Review from Andre P.
Coquitlam, BC
I just had a $12 veggie burger and it was raw ... pretty good... surprisingly! I usually like a normal burger from White Spot or Red Robin but this veggie burger actually made me feel good after I ate it. It was weird it was made of beets and had tons of sprouts on it but the bread that they use was raw and it was full of sun-dried tomato flavor and kind of felt like pita. It came with kale chips and they were super spicy. Overall it was a little bit pricey but I can see why .... flavorful.
The atmosphere was very posh and you can watch the kitchen work which was pretty cool. Our server was super nice to us and I liked how she stood right next to me and asked me how my meal was looking right into my eyes... Dreamy! -

Haven't tried anything there yet, but when I dropped in asking for a takeout menu and inquiring which items were vegan, worker said 'everything'! which is nice to know...not that i ever will plan to, nothing against the food or their customers but variety is the spice of life.
I've heard their cooking classes are pretty good and healthy of course. Very busy on a wednesday night, no tables available.
No doubt this has potential. -

I've been here a few times for dine in and take out. Last night I was there strictly for dessert! We shared a piece of chocolate pie called 'the ridiculous'. The most ridiculous thing about it was the price. haha 7$ for a tiny sliver of pie. It was pretty good - it almost was more coconutty than chocolate tasting though. Didn't care for the crust. I think if it was taller with more of the chocolate fudgyness than it would balance the crust. And maybe some kinda whippy stuff on top to make it look pretty?
The service is usually pretty friendly and all the food I've tried was decent. I always find it's kinda pricey but it's nice to have a safe eating environment where it's completely gluten free and dairy free. Definately not for everyone - anyone I've brought who isn't on a special diet thought it was pointless to pay that much for what you got. It's good for anyone with a restricted diet that needs some guilt-free-eating-out-love!Listed in: Gluten Free Joints

OK yelp lead me to this place and I was glad it did. It was a rainy day and the food they served me was vary good. In all the raw concept is OK with me and they do a nice job of it. The cold soup and the burger were very good. Yes this is a place I see myself getting back to when I am in town again.

Review from Purdy J.
After tasting their delicious macaroons, I knew I had to come back for more. I was here for breakfast - tried 3 different smoothies ($7 ea), 2 of their 3 Breakfast Options and of course had to have a macaroon as well.
Note: although, they only have 3 breakfast options, you can order anything on their menu all day!
Granola with berries, $9: varying sizes of granola chunks that was neither too dry/crunchy or too soggy, and a sprinkle of blueberries (I could of eaten much more blueberries!). Not very sweet at all, very earthy and nutty in taste. Overall, it was okay. The house made almond milk was really nice.
Crepes, $13: very tasty, the filling was delicious. The sauce looked like ketchup but tasted yummy.
Powerhouse Smoothie: very nutty and earthy tasting. Not bad for a drink Jam packed with protein.
Chocolove smoothie: smooth and mildly chocolatey tasting. Not overly sweet from the sweetness of bananas. I think I like the "almost chocolate" from the Juice Truck better mainly because it's filled with cocoa bits that aren't completely blended in. Juice Truck review here: http://www.yelp.ca/biz...
Strawberry Chai Smoothie: my favorite smoothie out of the three that I tried. It was very Fresh, light, not overly sweet with a perfect hint of tartness! Great morning smoothie!
I like a big, hearty breakfast so I left feeling a little hungry but I am glad to have experienced my first raw, healthy breakfast. They have a large menu and a ton of other smoothie/juice options... I'm Looking forward to trying more!
Don't come here looking for meat. I would recommend checking out their menu beforehand.Listed in: Baby diapering and EC friendly…, Health Drinks

