We found this place on yelp while touring Charleston for the weekend.  After our meal, we all agreed that it was some of the best italian we had ever had.  I wish it were in my home town!  The gnocci was the most delicious I had ever tasted!

We walked in and they accommodated us with a table, but I would suggest getting a reservation because it seems like we got lucky.  Our server was very knowledgeable and nice.  I can't say much about the decor.  Average I suppose.

This restaurant offered the poorest level of service that I have experienced in Charleston. I called this restaurant and explained that I was leaving play nearby and wanted to know if they would be able to accommodate us as I was concerned that they closed in an hour. I explained that we would arrive in ten minutes and that there were only 2 people in my party. I was assured that time was not an issue and that the staff would be, as the person on the phone said, "expecting [us]". Within ten minutes I arrived and waited for 5 minutes before anyone acknowledged that we had arrived.

I asked a server if we should seat ourselves and he replied that he would have to check to see if we could be seated. After an inspection of the dining room, there were two tables seated. The restaurant was otherwise empty. The server vanished for 5 minutes and re-appeared. He explained that we could be seated.

Next a different server approached our table and asked if we would like anything to drink. I replied that we would like two camparis on the rocks with a splash of soda. For a restaurant that bills itself as authentic Italian, I would imagine that this would be a simple request, but  it was an ordeal that took another 20 minutes for the staff to figure out.

While three workers chatted and laughed behind the bar we waited and waited. We noticed that after 15 minutes our server appeared at the bar, poured our drinks, and then vanished. Our drinks sat at the bar for 5 minutes before they were brought to our table.

After we received our drinks, we ordered our food. We ordered bruschetta. The bruschetta turned out to be soggy. It seemed as if it had been sitting around for a few hours before it was brought to our table. The entrees we ordered were perfect. Following the same pattern throughout the evening our server vanished after our entrees were brought out and we waited at least 30 minutes after we finished our entree to get our check. When we asked for our check the server made a snappy reply: "No desert? Quick and easy....just as I like." I didn't find the comment amusing.

A day after my visit, I wrote the owner a letter and mailed it to the address published on the restaurant's website. I carefully explained that overall our food was excellent (with the exception of the appetizer). I also explained that I didn't think the service that they offered was a match with the price that they charge. I asked for phone call or a reply. It has been two months. I have received neither. The staff seems apathetic to any concerns their patrons may have. For a restaurant that claims to be award winning, the only award I can give is the poorest service ever award.
If the level of service improved I would increase my rating.

I have both served and bartended at another local restaurant in the Charleston "upper king" area.  In the same genre.  I often find myself dinning at Pane e Vino more often than where I worked.  The food is very good and reasonable in price.  Pane offers a better than average wine list.  The decor is soft and real.  Of course, we have all and will again experience a bad night at a restaurant.  It's part of the industry.  As for Pane e Vino, I am very pleased with the food and wine.  As for these over dramatic and negative reviewers, clearly they are way into themselves to feel the need to go on and on about a bad experience they may or may not have had.  I rarely encounter a bad review from this place.  If a nice bottle of vino and a far better than average meal is what you're seeking Pane e Vino will more than serve you well.  Thanks Alfredo

Great Italian food that doesn't kill the bank.  Alfredo, the owner, is very attentive and the ambiance is super romantic.  Sit outside if the weather is nice to enjoy the live music and lights.  Order the house wine - it's a great deal - and the mussels a diavola are the best mussels in town.....even better than Rue de Jean's.  Can't say enough good things.....I have traveled to Italy many times and Pane e Vino does the genre justice.

I was in Charleston for the Wine and Food Festival and we went to Pane e Vino.   The ambiance was warm though slightly outdated.   The salad came drenched in oil and the bruschetta was soggy.   One person in our party ordered the cioppino as it is her favorite.  This is where our meal went south.   It was very fishy and she decided on sending it back. This is where it turned into an bad episode of Kitchen Nightmares.   The owner came out angrily and said there was nothing wrong with it and said that he was not going to take it off the check.  WE REFUSED AND THE GUY ACTUALLY KICKED US OUT OF THE RESTAURANT.   My 9 year old niece who was with us said it best - "What does this guy want to do drive himself out of business?"  Unbelievable.   Well, I'd like to have a better story to get kicked out of the my first restaurant but all we did was not like one of this guys dishes.

another win on the crowded charleston charleston restaurant scene.  this place was delicious and has a beautiful outside seating area.  VERY moderately priced given the quality of the food and also compared to other charleston restaurants.

