Painting is a pain in the tin can and we all know it.  A fresh layer of Hell is spending all that time prepping and priming only to find out that your paint ain't covering worth a damn.  With this in mind, when I'm ready to invest the time and make the effort, I want to go to someone who will fully advise me if I have any questions and will make sure I get the exact paint I need to do what I need to do.

I can say without a second's hesitation that Paint Depot is the place.  The staff who work there are excellent.  They go above and beyond customer service wise.  Take this example for instance.  When an employee found out I was on foot and planning to drag home two big cans of paint, he actually offered to help me carry the paint... he wasn't fazed when I told him my house is not exactly around the corner.  The offer stood.  Now that's service plus!

In regards to selection and pricing, I think they are well stocked and very competitive.  I do like the meticulous records they keep of past purchases.  It makes life a lot easier when you want to do touch ups but have no clue what colour or finish you used.

On a whim I called this paint store at 7:45am Friday morning thinking I'd get their answering service with a breakdown of their opening hours - imagine my surprise when someone answered! I did a double take thinking I'd accidentally dialed someone's home number. But no, they just open THAT early. Every day (except Sunday). 7:30am. Wow!

I'm the type of person that doesn't know their eggshell from their matte or latex to oil. I literally have no clue what I'm doing, and I rely on a crew of trusty pals to do my painting for me while I stand around and supervise...err...feed them bevvies and cinnamon buns.

Today was such a day. I walked into Paint Depot with two colours in mind that I'd picked swatches for at Canadian Tire. I showed them the swatches and asked if they had any similar colours in their brands, and they one upped me: "Why don't we just mix you these exact colours?" They asked me what types of rooms I was painting and assessed my quality needs (their paint comes in three grades).

Ten minutes later I had one gallon each of "Egg Blue" and "Fresh Cut Grass." They took note of my home phone number in the event that I ever needed to pick up additional paint, they'd have my details right in the system.

And by "ever" I mean when I realized at 3:50pm (10 minutes before they closed for the rest of the long weekend) that I was about to run out of paint and needed an extra quart. I called in the order, zipped over and it was already waiting for me. Now that's service!

NOTE: Always buy more than you think you'll need, especially if you're a dink like me and don't prime your walls - you'll almost certainly need to do two coats!

This place is the best paint store I have ever gone to and continue to buy all my paint here anytime I have a job to do.  The staff is amazing and really know their stuff.  They are always happy to help you, even if you don't know what you're doing.

Best experience was when I was renovating my bathroom and walked in with nothing more than a floor tile.  They spent a long time walking me through all the available options until I found something I liked.  Their top secret weapon is that the have a huge collection of their most popular colour choices painted on large canvases so you can actually see what the colour will look like on a wall rather than a small swatch.

Extra bonus points go to the fact that they keep all your info on file which makes it really easy to call ahead for re-orders or when you need to do a touch up job years after you remember what the name of the paint was.

Prices are very reasonable and they'll take care of all your supply needs.  They are open early in the morning and late into the evening.    Pro tip: use their back parking lot and come in through the back door to avoid parking on Queen.

Wow.  This is a reason why small business can indeed compete amongst big warehouses full of monkeys.

Knowledge, product, service.  Stained my deck with their advice.  It turned out well, even though it was more work than I had anticipated (spray and walk).

The right product, the perfect volume, a reasonable price, all the tools to apply the thing, parking (out back), early open.  They keep my paints on record as well, as they have for our housing group.  Couldn't be easier.

Nice person, too.  These guys perfected everything.

I won't buy paint from anyone else, anywhere in the city. It's that simple. In the 10 years Ive been going to them, I have painted one house and two apartments (the later being waaaaay across the city in Parkdale). They keep everything on file, are super friendly, accommodating and perhaps most importantly, they are PATIENT with colour-phobes such as I was when I first started going to them). I love that several years on, I can rock up, ask for "the colour I painted my living room on Empire" and they will know what it was (and if it's since been discontinued by the manufacturer, they will make it up from scratch.).

I've been using Paint Depot for about 10 years now. I send my clients there because I know they'll be treated with kid gloves. Why? Because they treat everyone like that. There's no attitude in this paint store. What there is is the best paint advice in the city and everything you need for your project.
They also keep all your and my clients paints listed by address then by the room. So I can call and say "What colour did I used at... in the master bedroom and basement?" And, just like magic, they have all the info there. No other paint store has been able to provide this service for me and my clients. Kudos to you Paint Depot, we very much appreciate it.

these guys are so smart.  why? because whether i need paint or not, whether i ever will paint or not, i always look forward to what i will see in the window display of this place.  why is that smart? its smart because how the hell do you distinguish yourself from other neighbourhood paint businesses, and from corporate giants like home depot?  you make window displays that are filled with so much dedication and spirit that you can be sure the folks inside are just as devoted to serving you well.

indeed, as you enter paint depot, your wish comes true.  the depot has all that you will need to beautify your space including a couple of environmentally safe paint companies.  this is a family owned business with another location on o'connor avenue and with that intimacy comes dedicated knowledge and a personal touch.

this is exemplified in at least two ways.  firstly, how many times have you gone to buy paint and not been happy with the colour you chose because it looks different dried on your wall versus the swatch or even the dollop thats dropped on the top of cans? its happened enough times for me that i appreciate the small canvases that theyve painted with their most popular  colours so you can see what it will really look like.  the texture of the canvases are extremely close the the finish youll find on a properly painted wall.  whats more, they also offer small tubs about as big as a large soup takeout container that have popular colours in them you can try out on your wall so you dont have to waste money should it not be perfect.

secondly, to make the experience more perfect, in addition to the technology used to match colours to swatches or to samples youve brought in, the folks here finish the colour mixing by eye, like a painter would.  this way you have someone ironing out the loop holes that you are left with when only using computer specs to mix.

it is these aspects as well as the friendliness of the staff that would make me come here for all my painting needs, where i can get knowledge and expertise from people who have worked at this for years versus the lukewarm help youll get at a home depot or the like.