Review from Nora C.
Vancouver, BC
We visited Organic Lives today on recommendation from a friend, who said the desserts were fabulous.
We shared the chocolate & coconut cream pie, which incredibly has no gluten, added sugar or dairy but tastes like a luxury dessert you might find in a Parisian pâtisserie. It was deliciously smooth and flavourful. We were not disappointed. In fact, we were very impressed! We also got some cherry eclipse cookies to go, and they too were lovely. Very refined and tasty, not at all what you'd expect as a vegan "sweet".
Sure, the prices are not cheap ($7 for desserts) but they are not unreasonable either, especially given the quality of the ingredients (and absence of sugar, dairy, gluten, etc.).
The décor is minimalist, but exceptionally clean, and the staff are friendly and helpful. -

They do a great job advertising that they are a raw food restaurant, yet some of their items are not raw. I have nothing against non raw food. But some people that are 100% raw foodists are mislead by what's being served here.
And just because they have great presentation for the food, does NOT mean that any of it tastes remotely good.
Raw vegan food and even cooked vegan food can taste amazing if you know how to balance flavours and season properly. Which is not done here.
The focus is obviously organic food, sustainable, looks good so it makes you feel good about what you're eating, and it bypasses the "tasting good" part.
Which is kind of the point of going to any restaurant in general.
The food is supposed to taste good. If you don't care that it's raw and supposedly better than cooked food, then what is the point of serving rawish food then?
See my previous review for more details on the dishes they serve here.
I wouldn't eat this food again if someone paid me. I really hope they understand how important it is to TASTE TEST recipes to ensure consistency.
And that floppy fruit roll ups do NOT work as a wrap. I make 100% raw dehydrated wraps that are flexible but hold up well and are not sticky and do not fall apart. They have the worst wrappings I've ever had for raw food.1 Previous Review: Show all »

However, I took my two children, the other morning for breakfast - who are 'anythingariens' and their tastebudes and visual-buds weren't very good with the transition from traditional spelt style pancakes to thin re-hydrated coconut pancakes, or the raisin bread, which looked more like doggy cookies. I loved it all - for the record.
Surprisingly, the eldest wolfed down the muesli I had ordered for myself.
Next time: no kids :) But I'm glad to have given their palette a new experience.1 Previous Review: Show all »

The chocolate macaroons are my favourite treats on the planet (no exaggeration) and I am absolutely head over heels for their coconut water (frozen, naturally sweet and tastes super fresh compared to tetra packs!). It's not cheap but as the old saying goes, you get what you pay for. And in my opinion, the quality is definitely worth the price. I love how creative and friendly they are here. The owner and master chef often personally checks on the customers. A nice touch. Some of the dishes may need a refined raw palette, but they do a good job and offering something for everyone. I wish more restaurants in this city would go organic!

Review from Justin L.
After a month of non-stop dining out, I thought it wise to at least dine at some healthy vegetarian place. I guess I went a little further with Organic Lives, since everything they serve is also RAW. Not being a usual raw-foodist, it didn't dawn on me how many adjustments need to be made to just about anything you eat, such that anything you eat -- however you conceptualize it -- must be taken in quotation marks.
Take the "BURGER," for example. It's really a mountain of alfalfa sprouts atop some mashed beets. There's only one piece of yam bread -- not even two to make a sandwich of sorts.
Or, how about the "PIZZA" with "cheese" made from... actually, I don't know... sprinkled with diced red bell peppers and other veggies?
"SUSHI" looks and feels closest to the real thing, although it would've been nice to perhaps use some soaked wild rice (which can then be eaten raw) to retain some texture of original idea.
"RAVIOLI" was for me the biggest stretch: a dollop of nut paste spread between two thin slices of beet.
The one substitute that I actually preferred over the original (and actually bought a package to take home) was Organic Lives' version of "CROUTONS" for their "Caesar Salad": ground up nuts pressed together into a loose lump. Super tasty!
Everything looks beautiful, mind you -- vibrant colors, beautiful presentation, tufts of alfalfa billowing everywhere... And every dish contains some kind of dressing, pesto, or raw sauce, that ties all the veggies together.
Prices are high, probably because this place is so specialized. While everything is gorgeous, you'd probably get more vegetables from an entrée-sized salad at any omnivorous restaurant...
Service was slightly scattered. One of our AVOCADO CARROT SOUPS was forgotten until we asked about it, after the main entrées arrived. The food also took a long, long time to come out. I guess it's raw + vegan + slow food. Triply trendy.
But what I would still like to see is a restaurant like this that redefines or creates dishes at the conceptual level. Sure, Organic Lives does an admirable job with all of their "FOOD" but why still call it a burger or sushi? Why not invent a whole new category of food that doesn't rely on a carnivorous original? Until then, an omnivore like myself can't help but be distracted by the feeling that I'm dealing with phonies, fakes, and impostors.Comment from Preet M. of OrganicLives 11/3/2011

