I booked a room almost 6 months ago when I found out my bf was working at the Olympics. Later the rates dropped drastically since they are closing and I got to upgrade to a much nicer room for half the price. Definitely stay here if you are coming to town over the next few weeks!! This place is not to be missed and won't be around for much longer.
We pulled up and Trent was right outside helping us with our massive bags (snowboards, etc.). He was such a sweetheart from the first second we met him. We got checked in and they wished us a happy anniversary which was very sweet and hooked us up with a corner suite with the most AMAZING view of Stanley Park and the harbor. The balcony is giant and offered views in two directions. The sunset was TO DIE FOR.
Trent just went over and above to make sure we had everything we needed. He brought up our bags and took pics of us on the balcony. He got us a map of Stanley Park and wrote out a route for us to get the most sight seeing done in our time frame.
He also called a restaurant we wanted to check out and made reservations for us. He let them know it was our anniversary which was super sweet. Then when we got to dinner they said Trent wanted to buy us our drinks. HOW AWESOME IS THAT?
Our suite is gorgeous and I love their long fluffy bathrobes and really nice toiletries. Peppermint shampoo and conditioner - yum. The bed is crazy comfortable. I want to move in here!!
Like I said, definitely stay here if you have any upcoming trips to Vancouver. Maybe even if you live here, it's worth it to check in for a night away from home. Trent is AMAZING! It's so sad that he has worked here for 22 years and now he's going to be out of a job... any hotel would be very lucky to have him.
Stay here for business fairly regularly and it is a favorite in all of my stays.
Location location location... While not directly controlled by ongoing hotel staff this place is perfectly situated. Right on Robson street and short walk to the ocean you get the best of Vancouver's natural and man-made attractions. Also some interesting sights from the adjacent apartment buildings at times... nuff said.
The hotel has a wide variance of rooms from large suites to smaller ones. They are tastefully decorated (I'd call it a South Beach feel) showing a small amount of wear but either way you get a small kitchen of some sort, super comfy beds, and great flat screen TVs with hookups for your laptop even. The workspace desk chairs are too short for the desk, but who wants to sit at a desk in Vancouver. Many rooms have a separate bedroom which is awesome as you can shut the door and be totally removed from everything.
The staff are exceptionally helpful, gym is decent (weight room a bit small), free wine tasting nightly, and great free coffee in the mornings.
Only detractor might be the windows seem 'thin' both in terms of drafts and noise. I've never had a problem with sleeping myself but have heard some complain (picky picky).
I'd rate this a 4.5 star, but since it's either 4 or 5 and due to the great staff and perks like microwaves, entertainment hookups and free wine... 5 stars!
If there is one thing in this world that I love more than donuts, it's cereal, and it's much easier to keep donuts around to snack on when you are staying in a hotel...unless you are staying at Pacific Palisades hotel!
They provide you with a little kitchenette that's not really equipped to make full meals but perfect to keep you in snacks for the duration of your stay. Keep some milk in the little mini-fridge (just watch out for the cans of Molson Ice that will try to attack you after you've packed the fridge too full with your own snacks) stow away a few boxes of cereal in the cupboard that contains bowls, plates and silverware, and heat up your instant oatmeal in the tiny microwave under the sink.
It's a bit odd that the closet is also in the kitchenette area but who am I to complain where my clothes are when I'm allowed to keep cheese in my hotel room?
There is also a little dining room with an adjoining balcony that most likely has an amazing view of Vancouver's natural beauty. The bedroom and the living room both have flat screen TVs with about a zillion input options so you can plug in your iPod or hook up your laptop and watch some movies. The bathroom comes stocked with the usual line up of Aveda products with the glaring exception of lotion. It's a good thing that the location of the hotel allows you to walk to a Whole Foods equivalent, a Safeway, numerous drug stores, and tons of great restaurant options.
Since it's a Kimpton hotel I was bit shocked by the fact that the hotel looks a little threadbare in places but since it's a Kimpton they also provide you with complimentary wine hour that soothes any threadbare nerves you might be experiencing.
The wireless is limited to the lobby area so all the rooms have ethernet cables sticking out of the wall which would be fine if only one person at a time needs to use the Internet but I knew we would need multiple plugs and tossed and turned all night trying to think up a solution until I was awoken at the ugly hour of 9:00 AM by a hotel employee calling to offer to install a hub so we could plug in as many computers as we wanted. Hooray!
Internet, wine, cheese and cereal? What more could someone want?
Spur of the moment trip to Vancouver BC, I was lucky to find such an awesome hotel on short notice!
