i must admit that what draws my family to Panda Hut Express is the fact that there are numerous B1G1 free coupons available in both the Entertainment Book and SUTP Coupon Book.  (And I must admit that without the coupons I would probably give them 3 stars as I think their prices are a little high.)

We regularly stop by for an order to go after shopping in South Common before heading home.  We usually order Wor Won Ton Soup - filled with lots of veggies - broccoli, bok choy, baby corn, carrots; prawns, various meats - chicken , bbq pork; and won tons of course!  I have to say that I find their won tons to be a little bit on the softer side so I'm not such a fan of the soup as leftovers but my husband and toddler devour it and love it as left overs!  We usually also have the Lemongrass Shirmp Combo - comes with fried rice and house chow mein.  We quite like their fried rice but find their house chow mein a little on the bland side.

This location used to be a Burger King (?) so they have an indoor play structure for kids and a drive thru!  (Pics uploaded)

Definitely fresh tasting and the stir fried items (what we order) are never greasy!  If you're on the south side give them a try - they are open late (11-11 most days).

In my ongoing search for a decent Chinese restaurant, I decided to give Panda Hut their turn at the plate. (Anyone see what I did there?)

Price-wise, not too bad - about $10 a dish.  For that $10, though, you get a generous amount of food, and even better, this joint actually puts meat in the meat dishes.  Ordered the kung pao chicken, and imagine my surprise when I opened up the container and the first thing I saw was.........CHICKEN!!!  With most of the other restaurants I've been to, you have to launch a search and rescue mission to find any protein in their dishes.  Damned vegetarians are taking over, I tell ya....

The food didn't give me that greasy, "oh God, where's the Pepto!?" feeling that is sadly far too common with Chinese food, but I did find it to be a little bland.

I was heading home the other day and decided to try Panda Hut Express. Sure enough, the claimed drive-thru window was here. I couldn't believe it when they told me it was open until 11. If you're looking for some quick Chinese food, this is the place to go. Everything is made quickly and tastes great...for fast food Chinese that is.

They have a wide selection of menu items...perhaps a compilation of all fast food Chinese places rolled into one menu. They also offer party trays as well, which are good for 12 to 32 people.  You basically choose the menu items yourself, and they will make enough for the selected amount of people. Obviously the more people you have, the cheaper the meal works out to be. It's much cheaper than pizza, and just as filling.

If you want to try something new, you can order your food online. I have not tried this out myself, but I am definitely curious. There are also daily specials from Monday to Thursday. If you're in the south side and crazy cheap (and quick) Chinese food, Panda Hut Express should be on your list.

I love the food that is offered at Panda Hut Express, and I love the fact that there is a drive-thru here. Whoever heard of a chinese restaurant with a drive thru?

The drive-thru does take a while, so it seems rather pointless, but I guess it is good for lazy people who don't want to get out of their cars. The food always tastes fresh, and the prices are pretty decent. I love their ginger beef.

The one thing that sort of bugs me about this place is that they claim that their food is healthy. I have a hard time believing that the deep fried ginger beef I am enjoying, is good for me. I hope that people are smart enough to look past this claim and realize that the healthy food only applies to the steamed veggies and other steamed, poached or boiled food...

Panda Hut Express' claim to fame is being the only Chinese restaurant in Edmonton - likely in all of Western Canada - to have a drive-through window. Yes, that is right - every day until 11:00 p.m. you can enjoy fresh, hot Chinese food without ever having to get out of your car. The different meal combinations are presented on a large board just like a fast food restaurant, you give your order, pay the the window, and within around five minutes your order will be ready. I had the lemon chicken combo which included chicken fried rice, noodles, vegetables, and a generous amount of lemon chicken. For under ten dollars, I had more food than I could finish. Beverages are extra. Other meal ideas include beef and seafood, and even a vegetarian combo with tofu. If you like sauces, you'll have to pay a few cents extra for hoisin, fish sauce, and pretty much any other sauce that goes with Asian food. Panda Hut Express also has a dining area in the restaurant, and delivers. It is a shame there is only one location in Edmonton way on the south side.