Really good. I'm starting to like this raw food thing. Had the sicilian wrap. Apparently Sicily isn't as spicy as I always thought. But the wrap was good for sure, primarily to the tomato "fruit rollup" they used as the wrap. I know it sounds crap, but honestly it was really good.
They carrot avocado soup through me for a bit of a loop as it was cold...it's supposed to be cold (who knew).
And the desserts were surprisingly good, even though they used no sugar, cream or flour (i know, sounds terrible right?). but the cherry tart, macarons, chocolate ganache and coconut pie was all good (we overdid it a bit). honestly, tops all around, and the owner was incredibly nice. -

The only reason they got the extra star was because the people were so nice.
This was extremely disappointing, especially after such good reviews.
It took over 30min to get my food take-out and was VERY expensive., $24 for an entree and a smoothie. The food looked nice, but was less than filling compared to other veggie restaurants I enjoy and especially not for the price. I do not recommend the Vanilla Chai smoothie because as much as i LOVE chai, there was so much chai in it, it left a numb feeling in the throat.
I would try them again, but by the sounds of it, only for desert. -

Well, I'm all over organic/sustainable/local food, so I had to try this one out. It was an experience in food, for sure. I've never had raw food only, other than munching on veggie sticks.
The place was, as other reviewers commented, sparse. It's like a cafeteria in a warehouse in there.
The food was definitely on the expensive side, and interesting. It didn't taste bad, especially given what it's made of, but it didn't make my tastebuds scream with glee either.
In short - I went to try, and I wouldn't go back again, but it was definitely.. 'interesting'. -

If you're used to "regular" food, with the exception of deserts, raw food isn't going to taste just as delicious. And if you've shopped for organic food to make your own raw food concoctions, you'll realize the prices at Organic Lives are within reason. I think it's the best raw food restaurant in Vancouver. I'll keep going back again and again. The owner is clearly very passionate about what he does and that's always nice to see. I think it's a 4-5 star establishment depending on what you order.

I was there the other day and had the coconut water bottled, it was too strong of a flavor and I already know that from the past, but I think I'll drink coconut water straight from a coconut instead from now on. A much more pleasurable experience.
The "pizza" (3 slices) on a dehydrated crust was really a waste of $15.00. It made me realize that I should have just bought my own dehydrator instead.
However, the Strawberry Cheesecake was devine in that vegan way which was easier on the body to indulge in with no heavy after-weight ness.
The juices are always to die for, and get excited for the feeling of 'flying high' right after the vitamins go straight to your blood stream. -

Of course we all know organic isn't usually fast or cheap, but it usually makes up for it in taste and nutrition. My initial experience was not good. There was no one to greet me despite a flurry of activity. Then, finally, I was asked to wait a minute and waited about 5. I placed an order - Aloo Tikka - which promised to make my tastebuds come alive, then paid $16.80 and told it would be about 20mins.
When I spun back to the resto I was greeted with a smile and given a small box to take with. I opened it and saw three unlively and unappetizing-looking patties, 3 sauces and a small salad (http://www.yelp.ca/biz...).
I wanted something hearty (maybe my own mistake) but the worst part is paying that price knowing I'll be hungry before dinner.Listed in: Places That Annoy Me

