I strolled in here just before closing, hoping to find some nice over the knee boots. Sadly this was lacking, but ended up walking out with a read acrylic circle scarf ($20) and fleece lined fingerless mittens with cover ($25)

I love the styles and the clothes here, but I just cannot justify the $150 price tag for a off the shoulder t-shirt, or $250 for a sweater. But maybe I'm just not their target market.

VERY difficult to not want to buy something here, so be cautious.

The staff here seem very friendly and we had light conversation.

The staff here don't know how to serve a customer.
They sit around chatting with each other and asking them for another size or for fitting help is clearly putting them out of their way.

The prices are insane - you can definitely find the exact same jeans at Holt's or other places in the city for less. And you can find them even cheaper than that online or over the border.

The shoplifting protocol is also unpleasant - having to leave all my bags (even a purse) at the door and take a ticket is low-class and un-trusting of your customers. Other much more expensive shops in Toronto + around the world don't ask you to leave your bags, so why this bullshit asshole policy?

I wrote the following review about six months ago, it was recently deleted by the business owner claiming that it 'lacked first hand experience'. I'm re-posting this as it is all true information that other Yelpers are also posting, but I'm giving them less stars than I did in the first place for pulling a scammy move and having negative reviews deleted. I have been going to this store for 8 years and have consistently found the same outcome:

The staff is mostly Rosedale/Forest Hill kids whose parents made them get a job, work for a few months, then bail. This makes for crappy customer service by girls who haven't got their figures yet and don't know/understand how to deal with varying shapes and sizes of women.

Also, prices are super expensive. On everything, not just jeans. You're better to go to Body Blue or Holts.

I remember Over the Rainbow being such a great store over 12 years ago, but how did they end up being like a second rate discount jean store which seems out of place in Yorkville?

It seems like they always have a sales on, but for some reason I always leave the store empty handed. Other than a couple of decent brands of jeans I didn't find anything else there I really liked. Also most of their inventory feels downscaled and tired. The store was filled with tons of racks of clothes with little order and any attention to presentation or separations of brands. I didn't have the patience to go through a rack of clothes like the sales section of the Bay.

Like many of the Yelpers, I also noticed that they are way overstaffed, but didn't offer a great level of service because of it.
What I found annoying that I had to check in my bags at the front door, even it is a small bag that could barely fit a pair of pants. That seemed both a little ghetto and feeling like they do not trust their customers. They should've invested in security tags on their inventory rather than having so much staff.

One time I was there as I was leaving and retrieving the bag that I checked in, the person who worked the door noticed the Uncle Otis bag and asked me what I bought. I thought that was a bit rude and an invasion of my privacy. I just told them I bought a pair of jeans there -- oh the irony.

This store used to have a very good reputation for people looking for the perfect pair of jeans.
So i went today to get a nice pair of jeans but was very disappointed with the service i got.
I asked for a pair of jeans with back pockets, fitted in the thigh and flare leg. The girl assisting me seemed very annoyed and told me after 4 pairs of jeans i tried, that i basically tried everything on that fits into that category.
One pair was way to tight, so i decided to take them off right away and she kind of snapped at me, that she can't help me find a pair if i decide not to come out of the change room.
I am a patient person and pretty easy to please and i had my husband with me who also agreed that the service was bad. I went in on a Monday at 1 pm, so it wasn't busy or stressful for the employees.
I was ready to spend good money a good fitting pair of jeans, but was actually angry afterwards about my experience.
I hear body blue on Queen street or even Aritzia has better service.

I'm not a fancy person.  But at a time when I was looking for a rare-ish brand of clothing and a very specific item this place knocked it out of the park.  I would never go here to get everyday clothing.  but if there is a specific item you need - they have an excellent selection.

What I was most impressed with was the customer service.  they didn't over-sell items and were sensible and not trying to oversell trendy colours/styles.

I had such a good time with the staff here- we spend a good 30 minutes bantering back and forth.  Nice people here.

    This store is wayyyyyyyy overstaffed.
The store could easily cut their staff in half and still be over staffed.
One time me and co. were the only customers in there and there were 6 stupid kids "working" all in the back corner, and guess what they were doing... TALKING!

1 girl was nice and said hi, the other 6 acted as if we were inconveniencing them.

The store use to be one of the coolest stores in Toronto, now the guy section is nothing but piles of Ed Hardy. Is it still 2005? I think not.

Over the Rainbow is the only place I will go to buy jeans. I swear. I was in Boston this fall where they have no tax - I repeat, NO TAX, on clothing - and I went to the True Religion store and couldn't find the heart to shop. All I could think was, "Where is my own personal shopper who will find all the possible jeans I could ever try on?" No can do, Boston. I gotta get my jeans at Over the Rainbow.

Yes, these jeans are expensive, but they're expensive everywhere. Here, the selection is the best I've ever seen, and they take care of you. I have never been treated poorly here, as other people mention. I am always happy with my purchases. They do a good job with alterations, and fairly quickly, I might add.
I just wish we could transport the Boston no tax on clothing policy to Toronto and life would be complete.Sigh.

