Thank you Kimli for your review, you helped me find this dentist. I was in a similar situation, after 7 years of avoiding the dentist like the plague (but cleaning my teeth religiously) my shiny new dental plan prompted me to get a check up whilst I had the financial incentive.
I used Yelp to find a great recommendation, which was also a 5 minute walk from my work. I decided it was time to suck it up and go.
I was nervous. well, that's an understatement. I was ANXIOUS, like knot in the stomach, feeling faint, ready to cancel at the last minute anxious. Thankfully, this place "caters to cowards" (that's me!).
The receptionist was lovely to start off with and my dental hygienist Joanne was so sweet and nonjudgmental. She was very professional and informative, putting me at ease straight away. She gave me great advice, a goodie bag full of floss, a new toothbrush and toothpaste and took amazing care with my teeth. In the spots that I was sensitive and cringed when she was giving me the clean she noticed straight away, adjusted the power of the tool and made sure I was comfortable.
Then they took a million x-rays of my teeth and I was impressed by all of their technology! I guess things change in 7 years but holy-wow it was extremely thorough and all digital. Cool!
My dentist was Dr Komal Dhir and he was lovely. He was calm and reassuring and whilst he had to let me know I need a root canal and one cavity (not too bad considering it has been so long) he was nonjudgmental. I am nervous to go back for the root canal (2 weeks and counting) but because he advised that I don't need to be in any pain at all and that he'll make sure I'm OK throughout the 2 hour procedure I'm confident that I'll go back and actually do it. Something that wouldn't happen if I didn't trust him!
Stop putting off a dental check up people! I understand its scary (and expensive) but the earlier you go the easier (and less expensive) it will be.
Highly recommended. -

I went in to the Pacific Centre Dental group to get work done on a tooth.
The Dentist completed work on the tooth I was having problems on, later that same week the tooth chipped right off, after paying them over $200 for their services with the tooth the same week they would not help me anymore with it... and said they would charge me the same amount. So, I went to another dentist.
Let's just say I am not impressed with this business. -

So, just so we're all on the same page...like most of the previous reviewers, I don't go for regular check-ups and I hate flossing. I wasn't at all looking forward to going to the dentist, but my moral compass told me I should, and when my moral compass speaks, I listen.
My eating companion and I wanted to book our appointments together - we use and abuse our teeth together all the time, so we figured that we would face the consequences of our actions together as well. Pacific Centre Dental Group is part of the Dental Network for all you UBC/SFU students out there, so given the positive reviews and that it was a central location, we decided to give it a shot.
When I contacted Pacific Centre Dental Group, they were so friendly, helpful and accommodating. They have very convenient hours even for the 9-5ers, and we were able to book simultaneous appointments so that we could march to our doom together. Admittedly, the vicious assault that was subsequently launched on my teeth and gums was highly unpleasant, but they can't be blamed for that. All of the staff that I dealt with were very pleasant and professional, from the receptionist to the dentist. Billing was totally painless, as they arranged for everything to be submitted electronically.
It's a small and somewhat cramped office, so not the most comfortable, but they do their best to make sure that you're not suffering too much. The TVs on the ceiling were a nice touch, as was the emphasis on paperless-ness. -

This place gets a solid 4 stars for the following reasons :
- convenient location (right inside the pacific center mall, opposite sephora)
- open 7 days a week (great for working professionals)
- directly bills your insurance company so you don't have to deal with the paperwork.
- easy to get appointments, friendly and helpful front desk staff.
The dental staff are very professional and upfront about what work they're going to be performing and what they recommend. I had my wisdom teeth removed, and some fillings done. They only do enamel fillings - so if your insurance doesn't cover that, you have to pay the difference. They also go over the expenses before you have any work done so you always know beforehand how much you will be paying.
The facility is new-ish and the equipment is all top notch - that really helps to get a pain free experience. I've been to some older dental facilities and you always leave traumatized. The dentists here are very concerned about giving you a pain free experience. So don't be shy to complain.
The only reason they don't get 5 stars is that sometimes I got the feeling that the dental hygienist was scaring me unnecessarily, to keep me coming back and paying for more than normal routine cleanings. She was also a little distracted - chatting with her co-workers etc while performing the cleanings, so that was a little unprofessional.
So 5 starts for the dentist, 3 stars for the hygienist experience = 4 stars for this group ! -

So...round 2...still holding with 4 stars despite the fact that I had the Butcher of Seville for a dental hygienist. It's never good when you hear someone say "oh dear, we have a bleeder" ...a tad unsettling...
I have yet to go for the root canal..hold out for that red letter day..but I did go back for a new filling and to have two older ones replaced. I swear to you I brush twice a day..I don't eat a lot of sweets and I get plenty of calcium..mmm cheese...but the lack of continually flossing has left my teeth very unhappy with me...let this be a lesson to you all...FLOSS!
The filling went alright..only an hour and a bit and I didn't even feel the needle! Other them some slight drooling later and the need of a straw to drink a beer..it was an ok dental experince..and I even learned something new about myself...I'm a "bleeder"..joy...1 Previous Review: Show all »

Review from Kimli W.
I've admittedly been neglectful of my teeth; going almost 8 years between checkups. Naturally, I was very (very very) nervous about seeing the dentist - but some recent tooth pain made me worry for the state of my teeth, so I sucked it up and made the appointment.
From the form on the website to the emails exchanged to arrange an appointment, everything was awesome. When I arrived at the office, each person who worked on my mouth was fantastic - they explained everything they were doing, used technology from The Future to display my teeth (which weren't nearly as bad as I had feared - hooray!) and talk about how we were going to fix the minor issues I have. I actually used Yelp to choose a dentist, so I thought it only fitting that I give them props on the same site. First class all the way! Thanks for putting me at ease! -

I have absolutely nothing to complain about my two visits to the dentist. Went in for a cleaning and a checkup, walked out with an appointment the next day to replace a single filling the next morning. And the next day I once again had a good visit.
If you don't like the dentist you might want to consider coming here. They are all about making you comfortable. TVs are mounted on the ceiling with wireless headsets to keep you distracted. You are asked regularly if you are comfortable. Everyone introduces themselves by their first name. Nice and friendly all-around. And as an added bonus, they are a chartless office, so there is very little paperwork.
And a special perk to UBC students is they are on the AMS/GSS plan and do the digital submission. That means no paperwork to turn in to get your discount! -

Needed a new dentist when I moved to Vancouver and chose this convenient little office, located in the Pac centre blocks from my office. I went from a dentist that was old school in Toronto to this new, modern shop. Some of the cool things are TVs on the ceiling, computer screens to show you what they are working on, photographs stored on PC...service is friendly and flexible. Good spot!