I really, really, really wanted to love this place.
The first thing that put me off was the location. It was literally an old warehouse turned into a cafeteria. A big brick wall here. A cold cement floor here. No decor at all. Just all over cold and uninviting. I didn't even like being in the space for more than a few minutes.
I was so excited for the food though as that was what I came for. I had a hard time picking what I wanted but I ended up getting the sea veggie sushi, spring roll, and two different slices of pie/cake. All to go. Waited and walked around awkwardly for my food. Got it. Left to try the goodies with my boyfriend.
Verdict on the food: disappointed! I only enjoyed the sushi rolls. The rest were really disappointing. The spring roll dish had a really strange flavour that I wasn't expecting and wasn't a fan of. It looked amazing though. The desserts were dry and overwhelmed with that soggy nut crust taste. For the money, I feel like I could have made a far better raw meal by myself at home. I do think I just had a bit of bad luck and chose the less than stellar items on the menu. But then again, I don't feel like I should have to have that problem. Everything on the menu should be spectacular and I shouldn't have to "know" what to order and what to avoid to get a great meal.
I'm glad I wasn't a raw food skeptic when I tried this place out because I would have quickly deemed it boring, expensive (although it pretty much is), and just not tasty. The atmosphere of Organic Lives is also certainly not something I want to associate this kind of lifestyle with either. However, I do want to give it another shot here because I KNOW the food can taste so much better and I will find some dishes that I love.Listed in: Veg-Friendly

When I friend suggested we go for a raw vegan meal, I was pretty quick to dismiss the idea. Thankfully she convinced me to try something out of my comfort zone, because Organic Lives is pretty awesome.
We shared a plate of sushi, and both had the lasagna. I was expecting it to be room temperature, but it was quite cold. That's the only thing I could change, I understand that it can't be heated/cooked but it doesn't have to be freezing! For dessert I had pumpkin pie, which would taste better to people who love coconut. I personally don't like it, so it kind of spoiled my fun.
There is limited seating and most of the space is occupied by the large full view kitchen. I loved that I could see the employees working and that everything was immaculately clean and fresh. -
Review from Sara M.
I love this place. Even though the ambiance is a little confusing. Is it a restaurant? Is it a cooking school? Is it a grocery store?
The service was great, both at the table and at the counter purchasing groceries. I had the greatest nerd conversation about the raw lifestyle!
We tried the Tapas platter and the Vanilla Chai Smoothie to start. The veggie crackers are awesome! aaand also available in the grocery area for take home. The cheezes were super tasty and went perfectly well with the tapenade. The smoothie was full of chai deliciousness and was a huge serving!
I had the Sicilan Wrap with Cesar Salad. Holy crap. The wrap made of heirloom tomatoes was ahmazing. It demanded I try and recreate it at home, yum. My dining partner had the Masala Burger - which he enjoyed but wasn't mad about. I had a taste - it was good but seemed to require more spice maybe? The kale chips helped to even that out.
Next stop, the OMG Coconut Pie. Sweet Jesus people! This pie deserves to be endlessly raved about. I think it makes all the other desserts in the case jealous.... which is saying something as they are ALL delicious. Just order it.
** A few days after my dine in experience I purchased some to go desserts for my non vegan fathers bday. His mind was blown. Just saying. ** -

Yes i too finally made it here. Walking into this place is really confusing because it does not at all feel like a place you want to hang out it. But the sentiment is agreed, this is now my favourite vegan place in Vancouver. They do things right. I could list off all the healthy things they do but really just go check it out for yourself.
We ordered a cesar salad to share which was awesome and yummy. I followed it with a veggie burger, it was so delicous and healthy. Their Kale chips were super yummy too.I felt like it was the healthiest meal i have ever had in vancouver. I had a greens drink as well which tasted very green, and it was huge so i recommend sharing it. Next time i am trying the Chai one for sure.. among everything else on the menu. -

