Palais Royale is one of the TOP venues in the city and it's a shame that more concerts aren't scheduled here. I have seen many a DJ here and I believe that the annual Fake Prom was also held here in 2008. But my most memorable time at Palais Royale was seeing two back-to-back Godspeed You! Black Emperor shows in 2002. It was the last time I got to see the band perform live as they're now on permanent hiatus so those shows will always be special to me.

Anyway, the venue is in a beautiful spot right along Lake Shore/Lake Ontario and easy to get to if you live in the High Park neighbourhood as I do. I wish more bands would play in this wonderful spot!

This is more FYI than a review, so don't hate me!

Came here for dancing on Wednesday night during the summer. They have a themed dancing night on the waterfront with dinner if you are so inclined. Cover is $15 without dinner. Sounds awesome right?!

It's outdoors on the patio, tented - not inside the ballroom which I expected and I know they have a large dance floor.

The crowd here is 40+ and people come in groups. We only observed from afar, as we were considering joining them, but felt intimidated a little even though we are dancers! I guess because the dance floor was so small, and tables with seated folks all around, it just didn't have the vibe we were hoping for.

I think this would the perfect place to come with a bunch of friends that like to dance, have dinner and dance the night away. The crowd wouldn't matter at that point. As stragglers who don't really fit in with crowd (and it started raining) we turned away.

I think it would be better if the dance floor was bigger, or if they had cleared the tables at some point (which I've been told they don't)

The music sounded fun though. Swing, Rock and Roll etc. It's advertised as Top 40, Disco and Salsa.

This place might even be a 5, but my judgement is a bit wine influenced, and also skewed because the event i went to was AWESOME. So I'm giving the actual space a solid 4.
It was my first time to Palais Royale last night for a yearly event called Fake Prom (have a mentioned yet that it was AWESOME?!) A bunch of us cabbed it, but a couple of us drove (don't worry not ME) and there was also a little lot right across the street in between Lakeshore East bound and West bound. It was kind of an abandoned looking space and we didn't pay anything. Bonus!
As previously mentioned, I arrived with an entire bottle of red wine already flowing through my veins, but from what i remember, and from the random pics i took, the space was amazing! Yes, the actual dancefloor area was on the small side, but there weren't a lot of tables set up and people were dancing everywhere.
What really knocked my socks off (or pantyhose on this occasion) was the patio area. WOW! So much outdoor space, mostly covered, with a fantastic view, right on the water. Lots more space for people to mingle and get a little fresh air and a little less music blasting in their ears.
I can't wait to go there again for another event!

    I GOT MARRIED HERE.

So obviously, I'm biased.. Still, as a paying customer, I was extremely satisfied. The renovations have restored Palais to its original lustre and the improvements to the restrooms, decor and kitchen are extremely upgraded to make this place a classy, #1 Ballroom.

Steffan Howard is the Executive Chef and he endeavours to use only local, organic products, which is rare in a banquet setting. His staff prepare super high-quality meals for 200+ guests, but each plate is cared for as if you were out for a dinner for two. The presentation is fabulous and the flavours exquisite..

The bartenders are really fast and add a certain pinache to their work. Tim Fray does one hell of a job as supervisor and head of the A/V department.

If you are looking for the greatest ballroom in town for your wedding or private event, look no further. Palais Royale offers first-rate service, quality product, class and stunning location/views that will wow your guests. Guaranteed.

I actually think it's been renovated since I was last (and only) there, but the Palais Royale of my memory is a glorious place.

I was there to see Echo and the Bunnymen, and I remember it being something damn near majestic. In the warm weather, waiting in line was practically a pleasure, with the water as a backdrop, and the beautiful purple lights highlighting its very lovely exterior. It seemed far too breathtaking for a simple rock and roll show, but the show certainly met these expectations.

The swanky renovations pictured probably don't invite the raucousness of the devil's music all that much anymore. Though I keep waiting to be brought back there (much like the Danforth Music Hall).

I was fortunate to have been a guest at Palais Royale for a conference. I cant judge the event space based on the conference, but what I can do is judge the bones of the space and food.
The space has a capacity of 800, very contemporary, and has all of the attributes of a great event hall! The ladies and men's room were well equipped with plenty of stalls ( well I didn't actually go in the ladies room, but I heard it was nice), and the extra spaces - such as the outdoor patio - which is huge and overlooks beautiful Lake Ontario ( insert comment here), and the front lounges offer a great alternative to mingle with guests and get away from the big show.
The staff were polite, efficient, and were completely professional at all times.
The food was traditional pasta's, salads, chicken and rice. It was fresh, and generally pretty good. The bar offered drinks - both non alcoholic and alcoholic. Since I didn't foot the bill for the event, I would have to say it is a great space for any mid size event.
There is free parking - not kidding! The only problem is that it really isn't close to anything - and there is no public transportation nearby.

The Palais Royale was a hall back in the 40s and 50s and was recently restored to its original luster as a private hall. The parties I've attended are hit or miss, the best one was definitely one a few years back for Gay Pride that Denise Benson threw. The sound system is decent and the staff is okay. The real beauty of the place is the actual building itself and the patio at the back that looks out over the lake. It's probably awesome for a wedding though I've never been.