Pacific Palisades is part of the Kimpton hotel chain, and with that comes all the great Kimpton "stuff"- Aveda products, hotel dog (pet friendly in general), free wine hour, gorgeous decorated hotel, and boutique-style atmosphere.
The staff was very nice and accommodating and helped us make dining choices, as well as get us tickets to Cirque de Solei.
Parking was pretty expensive, but what parking in a city isn't?
Location is key for me, and the Pacific Palisades really can't be beat. Robson Street is THE place to stay in Vancouver and is filled with tons of boutiques, clubs, restaurants, cafes, etc.
Only thing that was a little strange was the hotel amenities, like the front desk and restaurant, are in a separate building from the rooms.
In terms of value, you really can't beat the Pacific Palisades. It's not the cheapest option in Vancouver, but it's reasonable (believe it was under $200 US).
Fabulous location, friendly staff, comfy lobby areas with wifi. The room was huge, great view of skyline and bay, fridge and microwave, granite bathroom counter and floor, excellent shower.
Priceline called this 3.5*. I call it 4+.
Fun and Fabulous is right! The Pacific Palisades Hotel was a great experience overall. Most importantly is the fact that I could bring along my dog and he was given 4 star service! The rooms were clean, the view was great and the staff was friendly.
With an unbeatable location right downtown Robson Street my family and I had shopping, restaurants and the ocean right outside our door. I definetly recommend the Palisades to anyone going to Vancouver!
If you based a review on the hallway and elevator- it would be a one star. But the rooms are really large and clean. Even though we were on the 20th floor with fabulous views, the traffic noise was extremely loud. But then, you are in a large, bustling city.
Beware of some unsavory areas in the city- ask your concierge. He is very good.
I love the pool but wish they would allow diving in the 11 ft water.
Good amenities and coffee. Friendly & helpful staff. We would definitely return.
Whenever I visit Vancouver, I love to stay here. This is the hotel I seek out when I have a little more money, might spend a day inside and want good food at my doorstep.
The hotel is modern and updated. So every room feels clean and bright. Now, it's not posh or over-decorated. I've stayed in a variety of rooms but really would dish out for the nicer suites with a balcony or view. The city views are spectacular and vibrant. While the harbor views are breathtaking and more serene. And http://hotels.com usually has a great deal with this hotel. I've saved a bundle every time I've stayed.
There are some nice perks staying here. The number one for me is the indoor heated pool. When you need a break, it's perfect. They also have a spa attached with the hotel. I keep promising myself an in-room massage but always run out of time! They also have a nice gym, hot tub and steam room. There is a gorgeous fireplace in the lobby and they do a wine and cheese happy hour that is free for guests every night. Another of my favorite perks is room service! You can order a few choice items from the restaurant Zin, which is nice when you want to indulge. And you can get great pizza delivery to the hotel!
As for the location, it's great. You're on Robson St, which is just a mecca for food, shopping and people watching. It's also a straight shot down to the stadiums, but a 25 minute walk. So best to catch a cab. And it's close to nearby Stanley Park.
The only problem I've had here was that the valet was fairly bad. There were a few people that did an okay job. But our car was never ready regardless of when we called in. They were slow, forgetful and even forgot to park the car once! Thankfully we didn't get a ticket. I just hope they can work that out. Otherwise it's a great place to stay for a family vacation or romantic getaway.
Oh and I forgot to mention, they are super pet friendly. Big dogs too! And the hotel is so well built you can't hear them through the walls. But best of all, it's fun to be greeted by all the dogs in the lobby!
In my job, I am Canada's bitch. My security and happiness rides on the whims of a fickle bureaucracy, security levels, exchange rates, and passport issues. The one weapon I have against this arsenal of uncertainty and global issues over which I have NO CONTROL, is my sparkling wit and cute little mug. So I drag my ass up here a lot to get in front of my clients.
"Hi! When you cut your budget by 50% you're fucking ME over directly: Taking food out of my child's mouth, potentially putting me out on the street, causing me to eat Top Ramen and shop at *GASP* ROSS. STOP IT NOW. Look! I have dimples!"
When I make the trip up to practice my special brand of revenue saving manipulation, I always stay at the Pacific Palisades. The location is awesome - right on Robson so I can spend, spend, spend, has a sort of sunny California feel about it with palm trees lining the drive, it's a Kimpton so there is the obligatory wine reception in the lobby every day at 4, it's an all suite hotel (livin' large at $125 per night), and the honor bar is unparalled. Pringles, all kinds of Cadbury chocolate, pop corn, nuts, and then - randomly - a chocolate massage cube, and lube. What?? Lube? Yes, lube.