My mind = Blown
It's not often that my life is changed by food, but tonight that's happened. A group of us gals came here and sampled random nibbles while catching up. Insanely delicious, flavourful, healthy, zesty, etc., etc.,
We started with a large bottle of coconut water (omg, so refreshing) and the sushi sampler plate. Of the three kinds of sushi, the sprouted walnut with mango was by far the favourite and we were craving more! We also had the bruschetta, the pizza, and *drumroll* three mindblowing desserts.
If you come here you've GOT to try the "Oh My God Coconut Cream Pie" (that's the real name) and the "This is ridiculous Chocolate Ganache" (also the real name). I kid you not, these were insane. The ganache was so decadent and flavourful, I couldn't believe that it was made without flour, sugar, dairy and-- get this-- contained as many antioxidants as 23 cups of blueberries!! Seriously the healthiest dessert ever, and oh-so-good.
I think I'm wired for this raw vegan food, it just makes my tummy feel sooo happy and alive.
I've got to come back to try absolutely EVERYTHING on the menu. -

I am still curious about the atmosphere of this place, and I have known it from the beginning - as a friend was one of the founders of the place. Not sure whether to call it a "restaurant" or what... perhaps an "eatery" of sorts.
As a vegan/vegetarian, who has a strong emphasis on raw and live foods, this place is awesome, and also nearby. The food and the service match each other, and everything is superb.
I just think it is a bit too pricey... -
Review from Larry L.
Finally made it here. Being a fan of RAW food and not always able to maintain my diet of good healthy eats, espeically when dining out alot.
We had to come here to get our fix and to put us back on the right path of Organic, gluten free, sugar free, non GMO, whole grain substance. You know. "di mangiare sano buon cibo!"
We had the Vegan Raw Lasagna which was made from Zucchini and pesto and nuts and it was -- it was, tasty. It came with a very good Ceaser Salad, all raw, all vegan, all healthy and good for your nutrition starved body.
We had the Pizza, which if you think in terms of regular pizza, this aint it. If you're thinking terms of the Pizza at Gorilla Foods, this is more like pizza than what Gorilla Foods has to offer. (but then again, theirs is pretty good). Organic Lives Pizza was nice. Three pieces and a Ceaser Salad. The two of those dishes made for good sharing and technically we were full. What topped it or what more acurately put it over the top was the soup (not in a good way). We decided to try out the Thai curry soup. A cold soup that would have been good if it had real Thai ingredients in it. It has alot more cumin that I would have liked and this left a very strong taste in my mouth. We finished it, but it had this everlasting sensation in your tummy and tongue.
I wished they were able to use real Lemongrass, Thai basil and green chili's to make Thai Green Curry. I would have guessed they couldn't do this cause of the Organic issue with those ingredients. Some of the stuff you can't get, organic. Too bad. It had so much potential.
So aside from the Thai soup concerns, I do hope to come again and try more dishes. It was indeed very good for Raw food. I did feel that most of the people who wrote about their experience here and couldn't appreciate it, didn't really understand Raw food. It takes a strong commitment and desire to learn to love food in it's basic form. To learn about taking care of our bodies with the food we eat. Think about it. You could reduce alot of risks from Diabetes and other ailments by taking on a Raw food challenge. Try it for a month and see the results.
You'll feel and be amazed. The challenge after that, is to stick with the diet which isn't as easy to do. I've found alot of other people just don't understand it or it's too agressive on the digestive system or don't really feel the need,,,,,,yet.
So now I've got to find my way back on the Raw food plan again. Even if it's just at home and the odd occasional trip to one of these types of restaurants. The rest of the time I'll keep trying to fit in the salads and veggies with the Szechuan and the "bad carbed" pasta's and ramen. :(Listed in: Healthier Food options, Diabetic Friendly

Review from Malloreigh M.

