With the temperature dipping, I have recently found myself wearing my slippers all the more! Waking up on a slightly chilly/dark/dank day is hard for anyone let alone someone like me who is firmly established in the 'not a morning person' camp. This essentially means I walk around squinting like a baby bat, inadvertently dragging my feet from room to room attempting to wake up...

I had started noticing a month ago that my slippers were therefor starting to wear through the sole and figured: maybe a better made pair will do the trick? No such luck- my not so new slippers wore quickly enough to nearly warrant a trip back to the shop, crappy slippers in tow.

For this reason, I was really pleased when I saw  Padraig slippers at my local Whole Food Market. Since WFM tends to have questionable pricing, I decided to check around for a website/location. My Mama was in quick supply of an answer stating that she had recently bough a pair of slips for my 4 year old cousin from Padraig Cottage. Delighted, I called up today to check for store hours. I was informed that Padraig Cottage is only open every Friday (except this one, Nov. 12) 12-5. Saddened, I figured i'd check at WFM for my size and colour as I did not particularly want to go slip-less for most of November.

Fortunately for me, I found a beautiful pair of original Women's slippers in forest stripe. I was somewhat confused as to how these slippers are being sold for the exact same price online/at the shop? (who knows, it's open with the frequency of a lemonade stand) as they are at Whole Foods... Kinda strange. I would have preferred to purchase at the shop as I can only assume WF is getting a cut of my slipper purchasing dough and those guys are rich enough!

A word about process: Padraig is a locally owned and operated business, providing jobs to some 30 artisans and support staff. Local wool is used where possible and the leather/sheepskin is recycled although tanned. yeay for recycling! boo for tanning.

Needless to say I am VERY happy with my new slippers and confident that having spent a tad more for quality, these slippers will last through the winter; keeping my toes nice and toasty!