And a nice little running path map with a 2, 3, 5, and 7 mile course through nearby Stanley Park all laid out for you.
They really know how to treat a business traveler - nothing like a nice long run and a little time with a $28 bottle of Kama Sutra Love Liquid to help you unwind from a long day of mercenary marketing. At least, one would think. I just know about the run, of course.
I will always stay here.
This has been by far the best hotel we've every stayed in.
It was for our honeymoon and we had such great customer serice, the concierge was great, the front desk was delightful, and even the bellman was great.
The rooms are beautiful and large. The design in the room definately beats the other boring chain hotels.
We are now headed to San Francisco where we decided to stay 3 different nights in 3 different Kimpton hotels because we loved this one so much.
The pacific palisades hotel is kind of an anomaly. It's kind of hidden and unassuming along Granville. Sure it's there but its entrance is pretty small compared to the bars and restaurants attached to the hotel.
I didn't necessarily expect such a nice place when I went in but in a place especially considering a lot of the lackluster hotel offerings along Robson, but the pacific palisades is really one of the better ones.
The rooms don't stand out as anything particularly nice, but the staff, the design of all the amenities and the hotel itself is just kind of classier than most. You don't get the Best Western feel when moving around, you definitely get the feel of a fancier world class hotel.
If you want to be on the Robson strip but still have the experience of a fancier Vancouver hotel this would be a good place to head.
I had a great stay here at the ripe age of 20. I specifically came to Canada so that I could drink legally. This was also in 2000 when the US dollar was at a peak against the Canadian dollar. It was like an automatic 30% discount on everything. It's pretty hard not to have a good time under those circumstances.
But I digress, the Palisades is a stunning tower in downtown Vancouver. The rooms are spacious and modern with creative decorations and colors. Our room had a beautiful view of the English Bay. It was during the summer so the sun was setting at around 10pm. It was pretty cool to see that from our room. There's a decent amount of restaurants within walking distance of the hotel which also makes it a good option.
My doppelganger beckoned me to join her in Vancouver with the promise of a swank hotel room. It worked and I flew up to meet her.
A Kimpton in Canada? I marveled at my good fortune. At the Pacific Palisades you'll find all of the comforts you've come to expect from this boutique hotel chain, in a spectacular location.
If you're a fan of the Harbor Court in San Francisco, you'll especially enjoy the Pacific Palisades.
Back in 2000, the BF and I took a trip to Vancouver because a) it's gorgeous and b) we could legally drink there. The Palisades has a modern, simple elegance that made me feel like I was getting my money's worth yet comfortable and at ease. I was very impressed with this place and had a very enjoyable stay. I only remember the name of it 8 years later because - being a Californian - I kept referring to the hotel as the "pal-i-sa-des" as if it were a Spanish word instead of the real "pal-uh-seyds" pronunciation so people kept looking at me all crazy.
Their regular room is a Queen Suite with a living room with a sofa, love seat, coffee table and TV; kitchenette w/ small dining table; and separate bedroom with a TV, queen bed and decent size bathroom w/ shower. Our room looked just like the pictures I've posted and had a wonderful view of Coal Harbour. I checked out the pool house, which looked very nice and inviting - too bad I hadn't thought to bring a swim suit. Also, the service we got from every staff member was friendly, fast and with a smile. I'd definitely stay here again on a return trip to Vancouver.
I attended a training seminar at the Pacific Palisades and it was definitely a just-okay experience. We were a group of about 12 and the seminar room was actually a bed-less hotel room. The carpet and in-room bathroom created a strange feel and the room was far too stuffy for a dozen people. But perhaps it's just my intense aversion to carpet resurfacing.
The hotel staff, however, were helpful and attentive. There was a guest I met in the elevator with her dogs--she seemed to love it in the hotel so we'll put Pacific Palisades on the pet-friendly list.
Pacific Palisades is just past the generic-trendy-shopping portion of Robson. There are some tasty restaurants nearby and the gorgeous woodlands of Stanley Park.
We typically try to stay at Kimpton hotels. We can always count on the service to be excellent and to feel welcomed when we arrive. Plus, I really appreciate what they are trying to accomplish by taking older properties and breathing some life back into them instead of tearing them down to build hideous new chain hotels.
When I first attempted to make a reservation for our stay, the Pacific Palisades was booked and the only room offered was the penthouse suite at $1k/night. That was beyond our travel budget so we decided to stay at another hotel. That experience was not great, so I called PP at 8:00a the following morning to see if they had availability. We were able to book a Queen Suite and I found a great PRIDE room rate discount. We quickly packed up our belongings and headed over. Since it was early in the a.m, we did not expect anything to be available (they did have room) but we were advised by the Front Desk agent to wait until later in the day. She was "trying to work something out". When we came back she had "upgraded" us to a King Suite. I think she took pity on us for the terrible experience we had the night before.