This is a long review so if you don't want to read it, here's the nutshell: It's really good, the food is amazing, their trading practices are A+, I want to shop there for groceries all the time, but the atmosphere is a little too sterile for my tastes. Get the Oh My God Coconut Cream Pie.
I had been to Organic Lives once before. I remember when it opened - this huge building right on my bike ride home - and I thought that there was no way it could be a vegan place. Finally, we went in, and I remember being turned off immediately by the sterile environment. It's this yawning painted-white chasm of a warehouse with a makeshift cafe set up in the front. It seems incredibly empty; there's no music playing and all of the employees are in all white and wearing hairnets. I mean, I'm the type of girl who likes a place proportionately to how bright and "funky" the decor is (and inversely proportionate to the price of the beer), so this place just seemed... unwelcoming. (They don't serve beer, by the way, in case you were wondering.)
Still, we persevered, and checked out some of the items they have for sale on their front shelves. It turns out that Organic Lives imports incredible, rare, fantastic-looking organic foods from farmers all over the world. From nut butter made from jungle nuts harvested by an indigenous tribe in the Amazon to Himalayan rock salt to kelp noodles - everything I saw intrigued and excited me.
So the soft-spoken server (in white and a hairnet) brought us glasses of water to start. I assumed I was really, really thirsty, because that water tasted amazing - but no, it turns out it is really special water. I can't remember what's so great about it, but Kaylie drank four full glasses while we were there. We also tried the organic raw young coconut water (chilled, natch), and that was - oh my goodness - incredible. And $5 for a little bottle.
We tried the bruschetta and peruvian olive platter. We also had the Mexican spirals. So the bruschetta was more or less what I expected, except instead of being served on a tough flax cracker, like I would have thought, it was on this totally bread-like (but un-bread!) almond thing. The olives were incredible. There was no bitterness to them at all. They were absolutely perfect.
The Mexican spirals - well, those were not what I expected. It was avocado, tomato, and lettuce wrapped in a faux cheese made from pine nuts and this fruit roll up thing made of dehydrated tomato. I found the wrap stuck to my teeth and they didn't stay together too well, but apparently they're one of the more popular dishes, so that's cool. The hot sauce they were served with, though... holy. Incredible. Raw, obviously, and fresh, and very pleasant-tasting. Of course, everything tasted super fresh. The flavours of the vegetables really came out. Impressive.
After we ate all that we had... more food. Pizza. Raw pizza. So I'd had raw pizza at Gorilla Food before, and I remember liking it, but I also liked this one. I'm not in a position to decide which one is better. This was just really good. Probably my favourite thing we ate. It was also served with a caesar salad. Simple, right? But incredible. Neat croutons, too. Probably made out of nuts of some kind. The pizza had more olives on it. Yes! This was satisfying, and $12, which is fair for the amount and quality of food, though admittedly a bit more than I like to pay for a meal.
We also tried the masala cakes, which I was frankly underwhelmed by. I expected something with more spice, I think, and the mint chutney was... okay, but not stunning. I remember being struck by a subtle bitter taste that only happens with incredibly healthy raw food. They were served warm, though, which was a nice change.
Okay, so, we ate all that, AND THEN WE ATE PIE. AND IT WAS THE BEST PIE EVER. I swear I have never eaten a dessert that I enjoyed as much as that one. It's called "The Oh My God" because that's what everyone says when they try a bite, and it's $7, and it's tiny, but DELICIOUS.
If you do nothing else, go in there and eat dessert. Or get take-out, because it is not an atmosphere conducive to rowdy and relaxed conversation, but god damn is the food good.Listed in: Vegan Vancouver

My previous experiences with raw food restaurants has been quite bad. Many raw dishes rely heavily on coconut products and if the coconut is at all rancid the result can ruin not only the meal but the whole day, leaving a lingering residue of rancidity that taints anything else you eat.
Happily, Organic Lives avoids this pitfall; their ingredients are unfailingly fresh and of the highest quality. I am not a raw foodie in my daily life, but, after two wonderful meals, I can't wait to visit this restaurant again. Instead of being hobbled by the restriction of using only raw ingredients, the chefs are up to the creative challenge; the dishes make innovative use of a very wide range of foods.
Get happy; eat here. -