I've been here a couple times and can honestly say that my last time here sort of ruined it for me.

A word on the pros:  I really like the music that they have there live-- they bring in really talented musicians on a regular basis. The outdoor patio is also BEAUTIFUL!

The bad side: When I came back again during the week not so long ago, it was completely empty, sans about 4 tables (between 2 servers, mind you), however our completely disinterested server had trouble with remembering to do basic things, like bringing us the wine we ordered. I was annoyed when he a) didn't offer salt or pepper with our dishes, b) when he never came back to ask us how our food was,  and c) only brought the pepper I had asked for once my food was cold and I had only a bite left to eat. The SA (or other server? not sure) had to clear the table for him, while he wandered around aimlessly and seemed to completely avoid eye contact with us. He took forever to bring us back our check, which normally wouldn't have been a big deal if we had been drinking and enjoying our time there, but we were running late for a movie and needed to go.

The food was fine, but I honestly don't see it worth the hassle of having a server as indifferent as the one we had. To sum it up: great music, okay good, absolutely terrible service.

This place was amazing! Great ambiance...live music...nice waitresses...delicious food....  You have to try the gnocchi!

Getting a reservation was abnormal - you have to call, leave a message, and then they'll call you back - but all in all, i will definitely add this to my list of restaurants!

Atmosphere was A+. My wife and i sat outside in their covered courtyard. Tin roof, cool paintings, light strings around the place candles everywhere...its romantic. Everything else was less than average. Like some of the other reviews that speak of the dishes being tasteless that's what we experienced. The calamari is overshadowed by a huge bed of lettuce and is drizzled with balsamic vinegerette. I asked if they had marinara and the waitress said, "this is how they do it in Italy". Once we tried our ice cold bread I asked if they had hot bread and she said no it's room temp. It is what it is. Also, it should be noted that once we ordered our entrees we literally got them 3-4 min later. There's no way you can cook that fast without the micro (this was just our speculation)
    Atmosphere -A+
waitress food knowledge -D (she was in the clouds)
Food- C (our entrees were hot and had some taste)

My husband and I go here for date nights.  The place is very intimate and the food is wonderful.  We usually get a bottle of the house red and love it.  The cheese plates are great and with the exception of a dish or two (the fish or the Gnocchi with gorgonzola), I have never been disappointed.  I highly recommend the Ravioli in the cream sauce with asparagus.

It's a small Italian wine bar where they know what they're doing. The food was very tasty and the wine list is decent. The dining room is tiny--there are nine tables and five seats at the bar. Not to worry though, they have outside seating as well.

Their pappardelle al' antica, had a lot of interesting flavors in it (definitely not Italian-American), I liked it.

The food was good, though a little underspiced for my taste (for the pasta we tried.)  Prices are not bad for Charleston, and they have a good wine list.

"Small plates" of sundried tomatoes with capers in spicy olive oil, and hummus with radishes were great.

The wait staff were very friendly, and the ambiance of the restaurant is very good.

I went to Pane e Vino last Friday with my wife and six other friends.  We had a perfect table outside on the grove patio while a man was playing acoustic guitar.  Atmosphere & ambiance was excellent, service was slow but they we're really busy.  Salads were great starters and the pasta dishes are the way to go.  Reasonably priced and great times - highly recommend.

On Warren but right off King, this place is great for delicious, fresh Italian food. Every dish I have tried is full of flavor. I have always had attentive service and never been disappointed! It's cozy inside and has a romantic  patio.  This is one of my favorite places to eat in Charleston, the crustini with fig and gorgonzola is awesome!  I recommend this place to everyone I know who is looking for good quality food and service, reasonable prices for a nice place, and a wonderful dining experience!

Open on Sundays. Small and intimate.  House wine is good choice.
Special happened to be fresh grouper which was delicious and appetizer was calamari which was also very good.
The most lacking part of the meal was the bread.
For an Italian restaurant, the bread was disappointing.  It lacked taste and texture.

I was so excited to visit Pane e Vino at last. All it takes is an evening stroll past this adorable little ristorante, with its cinnamon-colored courtyard and tiny white lights everywhere, to prompt a visit. Unfortunately, my experience last night fell short of my admittedly high expectations.

