Review from Jessie Z.
Fantastic! This place was really everything the reviews said it is. I know why it's ranked in the top 3 hotels in San Diego.
The staff is super duper friendly and helpful. They have great food suggestions and are just overall nice folks.
The location could not be better. It's on a fantastic side street very close to everything but it's not in the middle, it's honestly the perfect combination of both! You can walk to all the restaurants, bars and beach but you don't hear it.
The pool outback is right along the boardwalk which you would think would be busy or a little weird but it's pretty nice - great people watching and it's not super duper crowded. The views from the pool are awesome as well - great sun sets.
When we arrived, we asked on the off chance they may have a larger room and we were upgraded with a minimal fee. AWESOME!
I can't wait to go back here - I don't think we will stay anywhere else. -

We stayed here again over Thanksgiving weekend and had a great time. I wanted to write an update to take note of the exceptional customer service I received. I booked two rooms and requested that we receive the room in which we previously stayed. When we arrived, we were disappointed to find out that the hotel was sold out and our previous room was not available. We were booked into two nearby rooms, which would have been fine except that our guest staying in the second room was very upset that his room was near the elevator and the parking garage exit. I went back to the front desk and asked if they could change his room. I was fairly stressed out, but the front desk manager went out of her way to accomodate us and offered to upgrade us to a family suite with an ocean view. I couldn't believe it. This level of customer service is tough to find anywhere and it made our weekend a great one.
All weekend long every single person working at the hotel treated us like gold. I cannot say enough about how great the staff is at this hotel.
Also--The hotel breakfast is a great deal at $5.25 per person. They make fresh omelets and the pastries were delicious. Free WiFi is a big plus, too.
I already can't wait for my next visit.1 Previous Review: Show all »

I always get home sick when I'm in a hotel, but not with this one!! I did not want to leave!!! It was so clean and comfortable. The staff were amazing!! We had a full ocean view and were able to listen to the ocean all night. My only issue were the drunks leaving the bars nearby. They would walk on the board walk screaming/ talking loud until 3am. It had nothing to.do with the actual hotel. When we woke up the next morning there were pods of dolphins playing in the ocean. It was such an awesome experience. Its now the only place I will ever stay at in San Diego.

Excellent accommodations. Easy access to the beach and close enough to the action to walk to it, but far enough away to not hear it. This is my favorite place to stay, with family, in Pacific Beach.

If I was staying in Pacific Beach and did not feel like staying at the Banana Bungalow hostel I would usually stay at the Pacific Terrace Hotel. It is a nice hotel, the rooms are nice and clean, and the water views are great. One of the times I stayed here with a few friends and we had a room with a balcony view of the water, sitting on the balcony in the morning and drinking coffee was great! It is not that far from Garnet Avenue, walking distance. If you are walking back to this hotel from the bars and clubs on Garnet you can also stop at the late night taco shop on the way back! If you do not like walking in the dark a cab ride will be cheap!

Beautiful hotel with great views and nice rooms BUT a mouse was in our room the first night. After that, there really isn't much that can turn it around except for some type of comp from the hotel. I so want to rate this hotel higher because it is nice in a great location but yuck! It is also a bit pricey for the accommodations. I would have rather rented a beach house.

This newly renovated hotel works for me. The trip was a birthday gift.
The pluses outweighed the cons but I'll disclose a few blemishes:
- You drive through a questionable street block before arriving at the hotel.
- The breakfast - overpriced, but if hungry, food's food - can't be picky. I suggest saving leftovers from a great restaurant or buy something from a market to store in your mini refrigerator.
- The white sheets although washed, did have a few permanent stains (I would have rated this a 5 if I didn't see stains)
Now the Pluses:
+ My room was spacious, really nice and super clean, especially the bathroom and shower.
+ I found street parking and saved $$ on valet
+ It's a great place to getaway for 'me time" or as a romantic getaway.
+ Very warm, attentive and friendly staff.
+ Fresh bowl of apples and cookies throughout the day.
+ I would return.
I didn't have the ocean view and kept my shutters closed to avoid looking into a parking lot. So yes, if view matters, choose a room with the ocean view. I read so I didn't mind blocking the world out. -