Raw, vegan, organic and amazing!! Substantial delicious meals packed with nutrition! Amazing shakes, juices, E3 lives shots, wheat grass and some supreme quality groceries. Buy nuts, superfoods, superherbs, berries, oil and coconut water here. Try the coconut pie and Superexpialidelicious shake.
The staff takes their time. The place has a sterile, simple and bright atmosphere. I like getting a bunch of stuff to go. It might come across as pricey tho think about the nature of the ingredients and time it takes to produce quality organic food that is so good for you. -

* I clearly just don't get it *
Ok, time for a multiple choice quiz:
Is Organic Lives:
A) A raw "supermarket"
B) A cafe
C) An online organic retailer
D) A kitchen equipment vendor
E) Trying to do all of the above
That is right. The answer is E. And I just don't get it.
Walking into the space it feels like a large warehouse that also has a few fridges, a cafe counter, and a bunch of people working at desks. It wasn't even clear where to go, as I was the only person there and nobody was behind the makeshift counter.
I was overpowered by a very unpleasant aroma. I'm still not sure what it was. But it didn't smell good.
I took a look at the various products on offer - a range of organic dried products like fruits and berries, some nuts and seeds, cacao and coconut products and derivative. Things were not attractively presented, and the prices were very high compared to other places that offer similar products in a more appealing presentation.
Some sample pricing:
- $15 for 150g chocolate bar
- $49 for an apple pie
- $49 for a ginger pear pie
- $9 for 8 ounces of trail mix
- $27.95 for 4 ounces ($111.80 a pound!) of freeze dried kale sprout powder
Clearly I just don't get it. I'm not even sure what I would use a pound of freeze dried kale sprout powder for, and I can think of a lot of other things to eat that I could buy with close to $112.
The pre-made meals that were in the "cafe" display case were not appealing looking at all either. They didn't look particularly fresh, and I couldn't get over the aroma in the whole place. Couldn't think of actually eating there.
The kitchen equipment included a $599 blender. I don't get it.
I'm clearly out of touch with reality, but I just don't get this place at all. I wish them well with whatever the target market is. But I think it is not for me.Listed in: Fool me once, shame on you.…, Vancouver Organic Food

Thanks for responding to my comment. Most people don't even know when a nut is rancid or fresh because they lack experience with fresh foods.
The cashiers told me they couldn't process a refund without the owner's authorization.1 Previous Review: Show all »

This is a rawvolution!
A friend of mine told me that she was reccommend Organic Lives. I went on the website, unaware that this diamond in the rough is 100% vegan and raw. If you, too, have been on the site, the mentioning of cheeses, and "creamy" sauces, is actually all made with organic seeds and nuts.
Obviously, knowing this, I was greatly excited. I ordered the lasagna, my friend ordered the zughetti, and we got a bowl of the carrot-avacado soup to start and share.
Everything came at once, and was prepared with beautiful touches. The soup, I might add, was not so much an appetizer, but a whole meal in itself - for a mere $5.00!
My lasagna was excellent. Layers of zuchinni, tomato, a 'cheese' spread, and flavorful basil. It came with a generous side of ceaser salad for $12.
My friends zughetti was also great, having tried a bite. Very impressive vegan version of alfredo!
And, last, but not least, was the divine desserts. Three words: Chocolate Cashew Cheesecake. I can't even express how amazing this was.... you just have to try it.
Definite reccomendation for those who are vegetarian, vegan, a raw foodie, or for those who just want a great nutritious lunch! -

Organic Lives has a beautiful atmosphere with natural lighting.
The kitchen is bordered with windows so you are able to peek in and watch the chefs at work.
The sit-down menu is separate from the deli menu displayed on the glass counter; it includes an array of entrees and drink options. Everything is raw and everything is vegan. =]
The extensive raw menu includes a variety of meals to experience, I chose the sushi and was not disappointed.
It was so flavorful and artistically put together!
The drinks were a little on the spendy side, ($7 each) but it comes in a tall glass, so you definitely get what you pay for.
I ordered the apple juice and was pleasantly surprised to actually be drinking freshly squeezed apples (vs corn syrup and sugar).
Our food arrived in a timely manor and our server was helpful in recommending an entree.
Full stars for Organic Lives! -