The atmosphere was everything I could have desired. A cool evening, swoony lighting, soft music. And the service was nearly impeccable (though I never got the S & P I so desperately needed). But my entree, the spaghetti ai gamberi (tomato sauce with crab and shrimp) was flat and boring, nearly tasteless. I needed some salt just to remind myself that I had tastebuds at all.  Not all of the entrees were so lifeless, though; my friend got the spinach ravioli special with prosciutto and scallops. It teemed with flavor, layer upon layer, almost too much. And the arugula salad with a round of goat cheese topped with fig molasses delighted us all. But the eggplant appetizer was bland and rubbery, a little amateur. The mussels they brought my poor bivalve-loving friend were, in her words, "the size of raisins."  Sorry, there's just no excuse for that. I really want this restaurant to be better, and I'll definitely be back, because they got so much right. But the food was a classic case of hit and miss.

This restaurant is a hidden treasure downtown. The food is excellent and the ambiance is even better. If you have a large group, you'll have to eat outdoors but the patio is very sweet and intimate just like the restaurant. This restaurant has it all: great atmosphere, fabulous service, and even better food.

Enjoyed dinner here very much - found myself comparing it favorably to some of my favorite Italian restaurants in NYC, noting the authenticity. None of the waiters I encountered speak a lick of Italian - a bit of a disappointment/red flag for me, but the chef certainly did through his mussels.  Would have appreciated the Insalata Caprese without vinegar, and a bit more attentive on the service - but I realized immediately it's a place for locals and they didn't know me.  Oh....but they will.  Looking forward to returning!  Mangia!

What a cool, little hidden gem of a place.  You could drive by it 100 times and not even notice it was there.  My kind of place!  Service was impeccable, never been waited on like that before. We got to sit outside in the courtyard, which was very nice, and it wasn't too hot. The street noise was a little annoying, but after a while didn't really notice it. The portions weren't as big as I would have liked, which brought it down to 4 stars, but the price was decent enough that it didn't really bother me. It's pretty much in line with what you pay at Carraba's or somewhere like that, but it's all local seafood and it's a local business, so it's worth it. I think the most expensive thing was around $25, but the majority was between $10-$17. Food was pretty good and fresh. They have a huge wine list, but I'm not much a wine drinker, so it didn't really matter to me.  Definitely a great place for an intimate dinner with your special lady or man, which ever you prefer.

Never been so disrespected in my life. I took my wife out to vino to treat her to something special, and was asked if we had a reservation. i did not and the owner proceeded to suggest the bar. I IMMEDIATELY left and walked back by, after receiving A++ service at Halls, to see the restaurant no where near capacity. DISRESPECTFUL service and I refuse to recommend a place that does't respect patrons.

My best friend and I have a love affair with Pane e Vino.  Sure we know the owner and she did help decorate before it opened, but even if we didn't it would still be our go-to place for dinner out.  The caprese is always fresh, and a great way to start your meal, and Masi will always come around with a good wine selection.  The prices are good and even if you're on a tight budget the apps pretty filling.  My favorite thing to order is one of their soups of the day (aparagus and arugla has been the best yet!!) and the smoked duck app.  The duck comes in a sort of italian style quesadilla, with crisp flat bread and melted fontina; absolutley to die for!!!  I love that Pane E Vino is tucked away on a quiet street in a building that you would never guess houses great authentic Italian.  This place is such a gem, and if you can find it I recommend if nothing else stopping in for a glass of wine.

Came here one night for a late dinner.  The food was great, but the service was slow.  The waiter acknowledge his slowness and gave us our drinks for free...I didn't even have to complain about it.  For apps we had the charcuterie and the bruschetta, both were excellent.  I only wish I had more people with me so I could add more to the meat plate.  They have a great selection of wines.  I can't remember what we ordered for entrees, but they were very good.  Parking is on the street.  We easily found parking on the intersecting street at a meter.  Prices are very reasonable.

Pane e Vino is a great place to go for a 50 dollar dinner that feels like a 100 dollar dinner.  Atmosphere is awesome (side street). Seemed to be a favorite hidden secret with the locals. I have been to alot of restaurants so would say it would be impossible to say it was the best meal I ever had, but it gets 5 stars from me without a doubt when combining price, atmosphere, quality of meal and service.