Love this hotel. Stayed here for a week in August. The view is just incredible, the weather in San Diego obviously is tremendous...the service is great. One thing about this area I don't really prefer is the valet-only parking but every hotel is like that. I tend to go out 7 or 8 times a day and it gets old asking for my keys and having to give the guy a $10 tip every time.
I also left my $300 pillow there by mistake, and instead of stealing it, one of the maids had the front desk call my cell phone and they said they would ship it to me next-day for free. I told them to give the maid a $50 tip and put it on my card, and they did. -

Loved it! It is a very nice hotel with a small, intimate feeling. I will def stay here again. We stayed in a junior suite (I found the great rate on their website under specials). We had a patio over the ocean and slept with the door open to hear the waves all night.
The rooms are decorated really nice, they have turndown service, and dont mind if you stay on the property all day the day you check out to use the pool, parking, and bathrooms.
You can walk to everything including food and shopping. I will book my next trip to SD here. -

Wow. I guess I've really only seen the bars side of PB, and never really thought there was a more elegant touch to Pacific Beach. This place was incredible--comfortable room, great view, very supportive and pleasant staff. If you're looking to stay in PB or if you live in San Diego and want a staycation, this is a great place.

Big Bear Lake, CA
Our favorite hotel anywhere. And we own lodging. Nice big rooms with ocean sunset views, on a cliff on the beach. Great service, top quality, nice pool and spa, parking under the hotel. Walk on the beach or boardwalk to plenty of food spots, especially Kono's for breakfast.

Review from Matt t.
Woodinville, WA
The Pacific Terrace defines itself by its four star rating, however, the condition of the hotel, lack of fitness facilities and mediocre front desk staff might be found in a Best Western and not a property defined by four star luxury.
The views are quite nice and the pool facilities are not as nice as the Marriott in San Diego but nicely maintained. It is a real pleasure to swim while listening to waves crashing on the shore some 200 yards below.
The rooms are what you might expect in a Best Western but have disguised the inside with plank boards on the ceiling and furniture so large that as a six foot guy I literally have to jump down from the bed onto a carpet that has seen better days or a few homicides...not really sure what that pattern is or if it is a collection of brown stains on what was a golden carpet with palm trees or something...
Point is, the rooms are barely adequate and could use a significant updating and please would somebody take-out the stinky 1970's carpet!
All gratuitous, however, rightly deserved comments aside the assistant manager has been very accommodating and the service staff has been very kind and clearly takes a lot of pride in their work.
I was hesitantly recommend this Hotel for the views, sounds of the ocean at night and generally fun place for a family to hang-out for a few days. Business travelers will not find this Hotel akin to the Omni, Marriott or Hard Rock in town with its slow internet access and lack of a (real) fitness facility....and no a 12 by 12 foot room in the parking garage is not a gym just because the placard on the wall states, "fitness facility!"
Also, for those of us that travel and are well adapted..ok maybe spoiled...by four star accomodations I was taken with the fact that coffee was not available at 6 am and apparently nobody is in til 7:30 am and I was very nicely offered a free coffee packet.
Well I think that sums it up I was offered a free coffee packet at this beautifully situated non four star hotel.Listed in: Poseurs and the Imposters

I have stayed in hotels in Pacific Beach before, but was very impressed with the Pacific Terrace Hotel on this visit. The entire staff was friendly and helpful, addressing me by name on several occasions. The rooms have a Tommy Bahama feel to them, and were clean and well stocked with extra towels on the vanity. The location is excellent and for the price is the best place to stay on Pacific Beach, there is no restaurant, per se, however, the restaurant has 'charge to room' privileges at some of the nearby restaurants. I will definitely return since it is walking distance to some great bars and restaurants in the area, making it an excellent hotel for a relaxing getaway to the beach.

If your going to stay here, spend the extra money and get the "Full Ocean View". This is a great Hotel wit very friendly staff ( I would be very friendly if I went to work on the beach everyday too) The only things I thought they could improve on was the paid parking and no free breakfast but other than that I loved the Pacific Terrace Hotel.