If you like Kimpton hotels, join the Kimpton In-touch program. They left me a cute amenity with a nice hand written card. It's the little things that they do that keep us coming back.
Wow-- the views are wonderful (at least, the angle we were at showed fireworks really well :) ), the rooms are nice and spacious, and while the elevator is slightly creaky, it's a great hotel nonetheless. And for downtown, it's not *that* expensive, especially with the great location on Robson.
The rooms here are so cute and cozy, and because of that, I have spent many a night here. From the outside, the building looks a little mustard-y and as though you might want to stay away from it. But once you're inside, you really get the feeling of being in a boutique hotel with the blown glass in the entryway, and the warm decorations in the rooms. Also, the price has never been too crazy, so that's always a big plus in my book!
My family stayed in the hotel this past weekend. Kimpton did a nice job of turning an older building into a contemporary hotel with all of the amenities you've grown accustomed to. They just finished the new lobby entrance the day we checked out and it is beautiful. The Zin restaurant in the hotel is great - a very nice menu that was pleasurable to both the grown ups and the kids (a bit pricey though for the average family traveling - we found an omelet at $14 to be high, though a very tasty item). The appetizers for $2.00 during happy hour more than made up for other higher prices.
The complimentary wine in the art gallery was very nice. The hotel was well within walking distance of anything you'd like to get to downtown.
The parking situation was kinda lacking though. It took us circling the hotel twice to figure out where the valet was. The valet was friendly but some employees at the valet were missing for long periods of time.
Overall, it was a great time had by all. We felt well taken care of and we'll definitely come back again soon!
This is a fantastic property right in the heart of bustling Robson Street. On any given summer night, Robson throbs with hordes of locals and tourists from around the world. It is a people-watchers delight and quite fun to experience. Combine that with a dizzying array of restaurant choices that extend down to and all along nearby Denman St. and you have one hot scene. I love to experience it every time I come to Vancouver. Pacific Palisades Hotel is perfectly situated for this.
The hotel consists of two towers that was once an apartment building. As a result, the corridors are quite narrow for a hotel and the elevators are small and slow. Do not let this deter you. The Pacific Palisades Hotel is a classy, upscale boutique property. The decor is smart and modern with an art deco twist. I estimate the building is at least 30-40 years old or older, but it it is kept in fine shape and does not show it's age.
Our Queen Deluxe Suite was on the eighteenth floor and had nice views of Coal Harbour. It was clean and well-kept. The furnishings looked and felt of high quality, except for the sink, which was a cheap laminate A microwave was in the cabinet that also held the honour bar, which we used to store what few perishables we had. This allowed us to buy fresh local fruits at Granville Island Market and have breakfast in our room everyday. The staff even brought us a complete set of plates and utensils! Our balcony was unusual in that you must step over a window sill in order to access it -- another concession to the apartment building lineage. These quibbles were minor. My family (including three young boys) absolutely loved this place.
The pool is enclosed, a nod to the mild summer temps, but it is large and kept toasty warm. The boys loved it! One caution, the pool and the wokout room double as a health club that is open to the public, so you will be sharing the facilities. It never seemed crowded to me during our stay.
Every one of the staff was professional and courteous. It was obvious they received good hospitality training and were managed well. It was so convenient to be able to go down to the lobby , then jump right into the action on Robson Street. Stanley Park is only a half-mile away and Canada Place is an easy walk. The new Canada Line light rail system, which now allows you to get from the airport all the way downtown, has a stop within walking distance. You can do this without a car or taxi! We drove so we had to park our car, which can be a problem on the West End. Our package included parking and I had a choice between self-parking or valet. The parking was a bit tight for our full-sized SUV, but then everything is tight for these behemoths. FYI, most other properties on the West End do not include parking and it can be as high as $25CAD/day. So be careful and seek out the package that includes parking, if available.
The Pacific Palisades Hotel is my first choice for an entertaining stay in downtown Vancouver.
I love this location. And the size of the room you get for the money. I've been using this hotel for over 10 years, but yes, it's time for a renovation. Staff is always great & good valets. Rooms have nice decks. Great views at night. Renovation - it's time, yes, it's time.
loved our stay here...right off robson street...great places to eat and shop! the restaurant downstairs is worth trying! missed our doggies soo much, a pet friendly hotel, i was petting all the dogs here! the staff were great...nice sized room, clean, and great amenities!
