    Oh wow wow wow!

My mom and I are gluten free, visiting from San Francisco. We made a pilgrimage to Origin from our downtown hotel and it was so worth the walk!

For lunch, the Strata is fantastic. The Focaccia sandwich is a little small (ie, you get more food with the Strata), but also delicious.

Cupcakes are amazing. Chocolate with candied orange buttercream frosting? To die for! We got pumpkin spice muffins to eat for breakfast tomorrow and I can't wait.

I'm bad at counting Canadian money, but I think the cashier might have given us too much change (sorry!). I promise it wasn't a bribe to write a good Yelp review!

I have tried a number of their breads and every time am blown away.

One of the hardest things for a celiac or person with a wheat allergie to do is accept that they can't have sandwiches. Well look no further.

I got the oat bread and the focaccia and I just absolutely adore it. The oat bread stands up to the sandwich test AND the french toast test. It's really moist and lasts for quite a while.

I found the focaccia a little dry, but I think that's what it's supposed to be like. I was just happy to be enjoying it. The bread is a bit pricey, but I think that's probably just how it is, I'm happy to pay it.

The people are super friendly and they keep decent hours for popping in after work if you need to.  A gluten free must if you're visiting Victoria or if you live here.

Another great thing about Victoria is that they have a dedicated gluten free bakery. Its tucked away in a residential part of the city. They have everything here from eclairs to cream puffs to quiche. It was difficult deciding what to try, especially since as daytrippers we couldn't take much in our backpacks.

I decided on a lemon meringue cupcake, which I just couldn't resist, an apple almond muffin, and their sourdough boule loaf. The cupcake was quite original, with everything you would find on a lemon meringue pie, with the cupcake as the crust. It was delicious, although I needed the moist topping as the cake itself was a bit on the dry side. The muffin was really enjoyable, and reminded me of a bran muffin from back in the day. The sourdough tasted exactly how a sourdough loaf should taste. I wish I could have fit more loaves into my pack. My friend had an almond cake, which was delicious as well. We agreed that if we lived on the island, we would hang out here every week.

    I can't believe it's not gluten!

This is an amazing bakery for so many reasons. Wholesome ingredients. Ridiculously delicious goods. They recycle or compost everything - it's a garbage-free bakery. And everything they make is gluten-free. The entire place!

Even though they are not using any wheat, the baked goods here easily rival any "regular" bakery in town. Most of what they make is better than what you can get elsewhere.

    Must have items:
    - Granola bars
    - Brownies
    - Muffins
    - Foccacia Bread

get the vega bread. now. just do it. it's delicious. As a nut/corn/wheat allergic person this rocks my universe.
(preslice it and chuck it in the freezer, since as a natural product it goes off quite quickly)
their granola is scrumptious and sweet.
pricey, but delicious gluten-free whole foods.