My wife and I stayed here with some friends a number of years ago. We were in town for business and decided to stay a couple of additional days for fun. We stopped at the PTH to see if they had rooms available and they did. We got a great rate and was upgraded to an Executive Suite for the 2nd night...we love this place. The staff is so helpful and friendly.

We stayed here for our mini-honeymoon and loved every minute we were here. We had an oceanfront view on the third floor which was fabulous. It was nice to sleep with the sliding door open and hear the ocean at all times.
All of the staff (and I mean ALL) were extremely pleasant and helpful.
The location of the hotel was great too since there were lots of places to eat/drink/people watch, and being right next to the beach is key.
Next time we go to San Diego, I won't hesitate to book a room here. -

My boyfriend booked the presidential suite at this beautiful boutique hotel right in the middle of Pacific Beach for our anniversary. The view from our room was absolutely amazing, and the staff at this hotel was probably the most accommodating of any hotel staff I have ever encountered. They were SOOOOO nice.
We had hoped for an early check in, but they were still cleaning our room when we got there, so we hung out by the pool and sipped lemonade and tea while we waited. We didn't get to check in until a little after 4:00PM.
There's happy hour between 4-7PM (I think) & you get a complimentary glass of wine. Our suite was huge, and we really enjoyed the view from the balcony in our room. I loved the huge whirlpool tub. The pool closes at 10, so you have basically all day to take advantage of it. There's even turndown service in the evening and they bring you chocolate with it. We skipped the turndown service, however, and just opted for the chocolates :)
Pacific Terrace Hotel is right on the beach and walking distance from lots of shops and restaurants.
Amazing hotel & wonderful service. I would definitely stay here again.Listed in: Travel

(This is a review for our stay during 9/2006)
Comfortable room and amenities. Tommy Bahama-esque decor. We had a premium ocean view room/king suite. TV over the jacuzzi tub, in the bedroom, and in the livingroom (so you wouldn't miss any moment of whatever you're watching, I guess). Plenty of storage space for two ppl to hang out clothes and whatnot. Gorgeous spacious double sink bathroom. Internet was $10+ a day and they lend you the ethernet cable. Parking was $15/day---good idea---we didn't feel comfortable leaving our car out, even though the area looked nice and safe.
Our suite had two good-sized balconies that offered very good view as well as privacy for sitting out and relaxing. We could see the pool from the balcony for the bedroom but noise wasn't a problem indoors. We loved being able to watch the sun go down, ppl walking on the beach, and hear the waves throughout the night (sliding doors open, shutters on). Good-sized livingroom with dining set, kitchen, plasma TV, sofa set, and workspace. In fact, it was more than adequate room for the two of us. It felt like a home away from home, not a hotel stay.
Room service was decent, not spetacular, and they forgot the grapefruit I ordered...but it was so comfortable and enjoyable we didn't mind. We loved our stay. So relaxing. Glad we chose it for (my first) visit to the San Diego area.
Definitely would stay here again. Would recommend it too. -

What a fantastic hotel and staff! We were in San Diego in October for a bachelorette celebration....I'm talking 18 girls ready to drink, party, be loud, and let loose!
Beautiful, clean hotel and surroundings. Our room was a suite and slept 6-7 people very comfortably...the bathroom and the balcony was HUGE. The pool and hot tub face the beach and have comfy chairs to lounge on. The Pacific Beach is a hop skip away. We couldn't have been happier.
The staff was always bend-over-backwards accommodating and polite and offered great advice on area shopping, food, bars, etc. They were even kind enough to split the hotel bills among 18 girls at the very end....God bless 'em!
I'll definitely be back to Pacific Terrace/the Pacific Beach area when I return to San Diego. -

We have only positive things to say about this hotel. We booked the cheapest non-ocean view room when we called to reserve, and when we checked in, they upgraded us to an ocean-view room free-of-charge (worth about $150 more what our original room cost).
The staff was extremely friendly, helpful and cheery. The room was beautiful and we felt like we were in a special resort on a tropical island. We especially loved the balcony overlooking the ocean, the large flat-screen tv, the iPod docking station, the refrigerator, the robes, the nice-smelling bath products, and the chocolates they left on the bed every day! Oh, and the free glass of wine you get when you arrive, delivered right to your room.
This hotel is the best, and it's in a perfect location. We have already recommended it to others, and will certainly stay there again next time. -