Yeah, denims are bit overpriced at Over the Rainbow.  But you get to try on various brands and styles of jeans, to find "the one" that makes you butt looks good (hey, if you are going to throw several hundred dollars of your hard-earned cash on designer denims, they'd better make your butt looks damn good).

Knowledgable staffs.  Some of them are fairly honest and would go out of their way to find the right pair of jeans for you.

Free alterations with original hem, so your denims look like they were made for you.  That, I like!

Yes, it's pretentious. It's Yorkville! I say dust off (and maybe polish up) the old suit of armour and get ready to fend off some serious snobbery - all in the name of jeans (I personally can't think of a better cause)!

Seriously, if you need new denim, head to the Rainbow, which is more like a house of blues considering its stacks upon stacks of jeans, glorious jeans, in every shade imaginable, from powder to periwinkle. Pllus, enough designer labels to satisfy pretty much anyone who likes to rock their fave designer on their ass (read: me).

I'll even drop some names to satiate all you logo hounds until you can go to Over the Rainbow yourself: Nudie Jeans Co., Naked & Famous, James Perse, J Brand, Cheap Monday and Blank.

The staff knows its stuff - perfect fitters. And alterations, if needed, are fast and free.

    Two words: Over.Priced.

Over The Rainbow caters to Rosedale and Forest Hill kids with Daddy's credit card to burn.

The people who work there are all of the same ilk and wouldn't know what service was if their lives depended on it.

The layout is decent, but the sales are terrible. You really get the feeling that they pump up the prices just to make it look like they chop it down.

The big thing here is the denim. They have the lock on what's hot in the denim world, at a price. Usually I just go find what I like and then go to Holt's and get it for cheaper.

There's a hot tip for ya.

Like everyone has said everything is overpriced. But they do have a huge selection of jeans. But hey they'll do the alterations for you if you need them shorted with the original hem at no extra cost - instead of having to take your jeans to get them shortened elsewhere.

The people that work here are usually full of themselves and have an attitude but if you give them the attitude right back they tend to lose the attitude.

But like a few other pople have said you can find the same jeans at Holt's for less.

I have nothing new and insightful to add, but as i was there the other day i was inspired to write a review.

Advice as follows (and stated by most reviewers)
Go, check out the jeans, try them one - they have tons and are quite good about getting the 'newest' jeans in, note the price, then wander down to bloor and over to Holts and compare the price, 99% of the time they will be cheaper at Holts.

The rest of the stuff is indifferent, as someone said lots of CC California - which i don't understand the price of, it's a cotton shirt, sure it fits well but it'll end up with a hole in it in a month - and then what. Every once in a while they will have something semi unique but you're better of going to a boutique store, because if it's from here it wont be unique for long.

Ehhhhhhh. I know Over the Rainbow has been around forever, and it's in Yorkville and it's trendy and whatever. But there are so many jean stores in this city, why would I go to the one that is going to sneak in that extra $5 on every pair?

Anna is right, this place just loves to turn up the pricing so they can say that everything is 50% off when it's on sale. Even the lower end of premium denim (like Canada's Fidelity jeans) end up costing wayyy more than they would at any other store in the city. Not to mention there are so many rich girls who follow this store religiously, so odds are whatever you buy there will be on every girl at Holt's on Bloor. LAME.

Besides the jeans, their clothes are kind of rich-girl tacky. LOTS of Juicy Couture and C&C California (Who on earth spends that much money on a cotton tank??).

Just come here to look around, get ideas, and go elsewhere. They do have decent sales sometimes, but generally everything in the size 26-28 range is gone the second it's marked down.

i suppose they include the hidden cost of alterations. like everyone else has said, try them on here then go to holts and find your pair much cheaper.

what left a bad taste in my mouth when i had some other bags from shopping, i come in to OTR and the staff told me i had to leave my merchandise at the front of the stoor. i wasn't even going into a fitting room. and i personally would rather not leave my bags at the front of the stoor (not even at their cash) for someone to walk out with my stuff.

So many jeans. So many expensive but beautiful jeans.

Over the rainbow has some really amazing pieces. They have a huge selection of denim, including Seven for All Mankind, Citizens of Humanity, Rock and Republic, Mavi, Dish, Silver, etc. Any jean you could want, you'll find here.

However, you'll also find totally insane and crazy prices that only a mad person would ever pay. I've only done it once but boy, oh boy, do I love those jeans.

They provide free tailoring too, so you can get your jeans at the perfect length for those 5 1/2 inch heels. I also had to return a pair I purchased once because the jeans had stretched and they let me exchange them without a problem.

They also have tons of tops and skirts and accessories, so if you aren't completely broke after you buy your new skinny R&Rs, you can pick up a new shirt and finish off the outfit.

Even if you can't afford to buy anything here, Over the Rainbow is a great place to do some browsing, and maybe just try on one pair of pants!
