Came here with my family (6 of us) with a Travelzoo voucher, and we were all pleasantly surprised. Located in the Renaissance Hotel near Coal Harbour P2B is a nice west coast casual eatery . Great atmosphere that wasn't too loud, and great views.
We all had 3 course dinners, and everyone was pleased with their meals--from the Dungeness Crab salad to the mussels (huge appetizer), to the New York Steaks and desserts. The didn't skimp on the portions for sure.
We parked across the street for $6 flat rate (weekend rate) and we were glad we did. Service is very leisurely (may be slow for some), but we had no where to go so we just enjoyed our meals. Would be fantastic in the summer with a nice walk around the seawall before or after! As the place is not huge (yet it seemed so spacious as it extended into the lobby), our server had to serve several tables (he seemed to memorize our orders w/o writing them down. CRAZY!), and he worked really hard. Big kudos to him! -

I'm teetering between 2 and 3 stars for this one. I'm almost wondering if I should write it to begin with. We had a travelzoo deal for a 3 course dinner for 2.
Starters:
I got the onion and apple tart with the salt spring island goat cheese. When it came.. it was more of a puff pastry disc with caramelized onions and apples surrounded by a strange tomato sauce. And the Salt Spring goat cheese? It was more of a creme fraiche or something. I actually asked my server for some goat cheese... because that's what was supposed to be there dag nabbit! My sister's Papaya and crab salad was probably the best thing of the whole meal. It was clean, flavourful, crunchy and light, with lots of crab chunks.
Mains:
Pancetta wrapped Lamb sirloin with wild mushroom risotto. I think there was only a tiny bit of wild mushroom on there--a couple of pieces of chanterelles. Not to say there weren't other mushrooms. Most of the mushrooms were crimini and beech mushrooms which are quite inexpensive. The mains were pretty filling and lasted me two more lunches. My sister's salmon looked like it was a little on the over done/dry side though.
Dessert:
Gianduja chocolate tart with burnt orange caramel and vanilla gelato. This was like different 2 desserts on one plate. There was a total disconnect. The chocolate tart was nice and went well with the caramel sauce, but the gelato was way too cold for the tart and the tart wasn't very melt-in-the mouth. The gelato and oranges went well together, though.
I can see this being a great place for out of towners. -

When we called to make reservations with our Travel Zoo voucher, we were told 'You know they changed the menu, right? You just order what you want, and then we deduct $49 from your bill. Uhm, WRONG.
THE FINE PRINT
Valid for 2 appetizers (up to $16 each), 2 entrees (up to
$32 each) and 2 desserts (up to $9 each), reg. $114.
Reservations are required. Must be used in 1 visit. Tax
and gratuity are not included. This deal cannot be
combined with any other offer. No cash value or cash
back. Dine-in only.
Technically, they should be deducting $114 from the bill as that was the listed 'value' of the voucher. Suffice it to say after reading so many bad reviews, both here and on Urban Spoon, we are trying to get a refund. Con artists! -

I went there for my hubby's company dinner, they bought a couples coupon to try out this restaurant for the first time.
I was absolutely disappointed and I would not recommend this place.
The food quality was fairly bad, I ordered the prawn cocktails as appetizer. It tasted frozen and prawns so chewy. Yikes...
My rib eye steak came in medium well instead of medium rare, also, it's so chewy.
When our food came, the waiter/waitress had to ask the food for who to serve with.
The service was also appallingly slow. -

We don't typically eat in hotel restaurants but we had a coupon with a large discount so we thought we would try. We were pleasantly surprised with the room and our meals.
Our appetizers consisted of papaya salad and jumbo prawn cocktail and were very good with the cocktail sauce having the right degree of spiciness.
I had the grilled scallops and my partner had the lamb. While both dishes were tasty the portions were completely inverse to each other. I received a huge portion of scallops, mussels, potatoes, and vegetables in a very nice broth while she ended up with a extremely small portion of lamb on top of some orzo. Needless to say there was a lot of sharing.
Desert was very standard and nothing special.
The service was ok but intrusive with all sorts of questions not related to dinner. Perhaps because it was a hotel and visitors might appreciate it?
Overall a decent experience but not likely to be repeated. -