I would give this place 5 stars but;
-$20 for parking
-They don't have the continental breakfast anymore
-They don't have the pool side happy hour anymore
-If you need any info from the Manager you can never get a call or email back.
We have stayed here 8 times in the last year and a half and we love this place. Book threw http://hotels.com. Always book last minute for fall, spring and winter. The prices go down from $270 a night to $80 a night (cheapest we have seen).
Check in late. They will upgrade you from a basic room (they will all be booked) into a better room. We got the presidential sweet one time which is usually like $1000 a night.Comment from Julie G. of Pacific Terrace Hotel 10/23/2009

We just stayed at the pacific terrace for the weekend. It was our anniversary and we booked an
oceanfront room with a king bed. It had a great view and was nicely decorated. The rooms are good size with a mini kitchen. The
boardwalk was fun to people watch from our balcony. The pool area and jacuzzi were in good shape, as was everything at the hotel. the staff were helpful and friendly. The beds are so comfortable. There was lots of street parking, so we saved 20.00 a day on parking. It was a spulrge but worth every penny! -

I live locally and get rooms at Pacific Terrace when I have friends and family visit from out of town. Great rooms, wonderful pool, everything first class all the way. No restaurant or bar that I am aware of, but with so many places just a short walk down the beach, why would you want to eat hotel food anyway.

Pacifc Terrace was the hotel of choice for my 4 day getaway to San Diego. Located right on top of Pacific Beach, this place is definately the place to stay at compared to the other places in PB. I had booked one of the Executive Suites, because hey.. i like big rooms, and this one had a jacuzzi. Our room, located on the 2nd floor, had a view of the ocean as well as the big building across the street. 2 queen beds, a 42" plasma, microwave, sink, spacious bathroom... everything you want from a hotel.
There's really nothing bad I can say about this hotel; the staff was pleasant, the rooms were nice, housekeeping didn't come until the time I specified.
There is Parking underground and they charge $15 a night. I would definately spring for that, since the outside parking is not really that safe.. Breakfast comes with the room, although we decided to go to other places in PB to eat.
I would definately come back here again, for my next trip in SD, mebbe I'll go for an even bigger room... -

The location is unbeatable and the rooms are very nice. My only complaint is the parking is too expensive.
If you book last minute they usually have "special" prices which range from $130-$170.

Very, very nice hotel. We stayed 2 nights here to relax after 5 days of Disney, Universal, etc. The rooms are nicely decorated and beds were comfortable. The pool area was nice and access to the beach is excellent. The staff treat you right. Only reason for 4 starts instead of 5 stars: $20 per night to park. Adding that in, along with taxes pushed the room rate to over $300 a night.

there is a $20 parking surcharge which they don't tell you about when booking online.

Me and my boyfriend went for a mini Vacation, I had researched hotels all over San Diego and this one stood out . We arrived early to avoid traffic, our room wasn't ready (which was fine, we were 4 hrs early) the Concierge gave us a temp key for the hotel, directions for the pool, and parked the car. Note*** 20 dollars a day valet parking sooo worth it, in and out privileges and our car was ready by the time we got to the lobby. Our room was ready an hour early. The bellman brought up our luggage, cooler ect ect. We stayed in the St. Croix Suite 3rd floor center of the hotel, stunning view of the beach, sunset was breathtaking, Jacuzzi tub that was more than roomy. The entire experience was great and I can't think of a single downside.

Here is the wonderful hotel I stayed at in San Diego - the http://www.PacificTerr... ... right on the beach, small boutique style with impeccable service and fantastic rooms. This is a very nice and clean hotel. The jacuzzi and pool are heated appropriately, making Winter swimming possible. The views are incredible, and the staff is very friendly. Their room service is actually food from two neighboring restaurants so it's a bit unique in that way. Compared to the Del Coronado, it is much quieter, and relaxing. I can't imagine staying on the island.