I've never had so much fun and pleasure eating TREE BARK!
Organic Lives is truly a special place!
I'm not a vegan or vegetarian or care particularly about going green...but if you are, this place is pure heaven - and a 5/5!!!
For me, I found the service and people EXCELLENT!!!
They sure do aim to please.
Their self praise about there food is a little overboard when reading the menu! Also the waitress gushing "Try the dessert it is UNBELIEVABLE" blah blah blah....was a little much.
I ordered the Masala Burger. It was expertly and lovingly prepared and no doublt healthy for me. In all honesty it tasted like peat moss with a touch of tree bark. I nearly went to McDonalds to wash down the vegan-ness of what I just ate.
Bottom line: SUPERB QUALITY and SERVICE, but not for everyone's taste.Comment from Preet M. of OrganicLives 11/3/2011

Love this new raw food restaurant right on the corner of Quebec and 2nd avenue.
Owner is wonderful and knows how to keep it simple, educate and prepare a mean raw lunch for a great energy boost instead of the notorious "food Coma!" They are opening soon an area for seminars and workshops for healthy living.
Modern, clean, nice and airy feel yet community feel.
A must visit raw experience for Vancouver.

What's that? Raw food you say?? Okay, I'll give it a go. Amarit and Preet at Organic Lives say their food is life-changing, and I believe it. Their dishes are gluten free, dairy free, and well, raw. At their location on Quebec street, they have a large kitchen where they make all of their take-home products from scratch, and there is also a small restaurant seating area for those who wish to stay for a meal.
I decided on the original pizza for lunch, and was not sure what to expect. I am a lover of pizza, I like it doughy, cheesy, and meaty. I was very pleasantly surprised with how Organic Lives interprets this Italian staple. The pizza was made with one of their veggie crackers as a base, macademia nut cheese, and toppings like pineapple, red peppers, olives, onions, mushrooms, and pesto. The multitude of toppings complimented each other perfectly on my tastebuds. In fact, I forgot it was vegetarian. It came with a side caesar salad which was also delicious. The caesar salad had special croutons made of almonds, which are a gluten free wonder. I was way too full for dessert, but I just had to try the coconut cream pie, so I got one to go. It was heavenly. I'm really stumped as to how they make that one so delicious and yet so healthy. Does that mean I can eat more?? Their teriyaki almonds are also oh so tasty and addictive. Raw food to me now means all the taste, and none of the guilt...and it makes you feel great too. I'll be back.. -

The Mother'sday brunch was fantastic , 1st time there for me and i would definately go back. The kitchen is seperated by a glass wall which gives you option to see all the food being prepared and a seating area just perfect for the concept. It was a nice touch to have the owner walking around making sure everything was ok . The best french toast !!! it was hard to finish i was so full on goodness,,,

This place is just fantastic! Came here for a late lunch with my best friend and we were both thoroughly impressed. Our server was very pleasant and recommended great dishes. We started with the avocado/carrot soup. The soup was so creamy and silky in texture and the taste was outstanding. Then we shared the raw walnut sushi roll, this was another hit. Then we shared the tasting plate - the watermelon radishes were so crispy and fresh, the hummus was creamy and flavorful, and the nut cheeses were nutty and rich in flavor!
We finished the meal with the chocolate cake, it was AMAZING!!! Literally the silkiest, richest, most delightful chocolate cake I have ever had ... really chocolaty with a hint of coconut. I am fairly certain that this cake would be a hit with anyone, not just those into raw/vegan food. I brought a slice for my meat loving parents, and they both loved it and were shocked when I told them it was vegan/raw ...
so on the whole, this place is great, food is very tasty, not heavy, and very fresh... can't wait to go back!!! -

Great to have a raw food place in Vancouver where the food tastes great. If only the atmosphere weren't that of a wear-house. Great concept in the wrong location. Feels like you are in a cafeteria/ wearhouse.