Great Happy Hour deals for a hotel bar...hubby had the Konakee beer, which he loved. I tried the local (began with an O) peach cider, which I LOVED. For food, we ordered the charturie, which is basically a meat and cheese tray, but MAN were the choices good and plentiful...salami, prosciutto, brie, blue, goat, watercress, gerkins, and cheesey fried dough balls...yummy!
Very nice! Would definitely go here again, and recommend to all. -

I had a travel voucher and was unsure of what to expect after reading the reviews.
The restaurant itself is nice and feels intimate but all the tables are in an open space which makes it feel less personal.
The server was cold and distant and did not recall who ordered what. He had no personality and seemed uninterested in ensuring we enjoyed our meal. He did, however, take our orders quickly and was efficient in clearing the table and refilling our glasses.
The food was ok. For an appetzier we ordered the mussels had a large serving. It was good, but nothing incredible. Entrees included the West Coast Cioppino and a Haddock fish special. While the portions were fair, the food itself didn't taste amazing. It was good - but anyone can cook good food at home. For dessert we had the creme brule and apple pie. The creme brulee was rich and delicious but was served cold and had obviously been pulled from a fridge while the apple pie had a very thick and unflavourable crust with lemony apples that left a sour taste.
For the cost of the meal and the service received I would not recommend this restaurant. There are many other restaurants that serve incredible food combined with welcoming and warm service.
Overall the meal was just so-so. -

p2b bistro & bar is a modern, upscale-casual bistro located inside the Renaissance Hotel on Hastings. This restaurant has a 2-storey high ceiling with floor to ceiling windows that looks out to the gorgeous mountains and water. It gives a very open and outdoor-like feeling.
The hosts and servers are very professional and courteous, nothing over the top but perfect for this hotel setting. The menus are clean and simple to follow with a lunch special or daily fresh sheet clipped neatly in front. There was also a small bar at one side of the restaurant for drinks. I believe they had buffets on certain days as well.
We came here for 'business' lunch, got our drinks and instead of the traditional bread and butter, p2b served a freshly baked/fried Cheese Herb Bread with delicious Tomato Chutney. It was the best combo ever for a pre-meal bread dish! It even came with a recipe on how to make this at home.
I had the Arctic Char Filet and my friend ordered their Cobb Salad. My dish had roasted beets, mashed potatoe and fresh veggies with a generous piece of fish. The salad was served in a large tall round bowl, filled to the top with crisp lettuce, bright avocados, chicken, egg, blue cheese, tomato, bacon and a drizzle of sauce. Looked very appetizing :)
We were too full for dessert, but I'll come back to try it next time. This casual bistro with an up-scale twist is the place to be for lunch or dinner! Definitely recommended! -

I was taking care of people who were staying at this hotel, so we we ended up coming here a few times. Every time we came (Lunch or Dinner), we got the complimentary fried really soft Cheese Herb Bread with Tomato Chutney. The recipe card is brilliant... it was so exciting that they gave away the recipe! but it looks like so much work that I'll probably come back here to have it :p
Lunch menu - I loved the West Coast Chowder!
Dinner menu - I loved the salad that has pear slices and dried cranberries and blueberries.
Drink menu - One of our servers told us his recommendation for a virgin one: I think he called it "Lu Lu's": Orange, Pineapple, and one other juice I forgot with club soda and Sprite.
They were really accommodating. We asked for a light Italian-type dressing instead of a heavier one, and olive oil for pasta instead of a heavy cream sauce. They were happy to comply.
The two-story high ceiling and windows the whole height was really good for my claustrophobic/crowd-phobic guest! Also the fact that they don't have big TVs during the playoffs. They were participants in Dine Out Vancouver 2010, but we managed to catch the not busy times.
The price is regular casual dining like Cactus Club, not expensive "Hotel Restaurant" like the one at Wedgewood Hotel (this is located in the Renaissance Hotel http://www.yelp.ca/biz... ). A bonus for being a hotel restaurant is that it's open on Sundays, though many of the ones in the Burrard business area aren't.
This kitchen also provides room service for the hotel. -

Great hotel restaurant food, good night out food. sea food dishes and salads are delicious, pizza soggy and breakfast expensive.