This is by far my one of my favorite hotels in all of San Diego. If you want to be right on the ocean in Pacific Beach, with a pool, hot-tub, great sunsets, outstanding staff, many bars and restaurants within walking distance, a boardwalk you can walk or bike up and down all day, this is the place for you.

a hotel is a hotel, they are all the same, why bother writing a review about one, they are all the same aren't they? how wrong i was this time.
i actually stumbled across this place last minute to get a room - i mean last second - i just got off an overnight airplane and the taxi dropped me off on mission blvd and i was walking around at midnight looking for a pillow to rest my head.
i walked into the lobby, the concierge said i was lucky there was one room left - it had the following amenities blah blah blah wasn't even listening to him, a was about to go into a sleep deprivation coma.
i got into the room and noticed how huge it was. everything was so new. the decor was so nice. the bed was so high i practically needed a step stool to climb into it. wow that bed was soooo comfortable.
i woke up in the morning and noticed the most beautiful view of the ocean outside on the balcony. it felt like i was at a 5 star boutique resort in the caribbean!!!
the best part about it is you are paying holiday inn prices for a 5 star experience. next time i need to visit Pacific Beach i'll be booking this place in advance. -

San Diego, CA
After a very stressful period at work, I was in desperate need of a vacation and booked a flight to San Diego, on a whim. My friend had raved about Pacific Terrace Hotel on several occasions so I booked myself into the hotel and enjoyed the most relaxing 4 days away that I have ever experienced. Before I left, I was a little concerned about going away completely on my own (I'm single) and thought that I might get bored, but I knew that I needed the break and decided to go anyway. When I got to the hotel and saw how beautiful it was, that the beach-side pool was amazing and that cozy lounge chairs were just waiting for me to soak up some sun, that shops and places to eat were all within walking distance of the hotel, I realized I'd worried for nothing. Really, there was more relaxing, sight-seeing, shopping and eating than I could ever try to squeeze into my mini vacation so boredom wasn't even on the radar. Let me just say, that the staff at Pacific Terrace Hotel are the most helpful and friendly people I've ever met while staying at a hotel. They were more than happy to give suggestions as to what I should see and do and their top priority was making sure I enjoyed my time there. The hotel rooms are nicely decorated and very clean and I couldn't have been more comfortable. On my way to the airport to fly home, I made a pact with myself to return to Pacific Terrace Hotel once each year for a little rest and relaxation.

Fountain Valley, CA
I cannot get over how amazing this hotel is - the actual property and the staff - BOTH were WONDERFUL! The staff really bent over backwards to make you feel like you are a part of their family- always checking in on my hubby and I to see if we needed anything and ALWAYS greeting us, NO MATTER how early or late in the day was! AMAZING.
The hotel itself is pretty small, just 3 stories. The suite we were in was spacious and nicely decorated. The decor was like a beach theme but not the lame tropical tacky decor. It even came with a microwave, a small fridge (big enough to store our bottle of champagne), and also some dinnerware- plates, utensils, cups, etc.
Our balcony overlook the ocean and we slept with our balcony door open so we can listen to the waves crash... We seriously could not leave our bed! We ordered room service everyday and enjoyed our meals out on the balcony. We just did not want to leave our room!
EXCELLENT hotel! -

Love the comfy new beds, they are so tall they even supply you with a stepping stool to get into bed. I have stayed here about twenty times in the past, we like the proximity to our work. We love to stay at the Pacific Terrace even though we live in the S.D. area. We joke that people spend big bucks to visit here.

My then fiance/now husband got a room here just by chance when we arrived in San Diego a couple days earlier than expected following a cross country road trip. We booked the room on http://hotels.com the day before we arrived for a mere $120 (granted it was a Monday night in May) for the standard no-view room. Boy did we luck out!
This hotel was fantastic. We arrived right in time for "wine hour" by the pool (any place with free wine gets 5-stars in my book, but there's more!) , the room was HUGE, and the staff made a great recommendation to walk to Gringo's for dinner (it was 2 for 1 Monday Margarita night!). We relaxed in the jacuzzi that evening and spent the following day at the beach right in front of the hotel. Awesome!
We liked it so much we're hoping to get a room for our 1-year wedding anniversary/belated honeymoon coming up in August. I probably won't be able to get the deal I got last minute last time, but this hotel is definitely worth a little spending...
