her on the grassy slope near the Kayak Centre, and then amble off into the woods behind the picnic shelter. There's a little trail that goes in behind some of Deep Cove's original cottages from when this was a summer resort; now some very valuable pieces of real estate.
On the other side of the park, just across Panorama Drive, you will also find the trailhead for the Baden-Powell Trail, which incidentally, leads to a viewpoint with a panoramic view of the Cove and beyond. (Wear hiking or good running shoes for this option!) -

From Panorama Park in Deep Cove you look out to the horseshoe-shaped cove with the water ending and high mountains jutting up on either side. There are boats docked in the cove and usually a few kayakers paddling around. It's quiet. It's a small town. There are hiking trails near by. But you could just get a coffee or bring a picnic and enjoy this grassy park on a warm day.
There's a small beach, a play area for kids and a BBQ area. But all you really need is that view. It's worth a day trip out if you are visiting Vancouver. And if you're from here, you shouldn't take beauty like this for granted! -

The sun is out and everyone wants a spot by the water. If you don't feel like battling the crowds at Kits or English Bay then this is a fantastic alternative. A peaceful nirvana tucked away at the base of Mt Seymour. Laze on the grass and stare out at the picturesque bay as boats and kayakers meander past. Stroll along the waters edge turning over rocks to discover crabs scuttling away to the nearest nook and cranny. A perfect escape from the city and yet still right on the doorstep.
